and demand. I do not have pricing yet only colors,
but don't look for any smokin' deals if this new look is well received. Basic supply/demand will
be the rule. Remember, the Passat is extremely
popular in Europe as well, and if they love this
new car even more, then inventories here will be
small, and then your best deal will probably be
MSRP with no Dealer Mark-up.
no need to bore these fine folks with personal
business...meanwhile, go to my site so that you
can see what you can do...tomorrow I will show
you how...PS
Is this an honest mistake or was the dealer trying to rip me off on this? According to the lease terms the car had a $15000 resisual after 36 months. Does anybody have anything to compare this to? Needless to say, I did not buy the car but I wasted a whole day with this.
Do i attempt a dealer locate in two months (early Jan) for the car i want?
Or...
Do i place an order in two months for a 2002 as i want it?
(i have seen no info saying that 2002 is anything OTHER than a face lift...no new motor/tranny etc.)
Zup
roof unchanged...280HP W8 engine on board by late
spring with 4MO standard...
As to current status, for the West Coast the last
vessel arrived from Emden with 1900 VW/Audi units
on board last till late Jan. 2001. I do not know
what has come into Delaware.
You might want to go to VW.COM and go to the Dealer Locate section and see what comes up within a comfortable radius for you...PS
($28810)for auto with tiptronic. This pretty close to Edmunds TMV. I paid $100 for 4 mud guards (installed), $350 for 6 CD changer from the VW dealers parts dept and installed myself.
I've owned the car 2 weeks and it is AWESOME.
I shopped around to 3 different dealers, all were within $100 and not one had A GLX silver /black on the lot. My dealer had one a pre order with an ETA 6weeks....came in 3weeks early.
seats, and another for your Monsoon Sound & CD.
If you would like them; email me your fax number.
here's the details
gls v6
auto
cd
luxury package
monsoon package
ok here's the price..
$25,721 (including destination, but NOT tax and license)
$200 over invoice they say..
fair or crazy????
Destination-$525, Port Prep-$117, and $350 for
the CD. Hope this helps...
they say that it's not "used" since it's never been registered.. but still.
Several key things for the Domestic model are:
**Base engine will be the same 1.8T engine, but with modifications that will bump output from 150 to 170hp.
**An 8-cylinder model will be available late in the year with all the bells and whistles--for 35K +.
**Structural rigidity has been slightlt improved (translation: slightly better handling and maybe a few less squeaks and rattles).
**There MAY be some new options available--perhaps High Intensity headlights, maybe rear side airbags, etc. These are rumors, but the actual specs should be available in a month or two.
**Since VW intends to break all sales records with this new version of Passat, there will be no shortage of availability (although the new models may not arrive on the exact date projected--sometimes VW of America experiences a slight delay).
**This final point means that, contrary to what VWGUILD suggests (remember, he is a VW dealer!), the new Passats will not NEED to be sold at sky high prices that allow dealers to pocket an even higher margin. But, don't think that will stop them from trying
correctly as a *Demo* then they can provide you
with a two part addition to your Protection Plus
Warranty...This extended Warranty costs $180...
they will probably step for that...deals with most
of the 2yr/24K stuff...I am not sure of all of the
EXACT details; we don't have *demo* cars, and the
2nd part is strictly a paper provision extending
the 10/100k to provide you with that in it's
entirety. This Warranty info is available thru
the Service Dept. if the Sales people are unfamiliar.
I have serious doubts that a senior employee at
the Dealership would abuse a *Demo*. Typically it
is a *perk* for Management and not given to a 17
y/o detailer, and I am sure that they would allow you to take the car for an independent "check out" if you feel unfomfortable.
Good point though about depreciation...If you plan to dump this car in a year or two or three;
you probably do not want to take this route. If,
on the other hand you plan on keeping the car for 5 or 6 years depreciation is rather a moot point.
If this car is a 2000, hard to believe, but none the less, it does, indeed, present an entirely
different set of issues. The numbers that I gave you earlier were for a 2001, which we have had for months. The 5K is the shut off for VW Credit; but let me know about that. There is incentive $$ that was paid to Dealers for 2000 product.
no charge...
The *market* sets prices, not Dealers or stores, the only exception to that principle, that
I am aware of, would be gasoline prices, and utility prices...
Leather?
Is this the best I'm gonna get?
Have you been treated well? That's important too...
In addition to the above comments on this subject, I would be comparing the 2000 w/6K miles to:
the 2001 version (with standard full side-curtain airbags),
or to the 2001.5 (with a new look that will factor into the resale value).
Take a look at other nearby dealers, and do a quick negotiation on a 2001. I think that the difference between the first dealer's initial price for the 2000 and the prices you'll find for actual NEW vehicles at other dealers is closer than you might think. At that point the first dealer will drop their price and you will have a better choice: the new car at X$ and the USED car at Y$.
and do you all feel it's something worth getting if i am to keep the passat for life??
the 2/24k warranty seems shorter than the 3/36k or 4/48k that others have out there.
