    Pagemaker? PAGEMAKER???

Do people still use that dinosaur program?

Yep. I'm no graphic artist but I use it. Want to convice my boss to spend $600-$1,000 on something else? When I took a training class on it about 5 years ago, I suggested the MSFT buy Adobe. You would've thought I personally insulted all the "artists" taking the class.

Not being in the know, what is the hot, sexy product to use? Our printer uses Quark and always complains about the PM files. But 5 years ago they were perfectly happy to suggest PM.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I use both Quark Express and Adobe's InDesign. Many design pros feel that InDesign is the best page layout program. I too like it, but because there are so many menus, I ended up getting an Apple 23" monitor, just to make my life easier.

I don't know of any advertising or design firm that uses Pagemaker anymore. Small in-house desktop publishers may still use it, but graphic designers have long ago abandoned that program. InDesign is far better. The latest version of InDesign can open Pagemaker files, and then save them as an InDesign document.

That sounds like us. Distribution business needing to layout simple brochures, mailers, and the such. Anything more would be overkill. Big stuff gets sent out to the big boys (ie catalogs, ads, etc.).

I mentioned this in the chat last week and finally got to getting a picture of it this weekend. It seats 10 very comfortably and is at least 8' long. Takes 2 people to move, it is not light. A friend of mine makes these tables from scratch and can't keep up with the demand. His latest one incorporates cupholders in the felt area.

This was his first table that he made. I didn't realize at the time that the felt was very similar to World Rally Blue.

Having attended a few events such as a fall foliage tour and other get togethers with the Edmunds Subaru Crew I wanted to extend an invitation to you all to come to our East Coast blow out in May. If you have any questions please visit the website I posted below and you can get in touch with me there. This event is attended by all sorts of folks with every kind of Subaru. I am bringing my 82 BRAT with 12 inches lift with 33x16in. swampers as well as my 04 STI with 450Hp. You will see everything from stock Outbacks to the latest STI.

The short story is this: Coming up in one month MAY 20-22 we will be having the 2nd Annual East Coast Subaru Show at the kit and import car show in Carlisile Pa. This event came out of the old school Subaru group at the Ultimate Subaru Message Board but it is NOT an old school only event. It is a 3 day weekend blowout about 2~3 hours up the road from most of us in VA. We grill, we drink beer, we BS and check out all the Subarus including everything from the early 360 and 70's wagons to the RX turbo, my monster ER27 powered BRAT, and all manner of Subaru history up to the latest STI. Last yar we had several XTs. We have our own club area on the show field and I can't tell you how nice the show staff is, it is a very hassle and ricer free environment. This is NOT a ricer show, there are many great kit cars and imports that you don't see every day, stuff like Citroen ice racers, Lambo kit cars and Brubaker Boxes. If you come you will have a great low stress weekend of endless fun. The cost is $15 and you can camp on site for $15 more.

There is also an autocross at the event!

I can't tell you all just how great this event is and do it justice. No matter what year or model of Subaru you have this is the even to come to. The official website that has all the details on the weekend can be found here:

Long time, no see. If I can I'll go, that event sounds like fun.

FYI for the folks here, Scott met up with us at a couple of events, at the time he gave me a ride in his RS turbo. But I'd really love to see that BRAT!

Yep, I remember Scott. IIRC I ate dinner at the same table with him and a couple of others on the Fall Foliage Tour a few years back. I also saw him at a Subie event at Patapsco State Park here in Maryland, perhaps even before that.

Sounds interesting, but at this time I'm committed to a "Flapjack ride of NY" that Sunday. For anyone interested, it is a 25 or 40 mile bike ride through Staten Island followed by a breakfast brunch of flapjacks and eggs (you get to work up an appetite). Maybe next year.

Here the only thing anyone ever hears about it NASCAR, and it's ridiculous but the Taurus went out of production already.

I figured that article was not written here. ;)

  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Actually the Taurus in still in production. It was recently announced that production would cease in 2006.

Besides, Nascar ran the T Bird for about 2 seasons before it approved the Taurus for racing.

I wonder how long it'll be until the Avalon is out there!!

    G'day

Well, I'm determined to make the Chat today but my PC will not let me. When I log into the Chat Room I get the following message

You are not running a java-enabled browser. Either change the settings in your browser to allow Java, or change your Preferences in Town Hall to run the HTML version of the chat.

