My coupe's left tailpipe is lower too, albeit very slightly. I can see how extensions make the lopsidedness more prominent.

My guess is that this can be safely corrected with slightly smaller rubber O-rings for the left tailpipe. Since the dealer won't do it, you could have Meineke replace the O-rings or do it yourself with PepBoys/Autozone parts (bring original ring for reference).

Have an 03EXL-4cyl Accord Sedan. The manual says that the rear defroster is on a timer. Can anyone tell me the duration. I have had mine on for as long as 30 minutes and it still does not shut off. This is my first Honda and I'm use to my Ford turning off in 10. It's a great car so far. The only other problem I have is some rattles coming from the driver's side roof handle and the compartment door were the CDs are stored. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

With gas prices at $1.50/gal., I would like to get the best milage posible without cramping my driving style. I have averaged over 30 mpg over 6 week of ownership of my 2003 Accord I4 with 5 Sp. Auto. I heard today about an AAA report that milage is even better at 65 mph than at 55 mph. Can anyone with Navig. and on going mpg confirm this? With most interstates limited to 55-65 mph, this would be great to have it geared to get its best milage at 65 mpg or even higher. One person liked that the V6 got its best milage at 105 mph. I do not think that is true.
My 1999 Odyssey doesn't break 2000 rpms until you get past 72 mph, so it probably is most efficient when going better than 65 mph. I'm just happy with how both of my Hondas perform on the road.
Now what will they do with the Odyssey for 2004 when they change style to compete with the Siena?
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
For the very reason that the V-6 does not get it's best mileage at 105, I highly doubt the Accord does better at 65 than at 55 (it may be close though). It probably gets it's best mileage at the lowest speed it will comfortably maintain in it's highest gear, which is probably 45 mph or so.

Just wondering what other people are getting in mileage for over 65mi/hour driving or close to it. I drive about 93 miles/day all highway. Also how far can you go when the gas light flashes ?

    Thanks!

In Accord, about 3.5 gallons remain when the fuel light starts to light up. Depending on mileage you get, that could translate to 75 (city) to 100 (highway) miles
  • according2meaccording2me Member Posts: 236
My last road trip (all interstate) I set the cruise at 70 and went 304 miles between exits. I averaged 35.92mpg with the AC on. I did increase tire pressure by 3psi to encourage this efficiency.

Also, last year, when I was averaging 250-300 miles per day, I noticed that I could go to the middle of the "E" and still have close to 2 gallons left. The first time you push the gage is a little nerve racking, but after calibrating yourself to the car, you become comfortable about reaching the next town where the gas is cheaper.
  • rmui1rmui1 Member Posts: 48
Remember that the not all of the fuel can be fed to the engine, so not the entire capacity of the gas tank will actually be used. The question is how much gas will be left in the tank when the fuel pump can no longer get at it. I found this out the hard way in a 96 Accord, fortunately the gas station was not far away. I probably had about half gallon left accessible after the light came on, much less than my previous cars. Can't speak on the 2003's though.
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
running your tank so close to empty is not a good idea anyway. you get too low and then you run the risk of screwing up your fuel system in a BIG way!

It looks like it is time to put a new set of tires on my wife's Accord. It is a 99 EXL Sedan w/ approx 40,000mi on it. The factory tires are Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus.

I've searched on this topic some, and most people post in favor of the Michelin MXV4's. Is that still the consensus?

We're looking for tires that do well in the rain and in dry conditions. Also looking to keep the good ride. Performance isn't a big concern.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I've liked the Michelin X-Ones. They are great in rain, surprisingly good in snow even though the tread pattern doesn't look rough enough, and grip well in the cold on icy surfaces. The tread rubber is different so the tire is quiet even on pavement when very cold and maintains its grip in cornering when very cold, 0 degrees and below.

I switched from the MXV4+s to Bridgestone Turanza LS-Hs and my ride, handling, and especially wet traction was greatly improved from what the OEM Michelins exhibited even when they were new. The Turanzas are also much quieter on concrete and broken road surfaces.

