    I am thinking about a lease on a 2006 Passat 2.0T with package #2.

The sticker is $28,500. The dealer is quoting $335 with $2000 down-- that includes all taxes and fees.

I've never done a lease before, does that sound good?

I was all set on a Acura TL, and stopped my the VW dealer on the way to put money on the TL when I saw the new Passat 3.6. WOW, they let me drive it home to show my Wife and I have to say, I loved it. It was fast and fun and had all the cool stuff inside. So much so that I think I want one, but I worried about past VW problems. The Acura TL is a no brainer of a car. But this dam VW really got my blood flowing. My Wife kinda likes the Acura, but the VW seems to have more of the things I need, like the AWD.
Anyone have a 3.6L Passat yet? The 4Motions are not out yet, but its just about the same as the one I drove today without the 4motion.
Tell me quick, I need to decide this weekend.

Last night, I just purchased 06 Passat Tiptronic Value Edition with Rear Airbag option for $19,999 + fees. They didn't have six speed manual, so I was stuck with automatic. Purchased from Stockton, CA. MSRP was close to $25K.

Anyway, I purchased my Passat Value Edition from Hammer Lane Volkswagen in Stockton, CA. You can find out more info of this dealer via www.vw.com.

Find out if they offer the drivers option which is a purchase, not a lease. You can finance the car for anywhere from 12-48 months with a baloon payment at the end. The payment will probably be only a few dollars more per month than a lease payment and that difference is often made up by lower insurance costs.

After the initial term you have the option to trade, refinance, or turn the car in. However, I would probably not try just turning it in unless you have really kept the miles down to less than 12,000 per year and the car is still in excellent shape.

The payment they quoted you sounds really good IF the $2000 is all you will pay out of pocket AND you are willing to lease. Just remember, the purchase price is always negotiable whether a purchase or a lease and I would haggle to get as low a payment as I can.

I personally don't like leasing. I did it one time on a pickup and I always felt like I was driving a rental. I never felt comfortable with the truck. I didn't want to let anyone borrow it because I always thought, "What if they have a wreck. It's not my truck." Sure I know that when you finance, the car is not really yours until the last dollar is paid. However, it has been a lot easier for me to relax and drive my other vehicles knowing they were "mine".

I just got a quote this week from a local (Great New Haven, CT) dealer. 06 Passat 2.0 Value Package, Auto Trans, w/ Rear Airbags. Offered price $22,400 (w/o tax, tag), out-of-door ~$24k. Will this be a good enough offer? I am looking for a purchase next week.

Got a good price on S40 (1k below invoice) and I almost came to sign the sales contract until a colleague suggested me to give a shot on 06 passat. Here is my comparison.

    Pre-conditions:
    a) i was looking for a car for day-to-day commute and for family.
    b) I'm not a fan of sport car
    c) the car should fit with my age range - 30s, not 20s or 40s
    d) I want basic configration, a car with mininum options, only required option is automatic trans
e)the car should have good value
d)we never owned or drove both of them before

    comparisons:

    Volvo S40 vs Passat 2.0T

    1) Final price : S40: 23.5K (invoice - 500) + tax + lis; 7 to 8% financing rate for 60 months
    2.0T: 23.8K (invoice - 300) + tax + lis; 4.9% for 60 months - this guy wins!

    2) Exterior design: give my vote to S40 but my wife likes 2.0T more - according to her, the square blue logo with a long line crossed over realy screwed the design. So 2.0T wins (... or my wife wins ...)

    3) Interior: S40 - Cloth; out-of-date green/dark screens; less functional components; plastic feel finish; unacceptable audio system
2.0T - Leatherette; contemporary and very detail design everywhere; well built; roomier; better sounds from audio system

    4) Performance: "T" realy makes difference, response and drive fast with 2.0T
Engine & road noise came from 2.0T is much less than S40; 2.0T has quieter and smoother ride

    5) Safety: Volvo has better historic reputation but not sure about it at present. My understanding is newer design means safer car, the world getting better because people are learning from past and making it better for future.

    6) Other matters: 2.0T is built in Germany while the other one Belgium
Volvo is a better brandname but it's owned by Ford anyway...
More negative news have been coming out from Ford ...

