They're asking $9999 or best offer
Edmunds clean dealer retail price $6073
Kbb "excellent" suggested retail value $8,100 (<5% of vehicles fall into this category - I doubt a '99 is in excellent condition)
I talked to a salesperson, who said he looked it up on kbb and shows the price to be in the 8k region. He also said he would be looking to get closer the $9000 for this Civic. Likely because they have no trouble selling Civics now, especially due to gas prices.
Think he'd go lower? I'd like to think so.
What's a fair offer?
2008 Honda Accord LX automatic
4 door sedan
2.4 Liter 5 speed automatic
8,000 miles
Exterior Color: Gray
Interior Color: Charcoal
Condition: Excellent
For reference, I sold a Legacy L, 2002, with only 61k miles, in similar condition. Dealer offered $5300 but I sold it private party for $7950, which was all the money.
Try private party but that mileage is gonna turn buyers away. Here's a tip: mention something about "Perfect replacement for that gas guzzling SUV" in the ad, that worked for me. Fuel economy is first in the minds of a lot of buyers right now.
Right now, small cars are bringing stupid money.
This car ought to trade for @ $4,000 and retail for $6,000
I think $9k is a real stretch, but I have no doubt that someone would pay over $7k for it.
New to this board. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to a "real world" trade-in offer for the following:
I own a 2002 Ford Escape XLT 2WD 4D White 64K miles w/ running boards and roof rack (purchased/used Northern NJ) - no accidents. I have all service records on the vehicle and consider it to be in "good" condition. Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Asking $6500 or best offer.
I am viewing this car Thursday. If it checks out, I'd like to know what a "or best offer" would be.
$6000? $5900?
No doubt he hopes to realize 6 so start lower ($5500 or less) and come up as needed.

Wouldn't be surprised if the dealer wanted $15,000 for it though.
Sentra would prob bring @ $4,000 on trade.
They are asking 11,8. I forgot that the location is Columbia SC....sorry. That and the fact that it is a stick probably keep the price low.
4K was about what I was thinking on the Sentra.

Edmunds TMV says ca. $28K; NADA says $33K, and KBB says $32K all for good condition.
I listed it on Autotrader for $28K, but have received 2 calls both offering $26K. I see dealer-listed for same year and mileage and features for $32-36K.... Should I expect more than $26K or is that all the money for private sale???
Thanks guys

Some have been going for stupid money at the auction.
However, I suspect they are being exported.
I think gbrozen is right, $23-24k seems to be right for trade.
So, $26-27k is prob the money private party.
You are absolutely correct. One of the buyer plans to ship the truck to the Middle East, and he told me the color is the "perfect color" on a Lexus that fetches the most interest and money.
Strangely, I have had 4 callers... each have made the exact same offer - $26,000. Two came with cold hard cash  At this point I'm going with $26K, even tho' its a little lower than what I wanted. But $26K is $26K!!!!
Thanks for all the help, guys... I am gonna need your help on my next post.
One of the guys who wants my LX470 also offered to buy my 1999 LS400. He offered $7,500. Below are details...
1999 LS400
Pearl white/tan
134,xxx miles
Loaded with Nav, HID, 6-CD changer, new tires, new brakes, oil changed every 5K miles. chrome wheels (AM)
All scheduled maintainance done, water pump, etc... replaced at 90K miles
Car drives like new (I know how tall the miles are, but these cars are unbelievably well built)... has been babied in terms of the drivetrain (I don't skimp on maintainance)... car interior is very clean, leather seats in great shape, everything works...
Here are the bad...
cracked windshield
loose front turn signal (need to be replaced)
scratches on bottom-part of front fender
a slight dent on front passenger side around the turn signal
Located: San Diego, CA.
I want like $8.5K. Am I out of my mind? j/k.... is $7K offer I got all the money??? The same buyer wants the 2003 LX470 (see above), and his total offer for both (LS + LX) was $33,500 in cash....
Good deal?
Asked about a package price (although I don't need both) and he said $18,000. Well, the GS is worth every penny of $7500 but with gas prices being what they are, it's hard to justify the LX even at $10,500.
Anyway, my point is that if you can easily get rid of them both for fair money in the current market - do it and be done with it.
You're saying people showed up with $26K, in folding, green, non-counterfeit American $$???? Did they seem legitimate? Given what people are saying about how so many of these are shipped overseas, it brings up a whole lot of questions.
Usually I love--or insist on cash--when selling a used car. Just make sure the actual cash is legit--as is the buyer........
What I did was go to the treasury.gov web site -- I think that's the one -- and learn about the safety features in the money. By the time you've checked the water mark and the alignment of the microwriting on the safety strip, you can be pretty sure it's legit.
$50s and $100s are pretty hard to counterfeit, compared to ten or fifteen years ago.
-Mathias
The car is definitely going overseas it seems. The number of interest has been astounding. It did catch me by surprise that a V8 truck will garner this much interest. At this point, I am giving it away for $26K and selling the LS400 for $7,500, and calling it awash.... The decision came down to the guy that wanted both cars, and he gets it. He is a very happy camper cos he is getting a darn good truck for cheap... The LS, well its got tall miles and getting real long in the tooth as well... Won't miss it.
In replacement, I am buying a 2005 530i (loaded, sport, Xenons, Nav, etc) - wife's new ride and a 2002 A4 1.8T quattro (loaded, sport, Xenons, Bose, etc) - daughter's new ride.... Just gotta live a little.
Meet at your bank and make a deposite. The cashier checks the bills with the ultraviolet light which makes something glow a certain color on some bills.
>$50 and $100 are harder to counterfeit...
I was in the bank months ago and the cashier showed me a note about large bills that pass the yellow pen test for paper authenticity. The people wash the color out of $5s and then print them as $100s. So the paper is authentic. But the other threads and other security features are wrong. I believe the threads are on different sides of the $5s and $100.
I did a lot of reading then about counterfeits but have forgotten lots of what I learned. I occasionally run a concession stand for our nonprofit group at a ballpark and we take lots of $20s, and $50s and $100.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I am buying a 2005 530i (loaded, sport, Xenons, Nav, etc) - wife's new ride

Question #1- How long do you think it will take you to recoup the $20,000 loss you just took by trading in an '08 Durango?
#2- Is it possible you were braindead six months ago and didn't realize that a 14mpg 4x4 wasn't the best purchase at $3.25 gas?
#3- I notice your new more fuel efficient Crossover is rated for 23mpg highway.....will you be trading that in a year if gas hits $5.00....?

Would be curious to find out what trade-in and/or auction price would be...
how bad is the market for SUVs like the RX these days??? *gulp*
However, I don't know how hard it is to unload a 134k V8 Lexus right now.
So, that $7500 offer may be the best you can do.
If it's within a grand of where you want to be, I just might take it if I were you.
Both are running fine for now...the wife is itchin for a new(er) car though...lol
