I'm not sure about the Outback, but I think that generation didn't have it. The 2000 Outback was the first to get the Phase II engine, so if I had to guess I'd say 2000 was the first year for the LSD, too, and only on AWP models. It became standard on all Outbacks in 2001 or 2002.
Boy, my memory is failing me. When you get old, they say two things happen. First you lose your memory. The other thing I forget. ;-)

juice- I thought the LSD didn't make it in until the MY2001?... then again, I think I have a corrupted sector in my memory :-D

I like to have one put on.

you're right on. 2000 was the first year it was offered on the OB. I forget the details but it may have been only offered on the OB Ltd in 2000.

I've got a little Euro car envy going right now (Euro BMW have auto up/down on both front doors, and remote window/roof open/close) I would be happy if I could get both windows to open with one push.
Can anyone with an electrical man. see if there is any info on the driver/window switches?

We had a nice 12" snowstorm here in NC and the Bean performed flawlessly, great traction and felt really solid. We also took it to the NC mountains a few weeks back. No snow on the ground there, but it had no problems accellerating up the steep grades, as opposed to my '91 Pathfinder that would ping and wheeze going up, and fade the brakes to much on the way down.
I love the car, too bad I never get to drive it!
They have good resale, you could probably trade it in for a WRX with little/no money out of your pocket.

Think I'll stop trying......

It is not just a matter of changing switchs there are relays involved.
You could alternatively go to a good stereo install store and have them install them for you.
There are several stores here in Ottawa that do that kind of work, and believe me if you can get it here, I am sure you will have no trouble in the States finding a good shop.
BTW. I was back in Ireland last year, and my friend had a 1990 Nissan Sunny, (not sold outside Europe) and both front windows on this car were auto up and down, are we getting shafted or not.
It also had retained accessory power, meaning that for a period of time if you did open a door you could for instance roll the windows up and down after you turned the ignition off.
Both my 91 and 93 Accords had this feature nice to have.
Cheers Pat.

I think pat came up with the rear wiper delay/ undelay
[undelay undelay :~p]

Any electronics I tinker with, for instance I just had a time delay made for an ignition illumination that I just installed, I have a friend I just tell him what I need he designs it and makes it up and I install it.
Actually the retained accessory should be relatively simple for any electronics shop to make up, it is basically the same idea as the dome light delay.
Basically I Think a resister and a capacitor that slowly discharges.
Cheers Pat.

And good luck!
My Wife and I traded our 1999 Hondas (Hers - Accord EX V-6 coupe, His - 1999 Odyssey EX) for the LL Bean (don't ask, long story about greedy employer). She is driving the 'Bean and I drive the 97 Ford Ranger 2wd 4-cyl that belongs my Daughter who is away at college. Anyway, my lovely wife does not have much good to say about the 'Bean other than the heated seats. I'll bet she'd change her tune some if we had a 'real' winter here in MN. She misses the power and agility of the 200hp Accord. Besides that it was red and a sporty looking coupe. I guess I cannot blame her too much. One day soon, I will get to drive the 'Bean as my everyday car and she can get her RSX Type-S.
In the Twin Cities, I have only had body work done by a chain that is now gone (Cara). They did do nice work. Otherwise I've had restoration body work done on my 1965 Corvair Convertible but it was done by a 'street rod guy' in Wisconsin.
Good luck!

I put about 20 miles on my friends '85 Vette this weekend. While not a GM fan, it is a very impressive ride. I asked him to take my Japanese exchange student for a spin, and he tossed me the keys instead. The broad smiles stayed for about a half hour after we returned to the party!!

We have an '00 OB Wagon and a '98 Civic right now, but as soon as a second child appears as if it is on the horizon, we plan to trade the civic for a new Odyssey.
We love the civic as well, but alas it is too small for two children - though I will say from a passenger space viewpoint it gives the OB a run for its money - and that's coming from a guy that is 6'7"

82k miles is a lot for a 2000. The timing belt should be inspected at 90k, replaced at 105k. But the labor is most of the cost, so I'd go ahead and replace it at 90k, plus do a major service (spark plugs, plug wires, tranny oil, diffy oil, engine oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, tire rotation, alignment, etc.) also at 90k.
At that mileage, condition means everything. If it looks great, it's worth it. If it's been abused or neglected (ask for receipts), then walk.

Was thinking about the 6cyl. Outback sedan, but we don't get snow (or winter, for that matter) anymore in NYC area. Global Warming? I think it is Global Burning and we just don't know it yet!

1995 Honda Accord V6, first model year heather mist metallic.
1998 Red Yardman 6.5 HP self propelled rear drive lawnmower!
In my case, I only get to use the Honda and the lawnmower. The Subie is mine on bad weather days.
Last week, I change the oil myself for the first time (all other changes done at dealer). The mechanics completely over-torque the oil plug and filter. It took every bit of my strength to get them undone. They also over fill by about a pint which bothers me. I use 5W-30 castrol (have used it in the accord since purchase) and change every 3K.

Sorry, auto recyclers. Whatever you call them, they can be a gold mine. That mirror costs $80 from an aftermarket catalog. Plus shipping. Plus tax in some states.
My fleet includes:
1998 Forester L 5 speed (mine)
1995 Mazda 626 ES V6 5 speed (wife's)
1993 Mazda Miata C Package 5 speed (my toy)
I've been trying to talk the wife into an LL Bean or something, but she doesn't want to spend any cash. I've also flirted with the idea of upgrading to a 1999 Miata when the price is right.

'97 Saturn SL
probably within a year we'd like to replace the Saturn with something else. my wife is pretty much set on a mini-van (specifically Oddessey), whereas I want something sporty like a sedan. we have 1 child currently and would like to have another, so that makes the mini-van more of a likely choice.

Now if they'd only get together and have kids:=) I see an all wheel drive convertible pickup in my future.
mike: an IS? You can't possibly fit 4 "paisan-sized adults" in there, can you? Is that just for autocross? Color me surprised in your choice.
Hmm, if my fleet had kids, I'd have a convertible SUV with a 6 cylinder engine. Sign me up!
What about the rest of you, what's in your fleet?

My car is an 01 OB wagon (h4/5sp). If you want to consider my girlfriend's car in my stable, it's an 01 CRV (EX,5sp). We bought them the same weekend last January on a whim...we both wanted something more practical than our 1999 Civics (mine 4dr, hers 2dr). Despite all the negative stuff I hear about the CRV here, I really love that thing...definately more impressive to drive than its stats would lead you believe. Both really good cars, actually!
