...... Thats twice you have struck gold .. Hey, you wanna pull my lottery numbers for this week ..?
$29,9 is a great price for that vehicle .. the black interior in VA ..? I wouldn't worry about it, unless your thinkin' of moving to Phoniex or W Palm ..
...... Will she see a ghee whiz on a trade, she better, it has double nickels for miles ..
IF -- the repaint is GOOD, the vehicle is nice inside and out, sneakers are deep, all the service is hanging out of the glove box, it's just a nice older vehicle, then someone needs to drop that puppy in the paper for $3,900 and let the Mail mans son buy it for $2,5/$3,000 .. *Mathias* posts here alot, and he sells his own vehicles in about 15 minutes in that Michigan area ~ may wanna give it a try .. lotsa folks there lookin' for good, Cheap, dependable, nice transportation in that area ..
.... Right now Benz has a few vehicles that aren't setting any buildings in fire .. the SLK's are one of them ..
Paintwork and some body damage on a Benz steals the value away ~ I can't speak for Edmunds or the rest, but the "ultra clean" SLK's with 20/25K with seats that have been "hovered" in, eat off the floor mats and spend $89 for an oil change every 3,000 miles are doing around that high $24, low low $25 range at the block ..
So, on the retail side, you should be able to buy one for $28 or less .. your buddies with the accident, is worth around $20/$21 and $23/$24 would be ALL the money on the Retail side .. kinda remember, somebody will have to pay for it someday on a trade .. the body work kills it. Yes, the warranty is always helpful ...
The 99 is probably worth $21ish on a trade and $24 would just about kill it, remember no one is beating down the doors to buy these, especially with winter hitting most of the states right now.
As a first car for a teenager in Oklahoma City. LX trim line, The body and interior is very clean, dark navy blue, 59,000 miles. Automatic, power windows and door locks, cruise, CD. On the down side carfax shows rental and lease in history. The maintenance records are very slim. The car is in obvious need of brakes. They are asking $4950. I'm hoping for a car that will last her (the teenager) through college - safe, reliable, and boring. I think this fits the bill. Any insite on price and durability of this vehicle?
thanks for the reply. I only wished the trade in could be a little more. Actually, I'm trying to sell my car, but there hasnt been any takers in almost 2 months! I hope I can sell it on my own, that way I could possible get a couple thousand more.
.... These are great little vehicles, everyone sings the words of Toyota and Honda .. but these Protege's are reliable, great on gas, safe and have no fear to hit 150k with proper maintenance ..
Have this little dude checked out by a professional and if it flys 100%, then go back and start em' at $4,0 and see what happens .. but don't loose it.
When I first placed the ad, around the beginning of December, I was asking for $10,000. Then around the beginning of this year, I lowered the price to $9,000. I actually did have on person that was interested come to see it. She liked it, but she's going to bring her husband with her tomorrow to see it again. I hope that the deal will go further then just "shopping around".
...... Food for thought .. the miles are a little stiff and it's a base GXE - most folks prefer the loaded up SE or GLE .. the way to compete is to keep the asking price low ..
Me personally, I would have it out for sale for $8,9 or even $8,495 ~ it's a lot easier to "negotiate" down to $8, then to have an ad out at that $10 figure, that's a whole different market price and most folks don't feel you will come down to $8ish, and -pass- when reading the ad ..
If there are no calls, the price is too high. There's always a buyer for any car, IF the price is right.
And second that on the $x,900... There's a reason stores to it, it really works. I always advertise for "just under" a full thousand; it helps.
Price a vehicle attractively and they will jump on it "like a bunch of horny monkeys"... and you'll find you won't have to do much negotiating. Leave just a little room, though. "Firm" is a definite turnoff. Don't forget that it's a lot more painful to buy than to sell; you have to sit there and wait, but THEY have to drive around, look at cars, including the ones that smell like cigarettes or dog, and the ones that have been misrepresented... if your car is nice and fits the bill, people will want to buy it and be done with it.
One more thing to remember, though: The weeks leading up to Xmas are really tough when moving a car, for amateurs and pros alike; people just don't have time. That may have something to do with your lack of response.
Went and drove the 95 Chevy yesterday, by the time we got done I could have written a book about its problems. They wouldn't come down lower than $10k, said they had it sold for $10,5k to some company in Anchorage. All I said was I hope they enjoyed it.....my salesman got my meaning and laughed. He was kinda ticked that they waited until we got back from driving it to say that $10k was firm. Didn't matter, after driving it we were going to pass, too many problems.
So, we are back on the prowl, thankfully we are in no hurry.
