    ....... Not much of a description ..

Let's say the seats look "hovered" in, 1 maybe 2 Itsy Bitsy dings about the size of dime or less, no front or rear fascia work, no-re-paint and deep in rubber .. looks and drives like a 30k vehicle.

Your going to be in and around that $17ish figure on a trade, if it needs stuff start deducting ..

    Good luck ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ Miles are right, options are right, color is right .. $23 is about what it's worth on a trade, maybe a little less ..

$26,900 is a fair asking price .. but, I'm with you at $26 ~ but I would start him at $25 and go from there ..

Good luck .. and let me know!

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... It's an 01 LT, 4x4, with double nickels for miles ..

I have seen worse .. I'm guessing the dealer put $21ish into it, most Import dealers don't "step up" to the pump on domestics, there too in love with that Honda sign on the street ..

So let's figure $21ish, a service, a detail, a this and a that and a partridge in a pear tree, might be seeing $22ish with the pack -- sooo, $23,5/$24 "seems" to be the right price if it's a nice one ...

    Hey, let me know ...

    Terry.

    We do love our signs!

We also don't like trades we can't sell and the wholesalers don't want!

In my neck of the woods, domestic mini vans are going BEGGING! We take them in cheap and we still end up losing bunches of money on them when we finally take them to the auction!

When we see a Chrysler or Windstar come in, we cringe!

Keep up the good work...you are doing a great job here!

Can I bug ya for a couple more?

Still looking for a truck for the ole man, found this one that the dealer wants to kick to the curb. They've had it for 2 years. Ok, its an ex-sloper which hurts it somewhat. BTW, ex-sloper is the term used for a truck that belonged to Alyeska Pipeline company and was run up and down the Dalton hwy, rough life, but well maintained.

    Here goes.....
Its a 1995 Chevy K3500, crew cab, repainted white/silver (was red I'm guessing), gray interior, new tires/alloys, 6.5L TD (I'm sure that's a deduct, hehehe), auto, Cheyenne pkg, 4WD, 58k miles (probably more if you count engine hours). They are asking $10,995 for it, I'm not sure they will go any lower since they've had it for so long. Soooo, should I think about adding this one to our ever expanding car lot or trot on by to the next one?

Then there's this one.....1991 Ford F-250 x-cab, auto, 7.5L V-8, 4WD, lariat pkg, two tone brown/tan, not a scratch on it, miles in the 50k zipcode, no tailgate (it got stolen a couple days ago), don't know much more about this truck, a friend (its his friend's truck) was telling us about it and *thinks* the guy wants around $5k for it.

    Thanks Terry.....yer a pal!!

my dad's truck is on a lease, it's up in 4/03; He is forced to buy the truck because of the high mileage he has put on it.

    here's are the details

Green 2000 Ford ranger xlt extended cab stepside
    4 x 4
    power windows/power locks
    tilt wheel
    radio/cassette/cd player
    sliding rear window/tinted windows
    bedliner
    trailer hitch
    towing package (transmission cooler)
    4.0 Liter engine
    5 speed automatic transmission
    16 inch tires

assume 40k miles for buyout purposes. Residual is $13,296.21
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Yeah, I know the track record on those things. This one doesn't strike me as being one that ran up and down the haul road, it may have been an around town truck for Alyeska. I can usually spot a haul road truck a mile away.....ya know, the dirt on the bottom that needs a putty knife to scrape it off! I haven't heard that bad boy run yet, so we'll see.

    air conditioning
    keyless entry
    limited slip differential
    power mirrors
privacy glass (I guess same thing as tinted extended cab door)
    not sure if it's a hinged door, but the extended cab doors do open all the way out;

I've read what you said about talking to someone else in charge over the phone; it's financed through ford motor credit; however, they say to go to the dealer; anyway to go around this?

Happy New Year Terry. Auction prices firming up yet?

Here's a couple for your crystal ball. I hope you have it good and polished...

I have two cars on order. A 2003 New Beetle Convertible Turbo Automatic in Aquarius Blue (Baby Blue), and a 2004 Mazda RX8 Six Speed, Red with Red/Black Leather.