Dunlop, Yokohama, and other Bridgestones and Michelins are also frequent replacements. Be aware of your tire rating,(H,V,Z) when shopping. The tires, tires, tires link below has 3or4 very knowledgeable and active members that lurk there. Scan the last 4-5 pages and you'll learn who they are.

BTW the MXV4+s were very long lasting, comfortable riding tires for my long cruising trips, but I don't believe this forum ever said they were the best overall preferred tire for the Accord.

FYI: here's some links for your research.

I can feel the shifting jerk on my 2-week old LX V6 too. I also notice that when I slow down to some speed and then try to speed up, it seems to bump a little bit gasping to catch up.

My old 92 Acura Vigor had 132K when I got it, it shifted seamlessly and the shifting was hardly noticeable (though not now after my wife used it to learn driving!). Don't know if they put better tranny on the Acura than Accord?
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
i'd be willing to bet there isn't much difference between acura and honda transmissions...especially those connected to hondas with v6 engines...

We can post messages as long as we feel like posting messages in this discussion since we have moved to this OS platform.

Our previous platform did have limitations to the numbers of posts in a discussion, so yes, some discussions still carry a "Part" number.

We've actually had several iterations of the Accord discussion, but I spent some time a while back changing all the names to remove those indications since they don't matter any more.

Good job Pat. Now if we can only get rid of all those "read only" threads.

what is the UTOG rating on these? I heard that was one big distinction between the Bridgstones and MXV4s. How about the X-Ones?

hi, i'm new to this board and i'm planning to get a LX V6. Can someone please tell me the pros and cons of this car and also are there any problems with the new accord?

    thanks

Have an 03 EX-V6 with Michelin Energy MX-V4 tires. Does anybody know if these tires come with a treadwear warranty when issued with the car. Also is there anywhere to buy a roadhazard warranty. We live in a heavy construction area in Houston and are constantly losing tires due to road hazards.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
can be reopened upon request. :-)
  • ray_h71ray_h71 Member Posts: 212
Michelin no longer warrants treadwear. They may not be alone.
  • according2meaccording2me Member Posts: 236
LS-H has UTOG of 400 AA A 50,000 mile warranty.
I believe the LS-V and LS-Z have 40,000 mile warranty.

how to turn off the "maintenance required" light on an 00 Accord LX?? This thing drive me nuts@!!
  • cdavidccdavidc Member Posts: 10
Read in owners manual. It tells you how to use the reset button on the instrument cluster. Most cars you push the reset botton and turn the key to on and hold it until the light flashes and that resets it.

I'm having some problems with my 1998 Accord and its factory CD player. I burn alot of CD's and I haven't found any yet that play with no problem. Verbatim CD-R's play, but you can't really advance between tracks without waiting five minutes for the CD player to find the next track. I bought a big sleeve of Memorex CD-R's and they don't work at all. Same with Sony. Anyone out there solved this riddle? Maybe I need to switch burning software as well as CD-R type. Please help!
  • wagnerrjwagnerrj Member Posts: 2
Make sure you are using Music CDR's and that you specify a speed which is slower than 12X. I believe 4X is best. Mine are burned using a TEAC 48X Burner and Nero 5.X software and I use Imitation "CD-R MUSIC
               CD Recoradable

    Digital Audio"
This is the wording on the left side of the CD.
I play them in a 2001 and a 2003 Accord EX and have no problems with any funtion... track forward, backward, repeat etc. Hope this helps.

The 1998-2000 Accords have a different CD player than the 2001-2002s. Maybe the older CD player is not compatible.
Back in 1998, playing CD-Rs or CD-RWs in their car stereo was not an issue for most people.
5 years from now, maybe most car CD players will even play MP3s and you won't need to install Honda's $500 MP3 single disc player separately.
  • deyounkdeyounk Member Posts: 12
We have a 98 Accord, and we can play CDR's really easy. I've used both Memorex and Sony, and they both worked flawlessly for me.

