Both Mossy Toyota and Kerney Mesa Toyota gave me the same deal. I went to Mossy first so I went back to them.

    Here in CA I bought a 2009 Corolla S w/ these options:

    Sunroof
    Jbl sound system
    Sport pkg
    Carpet floor mats
    Auto dimming mirror

and got the dealer to throw in the Ipod adapter installed.

    OTD at $18,666.49

Includes my '97 Chevy blazer w/ 180k miles trade in for $1k.

    So did I do alright?
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
How much below invoice did you pay after the $1750 rebate that Toyota has for Corolla S? In WA state, I am shopping for a Corolla XLE which has a $1000 rebate and the best quote I have is $1000 below invoice, which puts my OTD price to nearly $19000. So I think you did fine :)

a dealer is letting me negotiate a price for the 2009 toyota corolla le
what price should i start at?
  • bostonbenbostonben Member Posts: 71
    tyhd91: I would start under 15K. I got a quote for 15.2K in MA (list was 18,115).
  • frostbyte3964frostbyte3964 Member Posts: 30
What options does it have? Start at least $1000 less than you want 2 pay. Then meet them in the middle or where you want to be.
  • tyhd91tyhd91 Member Posts: 10
It has Vehicle Stability Control, Keyless Entry, and Cruise Control
    I started at 14,700
    is that okay?
  • frostbyte3964frostbyte3964 Member Posts: 30
Keep it close. That's fairly basic.
  • tyhd91tyhd91 Member Posts: 10
the dealer doesnt agree with the price.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
See my previous post. I pretty much outlined all the prices you can get. For the basic auto LE, I got down somewhere in the 14's.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
My gf got her S at about 2.5 K below "dealer cost" aka invoice.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
Well...it has VSC, so add about $150 to the price....anyways...go to the dealership...give them 14.5K. They will say no. Just walk out, wait 2 days....some guy may call and give you an offer of 14.8K. My gf did that at Boch Toyota before she found out about that 1750 rebate on the S. We low balled on purpose just to see what they would counter. They countered at 15.9K...we walked out...we got a call 2 days later with that price.

Sometimes you are better off just going to the dealership b/c lots of them do not want to deal with the internet b/c lots of the people are just jerking them around just to see what price they could get with no intention of buying.

    Hi,
The new incentives include both $1000 rebate and $500 "marketing support" for all 2009 corollas ($1000 for camry). I am wondering if anyone has bought a corolla after these new incentives took effect and what they paid; i.e. how much below invoice is possible. We are particulalrly interested in an LE and live in the Boston area, but any input would be appreciated. Because state taxes and fees vary, I find prices without them included the most useful--price, dealer "prep", and delivery---rather than OTD. However, would appreciate any info.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
For LE, it should be the same as it was in the previous month. Some dealers will try to hide that marketing support rebate, but it is still fair game. Essentially, you have a $1500 rebate if teh dealer does not hide it from you (they will claim that it is regional only, which in some cases can be true). I will tell you now, for an LE auto with nothing special, try not to negotiate more than 15K. You should get be able to get it down to 14.8K easily...and that does not include that marketing support rebate, so try for an amount between 14.2K and 14.7K.

BTW...that 14.8K is not out of my butt. Boch Toyota in Norwood, MA gave me that offer, but my decided on an S version instead. To give an idea, we got an auto S w/ sunroof down to $15,700 (sticker $20,505) with last months 1750 rebate @ boch.

    To give you a lowdown:

Ira (in Tewksbury) claimed they could match, but I did not bother, because i have not had good experiences with them.

Benardi (Natick) claimed they could match, but they could not get there. They offered $300 more than boch.

Harr (Worcester) matched the price, but they are too far from me.

    Copeland (Brockton?) matched the price

Herb Chambers (Boston) claimed they would match any price boch gave, but they want a written quote to do so and boch would not give me one, so i did not bother.

Prime (Dedham) said they could match, but they did not have her color she wanted.

All other dealers just cut contact with me when they saw I was just putting all the dealers in a bidding war.

Just go to Boch's website, pick an 09 LE you want and put in your offer (try 14,500...14,300 if you want to be agressive). That is how I got them to commit to a number when we bought my gf's corolla.