The VW is a gift for my mother. She's always claimed to want one, but I don't think she'll want to keep it long. The other I'm just going to flip rather quickly. Any opinions on how these will fare in the early stages of the used car market?

I do appreciate your advice...1500.00, well I guess I will keep it as an emergency vehicle.

Hey Terry. Thanks for the info on the 01 burb with 55 k miles. It was pretty beat up and wasn't even detailed yet. That was surprising. The Honda guy said he'd take off a couple of grand, but there wasn't a serious discussion on price. My guess is that they'd let it go for 22. Think I'm gonna stick with mine and see how much life it has left. My 00 is immaculate compared to this one. Only concern is life left in the thing. Thanks again.

Hey terry---I bought it!!! The guy that was selling it had some money trouble, and had to get rid of it--his payoff on the loan was about 26,500----and he showed me the paperwork and all as proof, and mentioned that that was why he listed it at 26900. He was being honest, I still offered him 26,000, and we met at 26300 as a final price. I know, it probably isn't the BEST deal I could get, but I hate to fight over a few hundred here and there, and I LOVE the car as it is, so I'm happy. I give him the check and he gives me the car next week. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP---WITH THE WRECKED DIESEL, WITH MY SLIGHT AUDI INFATUATION, AND NOW, WITH THE BMW. FOR THOSE OF US THAT READ THIS MESSAGE BOARD, YOU REALLY ARE OUR "ANCHOR" WHEN WE GO OUT AND LOOK FOR CARS. I had to put that in caps, just to emphasize how appreciative I am :)

    Terry,

You did a great job pegging the price for my trade last fall. Now my brother-in-law is looking at updating his ride. He's looking at a '97 960 at the same dealership I bought my S70 from. Here' what I got from him

    in northern NJ
    '97 960
    60 k miles
    Grey w/ black leather
    sunroof
    am/fm/cass/cd
    seat warmer

I don't know if it has the limited slip rear, but assume it doesn't. They just got it in on trade. Body look straight and clean. Tires look good per father-in-law. Engine clean, but oil dirty (hasn't been prepped yet).

What would be a good price?

    Thanks

    Peeter

ps I'll be asking for prices for his old car ('92 240) once I get more info on it.

    Terry,
I live in upstate Ny & want to trade in my 2000 Dodoge Stratus SE on a Subaru. The car is white
& is clean inside & out. Front bumper has some chips, but no other paint problems. The interior is nearly perfect & it runs great. The car has 47,000 miles, power doors & locks, cruise, air & power driver's seat, am/fm/cassette. What would be a fair trade in value?
  • handsfree1handsfree1 Member Posts: 37
Yah Hoo, we got the 00 Navigator and we got it for a fair price (I think) we paid $26,500 so everyone is happy, hubby, neighbor included. Just wanted to thank you AGAIN for your help, couldn't have done it without you!

The big question is, when do I get a new car?

    Terry,
I've found a 2000 Volvo SE, but it is a MANUAL transmission and I'd like to know what that does to the value. Here are the specs:
    2000 Volvo S70 SE
    Black (northern Virginia/DC area)
    Beige Leather
Sunroof, CD, etc. etc. (all options)
    Mileage: 25K
    Volvo Certified
Dealer is asking $19451, which sounds good for an Automatic, but what does the manual transmission do to the price? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I'll take the volvo. Send it to my sister's place in Herndon. See if you can have it painted first (I don't like black cars).

....... Good morning, we have a 93 with 95klicks .. it's an auto, the color is good for the area, it's a 4 dr, you say it's clean ..

So, if the service is 100%, the windows don't stutter when being opened, deep in rubber, low in the kisses dept, drives and looks like a 99, then you should be seeing "around" that $4,5 figure on a trade .. me personally, I would take a big fat ad out in the largest paper and go down Retail Rd, ask $6,900 and take $5,9/$6,500 ..

    Good luck ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... Slopers ..l.o.l...

