very close to firepepper red. My #1 choice for the color !!
i just traded in a '00 Accord LX 5-speed sedan in that color.
and i just moved from Vermont, too!
shoulda sold it to you!
you're right about the color, though: living in one of the ten cloudiest cities (Burlington, VT), that dark emerald pearl looked BLACK most of the time. only in sunlight did it look richly green. as far as Honda greens go, i always liked the clover green pearl on the civic. brighter, but still a nice green.
I also wasn't happy with the service dept. at my selling dealer, so I went to another one. I'm much happier now. I wouldn't hesitate to do so if you're in the same boat.
I was amazed at how difficult it was finding Accords with manual transmissions. Apparently not many people want them anymore. My dealer had 2 5-spd Accords out of maybe 60 on the lot.
I was even more amazed at getting $4,750 for my trade - a '95 Accord LX with 138,000 miles. It needed a couple grand worth of work to keep it going - new clutch, struts, rear brakes, axles, gas guage sending unit, a/c recharge, plus was developing an ominous clunk from the front end. It was also starting to form rust bubbles in the rear quarter panels. I figured it was worth putting that money into a new car rather than into the old one. But it did serve me well, I didn't put more than $1,500 in maintenance and repairs over the life of the car.
Considering that I only paid $16,000 for the car - that would be $11250 in depreciation, approx $2800 in interest, $1500 in maintenance, $3600 in insurance, $5520 in gas, and about $1200 in registration fees. That works out to .19/mile. Bet you can't beat that with a Hyundai!
Seems to be a pretty decent deal, but I am noticing some minor "problems" now. My previous car was a 99Corolla, so everything is a bit relative:))
1) Road noise : Significantly higher, but from the posts, it is a standard Honda Feature
2) Cold Engine : Engine hesitation while near idle speeds, seems to be while shifting, but I am not sure. Firstly I thought that it was stalling, but later I found that it does not occur when the engine has warmed up. I found a post at about the early 700 ranges regarding a similar problem , but no responses
3) Braking : At near stop, there is a slight bump before dead stop. Again, it seems it has been adressed in this forum, but I just could not get the reason or the remedy.
None of these problems are phenomenal, but it is giving me a slightly uncomfortable feeling about the deal. So I would be really greatful for an answer.
2) My engine did the same "almost stall" act until I changed the PCV valve ($2.45 and 3 minutes). Mine was really gummed up. I also thought that the car felt like it was bogging down or stalling during shifts, but I think that this is just a "feature" to make the shifts smoother. I don't really know.
3) The slight bump you feel is the transmission shifting from 2nd gear down to 1st. It waits until the last possible nano-second to do this. If you do a rolling stop and then stomp on the gas, you'll get a rough 2nd to 1st shift because the car hadn't gotten down to 1st, yet. This logic should make the car drive more smoothly under normal driving conditions, but if you're aggressive, it takes some getting used to.
Hope this helps!
I had contacted the service department of the dealers. They actually recommended to use a higher grade of gasoline :!!!!!!!
Anyway, I'll try to replace the PCV, can it be done by myself ?
The new valve should rattle a lot when you shake it. If the old one still rattles a lot when you shake it, it might not be your problem. But, if it's pretty quiet when you shake it, the change should help your problems.
Good luck!
Absolutely awesome car and tremendous value for money. Leased through AHFC for 375pm with 0 down.
2 trips to the dealer for other than oil :
1. Engine warning light on because we didn't tighten down the fuel filler cap
2. Repair work after someone backed into it in the parking lot.
Looking at up market cars now while diving our third vehicle (Tacoma) but keep coming back to the tremendous value we had in the Honda - Only difference is I would prob go for the LX V6 next time - reputedly even better value !!!!
There's a glut of Accords out there right now and most of them are LXs and EXs with automatics, that's why they're offering 3.9% for 3 years until the end of the month on the 4 bangers.
If you go to carsdirect.com and price it out first, then go to a dealer with paper in hand, you should hold your ground and cut yourself a real good deal.
Invoice for your car, including destination, is $20,198. If you pay more than 20,300 then you'll be paying too much.
