Loosh: lemme know if you ever need some help with that wine. ;-)

Also, it's warming up if you're still thinking about that service. Get all the parts first, then we'll pick a Saturday if you want.

Don't run over fire hose couplers with an STi v5 suspension and 16 cases of wine in the car at the same time

I hate it when that happens! LOL

Hey, that's the ESPNZone I'd suggested when Ken came to visit. I knew the wings were hot but this is getting out of hand!

paisan: pretty soon you'll need a car dealer's license! Get before/after pics of whatever little projects you take on, K?

Then you can come up and auto-x it. Since it will be a dedicated car for auto-x and track use, we'll likely be using it as a training car for TeamIAC.com and anyone else who doesn't want to use their own car to get into the sport.

Dennis: e-mail me your street address again, please? I want to snail mail a couple of things to you. Enjoy the trip to SC. I got to drive on the new Route 22 week before last - what a racetrack, almost no curves from Aynor to Restaurant Row. Keep an eye out for state troopers though; I saw one motorcycle trooper (BMW for you bike guys) parked on an overpass, on one knee and pointing a radar gun at oncoming.

Serge: With your background have you considered getting into software validation?

paisan: Congrats on the beater Impreza L. Will it be a future autocrosser, rally car, track car, ice racer, or what? (edit: your post got in before mine so I see your intent.)

I remember that ESPNZone! Interestingly, it was Loosh who wanted to go to a local place rather than a chain.

Loosh, were you smiling when you were looking at ESPNZone going down? ;-)

    Ken,

Hope everything goes smoothly for you and your wife. If the baby does decide to get here a bit early, don't worry. My wife was a "premie", and the only thing bad with her is she was crazy enough to marry me:-)

Keeping fingers crossed that all goes well!

Loosh: Sorry I couldn't be there to prevent the damage. I'd a TOLD you to never drive over a fire hose! :) (sorry - professional pet peeve)

    Tongue in cheek....
    Cheers!

I too am glad that you understand the distinction. For instance:

    I AM a Beemer
    Loosh DRIVES a Bimmer

    G'day

So what is a ESPNZone? Obviously never made it to Australia and I can't work out whether it is an acronym or restaurant chain

    Cheers

It's a bar/restaurant with a sports theme. ESPN is a major sports network here in the US.

I had a beer at that one a few years back - cost $9 for two brews...ouch.

ESPN is a sports-only TV station in the USA. There are actually two that I'm aware of: ESPN and ESPN2.

ESPNZone is a spin-off of that, and yes it is a restaurant/sports arcade chain combo, if you can imagine such a setup. I've never been to one, although there is one in Baltimore in the Inner Harbor. There are a number scattered throughout the USA. Perhaps someone who's been to one can elaborate a bit further.

Graham- it is a play on words and acronyms. ESPN is a cable sports network. the scoring area of an American football field is referred to as the "end zone." Hence ESPNzone.

It was a small fire, the restuarant is open today. Guess BFD over-reacted.

Paul- trust me, I wouldn't have normally. It all happened very fast. These hoses didn't even have water in 'em yet...they literally ran them out in the middle of traffic right in front of me.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
when I get a moment to breathe I'll look up what I need and get it ordered. Then we'll set a date.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
er, thanks for the endzone explanation - I didn't get it either.

This whole hose thread reminds me of the photo of the Bimmer parked illegally next to the fire hydrant. The one with the fire hose going through the broken side windows.

The scene from backdraft where they say "I hate to do this but...." and smash the windows.

    ESPNZone/Jillians/Dave and Busters/several other chains

    all similar.

    G'day

Sounds like my idea of hell. I am not a sports fan, generally and find cable TV pretty wierd.

I think we've eaten at a Dave & Buster's. At least the saving grace is that Fast Food and gassy beers is what the US does particularly well. That sounds like a put down, which it isn't. I really like eating the local food and drinking the local booze so we really enjoyed tripping from fast food joint to fast food joint across the USA. I have fond memories of drinking beer in bars all round the country.

    Cheers

There are a few other ESPN channels now, too, like ESPN Classic. IIRC there's an "X" channel too but I forget the name (geezin' again).

Graham: where else can you pay $10 for a greasy hamburger? ;-)

    What a bargain!

Speaking of food... I guess I should find a place near the Javits center for us to catch a late lunch after the auto-show.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Given the time crunch, we'll have to see. We may eat on the road, drive thru or something, then snack at the show.

Taking a group like ours out to lunch would take at least an hour, and I'm not sure if we'll have that kind of time.

Let's see, we'll play it by ear. We have at least 20 debuts to check out.

What time are you guys thinking of heading out of the show?

    -mike
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
yea it's pretty much hell. Hence the fire I suppose.
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
Actually I was at one last year. Fortunately, it was as a guest for one of the Electronic Trading Networks. It was pretty fun - they had a "pit crew" contest in which you had to use an air wrench to take off one tire and put on a new one. Because it was a closed party, the contest they had going wasn't valid -grand prize was trip for 2 to some place warm for the fastest change time.
They also have a bunch of sports themed arcade games, as well as TVs showing any and all sports events going on.

