87k ....? .. miles are a little on the TALL side ...
If the paint is in super shape, no body butchers, the service history is rolling out of the glove box and it looks/feels and drives like 35k (needs rubber) .... if so, then the dealer probably paid the mid/tall $11's, might have gotten real brave and stepped into the low low low low low low low low low $12's .. add a this and a that, and it might hit the table at the high $12's - and thats a big maybe ..
No wonder he lowered it from $17,900 .. the only person that was interested was the guy who lives in the Maytag refrigerator box under the bridge, and he can't buy steam off a hotdog ...... $15,900.? .. $14,900 would just about kill it --- can we spell: tires ....
Terry, my son is considering buying a new (05) Vibe or Matrix...similarly equiped, the Vibe is about $3,500 cheaper....with the available rebates ($2,500) and dealer discounts ($2,581 from MSRP). Matrix:($750 rebate, and about $1,400 discount from MSRP) My question....will this be enough to equal out the expected lower resale value of the Pontiac over the Toyota in , say...3 years? I say expected, as Intellichoice, Edmunds, etc all indicated a lower resale value for the Pontiac, and the Prism/Corolla values indicates that this will continue here. Your thoughts please, as he may act as soon as this weekend.

In NY .. CPO ..? .. 02 Honda EX, 4 banger, good color, auto, very low in miles, looks clean ----- and the little devil is asking $15,900 .... clean history, clean service, deep round things, nice car..? ... If so, then the dealer probably paid the mid/tall $12's maybe even the low low low low low $13's - maybe .... probably smacks the table in the mid/tall $13's ... $15,900.? he's not trying to hurt anyone, maybe $14,9/$15,5 .. there's more Honda's running around now, than blonde Rap singers .....
........ I'm no math genius .. but $3,500 is a lot of enchilada's - and as time goes by, there will never be that much difference between the 2, especially in 15/25 months when folks finally figure out it's the same vehicle .. I also prefer the "look" ..
Trade side: 03 GT's with 25kish are seeing the $10ish figure .. the Yota XRS's are seeing the $11ish figure right now ....... what price glory.?
This dealer has four of these, priced from $18,900 down to about $16,400.. this one caught my eye because it had the factory hardtop.. Take a look, and tell me what you think.. I think the MSRP on this one with the hardtop had to be north of $28K. http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/ida/inventory_frame.jsp?dealer_- - id=76278&result_car_id=null&mis=IADABDMGDA312&car_id=- null regards, kyfdx ============================
The guy has like 40 cars on there .l.o.l.. are you talking about the Merlot one.? it's a NB353, it's an LS, nice little drivers .. dealer might have the $14/$15 range in it, probably would cut it loose for the strong $16's.? .. I bet he bought em' at the Detroit auction last week ...
And.. I think you are right.. I've talked to him before... I believe he gets almost all of his Mazdas out of the auction in Detroit. He has been in business a long time.. seems like a real straight shooter...

