    A good round-about number would be: 4,500 to 4,800.
  • cobraboy1cobraboy1 Member Posts: 69
The Pilot is too new, to give an accurate value for, but I'm sure that if I was put on the spot then I could come up with a number.

As for the Altima, the front bumper would have to be fixed. We would have to put 4 new tires, so that will be a deduction too. In the end we are looking at about 1,850. The mileage that you have is an 1,850 dollar deduction by itself. I would definitely sell it on my own, if I were you.
  • cobraboy1cobraboy1 Member Posts: 69
Ok the leather add on will add about 300 if it was a good job. And by that I mean if you can't tell that someone else other than honda did it. Because the rims are older than the car it, but it is an upgrade over the regular wheels. That means that it wouldn't help you but it also wouldn't hurt you.

I would give you about 6,800 trade. Private you could ask for around 8k+
  • cobraboy1cobraboy1 Member Posts: 69
And I'll be happy to answer you for both of the vehicles!

For the Durango. Ok I'll be honest with you here. Right now the market just plain sucks for SUVs. However yours is an R/T which helps it some because it isn't too normal. The hood will need to be replaced and we'll have to fix the dings so that will be about 1k deduction off of the value.
So for a value on the Durango is about 8k to 8.5.

Trucks are always looked at in good favor. especially because the more options that you have the more that families look at them. With yours you have good mileage and THAT will be good in the customers eyes and in ours. So he is selling it for 21k huh? That is pretty steep for private party. That is a little more that I would ask for retail! On the other hand if the truck is in that good of shape he could charge a good amount. He has a great truck in great shape and he knows it. I would want to charge that but I wouldn't, not privately anyway. about 19.5k sounds right.

Ok I am not sure if you are going to like this number but here it is. The book says more but if you traded that in at my dealer. I would give about $100.00 ACV and show you about 5.

That's about what I was figuring. Thanks.

Damned, if it runs OK, and was near me, I wold buy it, just to teach my son to drive stick on ! He is just getting his permit now.

He's 16, so AC? let him sweat!

The problem with getting a $100 car for a 16 year old is that it will still cost you $2000 per year to insure it.

Once you factor that in, it's not nearly as cheap as it seems. Especially if the 16 year old will be the primary driver.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,337
I live in NJ. Trust me, I know about insurance.

Actually, depending on the car, it will be cheaper for me to insure a 3rd car, than to just put him on the policy. As long as he can be assigned to a car with no comp/collision, I save money.

So theoretically, I couod buy something like an '86 Taurus that didn't even run, put tags on it, and say that is his car. And my insurance would go down.

Really? I'm not there yet, but my agent has always said that the insurance will be cheaper, if he isn't the primary driver... In other words, if we have less cars than drivers, then our premium would be lower..

I don't really want to get him a car, anyway... but, I might be out-voted.. ;)

If you do, I would give you about 32k +/- some change depending on the situation.

easy. link title look it up with "fair" condition. there ya go.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Gotcha, just get the minimum liability coverage for him and that's cheaper that full coverage on one of your current cars. Clever.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Thanks much, cobraboy1. Your number is WAY lower than Edmunds ($6494 trade value) and illustrates just that "books" can be so very wrong.

Yours is important information because here I'm looking to buy from a seller who is planning to trade only if he has to.
  • cobraboy1cobraboy1 Member Posts: 69
Ok, so your in NY. The AWD is going to be helpful, the 5spd, if the market up there is anything like it is here in Hilly PA, then a stick is generally not a good thing. Mileage is really good, that helps would have to see it but I feel pretty confident giving you a good estimate. Which would be about: $16,000 I feel safe giving you that number without seeing the CR-V

For a 2000 Chrysler Sebring jxi Convertible

    2.5 litre V6 automatic

    FWD

    66,000 miles on clock

Green Exterior with Gold pinstripes and wheels/ Black Leather Interior

Paint is in good condition, there are a few scratches/dents from a basketball goal landing on the trunk.

