Does it come with 5 speed AT. If not how much different 4 speed AT makes comparing to 5 speed AT.
Does SE handles better than GLS and where does it stand when compared to Civic handling and spiritedness.
So far test drove Mazda 3 and Civic LX/LX-S. I liked Civic better in terms of driving, comfort and space for family. Not able to get the Civic LX to the price i wanted. Looking at other alternatives.
How does it compare with civic in terms of maintance i.e., timing belt vs chain.
Do yourself a favor and go test drive a Hyundai GLS and SE. Personally, I went with the GLS because the SE has a stiffer ride. They have an amazing amount of interior space and trunk space. So much in fact the EPA classifies them as mid-size sedans. Looking at them you may think its cramped, but it is far, far, far from it.
When you throw in all the safety features, the positive reviews and the remarkable Hyundai warranty it really makes it an easy decision.
Good luck!
* 4AT. The Elantra's powertrain is a fairly old design, which is good in that it has proven reliable, but is behind most competitors. An all-new car with a much improved powertrain including a 6AT is due for the 2011 Elantra.
* I think the SE does handle a little better than the GLS due to bigger rubber, but you should drive both and see what you think. More importantly IMO, the SE has electronic stability control standard and the GLS doesn't have it (should be remedied for 2011).
* I think you'll find the Elantra has a roomier back seat than the Mazda3 and Civic.
* Elantra has a timing belt. But I expect that will change with the new engine(s) for 2011, as Hyundai has been going with timing chains the past several years. The 2010 Elantra's engine design dates from the mid-'90s - iron block and all.
Thanks for the information.
I am very interest in Elentra GLS automatic.
I am getting a deal: out of door price, $15.197 in CT
Am I getting a good deal? I would really appreciate if you can give me an advice on this please.
Local dealer that I have purchased two Hyundias through dealer swapped a 2010 Elantra Blue with option pack #2 (A/C, Cruise). It is set up like the last one except for not being a hatchback.
His offer is 16,151 (taxable amount) - 1500 rebate - 1000 financing rebate for a price of $13651 + $200 Title/tags + tax. The last car I bought there was a 2009 Sonata for $800 under invoice, the 2005 Elantra that I wrecked was bought at invoice so I am thinking he is high by $300-500.
How much room is there under invoice for the Elantra Blues?
Dave
I checked out the pricing on several sites including Edmunds TMV and it looks like you should be able to haggle down the price another $400 or so. TrueCar had the lowest price listed as $13,223 using my zip code (Georgia) but when I used a zip code for Woodland Hills, CA (LA) it was only $12,919. Edmunds TMV price (using my Georgia zip) was $14,128 which only included the $1500 rebate. With the $1000 financing rebate, that would be $13,128, which is $523 less than the price your dealer has quoted.
BTW, the special APR financing (3.9% for 60 months or 4.9% for 72 months) can be combined with the two rebates. Hopefully that's already part of the plan from your dealer...
From your posting, I infer that the accident was your fault (correct me if I'm wrong). Either way, have you been offered a fair settlement amount for totaling the 2005 Elantra? In most states, you can add the sales tax expense of the replacement car to the amount the insurance company pays you for the value of the car you totaled. Just FYI.
The Elantra Blue is a helluva steal, especially with current incentives. I'm sure you'll miss the versatility of your 5-door (I have a Mazda3 5-door and don't know if I could ever go back to a conventional sedan with a trunk), but the great deal will certainly help. Did you consider the Elantra Touring 5-door? A 2011 Touring GLS model is running around $14,100 at the moment according to TrueCar.
I hadn't considered the touring as this is just a commuter. I buy a new one and run it until the wheels fall off. Then I dump it and get another. I will check the touring out though. A manual tranny is important to me for driving in snow.
The financing rebate was part of the deal. I only found one other rebate so I was at $2500 in total incentives.
One interesting thing that I found was the cars.overstock.com pricing. By using the zip codes I zeroed in on that dealership at just under $13,000. I am guessing that after buying two cars there they think that they have a loyal customer.
I didn't know about the sales tax thing. I will check on that with the insurance company. I expect the call tomorrow or Monday telling me that it is a total. I took out the hood and the radiator and AC condensor were pushed into the block with lot of broken plastic.
I'm thinking that I am going to call them and tell them $13,000 after rebate + tax and title. They did a dealer swap based on me calling and expressing interest.
Dave
The reason I'm on this forum is because I'll be buying a new Elantra this winter as a commuter car for me. We bought an 07 Elantra for our daughter (new) and that car is well built. We haven't had any problems, high safety ratings and it gets 33 mpg! Nice.
Price I paid for 2010 Elantra manual (blue) with comfort package 2
15300 -1500 -1000 -400(college) = $12,400
Plus tax, dmv, doc ...=14,1xx.
I showed dealers truecar.com quote and gave me $12,790 initially.
covers and recently got a bad ink stain on the drivers seat. She has
been talking about seat covers and I was hoping you would share the
name of the company and any contact info where you had them custom
made. Her birthday is coming up and I thought it would make a great
gift.
Thanks so much for your reply,
Devi
The low-cost option would be to buy a slip-on cover from an auto parts shop or discount store, and just use the bottom part to cover the damage. Wouldn't look as good as a custom job, but would cost a LOT less. You might be able to find a slipcover that matches the color of the Elantra's seat. If you go the slipcover route, be sure it does not cover the side airbag on the outside edge of the seat back.
I'm considering 2010 Chevrolet Cruz and new 2012 Ford Focus. I think Hyundai dealer was oohm c'mon this is compact car. Please let me know your prices and experience with new 2011 Elantra.
2011 Elantra Limited in Indigo Pearl Blue, Limited trim
MSRP: 20,800
Final Price:19,500
+8% MO state and local sales tax, tags, and admin fee. Final OTD including all that will be 21,250 or so.