Conclusion: the new designed passat is worth to give a try, lots of detailed practical new features will catch you such as self-drain unbralle holder on the side of driver's door, electic park braking, hill-hold assistant and the best designed remote control, of which provide you unique way to turn on/off your car by inserting and pushing it like a button.
Volvo does have a good exterior design but it appears they didn't pay too much attention on interior, all the componments still keep the same as my old 2001 Chevellet...

I plan to buy a 2006 passat soon. Please give me some ideas.

2006 Passat 2.0T, automatic, 4dr sedan, NON value edition, rear airbags, no other options. The MSRP price is $25,940, Invoice price is 24,430 (23,983+Ad., floor, port fee).

What's the reasonable target price I should set for this car? Please share your buying experiences. Thank you so much!

Hi, am dealing w/Jennings VW in Glenview (near Chicago) and they are willing to sell me a VW2006Passat 2.0T non-value Ed. with Package 1 and rubber mats for $25,370. Who did you buy from, and is what I am paying a good deal? Did you negotiate down the ad fees and interest? Thanks.

I'm considering to lease a 06 Passat Value Edition in Boston area. I've negotiated a lease deal of $275/month including taxes for a 39 Months/39K Miles lease with absolutely ZERO out of pocket. All I've to pay is 38 payments of $275.
Is it a good deal? Please post if you have negotiated a better deal in the Boston area for this car.
    Thanks for help.

Passat 2.0T (Non value edition) with splash guards, alloy wheels.

I pre-paid the lease with the following items:
    Paid: $4,139 out of pocket.
    Trade In: 2000 Passat 70K miles ($8,000)

Lease is for 39 Months, 12K miles per year.

Any thoughts if that is a good deal that I just got myself into.....

Just got a call from VW that as a current customer (Passat lease expiring next month) we can get 2 separate $500 bonuses towards a new VW if bought by Jan 3rd - has anybody else received this offer? Any idea if it will be offered after Jan 3rd?

I'm in the same boat. I posted this earlier on the TL board.

I've been reading the postings on this site for months to make sure that the TL was the right car for me. I've test driven nearly every other car in the same class including the new Lexus IS and the TL is always on top. So I had decided to get the TL once I get my tax return and hopefully by then the Ipod integration would have been out and tested. Well the other day I went to VW dealership to look for a Tourag with my girlfriend and decided to take a second look at the Passat. I wasn't to impressed with the new 2006 model when it came out a few months ago and never really even bothered to test drive it. But this day they had a fully loaded version with V6 and sport package #2, which is their best sport version of the Passat. So I decided to take it out. I was ready to be disappointed because the value edition of the Passat looked and felt cheap and I thought it would be the same with this car. But man I was wrong. Besides NAV (they do offer it, but it is not nearly as good as the TL NAV) it had everything I wanted in a new car. Great fit and finish, very nice leather and even more power than the TL. The test drive went well and I wanted to see the TL right away to make a comparison. Five minutes later I am at the Acura dealer looking that the TL. The Passat has the edge on fit and finish, quality of materials and a much better stereo (i listed to both cars stereo with my own cd's for about 30 minutes each). I was 100% sold on the TL from my own experiences with the car and the info on this board, but after the Passat test drive I am really don't know which one to get. I think the biggest factor in not getting the Passat is that EVERYONE that I know that has bought a VW has had a lot of problems with the car and trying to get it fixed. Like the looks of the TL but the quality of the Passat feels better. Any suggestions?
  • mvc_jonesmvc_jones Member Posts: 88
I looked at both (only 2.0T Passat was out at the time) and went with the TL.

I had a 2003 Passat and thought both interior and exterior of the 2006 was a step backwards, with uninspired exterior and cheapened interior. Really did not like the keyless ignition on the Passat, felt cheap to me. Also, I was very concerned about general VW reliability, especially with a new design, coupled with a local VW dealer who is friendly and courteous but did not seem terribly skilled in servicing the cars or keeping records (i.e. their service tag had my 2003 as a V-6, when it was 1.8T I-4, and couldn't clearly state if these used the proper VW spec oil in the proper amount, with every receipt being different, talk about a cluster-f if a warranty claim is necessary.)