Does anyone know what brand the radio/cd unit is in the new Accord (EX-V6)? Or does Honda source from more than one manufacturer? Just wondering.
  • kaelin42kaelin42 Member Posts: 2
What type of burning software are you using?
  • briansbluetoybriansbluetoy Member Posts: 50
Cringe...I put the first scratch in my 03 yesterday. I was parallel parking and apparently kissed the car infront of me (right front corner). I did not even know it, just happened to look at the car after I parked and to my horror, saw two scratches about 8 in long.

Anyway, its not just a surface scratch, it is as if you drug a screwdriver and removed material (not a lot but enough). Is there any way of fixing this?
  • ticosticos Member Posts: 19
I have a '98 Accord and had problems with the CDR's as well. I burned them on a Phillips CD-RW player/recorder I brought for my home stereo system. I tried Memorex and it took forever for my car unit to play. I finally started to use TDK cd's and they have given me the best results (hardly any lag time to find the next track).
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
my own personal experience is that memorex cd-r discs have horrible quality! i have had good luck with sony, fuji and tdk. btw, i use roxio burning software and haven't had any problems...
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
    more wish list for accords,

    1. put sunroof controls where they should be...front center of headliner...not left side of steering wheel.
    2. sunroof needs express open-close (minimum express open)
    3. manual shift controls for automatic tranny (honda has em for acura, why not honda)

as for dash rattles/popping noises, my '03 coupe has a jekyl and hyde character when it comes to this. yesterday while driving around in 75 degree temps i didn't hear a peep from the dash. last night around 10 pm i had to run out and get some food and everytime i hit a bump i heard popping noises from both the driver and passenger side of the dash. i guess i'll just have to [non-permissible content removed] about this when i take the car in for the first oil change in a month or so. i'm sure this intermittent rattling will make it very difficult to find the problem!!!

Does anyone which 01' and 02' accords v6 came with manual? or is it only 2003? cause im looking for a used v6 stick accord thanks

5spd Manual combo in the Accord until this year. And it's only offered in the coupe.
  • fzornickjrfzornickjr Member Posts: 3
I was quoted via e-mail a price of $21,049 (includes destination charges) for a LX V6 AT. Has anyone received a quote that is lower that this? It's $110 under the invoice price and I'm pretty happy with that. I'm debating whether to go out this week and finalize the deal. Thanks
  • vegoenvegoen Member Posts: 82
Ok, thats kind of weird though, shouldnt they offer a 5spd with the stronger engine? especialy in a coupe... so the 2001 and 2002 have no manual v6 combos?

2003 V6 Coupe - Has anyone noticed a creaking sound when turning the steering wheel at low speeds. Any ideas on the cause and solution.
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
The '03 Coupe offers a V6/6-speed manual in very limited production.

Help!! I have an opportunity to buy either vehicle at dealer cost. Consumer Reports rated the 300M the best and most reliable sedan out of Detroit, and the Accord is of course renowned for its reliability. I know its apples and oranges, but for you owners of Accord V-6's, what do you like and dislike about your Accord? Is it comfortable for not only daily commuting but long-distance driving? I've driven both recently. The obvious is only what I learned, the 300M is bigger, faster, and rides smoother, but gets less gas mileage. According to my research, believe it or not, both cars reportedly have few problems. I was surprised that the 300M (except for the 99 first model year) was reliable.
What would you do given the opportunity to buy either vehicle? How would you decide?

    1) Crash test ratings
    Chrysler: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/00030.htm
    Accord: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/0220.htm

    Accord much better.

    2) Fuel economy: Accord about 10% better.

    3) Resale: 300M value drops like a rock. After 3 years, the 300M has lost $15,000 in value, compared to $8,800 for the Accord.

    4) Reliability: Accord has been one of the most reliable cars on the market for years. Can't say the same for any Chrysler product.
