Here's an interesting comparison of the 4 vehicles currently (and, still) in my family fleet. Two of the four have used 5W-30 since day one, and both have over 130K miles. Each use between a 1/2 and 3/4 quart between changes (3K or 3 months, whichever comes first). The remaining two of the four have used 10W-30 since day one, and each of these have over 150K miles. Each use less than a 1/4 quart between changes with the same oil change interval. Of course, the make/engine types vary, but I find this interesting.
The major shift to 5W oil was not because of better lubrication, but for better fuel economy, specifically for manufacturers to meet the Federally-dictated CAFE standards.
One has to wonder if Mobil 1 10W-30 isn't a far better overall choice??
My personal preference is that the accord hybrid be cheaper to compete with the 2007 camry hybrid. Also an Accord Convertible!! This will do EXCELLENT against the solara, g6 hardtop, mustang and next sebring/stratus convertibles but is 99.9% guaranteed (my opinion) to increase sales. What company wouldn't want that. A family of 2 can barely fit in an S2000 (which also needs a redesign)hint hint honda  . Maybe an SI accord coupe! I hope the next accord won't look on the new civic.
I don't mean to knitpick, but the Accord is in its 7th generation (1=1976-81, 2=1982-85, 3=1986-89, 4=1990-93, 5=1994-97, 6=1998-2001, 7=2003-07).
I hope the next Accord is a little more stylish than the current model. The Civic is maybe a little over-the-top (the dashboard, anyway), but the exterior of the Civic coupe is very attractive, IMO.
I also hope Honda goes the extra mile with the details this time. Things I can think of right now are (1) returning to a one-piece dashboard -- think Acura TSX, and (2) felt on door & window seals -- think VW Passat; these would serve to reduce noises & rattles. I also hope they return to amber rear turn signals -- my preference, but I HATE red turn signals -- they are harder to see in the daylight and look cheap.
Enjoy!
When the oil life indicator tells you it's time to do it. :shades:
I do know, though, that for the last three Hondas we've bought (03, 05, and 06 Accords), the dealer wouldn't let us change the oil before 5k miles, only AT 5,000 miles should the first service be done. THEN, use the minder. A different type of oil is used from factory.
Uhhh, this is what the manual tells you. :shades:
I called. He wasn't sure about Accords, but says 5,000 miles for the initial oil change in Odysseies, then whenever the maintenence minder reads 15% after the initial change.

Don't Change Your Engine Oil Too Soon

On all Hondas (except Passport), the original engine oil contains additives to protect the engine during its break-in period. Since these additives aren’t in over-the-counter oils, make sure the first oil change happens at the recommended mileage/time interval, and not before. Honda's recommendations is to leave the original oil with additives in the motor until at least 3,750 miles.

This relates to what they told me at my local dealer, since the earliest recommended maintenance in the manual before the Maint. Minder was added was at 5,000 (for severe conditions).
(ps the 5th generation is my favorite
Just curious as to what you were thinking about it. By the way, I have a 5th Gen Accord (1996), and I LOVE it...
It just won't quit! 157,500 miles now; original tranny, alternator, rear brakes (drums), etc. Only one $220 repair in its life; the main fan motor.
Got a couple question regarding accessories for a new Accord SE 06 Sedan:
Can you guy suggest some good alarm system that can go with the keyless entry built in of the Accord?
For wheel lock, splash guard, should I go for the OEM parts ? or should I go with after market parts ?
Is there any product that can help support the car from other car (i.e., other cars scratch your car at parking ... )
Thanks,
My 06 Accord is very quiet, much more so than my 02 Infiniti I35 I had previously. The EX version will have extra sound insulation in the hoods that the VP or LX won't. Plus the V6 is quieter than the 4cyl.
As in many parts used in car assembly, it is possible that Honda uses more then one supplier for the leather seats. When a friend purchased a 05 EXL, they thought the seat comfort varied from EXL to EXL car. Probably the best thing to do is to sit in a couple of cars, esp the one your thinking of purchasing.

This is one I don't understand. Prior to my Honda's, every Classic SAAB 900 I owned had heated seats as standard equipment, and the seats were cloth, not leather. If SAAB can do this, why not Honda?
Now the scratches....you can't control other people, so there isn't much you can do. If you do get a scratch, the best thing to do is to evaluate how deep of a scratch it is and repair it. Generally, scratches from parking lots aren't deep enough to where they can get past the paint, so in most cases if it's just the slightest scratch, a little polish and elbow grease should do it.
However, Honda uses limited option packages to keep their costs and manufacturing time down (about 25% less time to manufacture a Honda than a GM or Ford - and time is money). SAAB is not a highly profitable stable stand alone company, where Honda is.
If they build an extended wheel base, it should compete with the 300, 500/montego, Maxima, and Avalon. PLEASE don't ask me to predict styling  . My only guess with that is that it will keep the 06's tail lamps.

That's quite a radical prediction; any basis for it? (not knocking you, just wondering wh you think so) I imagine the front end will get sleeker (as did the Civic) and the car will get more aero-looking than it currently is. It will likely get a larger V-6, but I'd expect the 3.2 from the TL, with the TL getting a nudge to ~275hp and the Accord getting a nice, round 260 not the 3.5L from the RL.
How about a smaller engine?
Btw, the accord isn't slow but it's competition is getting faster (2007 camry offering a 255hp engine somewhere in that complicated line up) so why not give the competition a real run 4 the money? Getting a lot of power out of a smaller engine is what honda does best but it still comes at a cost (the s2000's small but powerful engine but has a loud annoying tone and a minimalist design*) Toyota is trying to be the #1 selling brand in america so why shouldn't honda be atop the list if not 1st? Honda has reputation on its side. Its not like hyundai, kia or suzuki who are still building a reputation/ coming out of the gate :shades:.
*Directly from edmunds s2000 new car comparison
Honda is nowhere near beating Toyota for #1 though. Even if they could find the customers, Honda doesn't have the capacity.
Well, the Toyota's actually has 268 hp, while the Honda/Acura 3.2L has 258 hp. The Honda 3.5L has 290 hp in the RL, but such a large engine would likely incite some torque steer, a problem the TL has already.
Just a question but isn't the tl using the old engine from the 3.2Cl? And the tl has 258 hp @ 6200 rpm. The rl 290 hp @ 6200 rpm. The accord hybrid bests the tl but the regular accord has a 3.0l V6 has 244 hp @ 6244 rpm. If you like torque, the tl has 22 more than the accord V6.
