....... Ok, it's got 82 klicks and it's a 96 850T wagon right ..? With all the bells and whistles. If it's super nice and clean, no parking lot kisses, knee deep in rubber and has been able to escape the "french fry invasion" .. and looks and drives like a 2000 ----

You are probably looking in and around a $8/$9,000 figure (real money) ... people are not afraid of a high mileage Volvo..if.. all the service and records have been followed up and cared for ...

..... I'm sure it's nice and clean ... but with the miles and such, I feel a dealer will be in and around a $4ish figure ..

........ I remember you guys, you are the folks from Alaska -- how are you ...?

Gee whiz... after what you have told me about the prices there, I would think it's worth about $30 grand ...l...o...l.....

Well maybe not $30 grand ..but, it's gotta be worth more than $13,500. It's a little deep in miles, but I guess theres not a 7-11 every other mile.

The dent doesn't help, but still, you guy's are right on -- it's worth $15,000 all day long on the wholesale side (5-speed, yuk..) --- I would get the dent fixed with "dent wizard" and have it cleaned and detailed..make it look like a diamond, run a nice "5 liner" in the "big" paper in your area for $17,500, and have some nice guy come out and insult you with a $16ish figure, and say, bye bye to it, and buy a new vehicle ... l...o...l...

The best of luck ...please keep me informed

    Terry.

....... Oooooh, nice vehicles ..! I like these alot .. runs like a spanked school child ..

The miles are a little stiff for a 02'. But, these vehicles are in demand, If your friend has taken car of it, and it still shows "new" a high $29,000ish would not surprise me -- Last Wednesday an 02' with 3,100 miles, silver, did $30,250 at the auction ... Soooo, on any given day ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... These little Civics, like the Vw's and Acuras get a little crazy, it's a low mileage vehicle ..it's loaded etc..

*Clean* 2000 Civic EX's loaded up with 10/15K, with an automatic, are doing close to $14,000+ at all the auctions ... So a $16,800, $17,200, $17,600+ figure doesn't surprise me on a 01' .. I see it every day....
-- It's a funny market right now, 2000 XLS 15/17/19K (new body style) Avalons are doing over $24,000 -- that's way out of the book, and as a dealer makes no sense to me ...but, like I always say -- "On any given day" ... l...o...l...

    Terry.
  • dave210dave210 Member Posts: 242
That's amazing that a dealer might give me that much for a 4DR silver '01 Civic EX Automatic with side air bags, when kbb.com is only quoting me $14,650 for trade in.

It's also interesting you noted that Avalon's higher than average trade-in since I actually have a 2000 Silver Avalon XLS loaded with about 21,000 miles.

Anyway, thanks again, and I just might go see what the local Honda dealer near me will give me for my son's Civic trade-in. If it's in the high $16 to low $17,000 range, trading up to a improved 2002 might not be a bad idea.

the part about having to be back of loan cuz its a Jetta is pure bull. Here in Chitown, Jettas sell like hotcakes. 5 speed turbo GLS are fairly rare, I bet you can get at least $15k for it. Of course, I'm not a dealer, this is just an observation.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Thanks, here in Alaska Jettas seem to have weak resale for some reason. My car has been a wonderful car and I wouldn't be selling it if things were a little different in my life. I would be in even worse shape with it if it was a 2.0. The TDI and 1.8T seem to do better then the others, but it being a 5-speed hurts it. I will shop it around and maybe end up putting it in the paper for $15K. That hurts considering the car sold new for $20K just 8 months ago.

    Thank you Terry.

Terry I agree except on the 01 Civic. You think $18K?

I was thinking closer to $16K but nothing surprises me at all on those... If a clean 96 will do close to $9K at the sale... sheesh!

Oh, remember that ratty 94 XJ6 that they wouldnt sell at $6,800? 3 weeks later after they kept trying to be real greedy, it sold for $4,900! Ha!

What's that saying you have about being a pig? :)

Hey, Terri, thanks for the info. I doubt I am going to get anymore than $13,500 in trade for that little Jetta. So, I guess I will pop it in the paper for $15,500 with 2 sets of tires and see what happens. Most Jettas that are advertised right now are in the $18K to $20K range, most are also 2000's.