I am running IE6.0 under Windows 2000. I have Sun Java and the Microsoft VM running. I've tried fiddling with the preferences under my Edmonds log in and currently set to
    Chat Preferences
In a chat room, use the following display method:
    Java Chat Applet
    HTML / JavaScript Chat

I'm obviously doing something wrong but cannot figure it

    Any ideas

    Cheers

Oh yeah, remember you boys. You all should post your events more on www.subarubrat.com www.usmb.com and nasioc.com . I don't think I have had a finer time at most events than at the edmunds Subaru Crew. You guys are great. This is my flagship event. I am putting a ton of money and time out of pocket to make this happen and I hope you boys will show up. I feel in debt to all of you to show you a great time. And to those of you who got a ride in the 300Hp RS turbo, just wait till you ride in the 450Hp (soon to be 500 after the IC upgrade and re-flash) STI. The RS is junk compared to that. And next year, the XT-747 will be unwrapped. Think about it, if the XT6 is powered by a 6cyl, the XT-747 must have a ..... That is right, Allison A250 550Hp gas turbine!!!!!!!

But for real guys and gals. The keg is tapped, the sename and sunflower seed chicken is on the grill, ya'll have to come to the 2nd Annual East Coast Subaru Show!!!!
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
    um...

    1. edmunds definitely doesn't like posts suggesting forum participants read another forum, so if your post is gone later you'll know why.

    2. 500HP on a reflash? That is ridiculous! You need a programmable ECU well before that point... Everyone that has tried that has ended up being sorry when they run way off the map just dumping fuel wildly with the 25+ psi race gas setup. But hey, knock yerself out. :)

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a second car to toss around. There's a good possibility that we'll be moving to Atlanta soon (wife getting a job transfer), and there's a good chance I'll be working as a consultant again so I'll be doing alot of driving.

Wifey will have the B9, so I'll need something to drive around in but that's fun to drive. Now, before you go suggesting the Leg, my issue, as well as many others is the MPG is not all that great. So, I'm looking to get a vehicle that can hit high 20's to low 30's, realistically. I'ld like to keep the cost between $15k - $22k. Also, I prefer MT as I've grown bored (with reason) of driving around in a AT vehicle. As much as I wouldn't want a FWD car, it seems I don't have much of a choice.

Oh.. the vehicle has to be reliable and cheap in price. Am I asking for too much?

I've been researching on some and I've narrowed it down to 2 maybe 3:

    '05 Mazda6 (maybe hatch)
'06 Hyundai Sonata (but the MT, seems to be too vanilla with no options)
'05 Nissan Altima (but gets pricey with some options)

Heck, I'm even looking at coupes.... uh... Cobalt SS maybe? *ducks*

Keep in mind, I'm ~6'5", so don't try suggesting an Echo ;-)
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
What, no Subies on your list? What about an Impreza RS, with the driver's seat pushed into the trunk?

    Bob
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
HA.... well, I've driven both the Mazda6 and the Sonata ('05) and they have decent amount of space. The RS might get me in trouble if the cop finds the car running on the highway with no one in the drivers seat position. ;-D
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
300 Touring? I bet you can pick one up for dirt cheap. No MT though.

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
you gotta be kidding me, who would buy that car and not get the V8?

    ~c
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
I don't want to be 'touring' my way to the gas station all the time :-p

...and you can't have the 300 if you don't have the HEMI!!! ;-)

Well, is my short list even worth talking about? Hey, I'm even researching the Mazda 3 SP23; fully loaded with sunroof and NAV is $23k MSRP (which I won't pay) ;-)

Now I just have to test drive one... :-D

Any advice, insults (keep it to a minimum), suggestions? Remember, fun/cheap/MPG.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
ya I'd consider one of those. a bit small for a family, though.
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
It'll be basically for me. When the family goes out, then the B9 will be our hauler ;-)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
God bless you, a turbine powered Subaru? Hysterical. I will really try to make it out. That would make my day. Week, even. :D

bigelm: Mazda3s 5 door or Outback Sport would fit the bill. Both have torquey engines that could, unlike the Civics and Corollas of the world.

The 3 might be more efficient and slightly quicker, but the OBS may actually cost less and offset that.

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Well i was saying the 300 Touring cause it can be had in the $23K range.

And RWD would be fine for Hotlanta.

I'm thinking of a Black or Charcoal 300 touring or 300C AWD as my next daily driver, when the time comes that the 94 Legacy is relegated to track only.

    Well allow me to retort.