Buying, selling.? .. How about a location here slick, and a little better description ..? instead of: I date small girl with blue eyes in brown dress ...
I know I asked you about this one a couple of months ago but it appears as if my dear husband is ready to let go of his baby in hopes of getting a TSX/TL/G35.
You said private party of around $8500 for this:
1994 Lexus LS400 Anniversary Edition 125,000 miles Pearl white/tan leather Options: Everything. Nakamichi, memory seats, heated seats, roof, leather, CD changer. Exterior: a couple of slight dings. Otherwise, it's in great condition. Previous owner must have had the paint treated because dirt and bugs just rinse off. Paint is still very glossy. Interior: Non-smoker, everything works. No rips, tears, stains, or french-fry invasions. Very clean overall. Mechanically: It needs it's 120,000 mile service. New Michelins with less than 5,000 miles on them.
I will be trading in my wife's very clean 1996 328iC black on tan leather convertible. We are near Knoxville TN and the dealer I am to trade with is in Roswell (Atlanta) GA The details are: 64K miles, 2.8L, automatic, driven very gently by the little old lady (ouch, she just hit me!..she is 58'ish). One small ding on drivers door that is easy removed by paintless dent guy. Shiny paint and polished rear window that you can SEE THROUGH! Serviced at 3x the rate the factory suggests for oil and fluids etc. Have replaced the common failures that these models all experience (thermostat, climate control computer, new battery, new radio and put in CD, new final stage resistor for fans, new brakelight switch for brakelights and cruise control operation (twice), new headlights, cabin air filter, new brake rotors and pads all around, In other words WELL MAINTAINED and properly serviced. The car is equipped with the Sports pkg. that includes computer, "M" class steering wheel and alloy wheels, sport seats and sports suspension, It has skid and traction control, Manual vs Automatic selector for tranny, Michelin MXV tires with >60% or more left, dual climate control, but on negative side has a flaw on passenger side seat bottom with a slight pull off of finish (1 inch by 2 inch) where something got stuck on it (can be repaired). What is a fair trade in value to dealer offering a 2001 Mercedes 320CLK convertible at $35K with 17K miles. My first time to ever trade in a car. Just looking for a fair deal not to beat anyone out on a transaction. All service records available to new owner (we are non smokers). MANNNNYYYYYY thanks....Bigdad
kyfdx....I've bought a couple of cars from Rallye. Good guys...fair...straight shooters. It's probably been 10 years since I wandered onto their lot, though. They may have even moved (they still on Galbraith?)
If in the market, I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.
I was out sniffing around today and I came across this one. I am not really a MB guy but I took a quick test drive since I had never been in one...it was nice...small...slow...but nice.
2004 MB C 240 - dark metalic blue leather auto dimming mirror CD-changer rear sunshade (i think) I cant remember if it had a slider or not...sorry Only 9k miles...the guy said they did not certify it because of the low miles. Condition is what you would expect from a 9K Benz...but I did notice quite a few rock chips in the front bumper. This is at a MB dealer so I would imagine it is a trade-in. The guy told me it was just reduced to 26,999 until we got in the car for a test drive and they have a 24,999 tag sitting upside-down on the passenger seat. I checked the dealer's website when I got home and they have it at 28,999! Perhaps that was in Belgian Francs?
Car is located in majestic Tulsa, OK
What do you think? Anyone have experience with the "baby benz"?
Yeah.. I shop there regularly.. still haven't managed to buy one from him, yet... They are still on Galbraith.. Do you remember when they used to be on Summit, in that little place behind another house?
I'm always checking them out, because he stocks the kinds of cars I like.. late model imports, mostly... Plus, I always get a good vibe there.. which is kind of rare in car sales..
The closest I came was in '90.. He had an '89 RX-7 convertible with only 9K miles.. I had a car to sell, that he really didn't want... About my third trip.. finally decided to buy the RX-7 and sell mine privately.. Someone else was looking at it, when I got there... We were discussing price.. just BSing... took a drive down to the corner store with him to get a soft drink.. Got back.. and his wife had sold the car..
Moral of the story: If you miss out on an RX-7, you might end up with a Porsche.. ;-)

I posted this in the pontiac listing...and didnt get much of a valued response. I was wondering if you could help me
Right now Im just looking to sell my 1992 Bonneville, but I want to get the highest price out of it that I can. Maybe 4 grand, or above, maybe? I can tell you a bit about it but I dont have any pictures on hand at the moment. It has all the factory stuff like power locks, power seats, high quality spears, etc, but what I can really tell you is the things that came optional or that I added on, which is remote start and lock, rear spoiler, NICE Panasonic CD player, new battery, not too long ago I put on some new front control arms, and some other things that I cant remember at the moment. The only downfall of the car is a few makeup flaws in the paint, but its old, what can I say, otherwise she runs like a dream, really, she does. I kept really good care of it, always washed it by hand and that kind of rit-rot. I just need a more newer, dependable car for college, since I have to go 300 miles back and forth. And for it being a '92 it only has 86,000 miles on it, which is pretty good I think. So what should I ask for it?
92 Bonneville with the FACTORY cd player. Honestly, anything non-factory is going to hurt selling it to most people. Who on earth wants a Bonneville with a rear spoiler.
If it runs A1, ask $2500 and take anything over $2,000. Face it, no matter what, it is a 14 year old car with paint issues.
If it had everything factory on it and no paint issues, and all maintenance up to date, basically front line ready on a dealers lot with some warranty, it could carry an ASKING price in the mid $3K's and an out the door at $3,000.
$4,000 or more? Not very likely. Maybe half that amount is a more realistic number.
You have a conflicting statement in your posting. You want a newer more dependable car, but yet you say she always runs like a dream. So why get rid of it? Pay the extra money and have it properly maintained and inspected for your 300 mile trips. You will have to do this on any newer car as well. The 3.8L and transmission in that car will last with proper maintenance a very long time, many over 200K and still going.
In your area, there is an asking price of $3,900 at a dealer for a 98 with 92K on it, $4850 for a 98 with 86K on it. So thinking you can get anything close to $4K for a 92 with paint issues and aftermarket crap, not likely.
If you really want to sell a vehicle .. you always need to give potential buyers 20 good reasons why to buy, not one or two reasons why "not" to buy, especially on the private side ....
Miles are low for the year - great.! but make it look like it .. a super detail, a great wax job, make the interior look good, some new rubber, get the history and have it a blowin' in the wind, have the factory radio available just in case, finish any service, etc etc ..
The hand buys ~ what the eye see's .. and if the eye see's a 14 year old driver with dents, rips, stains, rust, engine is all gunked up, the rubber is almost bare and it runs like a lawn mower, then your going to get what your selling - nothin' .... if it's all dressed to go, serviced, pride of ownership shows, then it will sell for a fair price, it's kinda like all of these home makeover shows, thats no secret, I've been doing that for 20 years ..... $3,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $2,5/$3,5 -- remember, it's a 14 year old Bonneville, not a Baume Mercier .... Ego and greed, the 2 most expensive things on the planet ..

