They are ordering Part# 10309548. Is there a real BIG difference, I hope so since I'm not to please with the unit I have now. If anybody can answer me, please do. Thanks Frank
Make sure you go in armed with the new amp number and tell him you know it's not available to his parts department, he will need to order it from the manufacturer, it should take about two weeks, you will be willing to wait...
Also, is #10432572 the old or the new amp?
Thanks, John
Does anyone know how to remove the rear speakers???
Than!
Anyway, I'm going back today just to let my sales rep also listen to the new and the old amp just to keep him informed. After that, I suppose I'm going to approach the owner of the dealership and explain how good their self-proclaimed "excellent" customer service really is.
When we are talking about bypassing the amp we are reffering to unplugging the unit and then jumping the wires in the plug to compensate for the interuption in power. A detailed "how to" can be found on Nightowl's website, very informative.
I will find out who he ordered it from (the manufacturer)and what number he called if that will help though, I don't see why that information wouldn't be open to any service manager no matter how big or small his dealership.
Let us know how the system sounds with the new amp.
My suggestion: Never go back to that dealer! They do not deserve your business and loyalty. The AMP is a VALID warranty claim and therefore he is under strict obligation to honor the terms of the car's limited warranty.
Have you followed my list of follow up steps for a successful resolution in replacing the AMP? You must contact Chevy customer service, get a file case number and ask to get the Service Manager OFFICIALLY involved in your claim. If you don't ride the ponies one at a time, don't expect any results or help from any one. The manager's and dealer's reputation are put in the line of fire when they get involved by GM to work on a customer satisfaction issue.
Don't take his lack of attitude as the final word. Try a different dealership where they might be willing to satisfy you and earn your business...BUT CALL CHEVY/GM CUSTOMER SERVICE FIRST!!!!
Good luck, and don't give up on this fight!

A while back I mentioned to this group about an audio upgrade I am going to have done to my 2001 Impala LS. Here is the latest info on the install and component choices. This install is to begin July 1 and take till (approximately) July 7th. I anticipate that it will take a bit longer because of the complexity of the system. And I have had to make a few changes due to the fact that the Stock radio will not have the sound quality needed for this type of install.
Components:
Head unit: Rockford Fosgate 9400 (Stock deck to be relocated to trunk)
Equalizers: Audio control EQT (30 band 1/3 octave equalizer mono block - so 2 are needed for stereo)
Amplifiers: Lunar
100-watt x2 for front channel
40-watt x2 for rear channel
200-watt x2 for Subwoofers
Front speakers: Focal 165 K2
Rear channel: Stock (rear fill only)
Subwoofers: JL audio 12W3D4 (dual 4ohm voice coils)
Now, keep in mind that this is not your typical system upgrade. And I will be hitting some local car audio competitions. But this can give you some ideas of what can be done. IT will loose some trunk space (not ideal as I like a big trunk). As the system install progresses I will be taking pictures and eventually getting a web site up for those interested. If you have any questions let me know. Thanks and have a great day!
Please keep us up to date...interesting project to keep a close watch on!
Enjoy!
I do have a case number open with GM - they are supposed to call me back tomorrow to see how today went. I'll have to come up with a polite way of saying I got "zero" service ;-)
Now for the bad news. My service manager has contacts within GM parts to get the things he wants/needs to keep his customers happy. Therefore he would prefer that I not give his name and number for other service managers to contact, he tells me if he told everyone how he does it, he might never be able to get things in the future. I'm going to honor his request. He told me that any service manager can do the same thing if he knows who to talk to.
As far as this being a warranty item, it is. He told the service writer to bill it under warranty and took the old amp to send back, no money from them. This is definately a "Customer Satisfaction" situation, they should treat it as such. He told me that 20% of his bonus depends on his getting "Completely Satisfied" marks on all his surveys that are sent out by Chevrolet Motor Division.
This can be done though folks, it all depends on how much your dealership wants your business. If you don't have any other option, then go the route that Teo mentioned, open a file and press thru Customer Service, get them to force the service manager to do it.
Let me know if there is any other way I can help those who are interested in swapping out amps. I'm sorry I can't post his name though...
I imagine that you are now driving down the street with a BIG smile!
What a difference the new AMP makes, eh? Truly amazing!!!
Well enjoy and kudos for a successful gestion!
And yes, It can be done!
Don't wait for the warranty to run out..this is a GM Quality Control issue, not your fault!
I'm not pursuing a new amp. My 2000 LS sounds just fine. One of my favorite channels does have this "problem" that you guys are experiencing. However, all the other stations I listen to is just fine. Lots of bass.
When GM bought back my '00 LS and gave me a new '01 LS the first pleasant surprise I had was the incredibly good sounding stereo. I was already prepared to do the by-pass on this one as well, but happily I don't have to anymore!
Yes, it is a very subjective matter and I don't expect GM to issue a recall on a component that might not be cause for complaints on 50 or 60% client base that currently own Impalas. However they do know that the 104 AMP is a piece of junk and it was replaced mid-production year 2001 (Around 12-00) for the 103 unit.
Based on this eveidence, the AMP issue is indeed a very valid warranty claim item. But if you are happy with it as it is, then don't touch it. For others the effort to get the AMP replacement means the difference between liking the car 80% of the time with a lousy radio and 100% with a good sounding system.
To me that difference is worth all the time and effort in the world.
Do you have a GM file case number?
I don't think your '00 head unit is to blame for any problems. If you just hook up the 103 AMP in your existing system, the sound quality should change radically as it did for Hunter.
Pls let me know..
Well, guess what? A Sales Manager that dropped by said, and I quote, "I disagree with this 100%" and that "these guys are full of it". How's that for customer service? He basically said it's all a lie.
If you two are half as outraged as I am by those comments, feel free to give them a call. The dealership is Clay Chevrolet/Oldsmobile in Newton, MA. Phone: 617-964-3000. I've talked to the Service Manager Billy Maloney, his boss Ken MacLeod and the above comments were made by the Sales Manager Timothy Savage. Appropriate last name.
I can't believe this.
