for some reason...that seems to happen as the weather gets colder. i find the greatest degree of success when i shut the ext cab door firmly and then the front door firmly. slamming either has not produced a greater success rate. fyi...

I had 2 97 F-150's and they were the same way I had to shut the rear door firmly by holding on to the door the whole time I shut the door and it worked fine,if I just pushed the door it would only half latch.

My 88 used to have a problem in the winter with the molding falling off above the door sometimes also..

I guess every region has its advantages I know if we had a hurricane up here in Alaska (acually it would be a typhoon) we would look like ducks out of water.Today it is -5F and getting colder as the day goes on.Up here we are so accustomed to driving on ice all we do is gravel the roads in winter so needless to say if you dont four wheel drive you do not venture to far off the highways up here.

i hear ya. i understand that snowmobiles and/or atv's are just as important as any other mode of transport. believe me, i laughed the first time we endured the threat of a hurricane down here. try to get bottled water or camping-size propane tanks a day or two before a hurricane and try not to turn too red when the clerks of the store are in tears laughing at the "dumb yankee". LOL! i know now, and i now have bottled water, propane and some canned chow stashed away just in case. (couple beers too, but i won't say anything if you won't!)

Good thing I got a locking rear axle on my 2500 4x2. We got about 5" of sleet/snow here in OKC. The steeltex radials aren't the best snow tires but the lockers saved the day. My truck would have been helpless in the snow without the lockers. A little extra weight in the bed would have probably helped too.

Ryan, and others, have fun in the deep snow - wish we had more snow here!

Whoever had the super ZLT snow chains, have you used them? Were they effective? Do you think the v-bar chains would be better? Would you buy them again? (I'm going to take a bunch of scouts to the mountains in northern New Mexico in February and am thinking a set of chains would be nice to have in case of an emergency.)

today GM rep called and stated that because I purchased a full size truck with a V6 engine that it will produce a ''nusiance noise'' when going up any incline (empty) and that the techincal dept.is aware of this and may or may not fix it in model years to come and as far as GM is concerned thats all it is period...The only funny part about this is that before I purchased the 2000 V6 I owned a full size chevy 1979 truck with a in line 6 with 189k miles that never once was noisey going up hill even loaded that I sold thinking Id get a stronger V6 @200hp.also I spoke to a attorney that has told me that for $76.00 fileing cost he will sue under state lemon law and I will get all my money inculeing taxes (minus mileage) which he said is appox.13 cents per mile in this state and that he is paid by GM and that GM will not take it to trial because it is a jury trial and would be more costly if they lose there,he said the only way I could lose more than $76 is if I back out in the middle of proceedings .His charge is $2000 which is payed by GM and that I dont appear in court .He also states that GM has never 'not' setteled any cases he's handled. So Id be just getting my money back minus mileage reported on first repair order date.

Well I've tried this twice and neither post made it.

    Short version:

I found a way to get access to the roof from the inside without removing the headline and routing the cable under the headliner and trim to the dash, etc.

If you want to know more, email me at cmac@ionet.net and I will send detail info.

    Hope this post makes it!!!!!!!!1

Yes, we're having log on problems that we're currently trying to fix. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, fyi, questions/comments about the new software are being addressed in News & Views topic: New Software! Your Questions Answered... .

And now back to the topic of the Chevy Silverado. Thanks for your patience. ;-)

    Hey,
If you're wanting a break from this new format, go and read the "Letters to the Editor" over in Editorials on the homepage. There's a not so very nice letter from a former Rado owner that switched to a Tundra. IMO I think some of the letters posted should of been thrown in the trash instead of posted for all the world to see. My .02 is that I really like reading Edmunds and all (not really ALL) of your/ours posts.

  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
My guess is that the guy who wrote that letter never owned a Silverado, and I seriously doubt he own a Tundra. People with that attitude don't have time to drive 43,000 miles in two years. I bet he's a 17-year old Acura Integra driver (with japanese symbols on stickers all over the car to make it "fast") who has never even ridden in a truck. Or an American car.
  • xringxring Member Posts: 129
All I can say to the Tundra guy is that I've owned the same Suburban for 16 years and traded it in July this year for a 2500 Rado. I loved that old Suburban for 200K miles and hated to trade it but I had no space to store it and I love my Rado - 6000 miles with nary a complaint. All I can say is that Chevrolet has been good for me.

    Call me satisfied.

Just took delivery of a 2500HD extended cab short bed Duramax/Allison with LT trim. This is my first diesel, so any tips any of y'all may have would be appreciated. So far I'm impressed.

The bookmark trick does work - it brings you back to the same page, but it don't work as well as the old placemark did. Oh well, its progress. I guess Edmunds is working on the posting problem.

    Where is everyone?

    John
  • xringxring Member Posts: 129
Congratulation on your new truck. What color is it? What other options did you get?

Sounds like what I wanted but I couldn't wait for the diesel to become available.

Keep us informed of your experience with the duramax, etc.

