This one has like, Nooo miles .. we have a Ecab, XLT, actually this sounds like the twin for the last one, except for the miles and year.
I gotta think the dealer has like $15,5/$16 in it, a little this .. a little that, Certify it, service, pack, a partridge in a pear tree, etc. etc. It probably hit's the table at $17. It's hard to find, nice, low mileage vehicles, so I'm thinkin' it would take $18/$18,5 to buy it .. and that would be the EOW.
Seen a 1999 Elantra w/ automatic. Just the standard Elantra. Red color. some scuff marks on the car which is surprising given it's relative newness. Mileage 16,xxx. Dealear asking $5,995. What's a good price on this?
I passed the #'s you gave along to my neighbor this morning on the RX300. She called me back in about 5 minutes laughing her head off. She had brought the car home for a few days but they had never given her a price on it. So, this morning she called to ask. Are you ready for this.........it is a AWD......no KFC bones laying in it that I saw.....asking price $32,995. ('99 with 37k) If she doesn't buy it, do you want it?? LOL
Rick
PS-she offered $24,500. The salesman said "We'll be in touch"
I'm considering buying my leased '99 Saab 93 for $14,412. Its'a standard 4 door hatchback with 31K miles. There is some wear and tear which I'm sure will cost me big time if I turn it in. What is the vehicle really worth? What should I expect to pay for an extended warranty?
Looking for a private party retail value for a 1993 GMC Safari:
122k AWD/limited-slip not extended cab two-tone medium/light blue exterior light blue cloth interior ac/cruise/tilt automatic no accidents/no paintwork <10k on tires Boston, MA
I am in the market of purchasing a used 2001 Honda Accord EX Sedan V6, leather interior, white exterior, moonroof with sunshade, spoiler, cd, window shades on each window, fully loaded with 5300 miles. The sticker price is 21900, how much do you think it could go for as far as trying to make a deal. Haven't actually went in to talk with a dealer about the car, just curious of what you would settle for?
Uh Oh... Paintwork on an 01. This is not a good thing I am afraid.
I'll assume that it's Mineral Green, which is a good color.
It would normally be a $29-30K truck, but with previous bodywork, I'd hit it at $27,500 myself. It might do $28K, but past that and I think it's a gift. Unfortunately, as nice as the work may have been done, we can tell
Oooh... you keep coming SO close to getting a Volvo
2000 S70 SE ASR: $18-19K across the block, they got $1K over that "in" it and I'm sure they wanna make $1,500-2K on em. 21-22K oughta be all the cash retail.
2000 S70 GLT: Add $1K-1,500
1999 S70 ASR: $15-16K across the block, they got $16-17K "in" em.. so figure they'll ask $19,995-20,995 but you should be around $17,500-18K
1999 S70 GLT: No more than a $1K add for the LPT engine.
I am putting myself in the market for a new (to me) car and I have arrayed a few choices. First, I will either sell or be trading in my 1991 Jeep Wrang 4.0HO,61K mi,blk, grey softop, sans a/c. Any thoughts?
Second, please throw me some opinions about the cars in my "selection universe" listed bleow. I like luxury and reliability and want to stay around 20-22K (not incl trade) Assume a "certified" car from the dealer, good options and decent color.
1999 Volvo S80-T6 1999 Lex ES300 2000 Infiniti I30 2001 Accord EX-V6 2001 Passat GLX 2000 Saab 9-5 SE
I know this is a diverse list but each have benefits that balance off the others.
Are these cars realistic for my price range? Any coments on reliability, resale, comfort, performance?
Well, for what my opinion is worth, I think the Volvo is the real standout car in your list. The Lexus is nice, too, but I find a tad more on the bland side. The rest of those cars just don't come close to the first 2. Personally, you couldn't get me into an I30 or Accord. The performance just isn't there.
That being said, I think the Volvo might be a tad out of your pricerange. $20K is more in the S70 T5 range. But Bill and Terry would know better.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
can't find the ad (from the auto shopper), but 99 ASRs are in the mid-18s. non-roof cars with alloys are mid 17's. base cars are mid-16s.
Montclair had what looks like a GLT for high 18s.
FOund another that I really like: 1999 C70 (coupe), HPT with a 5-speed (yeah, I know, I know), loaded, only 11K on it. Not at a dealer, so not certified. Asking 26,900. Even TMV only pegs this at about 22-23K
Terry, went to look at the '00 Expy EB, hmmmm not so clean really, kids bikes did a number on the paint all the way around, interior-didn't even bother to clean it, it wasn't even picked up let alone cleaned. Guy claims he bought it new as a Mgr/Demo in 9/00, something about it didn't ride right, don't know if it was the goodyears, but the 99 4x4 XLT I drove road way better than this '00 EB 4x4, both w/ 5.4
Anyway, he claims his payoff is $27, I politely told him the truck wasn't very clean, and how much the clean ones go for quoting numerous resources, thanked him for his time and wished him luck, it was not the truck for me.
Wow - I just stumbled upon this board (I'm trying very hard to educate myself before trade-in and purchase of my new car...as a blone-haired woman you should honestly hear the lines some of those car dealers try on me...), so I hope, Bill that you can help!
I'm in Chicago and trading a 93 Lincoln Town Car - 4D Executive model with 140K miles. ACK, I know...but was a donation from the in-laws! It is in immaculate physical condition, NO dings, re-paints, etc, and a by-the book maintenance history. Any chance you could throw me a number that would help in the trade-in process?
To help the guys a little more, can you include the color (interior & exterior), any recent work or parts, and any special options (CD player, moonroof, etc)? These extra tidbits will make it easier for them to offer an accurate valuation.