You get fresh air as long as you haven't got it on recirculate.
Just got my 01 Dark Green EX-V6 yesterday evening before the dealer close...
1st of all, I love that car! It is so sweet; no question about it! Only diff decision was the color - a silver or a dark green.
Before I drove away, I did noticed that the driver side door didn't open and close that nicely... When I open the driver door, it seems like the door is popping out and it is harder to close compared to other doors. The salesman told me that every car is builded differently and it may feels different in every Honda; but a technician and him both acknowledged that the driver door does felt diff when opening and closing. He told me that it was probably NEW or an alignment problem when install the driver door. So, he assured me that if the problem persist, he will fix it for me until I am happy.
From my past experience (I drove a wrecked used car when I was in college), that's how it feels. Of course, the 01 EX-V6 didn't feel that bad, but you can tell it is kind of a similar feeling but in a more minor scale.
So, I told him how I felt and ask him what if the car has structural damage... He said if the car really has a structural damage, they can replace one for me... but I don't really trust him on this... Again, he told me that he don't think that's the problem and he think the problem will go away by itself because his theory was the car is brand new (ONLY 1 MILE on the ODO).
This morning, I went out to "enjoy" my new baby in my garage and noticed that the rear portion of my sunroof on the driver side is sited higher than the other 3 corners of the sunroof. So, I make sure that the sunroof is fully closed and check again... Same observation!!! I went behind the car and look at the structure of the roof around the sunroof from behind and noticed a shallow "DEN" in that area where I complained the sunroof was a bit higher than usual.... I look at the same area on the f-passenger side and I don't see a den but a smooth surface...... My God!! I felt so sad now....!! (the reason why I can see the den clearly is because the color is so dark that you will be able to see the den's reflection easily; probably won't notice that easily if it is a Silver color...)
I called the saleman and he asked me to go in on Monday to talk to the service manager to re-solve this issue. Personally, I would like to get a new replacement car because I have pay so much money for it - $23,000 with Audio panel wood trim kit and cargo net and I don't think I will settled for paying a brand new car and get a damaged car. But my gut feelings tell me that the dealer won't be too happy to give me a replacement car and they will try very hard to avoid that...
Furthermore, you never know what really happended to the car and what it will do to your car in the long run..... (I bought a wrecked car in college before).
So, for the expert out there... Do you guys think that if there's really a den in the car or if the structure is damaged, can I demand for a new replacement car? I only had the car for less than 24 hours and i have reported the problem to the dealer and even before I drove the car away... On top of that, the saleman didn't let me sign the paper work about the car was inspected by the Honda technicial and that I agree on all the items were checked and ok; but he did include the form in the paperwork I bring home. The from has everything checked but no signature of a technicial and mine...
Thanks in advance and thanks for reading my sad and lousy long mesg. Thank you!
The cars looks great with a spoiler. I can't seem to find a price for it. The dealer has quoted me $800. that seems a little steep. I live in NY
Also he quoted me an extra $200, if I want more wood trim, specifically around the stereo area.
Do these prices sound right?
Good luck, though.
The only downfall to the whole process is the fact that I will be receiving a General Motors company car. At least I won't be stuck paying for all the warranty work.
Thanks for the input...
i've test driven accord when i purchased the solara-- i would have been happy with accord-- just wanted a manual with a V6.... my next car i'll probably go back to honda only because i like to change between honda and toyota every 1 or 2 cars.... maybe i get tired of the font on the speedometer, or just want a change... if you decide to go with the honda, i'm sure you'll make out all right... the 3.9% financing ends this week--- but then, maybe they'll extend it again...
ol daimler chrysler sure is hurting, eh?
Thanks.
I just bought a new 2001 EX V6. It's a great car, but I did find one annoying little detail: I can feel a vibration in the gas pedal every time I accelerate. Is that "normal" or should I mention it to the dealer? (I don't hold my breath on what they're gonna tell me: oh they all do that, most certainly). Is someone experienced this out there?
Thank you very much.
The gas pedal vibration is not normal. Go see the dealer and tell them to fix it.