Regular maintance as well and the car has never been wrecked etc.
  • cobraboy1cobraboy1 Member Posts: 69
So it is a 2000? That would be right before the body change right? So, we are talking about a convertible in the summer. Good time to trade something in. About: 3,800 or so. The only real thing going against you is that the car is seven years old.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The tan leather in my Miata gets hot enough, what possessed Chrysler to put a black leather interior in a drop-top is beyond me.

If I were to remove all the add-on's (bring it back to stock condition) how much value would the vehicle lose?

Here are approximations for the accessories that dealers charge (I paid no where near that and did all the work myself)

    Fog lights: $400

    Self-dimming mirror: $300

HomeLink: Not availabale (I installed Oddysey unit, MSRP: $400)

Heated outside mirrors: Not available on the CR-V EX (I installed CR-V SE mirrors)

    OEM Honda subwoofer: $300

Variable intermittant wipers: Not available (I installed Acura RSX unit)

As to the stick, there are only 3% of the CR-V's made with stick. They are hard to come by new, and even harder to find used. I am sure if I were to sell it, there would be someone interested in a stick shifted SUV that beats most other SUV's as well as many cars at the traffic light race and to the gas pump. (0-60 in 8.5 seconds, 26 mpg city)

My girlfriend's Escape V6 (auto) can't keep up with the CR-V, both are 2005 models.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,547
I'd sell it myself... Play up the stick-shift, and you will have buyers beating a path to your door..

On another note.. I'm going to be in Buffalo this weekend.... Where should I eat? :)

That's exactly how I'd advertise it - the stick is quicker and more efficient.

I sold a 48hp Chevy Spring in one weekend by plastering 45MPG in bold type in the ad.

0-60? On a downhill, maybe it would reach 60, eventually. :D

Anchor bar, of course, if you want to have REAL BUFFALO WINGS. Duff's is another good wings place. Both will also serve Buffalo's specialty: "Beef on Weck"

If you are not into wings, there are other types of great foods here.

I am not selling, not yet. I just wanted to see what it was worth. There isn't anything on the market that screams at me. Maybe when Honda has a diesel. Of course, they will put it in the Accord first, and from the rumors, TSX AWD Diesel is next, then, maybe, a CR-V diesel...

Value on aftermarket items is always pretty iffy. Because they appeal to different people, however with yours it would indeed drop the value to me and my customers because most of those items are things that people can use. The book does not give any deductions for taking those things off, but I can tell you that if I saw your CR-V and appraised it for 16k and then you told me you were going to remove those things. I would drop the value by about 1 to 1.5k. To around 14.5 to 15,000.

    2001 Subaru Outback VDC wagon
    6 cylinder (H-6) auto
    AWD with VDC
    91,000 miles
    Wintergreen (light blue-green)
auto-dimming rear view mirror/compass, anti-theft, wood (plastic) trim: the options besides what was standard for the VDC model.
Interior in good to very good condition
Extterior has a few dings, 1-2 small scratches
Tires about 9 months old, with approx 9000-10000 miles on them.
Brakes last replaced at around 30,000 mi
rear differential service done 14 mos ago (at 75,000 mi?), with transmission flush same time.
Oil changed every 5000 miles with synthetic.
One front fender replaced in 2002. In 2006 front bumper replaced and one of the front fenders (can't recall if same as the other one).

Would like to try selling privately before next car purchase (08 Tribeca). But will trade if can't get good price privately.

I don't see many Subarus for sale privately around here, not sure if it's due to lack of inventory or lack of interest.

So what are your opinions on trade-in value vs private sale?

    Thanks!

    Hi
I am in a lease that for a million reasons we need terminate early. :( Any idea what the real value of a 2006 4Runner Limited with 38k miles is? It is loaded-and I do mean loaded. The miles are high..the car is in excellent condition..no dings, no damage, no nothing.
    Thanks!!