    1. If saying that your group is a great group to socialize with and that you should let other boards know about yourselves is grounds for deletion then that is just going way too far. You act as if I was spaming with an ad rather than inviting your crew to an event.

    2. The STI already has the full vishnu 500Hp package in it (other than IC on backorder) consisting of an upgraded fuel pump, new injectors, the FP green turbo, inlet and IC hose package, a full remap of the ECU (which is more sophisticated and works better than aftermarket ones when it comes to the STI) and more than a few other additions. We have it dialed back just a hair now because I still have the stock IC and it is at it's limit for efficiency which is why we mapped for less than the goal. The final item going in that is part of the 500hp package is the upgraded IC, and then a reflash to utilize that fully. My previous Impreza, a 99 2.5RS, was sold last year with 150k miles on it at almost double the stock HP and it is still being run hard and as a daily driver.

That's not at all what Colin meant. He was simply stating that the moderators have the right and often delete references to other forums. You listed specific websites (i.e. the place we refer to as "nabisco"). We're not the one's deleting the messages!

We appreciate your kind words and this IS a very social and friendly group.

This is a very friendly group.

Unfortunately, it is Edmunds policy in the Rules of the Road where they restrict/govern the linking to other sites. I believe that many of us (myself included) have received a reminder for posting links in the past.

If I was closer, I would certainly attend this event with my 10 year old son, who shares my affinity with modified Subies. Rob M.
  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
there is another forum dealing with LEGACY and GT which considers the Edmunds crew to be 'mature' and 'knowledgable' - direct quote taken in context. ;) Rob M.

I want to know one thing. With all this HP you have how many times have you rally raced this car, how many road race courses have you done? How many HPDEs have you done? Or do you just use this 500hp monster on the street? Shame on you if it just a street car cause w/o the 500hp you can go just as fast on the streets as you do with 300hp.....

Whether he's got a 500 HP car or about his posting. He's new here, so let's cut him some slack, okay. He's really a very decent guy, who happens to love Subies, just like the rest of us. If anything, we should be thanking him for informing us of this upcoming Subie event. :)

I would very much like to go, but am not sure if I can, as we may be having company coming down for my daughter's college graduation.

Well, after much thinking... I think reality and common sense smacked me in the face...

Before I even considered the Mazda3 test drive, I considered at value, performance, comfort and so on... so guess who was on my list.... Leg GT. Seems like MPG is not that much different, so in reality, I can sacrifice a couple of MPG's for reliability and safety and much bigger car, for just about the same price.

Anyway, sorry to have disappointed you ;-)

    But, I'm back!!!! :-D

Now, if I can wait until the '06's come out. Anyone know when or rumors.. I can't remember if I read it somewhere.

We appreciate the invite and if possible I will try to make it down. We might be at the beach that weekend but if it turns out we're not I'll try to go. I'd love to see all 3 of your beasts. :shades:

99 RS eh? I know who you are from nabisco. I'm ColinL on there and I had a heavily modded 99 RS also.

Vishnu is NOT a remap. It is a programmable ECU. It just happens to connect in an expedient fashion. It is disabling all of the factory ECU's control of fueling and ignition. I was simply stating, correctly, that the stock ECU cannot be reliably reflashed for 500HP. You don't have a reflash at all.

    Wake up, folks! ;)

Got an Audi test drive offer - 55 songs from iTunes if you try an A3. So I went to the Audi dealer near my house.

Get this - their demo, for test drives, was wrecked! A red A3, I didn't get to see it so it must've been in the body shop, but there was no PDI'd model ready to test drive. I was curious to try the 2.0T engine out, even though you can't get it with Quattro (an absolute sin).

Any how, if anyone uses iTunes here's a chance to get some free music.

It doesn't sound good for GM. I hope Subaru has a "Plan B" in place.

    This deserves a seperate post.

In all honesty, I hope Subaru buys back their shares from GM and goes back to being independent.

Let's face it, this "synergy" nonsense has yielded exactly nothing for both sides. They sold approximately three Saab 9-2x models and by doing so managed to alienate 600+ Subaru dealers.

GM/Saab has now cancelled the Tribeca twin.

Subaru was going to get fuel cells from GM, but GM is too slow-moving to be a pioneer in that technology, so they'd be better off finding a different partner, like they did with Toyota for hybrids and batteries.

GM can't supply a boxer diesel, so no potential synergy there.

Seriously, where will either side benefit?

Hopefully the Tribeca will be successful and they can reinvest in themselves.