Alaska is definatly a strange market. For example, just the other day I looked at a 95 Explorer Limited in that horrible purple color with 125K on it. That thing was trashed, the interior was in fair shape and it had more than its share of dings on the outside. The used car dealer wanted $8995 for it, probably why its been there for 6 months. I would buy it........for maybe $7000 but not a penny more.

Just a side note, that's the same used car dealer that offered me $13,500 for my Jetta. He has a 2000 Jetta equipped like mine, except for it has an automatic tranny and its a 2.0 sitting on his lot for $16,995, of course it also has 32K on it. That's why his offer surprised me, mine only has 17K on it, is a 2001 and a 1.8T, but its a 5-speed.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    I agree...

Shop this baby a little more. Methinks its' gotta be worth $14,500 wholesale at least...

And advertise it for like $17,900. As they say you can always come down!

...... Yep, shop it around ---- Gee whiz, don't tell me I'm going to have to go to Alaska to get VW's ---we pay the moon for them here ....

    Terry.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I'll send it to ya.......if you can find me a nice $10K SUV. You can have the Jetta for the bargain price of $14,000. Its a good little car, I can't fault it. Of course I don't know how desirable if would be down there, no moonroof, and it has heated seats. Anyway, I am going to shop it.

Hey, any of you guys know if I could negotiate the payoff on it with VW Credit? Its leased and I am 9 months into a 48 month lease. I want to pay it off next month.

........ Where did you go in Canada ..? I was in Vancouver BC twice, loved it, that is a Great city..!

Last week I was in the Columbus auction on Weds, and Man on Thurs + Fri ... my partners were in Detroit on thursday ... some of these prices scare me ... I saw many Civics go right out of the book --- the best deal I ran into, was a purchase on a 2000 Accord V6 EX, spoiler, 20K, champagne color and clean.. $18,900 ....Oh well, it was pre-sold. .... and perhaps the "steal" of the week, a 99 MB E430 same color with 22K and purrrfect -- $33,500. --- and these +%&*^ Avalons, what's up with these ..? 2000 XLS's 15/18K for $24,000+ ... give me a break.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Hi Jon, it's sounds like these are base Grand SE's right ..?

Well 98's with 50/60K, are doing in and around the $9's on the wholesale side at the auctions ..if, they are clean, and need about -0- ... at least this should give you and idea...

    I hope this helps ..

I went to Sarnia, Ontario to get this: (Also a few cases of Molson and Cadbury's Candy haha)

    image

    Heheh... ACV?

Agree on the Avalons.. I can't believe what people are paying for those suckers. I mean, you buy a 2-yr-old one for $24K and you can buy a new 02 XLS for what, $28K or so I guess? What are you gonna price the 00 at? $26,900 or so? "Well Mr Customer, you can go to a 2-year-old one and save close to $1,500 you know"

    Hondas still amaze me...

Tell ya tho, if you can snag any megamile 94-95 Camrys for $2K or less that are clean, ship em down here and run em at Imperial.. its' AMAZING what they do there.

Bill, what do you see in those things?? That car is practically junked. Are you going to spend the next 5 years restoring it?

I don't want you to be distracted from getting me my supercharged VdP (in carnival red).

I have a 1999 Honda Prelude (with casette, CD player, and a spoiler) that is coming off of a 3 year, 15k/year lease in December. It is in very good condition (not perfect though) and at lease termination, I will have about 43k miles on it. I can buy the car at the end of the lease for $13,700.

What is the value of this car? I was thinking of buying it at lease end and then using it to either trade it in on a new car or sell it as a used car (to possibly make some money).

    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

And wait till this car is done. I had a 64 Porsche 356SC Cabrio that was worse than that when I started.. was a 99 point car when done.

I've gotta admit, you look slightly crazy - maybe that's what a cross-country trip with a Jeep and a trailer will do to you...:)

(although bush looks just like I would have imagined - he's definitely had a mullet in the past and just trimmed it). Wil is entirely different.

Were you guys drinking that oil when you bought that thing ..? ... l.....o...l.....

Bill, I will be at Butler tommorow --- Do you REALLY want me to call you if aaah ummm, errr...Vushacks, eerr a Bobbysocks..uummm a Vuxhosen, is going through , or whatever they are called ...? Isn't one enough ...? ....l...o...l...

