where did you find out about the $1000 incentive and how long is it in effect? nothing listed in edmunds. I bought my wife a 98 cabrio for true invoice in 9/98 after I found a $750 factory/dealer incentive on edmunds. if this current incentive is nationwide, I am sure I can get my dealer to do it again. baby on the way, hate to give up the sunshine, fortunately wife loves the pas sat, as do i.

I am also looking for a 2001.5 4Motion sedan in the Northern NJ area. Were you quoted prices for a lease or a purchase? Which other NJ dealers did you go to (and end up buying from)? I have just started looking and I'm interested to know what I can expect. Interestingly enough, I called Jack Daniels VW & Three County VW and they both mentioned not having 4Motions until sometime in April. Thanks!
  • namxleenanamxleena Member Posts: 9
I was told at the dealer that they do have a $1000 incentive but if I take that, I would not be able to get the 4.9% financing. So, the $1000 is there...it's just not advertised or published anywhere.
  • njcarlnjcarl Member Posts: 5
I did not purchase a 4-Motion myself; I was just passing some info along to Janus010 based upon my recent search and purchase of a 2001.5 GLS 4 Cyl in the Central/Northern NJ area. I'm a bit surprised that Three County said they were not expecting any until April; the latest inventory list they sent me dated Feb 2nd showed one GLX Auto-4 Mo (stock #618409)in PINE Green w/ Blk leather int. (I mistakenly stated Fresco Grn in my post y'day). Did you talk to or email their internet sales guy? Gensinger Motors is only a few miles away from Three County, although I did'nt personally visit them (but have heard good things about them from people I work with).

Anyway, I was interested in purchasing only. I finally made my deal at Linden VW in Linden, NJ. I also visited Reydel VW in Edison; good stock (big VW dealership!)but they seemed a bit rigid on the pricing - maybe it was just the salesman I had.

    Good luck in yr search..

We test drove the new passat last night and really liked it. It seems to be a big step forward for VW, especially interms of engine performance and sound isolation (much less wind noise). We are considering ordering one but edmunds doesn't have TMV prices up yet.

What would be a fair deal on a GLS V6, w/o leather, but with luxury, monsoon, and cold weather packages?

Anyone buy one in the DC area?

    Hi,
I would love to buy a new Passat. Has anyone had a good experience with VW dealers in Central Florida (like Orlando or Tampa or Jacksonville)? Also, do you think I can get the competitive prices on the 2001.5 like I've read about here?
    Thanks,
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
    Probably not...
  • snurplesnurple Member Posts: 130
Probably so--but only if you do your homework and shop around.

Check out vwvortex.com under the Passat forum for other examples of well-prepared shopping.

Thanks for the information! I've seen good things posted about Rusty Wallace overall.

Would you mind sharing what model and options you bought along with pricing tips?

    Thanks!

    So,

Did you ever get a Passat yet?

Nope, not yet. I'm waiting for the right moment. I haven't made a final decision to Passat or not. In the meantime, I'm just hanging around and chiming in...

And, just one minute here--I thought that you bought that Passat for a relative?!
If so, maybe you should drop that "cute li'l sig"--you wouldn't want people to think that you are an innocent VW enthusiast, and forget that you're a big bad dealer ;)

I thought I would pass along below part of an e-mail message I received this morning. It too comes from Rusty Wallis VW in the Dallas area. It looks like VW is dealing big time on 2001 Passat's as the 2001.5's are delivered in greater volume. By the way, I've researched 4 VW dealers in the Dallas area, and Rusty Wallis is offering the best deals on the 2001.5 Passat's.

    Peter

VW has provided us with some dealer incentives to move the old body style which has made this possible. However, the incentives are only available to us till the end of Feb. I look forward to being able assist you with your purchase decision. Sincerely, Murali Narendran Internet Manager Rusty wallis VW

Sorry, I left off the most critical part of the message...opps.

Our new internet pricing on all in stock 2001 Passats is $1750 below dealer invoice. VW has provided us with some dealer incentives to move the old body style which has made this possible. I live in South Carolina, in the Upstate and notice not a lot of them are willing to even come close to Edmunds TV. Can anyone recommend a WV dealer within any of these states who is fair and willing to deal? And should I just send mails or axes asking for the dealers best deal? So far I've been to Vi Barley in Spartanburg and a WV dealer in Greenville, SC and few seem willing to fudge from the MSRP. I'm interested in the GSL V6 with the Luxury and Leather package.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I am looking at the 2001.5, not the 2001's. What a difference in styling!!! Love the 'freshening' on the 2001.5 Passat . . . . Be still my wallet . . .