Engine: [2.4 liter, 4 cylinder, manual trans
    Mileage: 113,000
    Color: red/tan
Pretty basic has only alloys and power locks
    Condition seems pretty clean
One collision with "very minor damage" reported

What should I expect to pay for this?

Dealer seems to want at least $4000 for this car, my kid's budget is about $3000. To me the high mileage really limits the value, even though it is only 4-5 years old. Also the manual makes it a tough sell for the dealer, they have had it for a while.

Values are all over the place, the truck should bring $11,000-$12,000 tops.

Used Scooby do's seem to have pretty good resale value.
Trade in should be between $6-7,000
Less if the bodywork is noticeable,or shows up as accident damage in Carfax.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    2WD or 4WD?
    V6 or V8?
    Nav?
    DVD?
You do need to be more specific
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Dealer is probably in it for more than $3000.
Esp if he's had it a while.
However, I think anywhere from $3500-$4000 is fair retail for that car.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238

    AWD
    26500 Miles

Theoretically, private party should be about $2k more.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Prob somewhere @ $21,000.
  • jeffyscottjeffyscott Member Posts: 3,855
Thanks. If it is that close to $3000 for a 2003, his target could probably be reached if he can find a 2000-2001, perhaps even if it has fewer miles.

I've priced this at $6,990 to sell privately. I'm getting nervous that this is too high and I really want to sell this car quickly. I would consider selling to a dealer if it's not *that* much less.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hoping someone might have some insight on real world trade-in for:

    2004 XC90 T6
    46,400 miles
    3rd Row
    Premium Sound
    Premium Wheels
    Wood Steering Wheel
    Sunroof
Basically all options except NAV in case I missed any (MSRP was approx $48k).
Car is really perfect as far as clean and exterior go (probably needs new tires to sell as they're close to the end)

I'm at the end of my lease with a $23,500 buyout (pre-sales tax)

    Thanks in advance
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
    It's eight years old.
A new one is $16k, at least a friend of mine paid that.

The miles are nice and low, but I believe that's WAY too much money.

Just under $5 might get it done on a private sale if the car is nice. But that's just a guess from an amateur.

A nearby Ford store still has a Mustang GT which I have talked my wife out of several times. They've owned it for between 90 and 120 days now, at least. It's had the price dropped several times and is now listed on the "Specials" page for $22,900 but I was told I can have it for $21,900. The last time I saw it, it had spiderwebs hanging from the sideveiw mirrors! I can't beleive it's not moving. Is it fate? :shades:

Car is in the big city of Lillington, NC
Again it is a 2007 Mustang GT
    4.6L 300-HP V8, 5-speed manual
    6,600 miles
    Black with tan leather
Notable features include the leather, metal-look interior upgarde trim package, side airbags, MACH 500 audio, limited slip rear, power driver's seat

It appears to be a local trade. I have driven the car and it is very nice.

What is the absolute bottom-line price for this thing? I wouldn't think they'd let it sit much longer without auctioning it off.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Wholesale is around $22,000
Private party is prob @ $24000
    Dealer retail @ $29000

so, your buyout price isn't out of line.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
$21,900 looks real close to wholesale, pretty good price IMO.
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
That's a whole-lot-o-car for $21.9K, IMO. I haven't even driven one yet, & I'm not really looking for one even, but if I saw it for that price at a local dealer, I'd be salivating. 300-HP V8, 5-speed, super-low miles, hhhmmmmm.....

My 2cents: do a carfax, get the service records, try to find out if it's some kind of "buyback" for being a Lemon or something, but also: don't look a Gift Horse in the Mouth (too much). Personally, I'd be all over it....

OH: & your wife wants it???? She has pretty good taste in cars, LOL. You do the math.

    Thanks for the info!!

I ended up getting $11,500 for the Durango, and got the Toyota for about $19,000. I still owed some on the Durango, so they tacked on what I owed to the Toyota. It was on a dealer lot by the way. So far, pretty happy with the decision. The Durango has been listed on the internet for $12,988.

    Thanks again!