I made the switch from Firestones to Bridgestone Dueler H/L and they are great tires. No more wheel spin when it rains. No I need chains to go up to the Pass. Any suggestions about what type and how much I should pay? Thanks

Since this is the only board I read and post to (usually, anyway), I am finding it FASTER than the old one as far as getting to it. The bookmark on Netscape takes me right there without having to go through the regular log-in screen, and if I need to post, I just click the LOGIN tag. This may actually be better in some ways than the old one, especially once the bugs get worked out.
  • mblrdsmblrds Member Posts: 41
I geuss Ryan blew a gasket big time when his placemarks disappeared and left in a huff. No reason really to let your shorts wad up on you. You get over it and learn the new format. Chances are you'll find some really neat features that'll blow away the previous format. That's the way it useally is for me. Sites are always changing so, Get Over It!

I too have questions about tire chains for my y2k 2500. You may want to check out this site: www.scc-chain.com
Another company name Laclede (not sure about the spelling) in St. Louis also makes tire chains - they have a web site but no prices.

    Good luck.

Since the Duramax seems to be appearing now, I wonder if any of you know if a 3500 chassis cab with the Duramax and Allison can be had yet? An F-350 with diesel will cost me $26,000 and I am weighing the possibility of getting a Chevy/GMC that I am sure would cost more. I am looking to put a dump bed on and need the diesel. Any help would be appreciated. Since it seems hard to post right now, I am including my e-mail address. Hope this works. I don't like the new Town Hall system so far either! gglasscock@home.com

gotta be honest witcha...new format doesn't bug me much. only thing that sucks is the lack of placemarks. but scrolling through doesn't bother me that much. gives me the opportunity to see other topics that i otherwise wouldn't have looked at, as i usually go straight to my placemarks.

as for the letters to the editor, yeah, that dude seemed just a little biased. kinda makes you laugh though, ya know. "you guys suck...wah wah wah. why don't you like my truck best...i do! wah wah wah." LOL! ok...yeah, i'm gonna take that guy seriously.

Have some questions based on my doing some service at 29 k. Although dealer wanted to do a "major" service, I balked at that, telling them all they were doing was a lot of "checking", and not much "doing", all for 470$$$ ! Truck at dealer's today, for some fixes, and changing drive train fluids (autotrac, auto tarns ,differential). Also having them change fuel filter, and cabin air filter (couldn't find that , although didn't look that thoroughly- have console with buckets) Fuel filter looks interesting to replace. I got one at All Pro, but it has a warning on it " pressurized fuel system, must bleed system before replacing". Filter is on inside chassis rail on driver's side. Where the heck do you bleed it? Replaced Air filter- easy, but all the little crevasses had to be qtip'd , and then vacuumed out the sand. Pulled plugs, cleaned them and checked gap- interesting that factory gap is 55 - 57, but sticker on fan cowling says 60? I opened them up to 58. Anyone have any experience with this? Also noticed the plugs have dielectric grease on them, albeit a small amount. Again, the dealer cited they "check" everything under the sun. I can do that. Let em know your servicing experiences. Thanks- Tom S.

    tom -
you're a little ways ahead of me (i just turned 18k). but...yeah, i like to check everything myself too. never messed with plugs or fuel filters, but before i got this truck i never changed my oil/filter, lube, or changed shocks either. so...i'll prob'ly figure it out. i think that what you did is as good as anything. i'll prob'ly just ask what it is they consider a "30k" update, ask them what they intend to do, get a list, do all the stuff i can myself, and then tell them, here's what's left, how much will that cost?

Anyone having problems getting the rear door(s) to latch completly? My 2000 4dr X cab does not want to shut very easily when the outside temp gets below +15f. Once the inside cab is warm or the truck is inside a heated area all is OK.
Been to dealers 4 times and nobody can fix it right. Once it warms up then the doors will be too loose or have excessive wind noise. Chevrolet/Detroit is of no help.
This could be a safety issue if the rear door doesn't shut tight as the front door latches on the rear door.

I live in MN, so cold days are not uncommon. I know the real fix would be to move to San Diego, but that is not in the cards.
  • salesrepsalesrep Member Posts: 17
I am thinking of replacing the factory shocks with some aftermarket shocks to try and get rid of the dip and dive. The factory shocks allow too much movement and it give a slushy ride.
    Any recomendations?

    Hello,
Have any of you used a Jacob's Electronics ignition system with a Silverado? When I trade in my '86 Town Car, the Jacob's Electronics ignition system will come out of it, and if I can use it in my new truck, why not? Any input you guys have, will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I suggest Bilstein ODs. Cheaper than Edelbrocks, and they don't have that nasty habit of changing damping in the middle of a turn.

I had the factory Firm Ride' shocks, and they were too mushy, even empty. I tried the Z71 shocks, and they are OK when empty, but mushy when loaded. The Bilsteins were great all the time. Even my wife liked them better than either of the factory shocks. I took them off and sold them to boo when I pulled my camper off the truck.

I have a 2001 LT four-door extended cab. All doors shut nicely with only 'normal' effort, and there is no related "road noise".

I also live in Minnesota. (Gotta love these heated leather seats these past few days!) And the heater is the best I've seen in *ANY* vehicle I've ever owned.

Yea, for the past month, I've had trouble getting the driver's side rear door to latch properly. I had it in this summer because it rattled. They fixed it, but now it gets really hard to close in the cold. The bottom of the door never wants to latch fully. But, when the truck or the outside air warms up, the problem goes away. So, now I hold my hand on the door about 1/4 the way up from the bottom and close it forcefully keeping my hand on the door the whole time. Seems to work pretty good.
