This one is the no-sale blue with the tan guts and I guess it has no tranny, but it is a good color combo .. you can start him at $27 and see what happens, but they are getting "ALL" the Jingle at the auctions and the Acura dealers are sucking em' up faster than Oscar DelaHoya was lookin' for air .. unless this one has been whacked, cracked or smacked, then the dealer probably has the $28ish figure in it .. 05's it don't matter, most dealers have less than a 30 day supply ...... check it out close, see what happens and let me know ........................

Wow, I haven't looked at a car in forever, maybe its time I go look around.......have to go to the Nissan dealer tomorrow, maybe will take a gander around the lot........hehehe.
I like Anchorage, I should, seems like I'm always down here. We will be here until the first part of October, that's when my daughter's doctor might let her out of the hospital.
It's a 2001 Honda Civic EX Sedan. It's plum in color, has power windows, locks, moonroof/sunroof, and mirrors. It's got cruise control and is in what I would define as average shape (a few hail dings and scratches/some interior wear. This is where it gets sticky though, it's got an aftermarket stereo system originally valued at about 5k. It includes a detachable face Pioneer CD player, three 12" sub woofers, 1000 watt amp, 250 watt amp pushing fully upgraded interior speakers.
I guess what I'm asking is, will a dealer take that into consideration. All of the extra equipment might not mean much to their overall profit. Would I better off going through the hassle of selling it privately?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Do you live near a college town, or in an area with semi-affluent H.S. students? You "might" get a private buyer willing to pay a bit more for the car with the stereo--& this is just a guess--you'd be lucky to get $1000 additional over the usual private sale price for that year Civic. Can you get all that stuff removed w/o tearing up the car? You could then try selling it on E-bay, but that can be a hassle too........
If you want to get values for your car here you'll have to provide area, mileage, & transmission.

Not much of a description here .. obviously you bought the vehicle pre-owned and it had around 23k on it .... S500's have to be "in the wrapper" to get any real money, deep in the rubber department, service from yesterday, seats hovered in, no repaints and have the "glove of love" ... trade side, depending on the condition and the dealer you will be seeing in and around the $31/$32ish range, maybe ... at 57k the miles are low for the year, but dealers and buyers get a little hinky when a nice driver needs stuff .. where's the love.?
Down Retail Rd, complete the service and the fat daddy tires, a superb detail and a wonderful Ad, then: $38,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $36,5/$38,0 .. don't let the "big" numbers in the books tell ya any different, dealers are dropping the 25/30kers "baby dolls" for $40 or less .. your biggest competition will be the CPO's ..
Terry.
Woodyww hit this one right on the head .. you can spend the big money, it can make big sounds, it can even pick-up the babes, but it's *worthless* to a dealer ..... can you spell: Stock ..

Ooh, I know this color .. it's a 95 Deville, we have the 70k thing going on, tan guts, serviced I guess, no smoke, bun warmers, no Christmas lights on the dash and lightly used .... if we have deep sneakers, no K-Mart kisses, no drive-by's .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $2's, maybe the low/mid $3's if it's a nice one .... me personally, this a great vehicle for Retail Rd, finish whatever, get hooked-up with a detail god, drop a super 4/5 liner Ad, $6,900 *asking* and wave goodbye at the first $5,5/$6,5 ......
Happy hunting and let me know ..

Another logical reason would be simply that we haven't been burdened too much by these killer storms that have wreaked havoc in Florida and elsewhere. Ivan passed by this past weekend and dumped a few inches of rain and blew down a few branches... but that was about the extent of it. So, flood damaged cars isn't necessarily the first thing that comes to mind for bargain shoppers. Out of site, out of mind... so to speak.
Damaged Cars Sold At Discount
09-21-2004 7:41 AM
(Cleveland, OH) -- New cars damaged in Florida by Hurricane Frances are being shipped to northeast Ohio and sold at discount prices. The cars are from near Fort Myers, and were sent to Ohio for repair. Damages include dented bodies, broken windshields, and smashed trunks. Dealers are required to disclose the repairs, and a number of cars have already been sold in the Medina area.<