Hi all, I just bought 2009 Corolla LE from an MA dealership. Price including destination charge was $15,550 with 0% financing. Could have gotten it for $14,550 but it made more sense to take the 0% rather than the rebate. Car includes the all-weather package and keyless entry. Thoughts on the deal?
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
Sounds like where you should be. It all comes down to what dealers are willing to let the car go for 300-600 less. you did good....did it take mucn work to get it to that price? It took me no work to get it to 14.8K, but after sending that price around ans hassling sales people, I got it down to 14.5k (w/ rebate). I think there is more wiggle room, but my gf wanted the S version instead.
  • samgreensamgreen Member Posts: 13
    Hi,

Thank you ABChin for your thorough reply to my question. Jumbolaw, could you say what dealer in Mass sold you that LE. Also, if someone is eligible for the student rebate, would they take off another thousand-----so 13.5 with all rebates?
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
college rebate counts as a down payment . So....it does not go in as a discount, but as an extra $1000 (if it is still $1000) on your down payment (so the $1000 is taken off the post tax amount...also known as OTD amount). Also remember that if you buy a new car, you get to claim the taxes you paid at purchase at the end of the year for this year.

If you go and get the student rebate, you have to have graduated with in the past 2 years, you must take out a loan from Toyota financing, and your insurance must have collision...since you are buying a new car though, I'd imagine that you would do that anyways.
  • blakemsfblakemsf Member Posts: 1
How much did you get the S version for? I am looking at a manual trans S version. I still need to drive it to see if I like the manual feel of the corolla. I have drove an auto. They have $18,124 as Internet price. Can I get it down to $15-$16K? In Ohio.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
    you should be able too.....

I got it down to 15,700. That is an auto w/ sunroof....however, after we bought it, we realized that it did not come with floor mats...oh well. You win some you lose some.

A dealership in my area actually has the S advertised at starting at 15,3XX. I think that is the auto version as well, but that was 3 weeks ago with the old incentives.

Keep in mind that i had a 1750 rebate. Now the rebate is only 1000, but some areas also get a 1,000 "support" rebate to the dealer that is not advertised. If you get a manual, I'd imgaine that any dealership would just want to get rid of it at this point since manuals are a harder sell.

I'd offer 15K on the dot and see what they say. It's very agressive (when i shopped my price around, lots of the dealers just said no way), but if you have a big dealer in your area, its worth a try. That is my take on it.

Where did you buy and what specific dealership?

My daughter feel in love with the 2010 Corolla S today, after two days of looking at Civics.

Prices - Retail, Dealer invoice (supposedly)
    Base 17250, 15266
    JBL 1010, 758
    All weather 150, 125
    S EVP #3 355, 319
    Power roof 890, 712
    Carpet 200, 127
    Rear bumper protector 79, 49
    options 2684, 2150
    destination 720, 720
    TDA 0, 305 (advertising?)
    Gas 0, 7,32
    TOTAL 20654, 18905

Dealer offered at invoice, right off the bat (I have a relationship with them).

Dealership is Tom Wood, Indianapolis, IN

Any ideas where this ought to sell? Have sent inquiries to other dealers, but have not heard back yet.

Also, salesman said 2010 was better 'deal' then 2009, as price remained the 'same', with lower options/package prices. He did say there were no rebates available on 2010.

    Thanks,
    Steve

There is a $500 rebate for 2010 Corollas that are on the dealer's lot
  • airbossairboss Member Posts: 17
Thanks. Could you show me the $500 rebate on the 2010 Corollas on the lot? Three dealers have told me they have $1250 on 2009's, but NOTHING on 2010's. Thanks.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
There is a $500 rebate on 10's. It is not on toyota's website, but it is on car research websites. If you are buying the car at "invoice", I am pretty sure the salesman already factored it in, especially since they just got the 10's in.

At invoice for a 10 is pretty good, but why would you do that? There is around $2k worth of known rebates for 09's. Also, nothing has changed between the 09 and 10's, atleast nothing that is worth mentioning and last i checked, they still have lots of inventory, but they are going fast. Even if the options prices got lower (they look they same to me, but JBL may have been lowered), it would probably only make a $400 difference.