I cannot talk about the new Passat V-6 edition, but the reliability and service issues would scare me even more with a $35k +/- version of the VW vs. the $25k +/- edition.

    Good luck in your choice.

The invoice price is not what the dealer pays (as many of you know). Passat 2.X modxels typically have 460.00-480.00 of $$'s that they can work with, however they typically do not want to.
  • countdbccountdbc Member Posts: 14
I just got one same to what you want with OUT-THE-DOOR price as $22,700 at DC area. I think maybe this can be helpful. But usually the dealer would favor a price around 23,200~23,800. I just bought it at 6:00PM, Dec 31, 2005:) as the last deal at that dealership. Let me know if I can help more.
  • gogogogogogo Member Posts: 4
Thank you, countdbc. For the NON value edition 2006 passat 2.0T, what's your MSRP price and Invoice price? How did you negotiate the price? Internet, phone, on-site, or
all? Please share some of your experience. Thank you so much. (one dealer in bay area didn't even want to lower the price under the invoice price! He said they can only find a
point between the MSRP price and invoice price.)
    Thank you!
  • countdbccountdbc Member Posts: 14
    MSRP: $25,594
Invoice: $24,100(with delivery, Auto trans, rear airbag) or 23,058(basic invoice).
I think the final price depends on several factors:
    1. area: you are in CA right? I'm in DC. Different area with different price.
    2. Dealership: try to find the largest dealership in your area. Large dealerships should probably provide the lower price.
    3. Your own idea. Set up a high price limit for yourself and go to see the dealer. Let the dealer know when your requirement is met, then you definitely will drive a car away from them. Then they will have interests to give some profit.
    4. Contact all your dealers in your local area and let them know you will buy the car in next 3 days. Select the lowest price they provide and go to a large dealer. Tell them to lower the price and then you buy the car. They will think about that.

I hope my information can help. Also I hope you can understand my English. I am not American, I am Chinese.

    Good luck!
  • gogogogogogo Member Posts: 4
Hi, thank you so much for sharing the information. I didn't find any purchase price made in california. Is that possible that one state's dealers want to maintain a higher price even people can get lower price in other states? May I ask you: what's the first quoted price the dealer give you? How did you convince the dealer to give you a price lower than invoice price? I am a chinese too so I can understand you very well. :)
  • countdbccountdbc Member Posts: 14
Hi, I think you just need to see the dealers with your final price and tell them if the price is reached, then you can drive the car away right now. Then you will find the lowest price they can provide. Look through all the dealers and try to find the best deal then. The final price depends on the dealer not on the negotiation technique, I think.

Wow $22,700 for a 2006 passat? That's a really good deal. I'm shopping for one and so far the quote that the guy gave me for the out-the-door price was $26,603 for the standard model. This is going to be first car that I'm gonna buy so if you could give me some tips and advice on how to negotiate for price I would greatly appreciate it.

    George.
  • countdbccountdbc Member Posts: 14
I just contacted the dealers around me and first found an online out-the-door price as low as $23,400. Then I went to see the dealers with this price and asked if they could beat it or not. Finally I just got the price $22,700 for 06, 2.0T with rear airbag. It's quite nice a car! My advice is to try to contact the big dealers. The big dealers probably could provide lower prices. Good luck for your purchase!

For some reason (Car and Driver?) people think the 3.6 Passat is 36 to 39K. The sticker price on mine was 33,315 loaded with premium luxury package and the works! The dealer here in Cary NC came off 2K on sticker and gave me FULL Kelly Blue Book for my trade-in 2002 Passat GLX. I was only looking at the 325 BMW or the C230 Benz--my lease payment was $100 less a month--with real leather interior, heated front seat, and airbags in the back seat. All etras in the other two cars. The TL is nice, but typical, slick Japanese without the German handling. I am thrilled with the new Passat!
  • carynccarync Member Posts: 14
Maintenance on the Volvo is a lot more--like $135 oil changes--but they did give me a carnation! I would think the Passat is a larger and safer vehicle, although I did love the Volvo seats. I'm now on my second Passat as of Thursday--it drives like a BMW for a lot less
  • carynccarync Member Posts: 14
I got a $500 discount in adition to the 2K off of a 3.6 I got last Thursday. I had owned a 2002 Passat GLX and they gave me the FULL Kelly blue book on the trade-in :)
  • carynccarync Member Posts: 14
I had a 2002 Pasat GLX--the most fun to drive car I have ever owned! The car was flawless until 69,000 miles--that's why I leased a new 3.6 Passat--it drives like BMW claims too--with a lot more power and a lot less$
  • carynccarync Member Posts: 14
Sounds like you did great--same deal here with $2800 down--zero out the door 15K/month for $434/month and they paid the first month's lease payment> I love my car--it has the zoom zoom going on but looks like a nice conservative ride LOL :)