Looked at a babydoll yesterday. A 1989 Plymouth Voyager, 137k, 2.5L turbo V-6, 8 pass, nice, nice, nice van. New tires, 1 owner, all records. Looked and drove like an 01, inside and out. I was going to buy it for my little brother, but talked to my little brother and in his words....."its not good enough". Was ready to write a check for $1500 out the door. Heck, I had half a mind to buy it and donate it to this program that gives cars to hard working single moms....it was THAT nice.

Any idea on current trade value??? (bracing for the respones!!!)
Well, I let that slk go. COuldn't negotiate as it was my friends girls car and she said dealer wanted to pay her 28K. Can't argue with that. Will look for something else. Thanks for the warning and advice.
Maybe I should look for 2000 boxter(lots of them in the classified) or a 2001 225hp tt convertible. Any thoughts on what would be fair on those.
There is a ad for a 2001 225HP audi tt. He wants to give over payment and wants 3K in return. About 10K miles.
..... The STS's and the 300M's are all over the place .. lease returns, company vehicles, trades, etc ..
Clean 01 STS's with 15/20k with all the stuff, Bose, heated bun warmers, sliders, are doing in and around the $24/$25ish figure, the 00's with 20/25k are hanging around that high $20ish, low $21ish number --- 00 300M's 25k, with all the stuff are doing the high $13's low $14's .. 01's - with 20/25k, are seeing the $15's, low $16's .. based on the "ultra" cleans ..
just curious, but have you ever checked out Kerbeck (in Palmyra). I always wondered how legit the cars they advertise in their ads are, since the prices seem to be below wholesale. I assume they are higher mileage, and likely rentals, but still might be nice. Does seem like many of them are missing the slider, which screams rental to me.
...... I'm sure the dealer is showing an "over-allowance" .. no dealer is stepping up to the plate on those puppies, unless they were betting Big on the Eagles and the Titans .l.o.l..
TT's with miles in the low teens are doing the high $26's, low $27's .. this time of the year you should be able to buy one for $29,5 or less ..
..... Sounds like they might be a little buried in the 95 .. and it makes more sense to keep it on the lot for a retail buyer, hey it's winter, it's a dsl and the miles are low - some dealers just can't stand the pain .l.o.l..
I don't like the 137k on a turbo, espcially on a Chrysler, unless it's a Volvo or such, it could cough up a kidney in 5 miles or less ..
I was referred to this group by the Host from the Jetta discussion board. I purchased a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T over the holidays, but didn't use the Camry as trade bait. I always try to sell them myself. The 1992 Camry XLE V6 is loaded (except leather) and everything is in good working order with 127,350 miles. My wife is a teacher and she drove it the whole time, and had to keep it top condition, because teachers can't be late for school. If she was late, she would have to bring a note from home. :-) No re conditioning is necessary, just put gas in it and drive the next xx,xxx miles without any problems. Tires are the same size and brand with only 11,000 miles. No rust anywhere. In Sept '02 I put $1,800 into it just for routine maintenance (big $ items were power steering pump, # 2 fuel injector and timing belt). At that time I planned to keep it, but changed my mine later for a new car. I didn't want it to start nickel & dime me to death. I placed it in Auto Trader and local newspaper during the week of Xmas. Like someone said above, it was a terrible time to put up something for sale. I started out asking $5,500 and now down to $4,900, but will be willing to take quite a bit less. Had several offers that came in at $3,500 - $3,900. Of course, I don't want to give it away, but there are plenty miles left in it. Sure, I'm biased and think it's a real good "cherry". I've priced it out on the internet and from what other people are selling their's for and the prices seem to be all over the place. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks....:-/
2001 Torch Red Monte Carlo SS- Car is in Portland, Oregon.
8,000 Miles. Auto, Slider, air, black leather, CD, on star, anti locks, alarm system, heated/power seats, mirrors, locks, deep in rubber, no dents, dings, as new.
thanks, appreciate it. John. The new 350Z has caught my eye and hmmm, thinking of making a change.
...... Don't make me come over there and smack you .. you were offered $3,5/$3,900 ..? and you didn't take it ..?
If they got cash, grab it .. the vehicle is 12 years old and it's got 127k, Yota's are Great vehicles, but not that great, next time take the money and run -- just like my Grand Dad use to say "get what you can upfront ~ and fight for the rest" ...
......... Sounds like it could be a nice one .. right color, right options, no miles - as long as it doesn't have weird decals, or side exhausts, you will be seeing the tall tall $12's, low $13's if it needs -0- ...