Sounds kinda ruff .. repaint and such, I can't see how you could get much more than $7,5 at the auctions (of course, it's Alaska) .. the only thing that might save it it the ultra low miles and it's a dsl, but the 6.5 is not known for it's longevity .. sounds like an odd one.

Now the 91 "sounds" like it may be a deal, low in the miles dept, tailgate smailgate, get one from the junkyard and have it shot.

This guy Dave may have a good point - remember, I'm a city boy, I'm not much into the mountains and such, that's why God made airplanes .l.o.l.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... It has all the right stuff and it's a 4x4, it's probably worth the mid $10's on a trade and if it went down down Retail Rd, a good "asking" price would be $13,9 if it's a real nice one and a quick sale would getcha $12,5/$13 ..

Don't call the dealer .. it's just business, if they can't make some jingle on it then they won't play with it. Call Fomoco, get in touch with a Reg/District Mgr for the area (don't spend much time with the nice folks that answer the phone) - and there is a very good chance they will negotiate the residual, the best time is about 6 wks before turn-in - and DON'T tell them the miles ....

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... The Convert Beetles should hold strong especially during the spring/summer months in your area .. figure they will do about $1,5/$2,500 back of invoice on a trade when the market heats up .. it will depend on how they are received, I feel they will be a hot commodity.

The RX-8 should be an %^&# kicker.! If Mazda doesn't mess this up, then it should be pulling what the Hummers are doing - about invoice at the auctions with 2/4/6k ..

I hope this makes sense ..

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are ok for the year, it's a good color for the area .. if it's a nice one, then they probably have $6,5/$7,0 in it, so when you figure a this and a that, then it probably hit's the table at $7,5, they gotta make a profit .. so, I'm thinkin' $8,5/$8,9 should put it to bed.

Yeh, let know on the 240 stuff when you get a chance ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Now don't get all crabby about this .. but there is a bunch of these hanging around, yours is a 00, and it has has 47 big fat klicks (not a good thing), it's a 4 banger and it has a power pack. It better be clean, no kisses, deep in rubber and the interior isn't looking like the Falcons suicide unit ..l.o.l..

On a trade, you might be seeing $4,0 -- $4,5 would just about kill it ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Hey - you did good .. Real good ..!

$26,5 for a 00 with no miles and all the stuff is a steal, plus everyone is happy .. good job.!

As far as Your vehicle is concerned .. try stopping by one of the Ambiance stores and Victoria Secrets - IF, ya know what I mean ..l.o.l..

    .... Welcome back ...!

    Ya know the drill ..

Clean, deep in rubber, no kisses, yatty yatty yatty .. they are doing the low, low $16's on a trade, so figure $19 would be ALL the money on the retail end.

A fair deal for all would be $17,5/$17,9 - this is a little steep in miles and Nav's are only worth about $300 come trade time .. plus there is a fair amount of these floating around - but, great vehicles.

    Terry.

    Your killing me.!

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Well, everything was going your way til that handshaker part .. it has low miles, it's a SE and it sounds nice ..

Probably paid the mid $13's for it .. let's say they had to make the deal, so let's say the low $14's (ouch.!) - so with a little this and that, plus the "certification" let's go nut's at $15,5 -- $17,500 would be the "whole coma se' yama and the bag of chips" for a retail purchase.

Am I reading it right ...? 00 S70 SE with 25klicks, clean nice and the handshaker ..?

I am interested in trading my 1999 Acura 3.0 CL. I am the original owner of the car with all maintenance records. The car has about 45k miles on it and has never been in any accidents. The car has been kept in very good condition...glossy paint and like-new interior. I have upgraded the stereo and also added a performance suspension.

What would the car be worth with/without modifications? Does adding after-market accessories detract from the value?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... All that lowered and slanted stuff is no help to the dealer .. the same thing for $5,000 stereo's with all those speakers, woofers and all the bass stuff going Boom Boom ..

Without actually seeing it (or a better description) .. you are should cut it all loose and keep it ALL stock ..

Stock, the vehicle is worth in and around the high $12's low $13ish figure if it's an auto .. whatever dollar amount you added, thats what you loose on a trade.

