Actually, I love the look of the 07. Can't wait till it comes out.
Here's the link.

But the back end looks like it is drooping, to me. I think it is the character line swoopng down under the tail light. And I'm not crazy about blue lighting. Love the front end though. Hope they upgrade the drivetrain soon. Any rumors there?
I don't know if the blue they're talking about is the same (I'll be a little disappointed if it is), but if so, that's a good upgrade. Especially if the other console lights are also the same color...

I'd not use that expression: what if the accusations start to fly that WMDs were hidden in an Elantra trunk?!
You were never in the service were you?

I was referring to the hidden WMDs in Iraw. That "failed intel" was government work - but not even close!
It was a play on words.
About WMD that is highly debateable but since it is way off topic I will leave it at that.

The only disasappointment is th use of a 4 speed automatic instead of 5 speed on the Elantra. Another 2 MPG gained by use of a 5-speed automatic and it would have been close enough to a Civic in mileage while still having a roomier and hopefully a slightly more quiet and comfortable ride than a Civic.
Maybe in 2 or 3 years, there will be a new engine and transmission for the Elantra.
At least this "old" powertrain will be prone to less problems than an all-new design.
Still waiting for it to show up on the EPA website.

Consider that if the fuel economy numbers were not official, Hyundai's website would probably say "Estimated".

It's not supposed to do that, but it's very easy to do because the lock button on the remotes sticks out and has a hair-trigger. So my '01 Elantra frequently self-locked just by having the keys in my pocket. They fixed that with the '04 models; the lock button is recessed in the remote.
Base price of the '07 Elantra is supposed to be under $14k but that is for a GLS that has less convenience features than today's GLS (and is probably w/o destination charge). For example, A/C, audio system, power locking, remote locking with alarm, and heated mirrors are all extra. But on the plus side ABS and six airbags are standard, and there is more equipment available as an option such as CD changer, heated leather seats, 16" alloys, and rear center armrest. I figure the GLS with Premium Package is the minimum trim I would want.
I hadn't heard that the Accent hybrid had fallen behind the Rio hybrid. I thought both had been delayed to '07.
Accent/Rio is still being green-lighted until the currency issues are worked out to a reasonable solution. Look for the Accent hybrid to drop first in the market, and followed by the Rio hybrid (has always been the plan and there are no change in development).
Overall, this just may be an even more compelling package in its class than the Sonata is in its; hopefully Hyundai won't peddle this vehicle at firesale prices- there's a post on the edmunds.com Inside Line homepage about a guy who purchased an LX ($25K MSRP), for under 19K! Thats great... but if Hyundai isnt turning profit it could affect the product pipeline....
I'm guessing the slow car market may fuel (forgive the pun!) the drop in prices across the model line: the whole industry is doing not-so-well right now.
It bodes well from a buyer's point of view, though.

Will that include starting the cult of "Blaintologists" and a promise to eat ones own head?

This is pretty technical for people like me, but there are interesting tidbits to be gleaned from it, e.g. there appears to be an option for user-configurable automatic locking and automatic headlamps.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Automatic headlamps and technogeek training!
I like, I like, I like!
But, I'm just kinda funny that way.
Oh now you're just getting my hopes up. I love my Elantra wagon and would love the opportunity to get another.

Indeed, this does pose an interesting situation for the Elantra, which seems to have moved a bit upmarket from before. If the Sonata is moving out around $16,000, I wonder which vehicle consumers will chose? From the pictures only, I prefer the Elantra's interior. (And for reason of the interior alone, were I to go with a Hyundai Motors Family sedan with a 4 cylinder, I'd take the Optima-plus it has the 5A).
I could have sworn there was strong rumors about the '07 Sonata featuring a revised interior?
~alpha
Hyundai isn't in the habit of doing major changes to the interior or exterior in the 2nd year of a new model. But they did add a new color scheme for the interior, will be adding XM radio later this year, and have addressed the lousy manual height adjuster by making the power seat more readily available. Not too shabby for Year 2.

The interior of the 07 Elantra looks promising though and nicer than the current models interior. I just don;t like the 2 tone plastics that Hyundai is using now(to each his or her own.)
I think Hyundai is going too conservative with their styling. The 01-06 Elantra looks better on the outside than the 07. Thats my opinion.