bretfraz - thx for the guidance! ext color is "ice blue" with interior dark blue leather. it has the "towing" package, but no other fancy options (no CD, moonroof, etc) most recent work has been routine, i.e. brakes. no major repairs that I know of except norm maintenance. I'm sure I've left other facts out (enter the blonde issue...) but those are the biggies!
... is a 1999 LS 2-door 4x4 model. And it just rolled over 60k miles today. (gasp) It is black with a beige cloth interior. Automatic transmission, power windows/locks/mirrors, remote keyless entry, cruise control, power driver seat, overhead console with thermometer and compass. All of the above work fine.
It has two annoying but hopefully minor cosmetic problems. The rubber liner or gasket around the driver side window is broken and somewhat loose; I keep having to push it back down. Also, one of the rear tail lights is a bit loose, kind of scary. I have maintained the car well (though I obviously drive the snot out of it as you can tell). The original brakes have about 30% of their life left. There are a few small scratches and parking lot kisses, but nothing major. The interior has seen its share of french fries and donut sprinkles, but I do not smoke. I clean the truck up, inside and out, after every oil change.
I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and am considering trading this truck in on a 2002 2-door Blazer 4x4, or possibly an AWD Aztek (covering head to avoid being hit by various thrown objects). I may also very well just get new brakes, send it into the body shop to get the necessary repairs, bite the bullet and pay for everything, and drive it another six months.
This site and others suggest a trade-in price of about $9100 (for "good" not "excellent" condition). But maybe even this is a bit optimistic, unless the rear tail light and the window gasket behave themselves for the trade-in inspection. What do you experts say?
Thanks in advance! I've been away for a few months but I really appreciate all the great advice to be found here.
.... Thank you, that was very well written .. and your a comic too ..? l..o..l..
This color is a good one - "up Nath" , it's a 2DR, so no help there. Actually the miles aren't really whacked, but it will take a toll, so you get no help there. I'm sure a set of new tires are onboard .. right ..?
You are in a good area for 4WD's .. it's summer but that's a good thing. If I were you, I spend a little Cake, and get that puppy cleaned and detailed, I wouldn't worry too much about the nickel and dime stuff .. unless you can get it done for nickels and dimes.
I gotta figure if it's "dressed to kill" and knee deep and lookin' 01, then you should be in and around the ultra high $7's figure.
..... So what else has the family given ya ..? l.o.l..
Anyway, if it's this "jam up" .. "super clean", "walkin' "talkin' " stalking death, bad boy vehicle. I mean it looks new and it needs -0- across the board, then it's maybe worth around $2,5 to a dealer.
But, this may be a better vehicle for Retail Rd. Clean it up, make it look "bulletproof" .. big fat daddy ad in the paper in your area for $4980, and you should see an easy $4/$4,5 ...
..... You know, I like those Volvo's and I have had a few C70's, nice vehicles. ..
And in my stupid, humble opinion it's as nice as a Benz CLK 320, for the money.
This one is a handshaker, ouch, and a HT (but, it's a coupe) .. but the miles are Super looow. $24 would be ALL the money on the retail side, even with the low miles.
Let's see here .. No doubt in my mind for the the first string, I would take the S80, but not the T6, just the loaded up 80. I have driven em' both, and except for a few horses, I wouldn't spend the xtra Jingle. I like em' cuz of the room, the trunk space, they handle in any weather (similar to a Lincoln LS) and they are very Safe. Volvo's are funny vehicles, once they depreciate to a certain figure in the first year or so, they go static, they kinda hang there.
Loaded up, nice, clean, low mileage 00 S80's are doing "about" what they were doing last year at this time. That's a good thing...
Second string would have to be 3 totally different vehicles - for 3 totally different reasons.
The Honda EX, cuz' of the V6, the room, it should never break, the re-sale is stupid and I can sell it, in about 5 minutes.
The ES300 Lexus, "personally" I don't care for. I have driven a bunch of em', I'm driving a GS430 now, which I like alot. The ES's too me, have alot of room and ride very well and sell very well .. personally I like the old body style VS the new ones, but the whole point is, they will sell with 20k or 120k, and they have a wonderful reputation and they "have" to be "owned" -- me, I would buy a loaded up Camry V6 XLE instead.
The Passat's are great vehicles .. the GLX V6's are runnin' little dogs, it's a Audi A4 in disguise, well built, lot's of BANG for the buck and it "stands" alone on the streets. (they just don't fit 4 set's of golf clubs) .l.o.l. .. and my pick of the litter of the 3, with the strong re-sale
The I30 is a nice, well built vehicle, but it's a Maxima GLE in disguise .. I don't see the xtra money and the re-sale is in a coma.
And last, but not least (depends on who reads this) .. the Saabs, well let's see, they are not really attractive, they run when they want to, the jury (and the market) is still out on them .. but, if you do like em', they a great buy on the pre-owned market, because they have Zippo for re-sale.
So, what's yours worth ..? I would love too tell ya, but what is it ..? Sahara, Islander..?
I am considering selling my current car for something newer (but not brand new- like 2 yrs old). Really like Audi A6/ Volvo S70/VW Passat/Saab 95 but not sure what I would end up with, depends on deal. Should I avoid any? A6 is my favorite.
I have also considered keeping the BMW as a 2nd car for when its needed and during the beautiful days (I think I would really miss having a convertible).
However, could you give me some idea as to what it would be worth should I choose to sell it? Both dealer/private. I could also wait till spring, when i think I would get a bit more for it, correct?