Plus* then, shame on him...The following comes with the car:
1. 2yr/24K B to B
2. 2yr/24K Free Scheduled Maintenance...Both 1.8T
and 30 Valve 6 @ 5K,10K,15K,20K.
3. 2yr. 24/7/365 Roadside Assistance to the
nearest VW Dealer.
4. 2yr/24K Trip Interruption Protection, ie. If u
are over 100 miles from home;if something goes
wrong; you will be transported to the nearest
VW Dealer...if they cannot get you back on the
road the same day; you will be reimbursed for
up to $100 a day for meals, plus up to $100 a
day for lodging, plus up to $100 a day for
alternative transportation up to $500 a day
total. Some common sense applies here
obviously...the meter doesn't start until the
Dealership is open...
5. 12yr/Unlimited Mileage on outer body rust thru
and Corrosion.
6. 10yr/100K Powertrain..If it a lubricated part
that moves the car; it is covered.
This Warranty package was first introduced in 1995/1996 and certainly a lot has happened in the
interim...and there certainly is a great deal of
thought being given to expanding the B to B, but
nothing has been decided as of right now.
VWs Masterguard Plan is certainly something that
you might want to look into. You can basically take the B to B out as far as you would like, and
it is honored at any VW Dealer in the US or Canada.
have u dealt with folks who belong to the aaa or costco program?? isn't there a no negotiation policy since it's pre-arranged?
with Costco and should be fixed...
Additionally I bought the car, a GLS w/leather sunroof, and tiptronic for almost $2000 below invoice as it was a 2000 model. If that helps anyone.
Thanks again.
but then again, there are shortages on the 2000 models now and the 2001 passats are limited as well since vw is rolling out their 2001.5 version in feb.
And, in post #187, you mention that $200 over invoice is "a steal." Without knowing if you are referring to a specific auto or not (because of the brevity of your post), are you implying that $200 over invoice is "a steal" even for a demo with substantial mileage? If so, I would have to disagree--even if an additional warranty (to cover the extra 5 or 6K) is tossed in for free, the car is still a used vehicle and cannot be properly evaluated according to new car pricing standards.
And, mac, the fact that there is a shortage of 2000s because they are being replaced by new 2001 and upcoming 2001.5 models does not make the 2000s more valuable. To the contrary, because they are older, they are worth less. A 2000 will be worth less than a 2001 at resale in 1 year, in 2 years, in 5 years, in 10 years. A 2000 demo should be substantially cheaper than a good price on a 2001 (which would be less than a $1000 over invoice).
Can you wait until next year and negotiate a good deal on a 2001.5? If you do, we can work together on it!
As to supply and demand of Passats: Of course there is not an unlimited supply of Passats. But, if VW wants to continue to resurrect their brand by selling an increasing number of Passats next year (which IS their plan), you can bet that there will be enough to go around. Otherwise, people will take their business elsewhere. Which is also what people will do if VW dealers try to sell them at MSRP. You are right, the market will dictate the price.
i'll be sure to report my watnots after my meeting with them.
wheel; you've already answered your own question...you did great...ENJOY!!!
1: They will be produced in six new (or re-vamped) colors such as less maroon (redder) reds, etc.
2: The 4 cyl will generate 170 hp's.
3: They will be produced in sufficient numbers to make the dealers more prone to give good deals.
Are any of the rumors true?
Is this a good price?
or to KBB.COM
After you have done that...take it to your local
VW Dealer and have them take a look...the Service
Dept. will charge you a nominal fee for this; so
only do this if you are REALLY interested in the
car...finally at CARFAX.COM found here under the
used section you can find out about the history
of the car for about $20. By the way the *Retail*
Price* from Kelley is where you start...subtract
$3000 from what they say and negotiate up from there...Good Luck...
Check your local Barnes and Noble, the one on South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando (@ the beeline) had a few copies left..
Bill
and.. am going for the y2k1gls model with v6. went to a few dealers, it seems none have just the bare bones with auto. most are with the luxury and monsoon package, which i don't mind getting, but don't necessarily need. shall i special order?? if so, will it cost me less? more?
thoughts guys??
I assume you mean "locating" rather than special ordering, since production on the 2001's has ceased to make way for the 2001.5's. Have you thought of using carsdirect.com (or other internet options) to search for you? They might be able to cover more ground more quickly than you can--and for a good price. Try this avenue before "settling", and paying more for options you have no use for.
with Grey Leather...no Sunroof, no Alloys. They
are out there you just need contact the Dealers
in your area and inquire. VW.COM has a dealer
locator...just put in your zip code and the # of
miles you will travel; it will send back all
data. And beginning on 11/20 VW.COM will roll out
an all new online buying service with all participating edealers...
btw, lookin for an indiglo or blue anthracite.