Sounds like they're on the move already.!
Terry.
One reason is that they go to the biggest market outside of the storm/flood areas but still within reach. Another reason is illustrated by the article quoted above - if they send them too close to the damage areas (in this case Ohio, NY etc.) they get picked up by the authorities or the media right away. People in the Boston market aren't as tuned in to the problem since we had no flooding.
He has his mechanic look for water damage along with the normal stuff.
Thanks again.
I saw the pictures on your link, good looking 190!
Mark
In the past, you could probably just say, "if the price sounds too good, maybe it it is". However, with all of the huge incentives out there in the market, there are some incredible deals out their on "good" inventory.
FWIW, I am not in the market and moderators, if this is in the wrong spot, sorry in advance.
If you sell privately, you may be able to get $9,000-9,500 if it glows in the dark - you're still $4k upside down.
My advice is, if you want to get away from it, save up and add $4k with the money you get from selling privately. Otherwise, pay extra money against your loan and knock out that negative equity.
As my first sales manager in the car business used to say, you have an ailment only cash can cure.

i see it all the time:

Buy out is 11K, supposedly non-negotiable. (Lease is through VW)
Lease was 48 months, and 48K so she is 15K over at .20/mile or $3000 in excess mileage.
She does like the car and would rather buy it than pay the 3K.
Looks to me like it is worth nowhere near 11K (even retail on TMV clean is 10K). Should she just buy it (VW offered her 2.9% financing for 3 yrs), or pay the 3k and go on to something else. She will obviously not lease again with the work miles she puts on. My first thought was bite the bullet, and drive it into the ground, but thought I'd ask you. Seems like a lose-lose deal either way. Thanks again. Will let you know what she decides.

When Hurricane Floyd came in 99 there was some serious damage, but most of the Big rain and flooding ended up in the Carolina's, If I remember correctly, Columbia was out of power, phones and water logged for about a month(?) .. down here, the vehicles then, were mostly dinged, a buff, maybe a little touch-up maybe had one with some real damage out of 300/400 vehicles on the ground ..
That being said, now that we've had a plethoria of bad weather and it's stretched from the Keys to Pittsburg, you have to look close, reeeal close. The buyers have to be careful, but we all know the guy that wants a "deal" .. you know darn well the guy down the street, or the guy you play golf with, or the guy who's at every Flea market will be hunting for the "great deal" and thats the type that will buy em' - "Hey, I saved $4,000" ..? - whatever ... with all this computer technology, alot of dealers are now starting to purchase their vehicles online - not me .. if I can't feel em' or touch em' or smell em', then I don't want em' ......................
Terry.
You are looking for a used car. What should someone be looking for in order not to get ripped off?? Again, I am not asking this for myself as I am not in the market.
BTW, a friend bought a 2004 Ford Taurus SE NEW for $11,600 plus TTL. OUCH ... for the dealer.
Now she's financing a 5 model year-old car on a 5 year note! The loan has 3 more years to go and the car has 85k on it and maintenance is beginning to catch up with her. I smell disaster ahead...
What you're saying is she paid for the mileage... twice.

Q: you made my point for me. SHe should look at her bug as a used car she can buy for 8K. If thats a good deal and she likes it, go for it. At least she knows the original owner.

I think there may have been more to it than that, like some late payments in the past, and they just got even at the end.
I knew someone that had a $500 lease payment on a mid-90s Camry, then got a job that was 60 miles one way.. Ended up buying out the open-ended lease and financing the car for five years at $600/mo.. And the salesman was a "family friend"...
To their credit, they sucked it up, and they are still driving the car with 250K on it.. But, that is the worst deal I've ever heard of...

