that's gotta be in the wrong thread, future models or General SC for sure, but WOW... good job subaru.

it should be fairly successful at those prices and it leaves plenty of room for a more powerful model. turbo H6 maybe?

You rebel hacker, how'd you do it? Don't answer that. :P

Pricing looks great. Like someone said, a 5 pax limited is actually $1200 less than an Outback VDC!

Originally they said it would pick up where the Outback left off, but it looks like they actually start some $3 grand less than that.

A loaded one will run $6 grand less than an equivalent MDX.

#80 - Subaru Press Conference - Can't get over how excited everyone looks! :D

#75 / #77 - Bangle got his hands on a Hyundai??? Looks like the 7 series rump.

Looks like Subaru did their homework pricing the Tribeca. That pricing puts it in the Highlander and Pilot range.

At that price maybe I'll look at one despite the way it looks. ;)

(I'm just joking- please no flaming!!! :surprise: )

Somehow a Bangle'd $20k Hyundai is easier to swallow than a $80k Bimmer though. :)

Yeah, that the XG350 replacement, Avena? Avesa? Some name like that.

Sure does show BMW influence, though the inside is much warmer, probably aping Lexus more than anyone.

Car looked very nice, though. No longer a punch line.

The big Kia gets heavy, heavy discounts, some owners pay under $20k. That Hyundai gets a new more powerful engine so I doubt it'll be that cheap, but it still should be a good value at $22k or so for starters (street price).

is the name of the luxury Hyundai vehicle. With all the bells & whistles it will be priced at under $30k. I'm actually liking the car and will wait for a test drive. It should be a nice 2nd car to toss around ;-)

I think I was thinking of a facial soap my wife buys. :D

I'm not a fan of the C-pillar or the Bangle trunk, but the interior of that car was very, very nice.

We'll send Bob over to visit Opel to send more of those over to the US while we put a bean counter in the US to stop the red ink.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Sounds like a demotion to me, especially after he suggested getting rid of under-performing brands at the NY show press conference. I bet he retires soon.

Hmm, did Porsche only get a short-term benefit after all? Last year it represented over half their sales, but sales are down: 27% for the month, down 23% for the year so far.

Could it be that all the gotta-have-its already got one?

This morning I spotted a local gas station with premium gas selling for $2.85/gal. I was speaking to a co-worker of mine who told me his local Shell station has premium now at $2.99/gal.

I think I'm going to be working from home more often!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
We're not far from that and it goes up daily.

I hope this lowers the average size/weight of the car on the road, but it probably won't.

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
$2.46/gal for premium (91) here plus a nearly empty (but undersized) tank resulted in a $31 fillup this morning... I'll be enjoying my motorcycle for another reason this year it seems, as it gets at least 36mpg and 40-42 mpg could easily be attained with some throttle restraint.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wife told me she put $33 worth in her Legacy and that's regular! Of course the gas tank is a lot bigger than the EVO's.

Hey, I got a Lancer EVO key chain while in NY, you want it Colin? Or do you find stuff like that cheesy?

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Yeah, with premium prices the way they are here, I typically hit fill-ups in the mid-upper $30 range with my GT. I still catch myself doing double takes at the pump.

I can't imagine what it might be like for large SUV owners.

I have a friend with a Suburban and she's afraid to fill up her tank, I think it's 44 gallons!

but with gas prices as they are the Legacy rocks. Note to crew members, give one a test drive. If you think the 2.5i has adequate power (I do) it has the best gas mileage of any Subaru I have owned. 2 to 3+ both city and highway compared to my 98 Forester. I wonder how much better it would be if I had the 2.5i manual sedan which is a couple of hundred pounds lighter than my 2.5i LTD auto wagon.
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Ours is a 31 gal. with the 5.3 engine - the 44's are the 6.0 or larger engine.
We get pre-loaded gas cards thru a $crip program at school (fund raiser), so we usually only fill up $25 at a time - unless we're at Costco.

I predict a lot more gas drive-offs are happening.

    Cheers!

We've put over $100 CDN in the Yukon a few times, and that doesn't go very far when we're towing the Airstream.
Paying about C$4.14 ($3.40 US) per US gallon for premium here right now. That's over C$50 every trip to the pump. Luckily I drive so little that I only fill up the WRX about twice a month.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Gas over $3 a gallon in CA:

    http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2005/04/09/BAGOBC5R3Q1.DTL&o=0

One station off of highway 1 near Big Sur reportedly is charging $3.65/gal!

I thought the Auto actually got better mileage than the 5sp? (EPA rating) I don't know about real life driving though. Can anyone verify this? I've never owned an Auto Subie. :)

Maybe my next one. . .