Top is in excellent shape, as is the rest of the car. Garaged. No accidents/work. Synthetic used always. Very well cared for, all records. Just put new tires on about 10K ago, and just did $1,200 service- new alt, brakes and water pump (first major repairs needed).
Wow, it must be the brakes that are killing the value (to say nothing of the truck itself being somewhat less than stunning and rare)....
The tires aren't brand new, but were all four changed within the past 6-8 months.
I think I'll speak to the nice boys at Pep Boys about repairing the minor body/exterior damage. If it can be done cheaply, I can make this truck "look '01" easily after a detailing. As for the brakes, I'm thinking of changing them now, driving it for a month, and maybe buying by the end of August. If I do all this, and whatever else is necessary to make the vehicle "need -0-" as you say, might I get closer to the $9k figure?
Thanks again, and now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to test-drive an Aztek. Here's hoping I hate it.
Thanks, Bill. I haven't been in Brighton myself, but I remember the good time in Slough, Reading, Windsor, etc. along Themes ... and not to forget East Anglia - Norwich - churches, pubs, you know...:) Anyway, you nailed it Bill! I had an ad running since Sunday for $7,9995/obo, and yesterday sold it to a very nice couple for guess how much... $7,995

Learned Friends, We're talking a little "distressed merchandise" here... 1993 Corolla LE 177k mi GREAT shape; 1992 Aerostar 133k OK shape. What are these puppies worth?
Some simple math shows me it saves me little or no money in the long run to drive two beaters instead of one good car. The location is Mid-Michigan, and the rest of the description is here. Nobody better be sending me to my room!
Oh yeah, and to bolster my thesis that buying new often makes financial sense, consider this: Terry says he can buy a 2001 Sienna LE at the auction for $18k+ w/ 25/30k miles. By the time that puppy's in the driveway, it's $19k, easy. The local dealer has a new '02 LE on the lot that's got a sign in the window for $22,900. That's a difference of less than $4k, at 30k miles, that's 13c a mile. That's what some people are figuring it costs to run a beater (see the "Beater cars: How to find one" topic). So guess what I'm gonna do...
Thanks a lot in advance! Affectionately, -Mathias East Lansing, MI
OK.. These new Passats are basically through the roof wholesale. So even a mega-miler likes yours (Sorry man, but 32K on a late 01? That's like 130K on a '98! Aieee...) is still gonna do a solid $16,500-17K across the block if it's just like new.
$9K on that Blazer is going to be closer to a retail figure. In fact, it's what you'd get retailing it and the most I'd say you should pay for the truck retail.
$9K as a trade-in? Not unless you're against an inflated deal on the new vehicle I am afraid.
Hello, I am looking to trade my 1998 Ford Windstar GL in on a 2002 Dodge Quad. I have gotten a few quotes on what dealer will give me. What should I get for it? I know I'm "upside down" as they say. But I would like to know about how much. I get offers from $4000 to $7000. Here are the spec to the van: 87,700 miles light blue clean original rims /w covers dual air (front /back) 3.8 liter engine cd player 4 quad seats roof rack privacy glass tilt/cruise power windows/locks

