msrp $23,740--- got it for $21,574- no trade.
looked at lots of other cars... mazda 3 has a brutal air conditioner - never could cool the car without fan speed being on high or medium high--- accord coupe manual tranny was the most "fun" to drive, but the jetta had more bells and whistles for the price. don't care for the automatic door locks as it's a pain to get out of the car and try to open another door and find it's locked-- any advice here? anyway, glad all this car shopping is over.
We had the dealer set ours up to do this (no charge), since we have VE and therefore do not have access to the computer menus, we could not do it ourselves.
One thing to be aware of after you make this change, the automatic unlock only works when the doors have been automatically locked. If before you start moving a door is manually locked, that door will not auto unlock.
For 2006s, my guess would be any incentives will be continued or increased. But of course the available selection will gradually decrease.
Last weekend we picked up our 06 Jetta GLI, custom-built from the factory (we paid invoice, by the way). On the drive home from the dealership, the car stalled at a red light, then locked itself into park when I tried to restart it. I spent 30 minutes directing traffic in the 105F heat.
It was diagnosed at a computer malfunction in the transmission, and we're still waiting for the new chip to be shipped from Germany.
I'm frustrated, and I feel like I deserve some compensation, but I have no idea what, and they certainly aren't volunteering anything other than apologies. Are we entitled to compensation, or is it just tough luck?
I had the transmission fail on my old Acura TL-S twice within 36k miles. After the second failure, Honda repurchased the car. It wasn't a lemon, per se, but they acknowledged the issues I had with it and recognized that they needed to make the situation right. Each time I had the car in the shop waiting on a new tranny, I received a rental car equivalent to the TL, but nothing in addition.
And frankly, everything else about the purchase was great. I'd go back to the dealership IF I were to buy another VW, which will depend on how often things like this happen. Hopefully never again.
I am now on my 3rd transmission, and even though the car runs now, i'm planning for the future by watching for signs of transmission rejection. Does anyone have some info? A word? Anything? Oh yeah, and the engine light never went off.
Am I in the ball park?
Any thoughts is this a good deal?
Thanks
I got a quote on a 2.5L auto + pkg1 + sunroof + cold weather =$21690+TTL, which is $10 below invoice. Is there room to go even lower? :confuse: By the way I'm in Massachusetts.
Thanks
However, after reading about problems people have been having with Jettas, I'm looking into other cars.
I love the interior, the engine, the DSG, and the 18" wheels. The exterior I am still unsure of, love the front end, but working back it doesn't seem to carry the theme out.
Two things that really irk me, is the Sirius only sat option, why not give customers the choice, it's a plug in module in the truck that could easily be switched at the dealer in 10 minutes.
The other is lack of power seats in the GLI. They are offered in the standard Jetta, why not the sport model?
Overall I love the car, hope the reliability is not an issue. I traded a 2002 BMW 330i with 70,000 miles, and I had a lot of problems with it ($1700 for an AC evaporator, $750 for an alternator, and $450 for an AC high/low pressure line, all in one month).
4 door, automatic, decent mpg, reliable, comfortable/confident at 85+ mph, and FUN to drive!!!
I’m considering the GTI (4dr), GLI, S40, TSX, WRX, EVO IX, Accord V6, and Legacy GT. Your advice, experience, or opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
First, let me start by saying that I am new to the world of VW. Can anyone tell me what a reasonable life expectation of VW Jetta is? My initial impression was that it's a "finely crafted piece of German engineering" and that it would go 150 - 200k without a problem. However, the more I read, the more I think my impression was wrong. I can't seem to find an average vehicle life though!
Second, I have a Wrangler and am looking to trade it in for something a little more fuel efficient. I found a manual 2003 Jetta GL with 33,375 miles. I talked the dealer down to 12,800 but don't know if that's a good deal or not.
Also, I am concerned because there seem to be a lot of vehicles made that year that have had problems and I don't want to give up my 2003 Wrangler for someone else's problem!
Any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks!
J
The blue book value of the 2003 jetta GL you mentioned is around 14,000, so 12,800 sounds like a good deal.
Good Luck,
Tom
Jetta 2.5 $20,290
6 speed Auto $1,075
Perfekta Package $704 (front spoiler, rear spoiler, silver tail lamps, $95 discount on Sirius radio)
Sirius Raio $375
Destination $630
Total MSRP $23,074
Invoice $21,3?? - not sure, since I can't find invoice for Perfekta package
Selling price: $18,074
So somewhere around $3,200 below invoice
The Perfekta Pkg. sounds like a dealer add-on, so I wouldn't assign a lot of value to it, but even disregarding that, you are still $4300 under MSRP.
That is a lot of car for $18K..

The Perfekta Package is on the original window sticker, and there was another one I saw with the same package, so I'm pretty sure it's not a dealer add on. I was told this was also called the "Northeast Package".
If someone needs an ad with pretty good pricing to start with or get your dealer to match, here is one (I didn't get the car here, but used the prices here as a benchmark when I was dealing.)

i'm in new york. i hear that there is a $2500 manufacture to dealer incentive for the 2006 jettas right now. is it fair to say that that should be applied to the invoice rather than msrp when looking to buy?
best offer i've received so far has been 19000 for an 06 jetta 2.5 w/ auto and package 1. can I do better?
thanks for the help.
I currently live in Texas, where I drive a Firebird '97. I will soon move to california where I got a job. I am planning on selling my Firebird here in Texas, but where should I buy the Jetta ? Here in TX or in CA ?
Thanks for the help
I have had my Jetta since July 2006. It is a 2003 Jetta GLS 2.0 Engine with 23,000 miles on it, and so far I never had a problem with her, she was in good shape and is dependable. Let us know how it turns out!
I'm about to lease another Jetta...this time leaning towards the GLI. I'm quoted a 39mo lease for $380/mo with $1500 down and 15k mi a year.
Seems a bit high to me but the MSRP clocks in around 26,500.
Thanks for any input...this is pricing for round #2 of the negotiation...
thanks!
I checked the VW.com website... 5 local dealers in Cincinnati.. Between them they have 20 Wolfsburg edition Jettas...
I realize the websites might not all be up to date... but, that doesn't sound like a shortage to me..

The car: '07 Jetta 2.5, Automatic, Pack 2, DVD Nav w/Ipod, Sunroof, 17" Wheels & Splashguards.
The deal: Selling price - $26,470. (I am being told that this is invoice - MSRP $28,415.). Residual - 55%. Money factor - .00189. Term - 39 mos. Miles - 12k/yr. Monthly payment (including taxes) - $391. (no more than first payment due at signing).
I have seen lower money factors listed here in this discussion - as low as .00149 for 2/07. Is the dealer padding this when they offer me a mf of .00189? They seem to squirm when I ask about it. Can this really be invoice? I cannot find a stated invoice for this car on Edmunds.com.
Thanks for the input!
THanks
Sam
Saturday I pick up my new 2007 Jetta 2.5 Manual with package 2, Nav with CD Changer, and Sunroof for $23,900 (location Maryland). I think the price you were given is high since the dealer offered to find an auto for $1,000 more. A price of around $25,000 is what you should be looking for.
On a different note, the dealer is telling me the 2.5 with Nav and CD Changer (which is located in the arm rest) won’t play MP3 CDs. This is very disappointing, as I listen to most of my music with CD’s I’ve burned. Does anyone know if this is correct and why? I know I can hook up an iPod or any MP3, but I’d like to be able to listen to MP3 CDs.
Thanks!
Thx
Could you post the dealership name?
I'm looking for the same thing, but w/o nav and automatic/sunroof, but all the price quotes i'm getting are right around 23500 inc freight
Thx