If you can find that car in an 09, you could easily get that price down to 17K by just asking. Also, you could have 0% interest for 60 months (jnstead of rebate). Is that offered on the 10's? Look at the above posts to see what people having been buying the 09's for. One of my previous post is a corolla similiar to the one you are looking at.
  • airbossairboss Member Posts: 17
Very fair question... mostly residual value.... I was told there was a $1250 rebate on the 09.... was going to go look at residuals on an 04 versus and 05 to see if there is 1250 difference. And, they didn't have a red S in an 09... But, there are plenty of those around. Will shop some prices and see. Thanks.
  • airbossairboss Member Posts: 17
Just went out and ran the numbers on the 09... It is, because of the package pricing, more expensive than the 10...same car, same equipment is 21595 msr 19361 invoice. Subtract the $1250 (I haven't looked this morning, but show $1250 rebates), puts the 09 at 18111, versus 18905 for the 2010. For 800, figure it's worth getting a model year newer?
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
Well...i will tell you this...if they can right out get you a 10 at "invoice", they should be able to ATLEAST match the 09 at that price with no rebate (you can get it 0% or 1.9% financing). The financing alone will save you atleast $1000, that is unless you are pyaing cash for the whole thing. As for the $800 difference....that is up to you.

Either way, try talking an 09 below the numbers you got. I lowballed a dealer to get the price we paid ( was not expecting a response back either), and they just called and said, we have a deal...take it if you come in today. If I had the 1250 rebate (mine was 1750 at the time), it would have ended up at 16,200 before tax and fees. Your car is about $1000 more (has the jbl system), so that would mean it would have been 17,200 with your rebate.
  • xavxav Member Posts: 23
I saw the rebate on Toyota's website 1 or 2 days ago.

As for the purpose to get a 2010.. well for one those models are all loaded with stability control.

Good luck to find an 09 S model loaded with VSC. It's only a $200 option, but dealers do not seem to have many cars loaded with it.

Also, by getting a 2010, you get the possibility to get the car the way you want by ordering it straight from the factory. No useless dealer installed option that inflates the price of the car. So the price difference is not as much as one would think.

I see in your description of features you have a "heavy duty heater." Is this something different than the normal heater in a corolla? Have you had a chance to try it out yet in winter? I asked our local dealer and he didn't know anything about this feature. Do you have any idea if it could be an after-market add on?

    Dave
  • airbossairboss Member Posts: 17
We don't have the car yet, maybe Monday.

The invoice lists it as 'All weather guard package: includes heavy-duty heater with rear-seat heater duct, anti-chip tape and color-keyed heated outside mirrors'. I don't have the 2010 brochure, so not sure if this is different from the 2009?
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
I purchased a 09 XLE (with stability control, 6 CD changer, bumper protector mat, and enhanced door sills) for $300 below TMV in Seattle area. In addition, I got the $1000 cash back rebate. The best quote I got was $500 below TMV for a black XLE but I didn't like the color. Most dealers I talked to refused to lower their price below TMV - looks like cars are still selling well in the Seattle metro area or there are too few dealers resulting in less competition :(
  • blackcorollablackcorolla Member Posts: 1
just wondering - which dealership did you go to, and what was your total OTD price?
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
Toyota of Puyallup, OTD price was around 19250 (I don't remember the exact amount) - which include 9/7% sales tax, license, title, and doc fees.
  • hot5redhot5red Member Posts: 2
    Hi,
This might be a very stupid question, but I have to ask. When I go to the dealer to buy the car, and wourl like to use cash rebates, what price should I subtract that from - MSRP or invoice? In my area there is a $1750 rebate and I qualify for a college grad rebate. So should I add these rebates, subtract them from reference price - MSRP or invoice - and take that as reasonable price?
Again, I know this is a silly question, I did not get a clear answer reading articles online.
    Thanks in advance.....
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
You should first negotiate a price with dealer before rebate, tax, lic, and doc fee. The rebate amount will be subtracted from your final purchase price. So if you negotiate $10,000 as the price, and tax, title etc are 10%, your final sale price is $11,000. Now subtract $1750 from $11000 to get your net sale price.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
Everything is from the negotiated price.

Here is how it goes generally....

rebates: subtract from negotiated pretax amount.

cash back rebates: subtracted from post tax amount.

What you need to look at the details on the company's website....

If it says applied as down payment, it is applied to the post tax amount.