The beer was decent, and the food was good; especially since it was free:-)

I dunno, maybe 5-6pm or so. I'm sure we'll end up getting home late. For us it's prolly 5 hours or so driving each way.

Here's a great big THANKS ! to Ken and Kana for tooling around town showing me the sights and sharing dinner with me during my recent excursion to San Fran. Ken's Forester is immaculate - put me to shame, lol.

Delightful people. We spoke on the phone later that week, so I heard about their scare with Kana.

Still crossing fingers and "squeezing thumbs" (German equivalent) for them.

For Ken and Kana and all those who might be heading towards Denver in the foreseeable future, my offer of free beer at our place still stands. San Fran introduced me to Anchor Steam, a new favorite, but I'm open to suggestions... :)

Catching up at work, project deadline's been moved up a couple of months, so it's back at it now...

Interesting that you mention visiting a Crew member, I just had Lucien over today for a quick look under his car. Check out M&R for details, but it's always cool to meet up with the folks here.

I'm looking forward to meeting some of the MD, PA and NY Crew at the NY autoshow on Friday.

Noon at the Subaru area, right?

Why can't I make the autoshow this weekend? Because we escaped NY for sunny FL!!! Splendid China today, small stuff tomorrow, Sea World Thursday, Disney parks for a few days...

    Steve
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
Who needs sunny FL when it was close to 80 in SE PA today?

But, it's going to be chilly rain for the show on Friday.

    Enjoy your trip, Steve.

Likewise, it was fun meeting up with Brian. Glad to know you made it home okay, Brian!

Next time, I'll have to show you some other Bay Area brews.

HAH! It was 85 in South Bend, IN today (and we're nearly in Michigan) .. this after snow 8 days ago ... lol

um ... and ... uh ... subies just run great through both and anything in between!
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
The doctor wanted Kana to stop by the office to see how she was doing. As suspected, she's further down early labor. She's still been getting contractions even while on medication. His guess was that we'd be parents by the end of the week!

Anyway, I installed my first infant seat today. We bought a Peg Perego. I tried installing in the center of the rear seat of our Jetta, but it made it impossible for me to comfortably drive. It fit a lot better on the passenger side rear seat. I'm having CHP take a look at it and give their blessing.

Out of curiosity, why do infant car seats state the center of the rear seat is "prefered"?

Safer in a side crash if they are in the middle?

I see Hypov at least 1-3x a week if not more sometimes! We catch up with bat1161 1x a month usually.

    :)

    -mike
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Typically, the preferred location for a child seat is where it fits the best. Of course, if this happens to be the center seat, all the better since it's equal distance from both sides. Don't fret about it not being in the center - if it won't work there, I'd rather have a proper fitting seat on one of the sides than a poor fitting seat in the center.

En route to the hospital yet? ;-)

Can't wait to hear the good news! I'm focusing postive thoughts and quick delivery your way.

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Thanks for all the well wishes. We appreciate it!

No, not on the way to the hospital yet but Kana tells me that her contractions are getting stronger (and that's under medication). The bags are packed and we're ready to go at any time!

We're still narrowing down the names from a list of three -- but no "K" name.

Gorgeous weather here yesterday and today. :-)

Sweet, Ken. I'll guess the birth will occur on Friday, while we're at the NY Show! Let's do a pool for the weight?

    I say, hmm, 6 lbs 12 ounces.

The middle seat is best protected in side impacts. Also, a center lap-only belt is easier to fasten than a lap and shoulder belt. Use a locking clip to get it tight and keep it that way.

    I say 7lbs 2 oz. K&K...good luck!

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Passover and lovely Easter holiday.
    IT'S TIME FOR RALLY MATZVAH !!! and the prunes to go with it ;-}

OK... I say early-ish labor = big baby, anxious to join the world: 7 lbs, 14 oz., 20.5 inches.

Ken: Best wishes & hang in there (again), DAD! All my best to Kana too, of course!

Cheers! (with an eye toward a champagne toast)

    juice 6-12
    Serge 7-2
    Paul 7-14

First, to Ken & Kana - Good Luck, may everything go smoothly!

As for the baby's weight, I say 6 lb. 7 oz.

    Second,

A Happy holiday to everyone, whether Passover or Easter! Serge- pass the choroseth(sp?).

Looking forward to seeing you folks Friday.

I'll go small, say 6-8. (Edit - urgh! The 6-7 undercut me! Can I take 6-3?)

Know what? Never mind. With the main topic of today's posts in mind I'll go the other way and say 9 lb., 2 oz. Yeah, 9-2, that's the ticket!

Still crossing fingers and toes in Denver! Best of luck to Ken, Kana and baby K.

    Pool entry: 6 lbs 3oz.