    Actually,

I do like the cars. Would you rather I posted the whole fleet on here? :)

Used to live in upstate SC but don't have experience with any of the VW dealers. You might try Atlanta. Jim Ellis is a pretty big dealership. Again, I don't have any experience with them- but they might be flexible with your price! Good luck!

We purchased from Rusty Wallace a 2001.5 GLX auto with an in-dash CD and tinted window for 7% off MSRP. But I heard they are selling the 2001 for $1,750 off INVOICE. I wish I didn't have to have the latest version. But, I'll tell you it is one beautiful car. I traded a 1998 colorado red GLS with leather and luxury package for my reflex silver/gray leather.... NO comparison!!! I advise to pay the extra and get the 2001.5...the front end is beautiful.

I have been looking for a passat for quite some time now. I have searched all over the south east region of the U.S. The best selection I have found for not only my new passat but also every other model of WV was at Schumacher VW in West Palm Beach,Fl on okeechobee blvd. They have a huge selection of the new face lift passats. Their prices are better than just about everyone.

If you live in the south east area, I highly sudgest that you contact Brandon Carson At Schumacher VW @ (561)312-9562. He was very helpful In assisting me in my VW purchase.

I'm thinking of buying the WV 2001.5 GLX automatic with leather. To get the best deal, price will go down when 2002 comes out surely. Approx how much lower does the price go? When does 2002 come out?

Have not purchased anything yet. Still looking for a deal. I decided to look for a GLS v6 w/leather and luxury and skip the 4Mo. I have visited DCH and didn't like their pricing. I have yet to visit a dealership in Summit. Thanks for the info.
  • janus010janus010 Member Posts: 7
Does the $1000 off or 4.9% financing apply to the 2001.5's and is this a nationwide promotion or is this given by select dealers.
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
Special Volkswagen Credit subvented rates apply
only to 5 Speed Cars...Jetta, Beetle, Passat, etc.
and 2001 MY cars. The $1000 Incentive money applies only to 2001 Passats; not 2001.5, and with the Passat the dealer can only
provide you with one or the other...You can get the Rate or the
    Discount, but not both...

Does anyone have any information on the new colors and where one might find a color chart. Several dealers have said that they receive cars well before the color charts/etc.

    Hi,
You can check out www.scottvw.com for the new color palette. They are really nice!
My congrats to anyone making a deal on the new 2001.5 .
I have my eyes on a GLX auto. The dealers in my area (Northern Calif) will NOT budge from MSRP.
    Regards, Yaeyah
  • snurplesnurple Member Posts: 130
yaeyah and my fellow Passaters--I just had a great idea for a Pyramid Scheme!!! [But beware everyone, like most pyramid schemes, it is subject to some misuse.]

You say, yaeyah, that the dealers in Northern California are not willing to sell 2001.5 Passats for below MSRP (booooo!!). BUT, what if I and others who are interested in buying a Passat in the near future were to send you $1 for every day that you WAIT to purchase your car. That way, you'd make a few bucks AND demand would decrease, driving DOWN prices across the country! Maybe I will wind up sending you $20 (or maybe $38, who knows)--BUT, if the net effect is a savings of hundreds (or even thousands) for me, than it is certainly worth it. And, if 20 people were to send you one dollar per day, you could accumulate enough for an optional cd-changer in just a few short weeks!!!

Now, how to make this work?...I suspect that all kinds of people will come out of the woodwork and claim that they have "already waited for two weeks to buy one, so could I please send them 15 bucks..." ! You can see how this could quickly degenerate into GREED--But please, people, let's not become like the dealers!!! To business:

    1) We will need to divide the country into about 20 zones.
    2) We will need to determine who will send the dollars to whom--but women and children should be first (wait, scratch that, that's only when there's limited room in the lifeboats!).
    3) Those in states where Passats are already at dealerships are in a position to benefit the most--so we will need to institute a complicated "holdback" system, whereby those who receive in excess of $500 will need to send monies back to the Passat Pool (or PP)--this pool will be overseen and administered by me ;)
    4) Those intending to buy a Passat will need to register by this Friday--otherwise you will be placed on a waiting list and promised the next available slot. Higher slots will be available at a "slot suggested retail price," or SSRP ;)
    5) If dealers in one area of the country refuse to lower their prices, than those who have received monies will allocate 20% of their receipts to hire homeless people and Daewoo owners to picket outside said dealerships and kick up a fuss.
    6) Everyone who is able to buy a Passat at a reasonable price within a few weeks will be required to give free rides to those who are still waiting--in the following manner: Those who paid Invoice--20 free rides, $250 over invoice--15 rides, $500 over invoice--10 rides, etc.