PS. were you at Butler last week ..? ... I will probably be back right after Turkey day, but I think we will stop off at Costa Rica 1st ... I hear they have a lot of Puegots there..

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Well for starters, it's a the right color combo and it's got a slider ... on the downside: it's a hand shaker with some stiff miles -- It's an Acura, so most people aren't afraid of the longevity, it's a coupe, so this dwindles the market size ----

Put that all together, and you are looking at a vehicle that will do in or around the high $8's on the wholesale side ..maybe a little more if this vehicle needs -0- ... Now if you are to go on the retail side ... ya know the drill -- detail it, have all the service records and such, ready to rock and roll .. Maybe a $10,900 "asking price" and go from there ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... It's a 90K Stanza with an auto..and everything works ..and looks and drives good. (GXE..right..?) ... if it's sharp an needs about -0- you are probably around a "gee whiz" on a trade.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... I see you are from the DC area .. so these vehicles are pretty strong there.

The 43Klicks aren't going to help..and let's hope it's a auto (SH..?)... sooo, with all these toy's and such, this will do in and around a mid $14ish figure -- So your buy figure is a great deal for you ...

    Terry.
  • hsj1906hsj1906 Member Posts: 42
Thanks Terry. Unfortunately, my car is a manual and its not an SH. I am guessing that this will probably put it right in the range of my purchase option ($13,500).

    not a trade-in yet...

i'm about to buy an audi tt roadster, 225 hp quattro, and i'm stuck on which color: moro blue, or nimbus gray. i love them both.

so which one would likely produce better resale value down the road, should i ever be able to part with my soon-to-be new baby? :)

    thanks, guys.

on a 2001 Ford Taurus SE with 12K miles on it on either NADA or Kelly or Edmunds. No 2001's are listed under used right now, only new which the car is not! Can anyone help?
  • mbwhitleymbwhitley Member Posts: 32
Sorry it took so long for me to reply. Thanks for your help. If I trade the Bravada in, it will be for convenience, and I'd be happy to get $4k even :) It is in pretty good shape, but I'm the second owner and at 107k miles it's pretty much an auction car.

My new vehicle is a GMO purchase, so there's not a lot of profit for the dealer to swing towards covering a trade. I'll ask what they'll offer, but I don't expect much blood in that turnip.

What I was asking is a bit off-topic (but there is no real world retail forum that I know of). I had seen KBB often treated off handed by sales and customers here as much too high with their values. Here I had 4 retail estimates from $3900 to $8000+, and KBB was rock bottom. If THAT'S too high, I'm in trouble. So I was hoping to get some feedback that the $5800 to $6000 I plan on asking at retail was a reasonable open.

I actually parked next to a 164 the other day. Black, looked real sharp. Not for sale, but I hadn't seen one in person in ages.

..... The only thing I can recommend is to have it all cleaned up .. and make it look like a diamond for a retail sale -- the dealers are ... (all over the country) are seeing 4WD vehicles in the hundreds at the auctions --- Tomorrow I will be at the Butler auction in PA, and the Chrysler sale will have at least 3/400 4WD vehicles running through (all kinds, not just Chrysler) --- that's just one of many. Just to give you an Idea, Clean 2000 Mercury V8 Mountaineers with 15/17/19K, loaded up, sliders, AWD, leather ...etc are going for the high $15's, some might slip through and do $16/$16,200/300/400 on the push --- The Bravada's are doing about the mid $15's .. so at least you can get some idea here.

The only point is that you have some stiff competition ... I'm thinkin' for you, like I had mentioned before, in the $4's ...

But, on any given day .... you might get more,
try it and see what happens --- nothing here is off topic ... especially Vauhaulers..err Vandolikers...errr Vauxenmolers..or whatever those cars are that Bill drives --- l....o....l....

I hope this makes some sense ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Not a doubt in my mind ---

Nimbus Grey ...... Moro Blue is "cute', that's why they call it -- "No sale Blue"..! Tuff to sale afterwords..and I have seen a bunch go through the auctions -- Stay with the Nimbus, you will do fine...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
......Really ...? You are kidding right ..?

There is more Taurus's at the auctions than any other vehicle --- 01 SE's with 10/12/14k are doing in the low $12's, SES's are doing in the mid $12's..and the SEL's are hardly beaking the $13's --- so add about $2,000 and that should be about the retail ...

    I hope this helps ...