Thanks a bunch. This helps me justify some irrational decisions.

As for the car not "looking like the Falcon's suicide unit"....

If the Falcons didn't committ suicide during the past 30 years, (when most of this city considered that a viable alternative), they certainly shouldn't now. They should leave that for the Hawks....

Thanks Terry. You hit he mark pretty good. They're asking 9k. Got a Carfax done on it and it came up with a possible odo rollback. a 5k difference. It may have been a typo during inspections, but is this something worth getting them to knock anything off since it's going to be with the car for it entire life?

    Now to the 240.

    in chilly Northern NJ
    1991 240
    Automatic (sorry Lancefixer & stickguy)
    Gray w/ gray cloth
    150k miles,
New tires (this past fall)(Toyo Proxes H4's)
    am/fm/cass
serviced regularly at indy Volvo mechanic who is VERY meticulous

    the bad points
    - 3" long crack in windshield
    - small ding on hood (only body imperfection on whole car)
    - cracked dash cover over instrumentation (what else is new on a volvo)

To say the car is clean is an understatement. It's a non-smoker car and I doubt if a McD fry has even seen the inside of this car.

He just detailed it this past weekend so I could take some digital photos for him so it's ready to go.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

    Peeter

    Hi Terry,

I was wondering what kind of trade in deduction I would take on my Accord. I'm not looking to trade it, I'm just curious. A deer ran into it (yes, he ran into me) and I had to replace the front driver's side quarter panel and some dings were pulled out of the hood from the antlers banging it. The replacement was done very well; the paint appears to match perfectly to me, but a pro would be able to spot the paint work up close ( a little overspray, the tape line inside the fender, the bolts slightly rounded and missing a little paint).

    Here are the specs:

2000 Honda Accord SE, 38000 miles, auto, A/C, full power, 2.3L 4 cyl Engine, ABS. Tires original with about 5/32" tread left, 2 small doordings on passenger side, barely noticable did not break the paint. Interior is tan with some stains due to 2 small children, but otherwise clean. I live near Newburgh, NY. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Yeah, the sloper is an odd one, but hey this is Alaska, nothing is normal here.

Here's more info on the 91. Its actually got just over 100k on it, new tires, brakes. Less than average wear. All in all sounds like a nice truck. Its pretty loaded too, even has auto start. Oh, and the asking price is $6000. We are going to look at it tomorrow, BUT, we are also going to look at a house, so we'll see. I'm afraid if the house is nice its gonna win.

A [non-permissible content removed] punched and dented the door on my wife's 2002 Toyota Avalon. The dent is on the rear door, and extends up over the body line fold near the top of the main part of the door. There is a dent and the body line is messed up and part of the metal is pushed out above the body line below the window glass. None of the paint is scratched or missing or scuffed. I have two estimates from body shops who want to do a complete putty/primer/paint repair to the tune of about $1400. I can get most of it covered by insurance, but will this lower the trade-in value of the car in the future?

Alternately, I plan to check with a paintless dent remover company, but the body shops are telling me the dent is too big/bad/on the body line crease to have it fixed that way. What if the dent remover guy can get it almost like new? Is that better or worse from a resale standpoint than a repaint repair?
  • greenmaxgreenmax Member Posts: 47
if you can get it fixed by paintless dent removal then by all means do so! It shouldn't affect your resale value as long as you don't repaint your vehicle. OTOH, putty on a 2002 Avalon would definitely take $$ off its resale/trade value.
  • need4speed1need4speed1 Member Posts: 28
Thanks for your advice on my Acura. I figured the after market stuff would detract from the value! I plan on pulling it all out.

BTW...I am planning on trading it in for a 2000 Audi S4 (auto) with 38k miles on it. The Audi dealer is asking for $38k for it. I believe it is a certified used car that is off-lease. Any tips on valuing this one? What could the dealer have given for this car when the previous owner traded it in?
  • need4speed1need4speed1 Member Posts: 28
Woops! I meant that the dealer was asking $28,995, not $38k. (see previous posting)