I don't know what my friend's gonna do about his Boxster, but at least he is informed of his options now. He's in a bind, his insurance is going to become unaffordable in the near future, by law he has to keep a tag on any vehicle he owns here, by law he has to keep any registered vehicle insured w/ at least liablity, by lease contract he has to keep full coverage on it, as you have pointed out, he's way upside down in it.
He was thinking he could garage it and just pay the lease out if he couldn't sell it for what he owes, but for the reasons I mentioned above, I don't see how he could do that. I mean, the lease company would figure out if he did not have the right insurance, regardless of whether it was garaged or not.
.... The only thing that "might" work is to advertise it with a Great Big 5 liner ad, have swapalease (or whatever) in the wings and run the vehicle for the "take over" payment plan .. or perhaps lower the coverage to the minimums, and rent a garage til springtime til' the market opens up ..
Now, if you decide to go down Retail Rd .. a great detail inside and out, a super duper Ad in the Portland paper .. and I would be asking $16,5/$16,9 .. it's a nice vehicle, but your market diminishes cuz' it's a 2dr, so you need to have your pricing in line and you gotta be flexible to, let's say $15/$16,0 ...
If it's Clean ~ the seats look "hovered" in, no parking lot kisses (or just a few, Itsy Bitsy) no-paint work, service is 110%, new sneakers, no stars in the windshield, no meteorite hit's on the hood from the Clampetts truck, just a "stand tall" vehicle lookin' 25k all the way around, then trade side your lookin' at the low $17's -- if it needs a this and a that, then start deducting ..
Your not getting any help from the miles or the color, but it it's a great retail vehicle .. make it look 01, and in the Dallas paper for $21,900 and drop kick it out the door for $19,5/$20,9 .. remember Cash talks and *&@# walks, take the cash.
Got your name from Car man off the leasing board..I appreciate what you folks do for us, thanks.
Here is my deal....coming off 36 mos lease...I'd like to keep the car but the buyout seems way too high...supposedly the residual is negotiable at lease end...details are:
2WD All options/clean 54,000 miles Charlotte NC residual - $24,836
Any advise in dealing with the lease co....what are their options when a vehicle is returned...is it auction only and if so, what are they going to get for the car...I guess convincing them anything above that would benefit them??? US Bank is leasing company.
Finally got the wife to trade for a new CR-V. I have a good relationship with the local Honda dealer, this will be the 3rd new purchase since 2000 and I've sent several referrals (only one who bought though). CR-V's are hot and the dealer is being stubborn about getting MSRP.
My Tahoe is a 4WD 4-door LT, dark red, 23,500 miles, looks good inside and out, 3rd row, towing package, etc. I'd like to get at least $27,000 and I'd probably pay MSRP for the CR-V. Is this a good deal?
I don't know where you live, but here in the midwest with six local Honda dealers, CRV's are going for $500-1000 off sticker. That isn't what the dealer will tell you at first, of course, and your trade may complicate the deal, but 21800-22300 should be doable on a $22860 crv ex.
Terry, You be the MAN. I just called the guy who wants to buy my 1992 Camry XLS V6 for $3,800 and said, don't go away, I'll be right there. $Cash$ money too. Thanks very much for the advice. These boards are very cool. I'm happy now ;-)=)= Thanks again, Cards28
I'm planning on trading in my 96 Grand Caravan SE for a 2003 Honda Ody. I hear that Honda tends to lowball on the trade prices.
What can I realistically expect? The dark red Caravan has 110K miles, rear air, 2 sliding doors, 3.3L V6 and is in good mechanical and cosmetic shape. Only options missing are alloy wheels and trip computer.
New tranny (not rebuilt) was put in at 95K/<1 year ago and came with a 3 yr/36K warranty.
... Import dealers do have a tendency to get a little snooty, I always wonder why, they make enough jingle .l.o.l..
But, in your case they might get ugly .. your Van is loaded up in miles, it has a re-built tranny (or new) .. and there is a Kazillion of these running around -- I don't think you are going to see much more than $1,5/$1,800 ~ lot's of miles going on here.
Yup, another candidate for a private sale. It's been said before but there is always a ready market for basic transportation in the $2000-3000 range. Spend $100 or so and have it professionally detailed, make sure the basics work, and I'll bet you can sell that puppy right quick. Imagine all the young families that need a van like that. And one less thing to deal with at the Honda dealer.

No slider, no leather, no wheels .. with 67klicks and a little touch-up needed, you should be seeing in and around mid to high $6's on a trade ..
I hope this helps ..