This new Passat program, (which has received some support from the German division of VW--they think American dealers are "way too greedy"), may appear to be complicated--but it really isn't! (But all sugestions are welcome...)

We can do this!! Let's work together for a new America--where people can buy cars at reasonable prices and have fun and smile more....

Has anyone had any experience with any of the New Or leans WV dealers? Specifically, I'm interested in purchasing a 2001 Pas sat and I'm in looking at the two dealers in the New Or leans area. I haven't heard anything positive about Crescent City and haven't heard anything at all about Walker. Does anyone have any positive experiences with either dealer or with any in the area (Baton Rouge, Gulf port, etc.) ? I would really appreciate any feedback.

vwguild's is wrong about good deals in Florida. I have gotten quite good prices. When I close a deal I will share the details.
  • vwguildvwguild Member Posts: 1,620
Just to clear the record...I know absolutely nothing about the Florida market, and I do not recall ever implying that I did. Geographically
I am about as far away from there as one can get.

I believe you asked if you could probably get the
same prices on the 2001.5 that some here had implied were possible...I simply said "probably
not"...If you, too, have found Dealers selling the
New 2001.5 for $500-$600 over Invoice, then I say
good for you...Enjoy the ride; it is a great car..

I just picked up a 2001.5 Silver Passat GLX Manual.

From what I found, and I am in the car biz here in Orlando, the GLS, particularly the base models and 5-speeds, are the ones that you're going to get the deep discounts on. Anything Silver or the GLXs are going to be tough.

I thought Chipper was asking if he could get competitive prices on the 2001.5's, and you said probably not. If you meant that the 2001.5 deals won't be as good as the 2001's, then I agree, especially since it seems that there is a mfr. allowance on the 2001's. But there are good prices to be found on the 2001.5's. Posting messages is not an easy way to communicate clearly!
  • fiftyfivefiftyfive Member Posts: 11
Here's a more straightforward question, I hope - what dealer options are useful to get when you buy the car - CD changer, darker tinting, extended warranty? Any estimate on good prices for these items?
  • chippervwchippervw Member Posts: 24
    Thanks for the info.
PLEASE let me know what kind of deal you work out and where you got your Passat! Someone posted info about a dealership in W. Palm Beach. Where are you shopping now? Also, Jacksonville has O'Steen, but I don't know how flexible with price they are. They still have several 2001s left.
    Good luck!

I've been shopping for a 4wd/awd car for a while. Finally I decided to buy Passat GLX 4Motion. The local dealer quota me $29,178. Is this a reasonable price? Remember a previous post said some dealer sold it for $1750 off INVOICE. Is that true? Do you guys think I can cut down that price for several hundreds bucks?

    Thanks!!!

I see eveyone talking about 2001.5 passats at MSRP. I just bought a silver 2001.5 passat at Pulliamwray VW in Columbia for a great price. I bought my new Beetle from them in 98 and they were easy to work with them as well. I have not been to other dealers, but the experience I have had in columbia has been a good one.

Congratulations! How much below MSRP were you able to get it for?
  • cbus_19cbus_19 Member Posts: 6
I've talked to all the dealers in the area and they've all been fine - no hugely negative experiences. Some better than others. I haven't purchased yet because I'm still deciding between Passat and another vehicle.

MAG is a very nice car buying experience - low pressure and very competent sales people. I would highly recommend that you speak to Chad Simpkins. If you saw JaneyLee's previous post she got an excellent deal on a GLX at MAG. My impression has always been that MAG has to gouge to make up for all that overhead but obviously Janey's deal isn't consistent with that belief.

No problems with Byers at all but it's the furthest from me so I haven't had much interaction with them.

The guy at Hatfield refused to give me a quote over the phone because they wanted me on the lot "to prove I was serious" whatever that means. Later in the call he decided that it was okay to give me a quote... but he quoted the MSRP less my down payment. Nice.

An alternative I'd recommend: Bill Marine VW in Springfield. I was looking for a particular color/feature configuration and I stumbled across them when I was browsing inventories on vw.com. The sales manager there has been excellent about doing business via email and over the phone. No nonesense. If we make a deal they'll deliver the car to me. You might want to give them a shot. Mike Cornish is the sales manager: bill.marine@prodigy.net or 937 325 7091.

