The sticker is $28,500. The dealer is quoting $335 with $2000 down-- that includes all taxes and fees.
I've never done a lease before, does that sound good?
Anyone have a 3.6L Passat yet? The 4Motions are not out yet, but its just about the same as the one I drove today without the 4motion.
Tell me quick, I need to decide this weekend.
This price is including Taxes meaning to say out of door including everything.
please let me know
Anyway, I purchased my Passat Value Edition from Hammer Lane Volkswagen in Stockton, CA. You can find out more info of this dealer via www.vw.com.
After the initial term you have the option to trade, refinance, or turn the car in. However, I would probably not try just turning it in unless you have really kept the miles down to less than 12,000 per year and the car is still in excellent shape.
The payment they quoted you sounds really good IF the $2000 is all you will pay out of pocket AND you are willing to lease. Just remember, the purchase price is always negotiable whether a purchase or a lease and I would haggle to get as low a payment as I can.
I personally don't like leasing. I did it one time on a pickup and I always felt like I was driving a rental. I never felt comfortable with the truck. I didn't want to let anyone borrow it because I always thought, "What if they have a wreck. It's not my truck." Sure I know that when you finance, the car is not really yours until the last dollar is paid. However, it has been a lot easier for me to relax and drive my other vehicles knowing they were "mine".
Pre-conditions:
a) i was looking for a car for day-to-day commute and for family.
b) I'm not a fan of sport car
c) the car should fit with my age range - 30s, not 20s or 40s
d) I want basic configration, a car with mininum options, only required option is automatic trans
e)the car should have good value
d)we never owned or drove both of them before
comparisons:
Volvo S40 vs Passat 2.0T
1) Final price : S40: 23.5K (invoice - 500) + tax + lis; 7 to 8% financing rate for 60 months
2.0T: 23.8K (invoice - 300) + tax + lis; 4.9% for 60 months - this guy wins!
2) Exterior design: give my vote to S40 but my wife likes 2.0T more - according to her, the square blue logo with a long line crossed over realy screwed the design. So 2.0T wins (... or my wife wins ...)
3) Interior: S40 - Cloth; out-of-date green/dark screens; less functional components; plastic feel finish; unacceptable audio system
2.0T - Leatherette; contemporary and very detail design everywhere; well built; roomier; better sounds from audio system
4) Performance: "T" realy makes difference, response and drive fast with 2.0T
Engine & road noise came from 2.0T is much less than S40; 2.0T has quieter and smoother ride
5) Safety: Volvo has better historic reputation but not sure about it at present. My understanding is newer design means safer car, the world getting better because people are learning from past and making it better for future.
6) Other matters: 2.0T is built in Germany while the other one Belgium
Volvo is a better brandname but it's owned by Ford anyway...
More negative news have been coming out from Ford ...
Conclusion: the new designed passat is worth to give a try, lots of detailed practical new features will catch you such as self-drain unbralle holder on the side of driver's door, electic park braking, hill-hold assistant and the best designed remote control, of which provide you unique way to turn on/off your car by inserting and pushing it like a button.
Volvo does have a good exterior design but it appears they didn't pay too much attention on interior, all the componments still keep the same as my old 2001 Chevellet...
2006 Passat 2.0T, automatic, 4dr sedan, NON value edition, rear airbags, no other options. The MSRP price is $25,940, Invoice price is 24,430 (23,983+Ad., floor, port fee).
What's the reasonable target price I should set for this car? Please share your buying experiences. Thank you so much!
Is it a good deal? Please post if you have negotiated a better deal in the Boston area for this car.
Thanks for help.
Passat 2.0T (Non value edition) with splash guards, alloy wheels.
I pre-paid the lease with the following items:
Paid: $4,139 out of pocket.
Trade In: 2000 Passat 70K miles ($8,000)
Lease is for 39 Months, 12K miles per year.
Any thoughts if that is a good deal that I just got myself into.....
I've been reading the postings on this site for months to make sure that the TL was the right car for me. I've test driven nearly every other car in the same class including the new Lexus IS and the TL is always on top. So I had decided to get the TL once I get my tax return and hopefully by then the Ipod integration would have been out and tested. Well the other day I went to VW dealership to look for a Tourag with my girlfriend and decided to take a second look at the Passat. I wasn't to impressed with the new 2006 model when it came out a few months ago and never really even bothered to test drive it. But this day they had a fully loaded version with V6 and sport package #2, which is their best sport version of the Passat. So I decided to take it out. I was ready to be disappointed because the value edition of the Passat looked and felt cheap and I thought it would be the same with this car. But man I was wrong. Besides NAV (they do offer it, but it is not nearly as good as the TL NAV) it had everything I wanted in a new car. Great fit and finish, very nice leather and even more power than the TL. The test drive went well and I wanted to see the TL right away to make a comparison. Five minutes later I am at the Acura dealer looking that the TL. The Passat has the edge on fit and finish, quality of materials and a much better stereo (i listed to both cars stereo with my own cd's for about 30 minutes each). I was 100% sold on the TL from my own experiences with the car and the info on this board, but after the Passat test drive I am really don't know which one to get. I think the biggest factor in not getting the Passat is that EVERYONE that I know that has bought a VW has had a lot of problems with the car and trying to get it fixed. Like the looks of the TL but the quality of the Passat feels better. Any suggestions?
I had a 2003 Passat and thought both interior and exterior of the 2006 was a step backwards, with uninspired exterior and cheapened interior. Really did not like the keyless ignition on the Passat, felt cheap to me. Also, I was very concerned about general VW reliability, especially with a new design, coupled with a local VW dealer who is friendly and courteous but did not seem terribly skilled in servicing the cars or keeping records (i.e. their service tag had my 2003 as a V-6, when it was 1.8T I-4, and couldn't clearly state if these used the proper VW spec oil in the proper amount, with every receipt being different, talk about a cluster-f if a warranty claim is necessary.)
I cannot talk about the new Passat V-6 edition, but the reliability and service issues would scare me even more with a $35k +/- version of the VW vs. the $25k +/- edition.
Good luck in your choice.
all? Please share some of your experience. Thank you so much. (one dealer in bay area didn't even want to lower the price under the invoice price! He said they can only find a
point between the MSRP price and invoice price.)
Thank you!
Invoice: $24,100(with delivery, Auto trans, rear airbag) or 23,058(basic invoice).
I think the final price depends on several factors:
1. area: you are in CA right? I'm in DC. Different area with different price.
2. Dealership: try to find the largest dealership in your area. Large dealerships should probably provide the lower price.
3. Your own idea. Set up a high price limit for yourself and go to see the dealer. Let the dealer know when your requirement is met, then you definitely will drive a car away from them. Then they will have interests to give some profit.
4. Contact all your dealers in your local area and let them know you will buy the car in next 3 days. Select the lowest price they provide and go to a large dealer. Tell them to lower the price and then you buy the car. They will think about that.
I hope my information can help. Also I hope you can understand my English. I am not American, I am Chinese.
Good luck!
George.