I just negotiated the following lease for a 3.6L with Luxury#2 package and navigation. MSRP $37,915:
    12,000 miles per year
    39 month lease
    No money down
$570 per month including all fees and taxes(DC is 10% per month).
I shopped at three dealerships with the same lease terms and the deals ranged from $570 to $650.
  • carfan3carfan3 Member Posts: 27
I got a deal, here in Philly, PA, on a 3.6L, 2006 Passat (regular, not 4-MOTION). It includes:
    1 - Pack. #1 Lux
    2 - DVD Sat. Nav.
    3 - Dybaudio Sound System
    4 - Bi-Xenon Light
    5 - Rear Side Airbags
    6 - Splash Guards
    XM Radio (FREE)

He charged me all invoice pricing, and total came to $34382.00 (Same as AAA Pricing report). He added $500 dealer profit, so overall total (not including tax and tags) came to $34882.00.

What do u all think? Good price?

I will be buying extended warranty with this, and environmental treatment (to take care of paint and leather-seats) package (dealer will give me a deal on those two).
  • countdbccountdbc Member Posts: 14
so-called "dealer profit" should be cut off, I don't think dealer would like to show you the price with which they got the car from the factory. Pls carefully check the invoice price. There should be still some flexibility between the true invoice price and their "invoice price".
  • carfan3carfan3 Member Posts: 27
I see what you are saying. But where else can i check?? The invoice price of $34382 was calculated using AAA and Edmunds. Also, he read off the invoice prices from the manufacturer's book that he has. All the calculations he did in front of me. Let me know. Thanks.

I ordered a 3.6L wagon yesterday. Invoice pricing just came out. Mine(Pack 1 Lux plus audio)invoiced at $1,051 more than the sedan equipped the same way (32,977 vs. 31,926). This is about what people expected. I paid $1,000 over invoice. A competing dealer absolutely refused to budge off MSRP. The dealers think they are going to sell well. The dealer that sold me mine said I was the 8th one he had ordered for people. Nearly all of them were 6's.

Where are you? can you provide some detail about the dealer? like the phone # or website? Thanks a lot.
I am trying to buy the same Passat as you did, but could not find a good deal in Southwest FL.

    Thanks.

I am in VA/DC. The dealer's name is VW Springfield,VA. You can find their contact information online.
  • amitvisualamitvisual Member Posts: 26
When are you expecting to get your wagon? Did they have any on the lot or did you order it without driving it? Also, what part of the country are you in?
  • xhkuangxhkuang Member Posts: 3
I remember somebody got the same car with OTD about $22770, but I negotiated with several dealers, and found it was hard to lower the OTD down to $24500. the best out the door price is $24600 (In south west FL, Tax rate is 6%). Is that a good deal or not? If not bad, I am going to buy it soon.

    Please give some commends.
    Thanks

I drove a 2006 Passat 2.0T with luxury package #2. The ride was very smooth, but the car seems cheaply made in the cockpit. While the red and blue illuminated dashboard is novely intriguing, it seems very unrefined. I was dismayed to find out that the driver's seat with this pacakge is only partially power adjustable, while I believe the passenger front seat has no power adjustments.
  • bsloanebsloane Member Posts: 8
I have decided to go the whole 9 yards and buy the 3.6 w/ the #2 Luxury pack ($5,250)even though I don't need the 600 watt audio because I do want the Park sensors and better headlights. Total MSRP is $35,830 and Invoice is $32,950. I live in NY. What's a good price today and will it go down much in a month or two?

    Thanks,

    Burt