Great description - Tanks ..
Nice little town Knoxville ....
Soooo, we have a 96 convert Bimmer328i .. sniff sniff - I can smell the pride of ownership from here .. miles are low for the year, serviced, fixed, you can see out the back winder, dents repaired, rubber is ho-hum, color is so-so for Atlanta-but it's been cold and it will sell with the sports pack - and of course no repaints, right.? sounds nice ..... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $7's, might get the dealer to wander into the low low low low $8,0 region ...
You need to to be looking at the "difference" figure only -- your vehicle and "X" amount of peso's .... 2001 Mercedes 320CLK convertible at $35K with 17K miles .. super clean, super cared for, clean history, seats look hovered in, no paint by numbers, etc ... dealer might "maybe" have the super tall $29's low/mid $30ish range in it .. so figure your ride and "in and around" the $25ish zipcode .....
Good luck and let me know how it goes .............
Sadly, We were first offered 16K, said thanks, no. Took it to Carmax, they offered 13,400! Said there was a repair to the left quarter panel, I said yes, by authorized GM facility, for 5mph underground garage thing. Looks perfect, no frame damage etc.
Anyway, called dealer 2 (the one we bought our pilot ex cloth at. Told them we had been offered 16K and that it was simply not enough, that we needed 17500. He got us to 17, and we said deal - to be done with it. In the end, we got the Pilot at about 1k Under invoice, and they beat our pre-approved finance rate.
Smoothest transaction we have ever had.
Not happy about the trade value, likely the last US branded auto for us for a longgggggg time.
WHAT???? After all the arguments, the posturing, and the discussions... you trade this thing in like a grownup, keep the ego out of it, and get it done???
I've been reading your oeuvre and been wondering the whole time where you were going with this. I guess now we know.
... ** Said there was a repair to the left quarter panel, I said yes, by authorized GM facility, for 5mph underground garage thing. Looks perfect, no frame damage etc.** ...
Obviously it doesn't look puuuurfect and someone (sounds like everyone) caught it -- like I said before: if it needs stuff, start deducting ..

Pull a fender off a Bimmer, Infiniti or a Benz and watch $5,000 disappear faster than Casper the Ghost ......... sounds like $17 was the whole Coma se' Yama - and the bag of chips .........
kyfdx....yes, I do remember Ralye's old store. I remember it being around a house, and "in general" the part of town. That has more to do with faulty memory than anything else, though.
That's a funny story about the RX7, however.
I've been to their Galbraith store a few times. Bought a nice used SAAB 9000 (nifty turbo number) from them a long time ago. They always have nice cars...and on occasion....some interesting ones, too (clean older Benzs and Jags). They were always willing to "shoot the breeze" with me about anything they had on the lot. They know lots about the stock they have on hand. Usually a good selection of Mazda's, too. I always got the feeling it wasn't only about "moving iron" to them.
THE NOSE is doing fine. Thanks for asking. I'm breathing better although it's still a bit tender. My face is still a myriad of colors not found in nature, however. There are some who are saying it's a definite improvement over the way my face looked before the accident.
I'm feeling pretty good about my assessment of chums Suburban. Can I be a "novice member" of Terry's and Stein's trade in value club? What's the initiation like? Do you guys have any sort of "hazing" ritual to gain entrance?
yup, it was the G35 sedan we were discussing. as you can see by terry's response, those numbers were accurate. Yes, harsh depreciation indeed. The coupes seem to be quite a bit more valuable. Go figure.

Baby Benz time ..? ... 04 C240, loooow miles, no-sale blue and maybe a slider.? ... these are kinda like the X type Jags, everything is an option and the prices can range by $2,0/$8,0 .. the whole point with these is buying one right, and $24,9 is a great price ... depending on the options, the dealer might have the strong $22ish/$23 range in it, and $26 wouldn't kill anyone ..... if the miles are low, no Maaco, no french fry invasions this could be a good deal -- just be ready to unload it when the warranty is getting close ..