Good miles, has a dent, otherwise clean.. $5,500 or so as a trade I think. Ask $7,900/bo tho and grab $7K as a minimum.
Bill
Still a Black 4x4 Explorer in Jersey. People eat those up.
$8,500-9K.. probably about $8K-8,500 in the fall. I doubt it will appreciate, but the way the market has been this year, who knows?
Deals on new Volvos generally happen in July/Aug btw...

Your Chevy is worth about $6K as a trade-in.

If it is nice, it could do as much as $19K across an auction block... but I think $20,000-20,500 ought to get her done on a retail level.

Top is in excellent shape, as is the rest of the car. Garaged. No accidents/work. Synthetic used always. Very well cared for, all records. Just put new tires on about 10K ago, and just did $1,200 service- new alt, brakes and water pump (first major repairs needed).
Thanks for your help/ insight!
Brad
Anyway, you nailed it Bill! I had an ad running since Sunday for $7,9995/obo, and yesterday sold it to a very nice couple for guess how much... $7,995
Thanks again, man.

We're talking a little "distressed merchandise" here...
Oh yeah, and to bolster my thesis that buying new often makes financial sense, consider this:
Terry says he can buy a 2001 Sienna LE at the auction for $18k+ w/ 25/30k miles.
Affectionately,
-Mathias

OK, I know Dave likes 5-speeds... I do too.
No Leather in a T5? No Cold Weather pack in PA? El Craparama color? Oh, and did ya see the Cooper S-Rated tires?
Your room is calling
Bill
OK.. These new Passats are basically through the roof wholesale. So even a mega-miler likes yours (Sorry man, but 32K on a late 01? That's like 130K on a '98! Aieee...) is still gonna do a solid $16,500-17K across the block if it's just like new.
Bill
Irrespective, good pricing there.

Like what a Cadillac SHOULD be.
ES300? Blech. As much fun to drive as a Greyhound bus (Well, if you have GTA3 that might not apply
Bill
I personally think a Volvo S70 needs to be a 99+ tho.
Hmm.. the Bimmer.
HOW MANY MILES? UhOh, I am afraid we'll need the whip of "hi-mile-punishment" here.
Trade? $6K, 6,500 MAYBE. Sorry but the miles slaughter it. How nice is the top too?
Retail tho.. I'd ask $8,995 and watch it go for damn close to that I think.
Bill
$9K as a trade-in? Not unless you're against an inflated deal on the new vehicle I am afraid.
Bill
Dang... ya got full pop for it too! You did well.
Bill
2WD? 4WD?
tsk tsk...
Bill
I for one am touched
Corolla? $1,500-2K as a trade.. prolly closer to $1,500 in MI (Ever come to FL? It's do $2,500 at Imperial I bet..shame..) So $2,500-3K retail.
Aerostar? Aiee... I CAN Send you to your room on this one, but we'll assume it's a 4.0
Trade? A G-Note.. Maybe "12 bucks" Maybe "8 Bucks". Probably 800ish. Sell it yerself for $2K-2,500.

I am looking to trade my 1998 Ford Windstar GL in on a 2002 Dodge Quad. I have gotten a few quotes on what dealer will give me. What should I get for it? I know I'm "upside down" as they say. But I would like to know about how much. I get offers from $4000 to $7000.
Here are the spec to the van:
87,700 miles light blue
clean original rims /w covers
dual air (front /back) 3.8 liter engine
cd player
4 quad seats
roof rack
privacy glass
tilt/cruise
power windows/locks
Any help would be helpful.
Thank you for your time