Same here, BTW, all manuals so far. Dad has an auto but I doubt he even measures his mileage.

I wish I did not have to own an auto but after 35 years of stick shifts (the last 2 being WRX's) my left foot went out on me--some kind of repetitive motion thing and I had to get an auto. At least the sportshift is amusing when I am in the mood to shift. The EPA on the manual 2.5i Legacy is 23/30 and 22/30 on the the auto. I am now regularly showing 23.4 on the mileage computer around town. Keeping mind that it runs about 1 mpg high I am still slightly over the EPA for my car. With only 8000 miles on it and both of my WRX's getting their best mileage post 20,000 I have only good mileage to look forward to. Also all three of my previous Subarus (I had a 98 Forester first) got 3 mpg more at high altitude because of less wind resistance and the EFI leaning out the mixture for the lower oxygen (yes even the turbo). So I am looking forward to the annual Colorado trip. If I got 30 mpg out there with a turbo and i have already gotten as high as 32 mpg here at 400 ft. above sea level i should be pretty frugal with the petrol.

Pretty neat Brian. I have had my ROB M plate for 23 years. It started on my Mustang GT, and eventually migrated to the Legacy GT sedan. I have plates in 2 colors, green on white and red on white. I swap them every once in a while for a change. Last year, someone stole the front plate off the car in my driveway. Rob M.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Bummer. I'd look in the phone book for every other Rob M. in your town and go hunt it down!

rob_m - you're in MA right? How you drive around on the green plate? I presume the registration sticker is expired.

Also, if you report your front plate stolen the Registry will take away the other and not reissue them until they change plate series again. But in the meantime, let's hope your plate isn't used in a crime.

thank you for use of your license plate. i had to wash it off after another late nite swamp run. btw please expect a guy with a smokey the bear hat, nightstick and a pointy weapon show up soon.

Registry has no problems with the green plate. It has a valid sticker. ;) As for the stolen plate, as far as the registry knows, the plate must have fallen off my car and gotten lost .... late at night .... in my driveway. I found a sympathetic supervisor who understood my 20+ year attachment to my license plate. :shades:

    LMAO, Dave. Rob M.

My brother had two '72 Mercury Montegos; one a 2 dr hardtop, the other a 2 Dr GT fastback.

Don't mind me, Dave, but I am about three weeks behind in my reading. My first car, my pride and joy, was a '72 Mercury Montego MX Brougham. It was the last of the light bumper cars, and had less restrictive emission controls (no EGR), making them more desireable than the '73's. Light blue 2 dr hard top, 302W engine, with black vinyl roof. High backed front bench with arm rest, leather interior. Bought it in '76 with 37k, sold it in '80 with something around 90k. As much as I loved it, my CB handle was "The Blue Lemon" for good reason. I learned to do a valve job at the tender age of 20, thanks to that car! Winsor engines tended to do that....

I spent months looking for a '72 fastback version (351C) of the Montego, or Torino, but they were relatively rare, and all driven hard and trashed by '76.

'72 Mercury Montego MX Brougham. Light blue 2 dr hard top, 302W engine, with black vinyl roof. High backed front bench with arm rest, leather interior.

His was also an MX Brougham (bought w/ 102k miles). Dark blue 2 dr hard top, 302W engine with white vinyl roof. Pretty sure his had the high backed front bench but with vinyl interior (IIRC, it was dark blue vinyl).

I spent months looking for a '72 fastback version (351C) of the Montego, or Torino, but they were relatively rare, and all driven hard and trashed by '76.

The engine went (timing gear?) in the hardtop so he replaced it with a 351M (M = modified cleveland?) truck engine (from F150 or F250) and a C6 transmission. After that, someone pulled out in front of him from a side road and he crushed the front end. He bought a worn red '72 Montego GT (pretty sure that had a 302W also) that was had some rear quarter panel damage. He ran that for awhile then put the GT front end on the hardtop. The hardtop was then dark blue with a red front end. :D

    I had a '71 Torino fastback w/ a 351C-2V (bought in Jan '78 w/ 45k miles for $1000).

    bwa-hahahaha!

but, it gets better. My replacement plates show up like 6 months later. Instead of ROB dot M, they are ROBM. Back on the phone to the registry. Their explanation is that they stopped using dots in license plates years ago. They put me on hold, then came back and said that they would special order a set with a space in place of the dot. Two weeks later, the new set arrives with ROB M. I wanted to ask for an underscore, but figured at this point, I was pushing my luck. Rob M.