First place, look in the trunk and under the spare and feel and smell, pull a little carpeting off by the gas/brake pedals, floor boards, rust.? same thing .. feel under the seats, that means "under" the seats, put your hands in there, feel anything.? hows the power motors feel.? .. is it odd the whole vehicle is dry but the interior "under" part of the driver/pass seat is wet/damp.? .. check the back seat, pull it out if you can and flip it over, cokes and coffee get spilled everyday, but I never saw water marks under a vehicles back seat from stem to stern .. when you start it up, stand by the rear exhaust and look for a few minutes, water dripping for more than a minute in temps above 40 .. put the lights on, look for any condensation in the tail/headlights (Lincolns LS's are none for it so you can't count them l.o.l..) .. pop the hood with a *bright* flashlight (better seen at night) see any water marks from the cradle up.? .. of course, you have the basics, stuff like dirt/mud in the fender wells and look at the "inside" of the tires, you can see the dirt from the pass side, from the drivers side when kneeling on the ground .. stuff like that.
Terry.
I need a trade-in value for a 1999 Acura 3.2 TL in NJ. It's black with tan guts with 170k miles (yup, no help there). It's a non-navigation model and comes standard with other options (e.g., leather, moonroof, auto, power everything, etc.). It's in fair condition with decent amount of tread left on the tires. My sister is looking to trade it in before things start falling apart.
Thanks in advance.
My former advisor has a white 2001 Grand Caravan AWD, 65k miles, fairly loaded, cloth. He does not smoke, they don't have pets -- but two teen boys -- and they take care of their stuff. Ballpark, what's this thing worth? Sorry about the lousy description, haven't seen it in awhile.
Secondly, he's got trouble with it, and he's getting the runaround at the dealer that sold it to him, including the DC 75k b-to-b warranty.
It's pinging badly at 2000 rpm (65 mph steady speed). EVERYBODY can hear it, except the service advisor and mechanics ("could not duplicate"). Finally, he went on a test drive with a mechanic, and it was so bad the guy changed his mind and finally acknowledged the noise.
They still have no idea how to fix it. They're telling him -- this is straight -- to avoid driving at 2000 rpm. He tells them THAT's 65 mph!! The service advisor said, well, here in MI, the speed limit is 70, so go faster.
When he takes it in, they'll fix something else that may or may not be wrong, and hope he'll just go away. He's been getting the runaround for quite a while now, and he is at a loss as to what he should do. Apparently, they're unable to fix it and unwilling to dig deeper. The van is going back tomorrow, for the Nth time... I told him to hold the loaner hostage until it's done, but they threatened to dock him $30/day if he did that. This dealer does have a lousy reputation...
BTW, this guy has a very good grasp of technical matters. He's not imagining this stuff. Apparently, he's been too nice to these people. He's got 10k and ~ 1 year left on the Chrysler warranty... what should he do?
TIA
-Mathias
You are scaring me.. How about trying another dealer for service?

That's as ridiculous as the previous king of ridiculous - a local dealer group (Allentown, PA) advertised that the "factory" had authorized a clearance sale - what, the factory doesn't let you sell cars except during certain times of the year??
Also, the ad explained that the dealership had received 3 times their normal allocation! Yeah, right! Most places and scraping to just get in the rides that they ordered, but we're supposed to believe that the factory "accidentally" shipped them 150 cars instead of 50??
The thing is, people believe this junk, and will show up, just like people in Cherry Hill, NJ, show up looking for $8,000 for their trade, no matter what, and absolutely NO credit checks. The credit check thing? The fine print on the screen shows you have to have 80% down!
qbrozen: I really like the Pilot. I'm just not an SUV type person. Although I would like on at my disposal but all in all I think I'm better off with the Odyssey.
Think i will keep it for winter and sell in spring. car has trac. control Weights in about 2tons & front wheel drive. Plows right thru the white stuff. Will just adjust price in spring

Lets just say it's a loaded up ES and we have the AWD, 3.8, leather, quads, rack, wheels, new stoppers and sneakers, looks nice, clean, sitting at 65k ... sounds like the tall $9's low $10's, might get a few bucks more because of the awd in your area ..... oh, by the way, have him find a new service department.