I got a pretty good discount through my USAA membership, made the deal that much easier. I went to 2 dealers, one offered me 19900 but then would never give me a final number, and was throwing the entire pressure sales book tactics at me.
So we went with smaller, nicer and easier to deal with dealer. First price was 19,900, lowered to 19,500, which is way under TMV and truecar price.
I might have been able to get a few hundred more off with the bigger dealer, but they annoyed me greatly. Here's an idea guys, when I tell you I am coming back and want your final, no BS, no more haggling number, and you still wont give me a figure, then I am out of there. It was interesting comparing everything they were doing to the Edmund's Confessions of a New Car Salesman story.
What color did you get? All the dealers in MIssouri have are the White, Pearl Blue, Black, Bronze, and Silver. No reds or dark grays yet. Supposedly the factory is ramping up production and no one has seen those colors yet. Curious if that is just here
From looking at a couple of other dealerships in the STL area, most of them have received only small amounts of cars so far, and inventory now is down to a few of the black, a bunch of white, and a few silver.
Signing tomorrow and picking up, I'm pretty excited. Congrats on your new Elantra!!
Other than the dealer not turning on the mode switch in the fuse panel, I have observed no issues with the car. Got 40 mpg on my first tank of gas (~85% highway miles).
I live in the Los Angeles area.
For the record really enjoying my elantra. Really does get 40mpg on the highway, so far around 33 in mixed driving "> <img src="
I am a Chicago resident looking to buy a new 2010 Hyundai Elantra Automatic GLS. I used the truecars.com and cars.overstock.com with a best local price at 14,8xx. I was wondering whether you could negotiate the price lower than the local price by at least a few thousand(2-4k). Tax is going to be a killer, it's like 8.5% in Chicago. Since, it is 2011 I have called up some dealers that still have at least 9-15 elantra in their lot and that they want to get rid of it asap.
What strategies do you recommend on negotiating a OTD of 10k-11k that includes the tax, title fee, etc... Should I ask every dealer their best OTD price or give the OTD price I want?
I am seeing 14K or so for GLS 2010's here in St Louis, so around that price range is a good starting point for negotiating I would think in Chicago. They are currently offering 1500 cash back on (not sure whether they are already factoring that in to that MSRP)
But for them to cover tax and tax for 11K total would mean a drop of over 4K for them off the base price. I'd be hard pressed to believe they are that desperate to move the 2010's yet.
But it can't hurt asking several dealers for their best OTD price via email. Dont get pulled into the dealership to get a price quote as they will more than likely pressure you for a few hours before giving you a price. And whatever price you give them to start with, they will come back with a way higher price.
Contact every Hyundai dealer within 50 miles via Edmunds , tell them all you want a GLS and are soliciting bids from all the dealers, ask them to give you their best OTD price, and if they wont give it to you via email, then throw them away.
You may also want to look at any demo or loaner 2010 Elantra GLS they may have. You could get one for much cheaper than MSRP if it has several hundred or a few thousand miles on it.
Oh, if they ask upfront how you are paying (and you intend to pay cash) just say you havent looked at that yet. I told them upfront i was paying cash, which probably hurt me from getting a slightly better deal since they get such a good profit margin on doing the dealership financing.
Good luck!
The dealer's actual cost on a 2010 GLS is about $15,274 factoring in holdback, the $1500 incentive and regional ad fees. So selling at around $14,800 already represents a loss of almost $500. As weeks go by, the dealers will grow more and more motivated to get rid of the 2010 leftovers and will take increasingly greater losses on them. But waiting it out is a gamble because they'll become harder to find and you could miss out entirely....
One option to get the price down, if you can drive a manual transmission and you're willing to do so, is the 2010 Elantra Blue with Comfort Package. It's simply a GLS with 5-speed manual instead of the 4-speed automatic. It can be bought for $13,600.
In addition to the $1500 Customer Cash Back, there is one other incentive that may help you save! It's a special low APR financing deal but it also includes $1000 Bonus Cash AND it can be combined with the $1500 rebate, so there is another $1000 to work with! I'm not sure whether you're paying cash, already have financing secured thru another lender or whatever, but you may want to consider this! Even if you were planning to pay cash, perhaps you could put 50% down and finance the balance at 3.9% APR for 60 months, then pay off the loan in a a few months. If that's your intention, you need to read all the fine print and determine if there is a mandatory period that you must keep the loan without having to pay back the $1000 Bonus Cash and without an early payoff penalty. Maybe you can find a way to take advantage of this!
Good luck and I hope you get a great deal!
Including taxes tags etc, sounds pretty good. considering most starting prices right now are around 14,800 or so for the same car .
What was the starting sales price? Did you guys get any kind of rebate?
I don't think 10k-11k OTD (or even before taxes and fees) is realistic on a new 2010 Elantra GLS automatic. But I think ~14k before taxes and fees is very doable.
My dealership sold out of their initial Elantra allotment, and several others are down to only a few each (in St Louis) so anecdotally I would say that they are selling very well and they are pricing to take advantage of the desire to be one of the first to have them.
Of course there are deals to be had. Mine was a limited with list of 20,800 and i got it for 19,500 (incl destination) before tax, tag, etc. I have talked to a few other dealers and they are working in that price range as well for the Limited without nav (incl destination)
Not sure about the GLS
Does anyone here have a similar impression?
That being said, normal asphalt blacktop highways or normal roadways off-highway is the same or quieter than my VW Passat was.
to pay 19,500 like I've seen in another post. Which dealer did you go to in
Sacramento?
$22,880 MSRP, $21,500 plus tax and license. Without navi, your price preference is about the same deal I got, around $500 below invoice! See my previous post about it. Good luck!
