I had a very hard time deciding between the Honda Accord Coupe and the Passat
but I just called the dealer and made my final decision to buy the Passat
Question: Does the Passat really take premium gas only?
Also, I know this topic has been thrown around many times,
but is it worth my money to buy the Bumper to Bumper Masterguard Extended warranty?
Ed
I was told that the Passat, since 1998, has been bulit on the Audi A4 platform
so, to predict the reliability of a Passat, isn't it a better idea to look at the
track record of an Audi A4? How is that track record, by the way?
Ed
Mind to tell?
Yes, I am in So Cal
but this is the last 2001 passat with these amenities for this price, trust me, I called about seven dealerships. There are very few left, most of them are demo cars with about 5,000 miles on it.
ed
So I would say the price for the car you are considering could be lower.
More importantly, though,I an THOROUGHLY enjoying my car.It is the best car I've ever owned. In other words, don't get too bogged down with price.Make tour best deal,of course, but you will end up with a fantastic car.
your lease expiring in the Fall you will be dealing with two unknowns...
2002 pricing, which is unavailable at this time, but, although I am sure
there will be increases, they should be slight...The other is market conditions
and availability. At this time 4MO wagons in either GLS or GLX configurations
are very scarce. Wagons are generally always produced in smaller numbers
than Sedans; so you will have to keep that in mind.
Another factor that might warrant some consideration, depending upon
your preferences, is this Winter's Introduction of the Passat Plus...W8
engine...4.0L, 280HP, 4MO Std., and possible Six Speed Manual Trans.
This car will, no doubt, will be available in both Sedan & Wagon. www.vwvortex.com
will have updated information on this release as the year progresses.
To your question regarding price differences...Using todays #s, there is a
difference of $1071 between the GLS & GLX all options included for the GLS.
The difference between the two is that the GLX will give you bilateral Power
Front Seating with 3 person/position Memory which can be remote controlled,
Climatronic Heating and AC, 16" Wheels & Tires.
www.vw.com will let you configure your new Passat & Price it as well as locate
several Dealers in your area of Colorado. And speaking of Colorado...
Although the name no longer applies, The new VW/Porsche SUV will be
available for 2002 as well...Have fun shopping...
Is a Silver with Grey GLX manual really that scarce right now? Thought I heard some comments that people had a tough time finding them....
Thanks!
Bill
I've gotten about 25 requests in the past 72 hours for Silver GLX's. I guess no one has any.
Jason
makes it tough for both Sedans & Wagons...
Someone is on academic probation (Cousin I got the car for...with a 1.8 IIRC) WHen she gets a 2.5 she gets the car back.
So, I got a 3K mile 2001.5 SIlver/Grey GLX Manual.....
wondering what I can get out of it but I doubt I want to know... didnt see any auction results yet for 2001.5s..
Bill
Cheers!

IF the car is TOTALLY fixed to PERFECTION by a paintless (You know.. the "dent doctor/wizard/magician" people) dent removal process than the car ought to be OK.
If it's been repainted... $2K wack right there.
Because that car is going to be worth that much less as a trade-in a few years down the road.
In fact, if you can get that kind of a discount on a car with paintwork like that, and the money factors are reasonable... I'd go ahead and lease it since the residual will be the same as a never-damaged car but the car will have had paintworkand be worth less. It's a safe way of hedging your bets.
Bill
deal...particularly from a Bay Area Dealer...No Mark-up?
It is still early...I would get back there quick!!!
been any inventory anywhere, and my dealer said there was a shipload of VW's arriving in
Boston the first week in May. Now he tells me the ship came in, and there wasn't a stick
shift GLX wagon on the boat. VW has customers lined up an waiting and then they don't provide them with a full range of choices. I don't get it.
What I would recommend, is that you ask them for a VIN on the car you ordered. If they can't provide it, that means either the car hasn't been built yet, or they just took you out of the market to hurt their competitors. Check around other dealers in your area to test the assertion that none are out there. I just got an allocation of wagons, and there was a GLX 5-speed on it, so they are out there. Hopefully, there's one in your area too.
Jason
Originally, I had a deal with a local dealer for $28,500 but he didn't have this color scheme in stock and couldn't or wouldn't get the car for me. He told me that there were two Reflex Silver with gray leather GLX's without 4 motion left in my state and none in port. So, I went to a dealer about 10 miles from home - not the one I'll be servicing with. This dealer was willing and able to get the car for me.