    Good luck.

I just bought a Silverstone Grey 2001.5 GLS with 5 sp manual, leather and luxury package for 4% above invoice ($23,934 including the destination charge). I sent email messages to eight area dealers telling them what I was willing to pay, and two took me up on my offer. I chose the closest one. I am not good at bargaining in person and this was a really easy way of getting what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.

I dealt with Art Smith at Wyoming Valley Motors (near Wilkes Barre, PA).

Despite the dire predictions of no discounting everyone was giving me in my store, and like the people on this board are discovering, many dealerships are discounting these vehicles, including my own sometimes(happily for me!).
However, the VW advertising blitz is scheduled to start mid-month, so the situation may change rapidly if interest skyrockets. If it does change, just remember to be patient, and you will continue to be satisfied with your VW.
Any news from owners out there on their satisfaction with the car itself? Any quirks or problems?

Although we have broad variety of everything else in this great city of ours..we're limited to only four VW dealerships (Two being owned by the same nameplate...Jim Ellis). So, in essence, only three.

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing a Passat at either of the Ellis (Marietta /Chamblee) or Heritage/Dwight Harrison?

I'm curious if they worked with you on pricing or if they stuck to their guns.

Already visited Ellis-Chamblee and the salesman was very low key - very nice but we never negotiated $$$... and that's when most dealers' Tasmanian Devil comes out.

    Thanks in advance...

Negotiated slightly less than 4% over invoice for a 2001.5 GLX with tip and indash CD yesterday. Wanted to purchase before advertising started. This was a battle...this represents roughly 1100 over invoice. Hats off to those of you getting $500 over invoice...much better negotiators than I!

How exactly do I tell the '00 from the 00.5?

I'm about to take the plunge on a GLS, and I know that the "old" models can be had at a better price (if available). However, I may be willing to pay for the newer model, but unless they're side-by-side on the lot, how can I be sure which model I'm negotiating for? A code on the sticker? A definite difference in the console?

Also, what's the story on a big ad campaign starting this week? Here in Tucson, the one dealer hasn't even been advertising new WV's at all recently, only used cars. Doesn't speak well for my ability to drive a hard bargain, does it?

The new 2001.5 Passats are different at first glance...Headlight assembly, touches of chrome,
new frontend configuration, and if you miss those
things...the new VIN starts out WVWP...Good Luck!

I just purchased a Passat 2001.5 with 4Motion had to really work on getting a deal below MSRP. They said Supply and Demand. The demand is on so they really do not want to deal unless you push. I got $500 below MSRP.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,569
It is pretty obvoius that the nose is different, but you can tell by the window sticker. The new Passet is called just that- the 2001 new Passat. If it doesn't say new, it must be old. Also cheaper.

I can confirm that good prices are available on the 2001.5's in South Florida. Depending on how you look at it, I got a price on a new GLX automatic in Silverstone Gray at invoice, or invoice plus $500, or something in between!

The contract says the price on the car was invoice plus $546 ($28,400), but they completely waived their dealer prep fee which is pre-printed on the contract at $499. If you assume that I would have talked them down to $200 on the dealer fee, then I paid invoice plus $346 on the car. I was very pleased, to say the least, although it took some work.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should add that I also paid $385 for the 6CD changer and $129 for tinting. I hope those are good prices - I think they are.

If anyone is interested in my "secret" strategy, I'll be glad to share, although I may want to wait till I take delivery next week so I don't jinx anything! The car is already on the way to the dealer and I have a VIN on the contract. Still, I'd hate to see a "mix-up" where they sell the car to someone else who offers more than they should.

This was not a fluke - one other dealer offered me invoice plus 3% (with a $200 dealer fee) and another offered invoice plus $500 (with no dealer fee at first, then when I double-checked they said they forgot and needed to charge $200).

The dealer would not budge on the Masterguard extended warranty pricing - said it was illegal in Florida, so I didn't make a decision on the extended warranty yet.
  • snurplesnurple Member Posts: 130
Sounds like you got a sweet ride. You're an inspiration to us all!

As far as I know, a "dealer's prep fee" of $499 is about $499 too high. In a perfect world, the negotiated price should include all dealer expenses--the negotiated price SHOULD be "the out-the-door, end-of-story, zzziipppp price." Instead, dealers seem to want to type things onto the contract and pretend like they're standard...

What else have people seen? I've heard of the port prep fee and the floor plan fee--for a total of about $125 extra...