We got the handshaker thing going on, 4wd, it's a Ecab, we have the no-sale green with the tan guts, 70k, V6, wheels, liner, power pack, you say it's in ok condition, rough rubber and we have new stoppers .... depending on the dealer, trade side, in and around the low/mid $10's, "might" maybe see a dealer wander towards the $11 figure .. rubber will probably hold it back ...
Me personally .. I would get me some new rubber, finish any service and have the history super-glued to the dash, I would get with the Dukes of Detail, get me a super 5/6 liner Ad between Florence and Columbia and go: $13,900 *asking* and wave bye bye at the first $12,5/$13,5 .... done right (and no issues) I bet you will see $12,9ish - these stupid things get stupid money, even with 70k ...............
Terry....yes, my RX8 (that I was getting ready to trade for a Corvette) was "man-handled" by a Dodge RAM. Unfortunately, I was in it at the time.
Broken nose, bruises, some airbag burns, but I'm no worse for the wear. I can think of better ways to have my nose broken (at the hands of a jealous husband, perhaps?).
As long as Mathias doesn't ask me to do a "Fear Factor" stunt (like drive one of his cars that doesn't have "Big Gulp" cupholders), I'm in.
what is best for me to do? My husband and I are separated and I need his name off my vehicle. I was told I needed to trade it in, but the payoff is 34,000.
Refinance the car in your name only or sell it. You will need him there to sign off on the car or he will have to give you power of attorney to sell the vehicle.

In CA here...94403. A local independent sales lot has a 2002 530i w/sport & premium package, black on black with 34,000 miles that they bought at an auction. Can you tell me what would be a reasonable offer? Personally, I'd like to stay below $30K. Given that they bought it at an auction, do I have any leeway? List price = $34,995.

I went back on Sat to take a good hard look at the C, it and POOF...it was gone. The salesman said they sold it a few hours after I looked at it...oh well, it was too small and slow anyway. Which brings me to the E320 he directed me to. I have never driven one...he helped me out with that problem...and I have to say that after some seat time in the E-class the Infiniti I-35 seemed to lose a bit of its luster. Go figure!
So here is what he had: Silver, 2002 E320, MB-certified, 31K miles, slider, bun warmers, OK rubber, overall good condition...no nav, no xenon, no back-up beep beep
Another one which is "just reduced" to 28,999 again here in glorious Tulsa, OK
She couldn't possibly owe $34,000 on a 94 Lexus. Maybe she replied to the wrong post. The post she replied to was one that akangl directed at me and my 94 LS a.k.a. "The Spider House".
BTW: Thanks for the advice Terry. My in-law is supposed to purchase it at the beginning of March. If she doesn't buy it for $6000 she's missing out.

In NY .. CPO ..?
Terry.
Trade side: 03 GT's with 25kish are seeing the $10ish figure .. the Yota XRS's are seeing the $11ish figure right now ....... what price glory.?

The guy has like 40 cars on there .l.o.l.. are you talking about the Merlot one.? it's a NB353, it's an LS, nice little drivers .. dealer might have the $14/$15 range in it, probably would cut it loose for the strong $16's.? .. I bet he bought em' at the Detroit auction last week ...

Hope all is well. Debating a trade for a new 3 series, wondering what a fair trade would be. Thanks.

A while back I asked about my munched 2001 Solara Cvt SLE... It's got 55k on the clock & new shoes, but the GF put it into the median.
At this point, does this thing have any trade value at all, or do I need to fix & flip it? If the latter, know any good Atlanta body shops?

Things are great - thank you ..

Pearl white/tan leather
Options: Everything.

64K miles, 2.8L, automatic, driven very gently by the little old lady (ouch, she just hit me!..she is 58'ish).

Only 9k miles...the guy said they did not certify it because of the low miles.
Moral of the story: If you miss out on an RX-7, you might end up with a Porsche.. ;-)
How is the broken nose?

After all the arguments, the posturing, and the discussions... you trade this thing in like a grownup, keep the ego out of it, and get it done???

Pull a fender off a Bimmer, Infiniti or a Benz and watch $5,000 disappear faster than Casper the Ghost ......... sounds like $17 was the whole Coma se' Yama - and the bag of chips .........

Yep, thats the first thing that pops into my head when I think about Tulsa ~ majestic .. of course, I get that same thought when I think about the Simpson family ......

Go figure!
So here is what he had:
Silver, 2002 E320, MB-certified, 31K miles, slider, bun warmers, OK rubber, overall good condition...no nav, no xenon, no back-up beep beep
Another one which is "just reduced" to 28,999 again here in glorious Tulsa, OK
BTW: Thanks for the advice Terry. My in-law is supposed to purchase it at the beginning of March. If she doesn't buy it for $6000 she's missing out.