Once I felt the car was rare I got caught up in my emotions and made the mistake by NOT agreeing to a price before looking at color and availabilty. Kimmers71 suggested this in a previous post. I should have listened. Please keep this in mind before you negotiate.
I know it only cost $200-$400 more than I wanted to spend, but the male ego is fragile and paying more when I could have paid less is ego deflating. Especially, since I know this dealer was far more eager to negotiate when I had a deal with another dealer.
Regardless, this is going to be a fun car to drive and I am looking forward to driving it.
said he had a GLS 6 cyl stickshift arriving in 8 weeks. I said I'd hold out for a GLX. Do they
use Black Forest elves to make these things or what?
The line "I can locate it for you" ususally works, but when it is a popular color/rare combination, the dealer is under no obligation to give the unit up for swap.
I have done this several times already, and it works.
Good Luck!
today, they told me the sticker price in the 2001.5
GLS 1.8T's window is the sell price, no haggle in
this model.

anyone lives in Detroit area who had purchased this
car please give me your price. thank you.
1) Leather Package
2) Luxury Package
3) Monsoon
4) Homelink
5) Tiptronic
Sticker price is $26880(destination fee already included). I got it for $24773.81.
I shopped around(including Bill Cook)but Suburban gave me the best deal. I am sure they will work with you if you haggle hard enough. However, don't ever go to Fox VW in Rochester. They are a bunch of morons. I was so pissed with the way they treated me that I immediately went to VWoA HQ to file an official complaint. Can you believe that one of their salesman called me an "animal" when things didn't work out? Please let your friends and your friends' friends know, don't ever go to Fox.
Sam
your post, i made got a price from them much better than BILL COOK(what the heck that salesman
thinking?), but Suburban didnt have my colors, so
they tried to make a deal with other dealer.
your price is better than mine, guess i was not
haggle hard enough:(
thank you again, i will post the outcome later,
hopefully not to long.
Shopping around will save you some bucks.
Personally I think it looks great in Silver!
Bill
i like black the most, indigo blue is good too,
i prefer dark color because my previous cars are
all bright colors.
Try the guys in St Charles, Give Auffenberg in Belleville a try and I have heard very good things about Mid-America motors in Hazel wood.
A few people from St Louts have posted that cheap deals on Passats are tough there. Even so, To me it looks like a pretty strong deal on a Passats seems to be roughly $500 or so over invoice so you're $700 apart is my guess. Certainly you can try working that down, even so, I would buy the car that I wanted for a $700 difference. There's a different supply vs demand on Passats than Honda. Also, no sedan on the market anywhere near it price wise has the resale value of a Passat.
If it helps: Average nationwide inventory supply of Passats is 20 days, average discount is about $700.
Bill
Cuadan
Car has, from what you're telling me, an MSRP of $25,300 or so... So $25,800 is WAY too high...
Are there options you didnt mention? Even so, Try calling Reeves in Tampa. Tell them you live in Sarasota, are ready to buy if you get the right price. $500-800 over invoice ought to do it is what I think. If AND ONLY IF you were treated well by your local dealer see if they'll match the out of town offer, if not, buy it out of town. You're more likely to get a cheap price from Tampa or Ft Myers as you're out of there area and they know they have to be agressive to get your deal.
I'm a partner in a VW store...(Not in Orlando tho.. and Not Reeves
I know that the guys in Tampa have either $125 or $150 in advertising, plus the usual wholesale reserve and port prep junk... Even so thats barely $200...
Hope this helps,
Bill
Lux. Pkg., Monsoon, and HomeLink, and Tip has an MSRP of $25,380...
Invoice is $23,301...As you can see, $25,800 is $420 over MSRP...an odd
number for sure...
A year ago, a sophisticated buyer would have been quite comfortable
paying $24,301, but tonight $23, 801 will take this car home anywhere...
Of course, these numbers Do Not Include Any Regional Advertising Fees.
I have to believe that *brentwood* knows those fees; so you are looking at
$23,951 plus Appropriate Tax, Title & State fees, and a Doc. fee of $50 or
so...
And, that invoice number is all inclusive Destination, Port Prep, & FloorPlan
Interest Reserve are included...
Good Luck!