Hi ! I am buying my very first car and would like some help.

For a 2009 Corolla CE/LE, a dealer near my house is offering the car for $200 over invoice. When the dealer says invoice, do they mean the Edmund's invoice price ? Does this sound like a good deal ?

When I start my bargain with the dealer, should I start from the Edmund's invoice price and go up from there or start from some $$ below the Edmund's invoice price ?

I am seeing some people buying cars for $500 *LESS* than invoice ! Can someone let me know how I can argue in order to get such a bargain (since the dealer can counter me saying they can't offer it below invoice - ie, they are selling at a loss) ?

    TIA !
    Maya.
  • bostonbenbostonben Member Posts: 71
Don't negotiate with just one dealer. Email several dealers in your area asking for their best out the door price with all taxes and fees listed out. When they're talking invoice, probably they are referring to Edmunds. But real invoice is not the same as Edmunds invoice--there are many hidden incentives to dealers, especially on a Corolla. Just as a reference, without doing any competitive negotiation, I received a quote of $15.2K for a 2009 Corolla LE in the Boston area (MSRP $18115). This was back in April, so I don't know if the incentives have changed since then.

I just bought a 2009 Corolla LE for $ 15750 (OTD - including Tax / DMV fees), San Diego.. Did I get a good deal
  • tarron06tarron06 Member Posts: 4
abchin486 What state did you pay this price for your corolla. I have contacted 5 dealers in my state and they are all within a few hundred dollars of each other. Also what was the msrp on the vehicle you purchased. Thank you I want a great deal but these posts are incomplete sometime and might not be relevant to my state or apples to apples equipment. I want to be fair and get a great deal.
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
I got it at Boch in MA.

Keep in mind that I had the 1750 rebate last month. Can they still do that price? I do not know.

MSRP was 20505. It did not come with floor mats, so you may want to try to get those thrown in.
  • tarron06tarron06 Member Posts: 4
Thats the difference right there different regions and different builds. Make since but in Michigan the price points are different so it seems that I am being offered 16900 on my sport 20,264 msrp might be a better deal. I was making assumptions on a different region and dealer showed me invoice. Thank you for your help. My number is allowing the dealer to make a few hundred dollars which is fair because I am getting a few other perks and they are their to make some money. I guess... lol
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
Makes sense....also it's VERY competitive here in MA. I literally have atleast 10 Toyota dealerships within a 50 mile radius and 3 of them are VERY big dealerships with high volume.

What perks are you getting? Does it come with car mats?
  • tarron06tarron06 Member Posts: 4
Yes it has floor mats. I did quotes all across the states and got no better price more than a few hundred dollars and wouldn't be worth a drive for that savings.Id rather pay a fair price for a dealer locally where I'll service the car. Michigan is competitive now but I am finding out that its just different price points in different states. I get a pretty good oil change rate too for the life of my car too. Thanks for your help
  • tarron06tarron06 Member Posts: 4
I did work them for a couple hundred more though thats about it
  • abchin486abchin486 Member Posts: 78
You did good regardless (and you got the floor mats!). Most dealers said no to 15,700 and stopped at around 16,400 (they all eventually folded, though and tried to sell it to me at that price), so it looks like you were pretty much at the threshold of profit and barely profit. I was going to push for more by asking for a free remote starter or something....but I said nah b/c no other place had the car in white and they would have to find it. Lots said color was no issue, but I am pretty sure they would have docked that $300 fee somwhere and like you, the dealer i bought it at was close to me.

    CONGRATS!
  • randy63randy63 Member Posts: 3
I bought a 2009 Corolla LE with Cruise, key-less entry, mats, all-weather-whatever. It had a MSRP $18314. I paid $15,500 "Out the Door" that includes titles, fees, 6.25% sale tax, $1500 rebate and a $800 trade-in for my junk 1998 Dodge Neon with a cracked windshield, leaking fluids and 116,000 miles.

Do you think it's a good deal or I was ripped off.... Thanks
  • randy63randy63 Member Posts: 3
Forgot to mention in my previous e-mail. The dealer gave me a Full Tank Gas, a Life Time Oil Change for this car and Two Kings Island Gold Pass (worth $160 for two). Kings Island is a famous Theme Park here.
