As an Ohio taxpayer I have to ask how the school district decided to buy Toyotas by Daihatsu? There are all kinds of vehicles made in Ohio... Was a board member related to a Toyota dealer? I realize the treasurer does not make that decision!!! but I am curious.

Well, trade would be in the $13-14's.
So, a private party price would be $2-3,000 more.

Wow, those are good values for the Outback.

From a buyer's perspective, you may as well buy new. They start around $20k.

A reporter would like to talk to mothers who use a large SUV to transport children but are now considering a smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle as a result of high gas prices. Please respond to jwahl@edmunds.com with your daytime contact information along with your current vehicle and the vehicle/s you are considering no later than Wednesday, June 11th.

Good question and I don't mind at all. We had run this inter-school mail/delivery service for many years and finally discontinued it due to funding issues (it was partly supported by state funds which are no longer available and without that money the cost per district was prohibitive for some of the smaller districts and they dropped out making the whole thing implausible after this recently ended school year). Over the almost 13 years I have been here we have had Dodge Caravans, Ford Rangers, and Chevrolet Malibu Maxx's. We had severe expensive maintenance problems with the Caravans and Malibus, and the Rangers were fine, but not "user-friendly" for delivering volume mail (too much hands and knees crawling in the pick-up bed). We are a county school system and our board insists that we buy within the county. There is a new Toyota dealership in the county and they decided to try them. Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks and thanks to volvomax as well. Don't think I'm going to go this route because the mileage rating is about the same as my Element for city, and that's where I'm looking for savings. We have a minivan so I don't need 2 family type vehicles. From the value on the Element, I should be able to trade into something more compact/efficient for a similar payment and save $80-$100 per month in gas. Car shopping used to be a lot more fun. Oh well. Thanks again.

I said it before and I'll say it again.
It's a lot of brain damage to save $100/mo.

Thus the reason I'm still driving my Pilot. I figure 20 mpg isn't THAT bad and the gas savings will never ever come close to covering what I would lose trading it in, lol. Good thing I love my SUV!!!
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Should trade @ $14,000
  • rprossilrprossil Member Posts: 62
I understand, and I'm considering that as well. We're considering it since we're not upside down, and there are still a little over 2 years left on the Honda loan (bought it used), and the maintenance will increase during that time with the miles. If trading it meant taking a loss, that would be a different story. Unfortunately, most of the driving my Honda does is 16-18 mpg, and I'm not a leadfoot, so that is why we're looking into it. It would only make sense to me if I can get to 25+ mpg in city driving. I do appreciate your honesty though. Thanks.
  • robbiegrobbieg Member Posts: 350
Subies don't get the best mpg since they are AWD. I have one and would love to sell it but I don't have enough equity to get into something that I would like for the same payment. That being said, I love my Legacy GT and would really hate to sell it.
  • rprossilrprossil Member Posts: 62
I know what you mean - I really like the Element, but since I have the equity and don't need 2 "utility" type vehicles (other one is a minivan), we're looking at the savings aspect, but I need to be around 25 mpg city to make any sense, so I'm looking at subcompacts and compacts.

Hello, I live in Orlando, Fl and I am looking for the trade-in value of my vehicle. It is a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE, 4 door sedan. It has a 1.6L engine with an automatic transmission. It currently has 45,980 miles on it. The car has power everything, single cd audio system, ABS brakes, and cruise control. The car does have a few scratches and.or dings. The paint looks good. The cars runs really well. I would say the tires have at least 75% tread left. The car is its 2nd set of tires. Brakes just got new pads about 3 months ago. I think that is about it. Any info given would be great! Thanks for your assistance! :)

This is a highly desirable used car, especially right now, and should bring $9000 to $9500 on craigslist if it looks nice. Somebody else might have a hard trade number but my feeling is that it's worth $7500, give or take $500.

There might not be any auction data on this model.. (Was there ever another car with a 3.0 litre 4-cylinder?)

You should also post your description here: What is this thing worth?

Mr. Shiftright can give it a shot..

Off the top of my head no I can't think of any other 3.0 liter four cylinder vehicle that wasn't a diesel engined truck/tractor of some kind.

Shifty is his best shot in that other thread. He had a 928 for a long while.

968s are hugely dependant upon condition. Completed eBay listing might be the best place to look. What amazes me is that nice ones go for as much or more than early Boxsters in nice condition. I love the front engine Porsches, but that is just crazy to me.

    2006 Pathfinder SE
3.5 V6 (not exactly sure on displacement but its the V6 they put in all Pathfinders)
    FWD
    34,500 miles
    Black on black cloth
    Upgraded stereo, sun roof
Condition: Good. Minor paints scratches on hood, otherwise all normal wear. Tires good (50%), brakes good. All maintenance up to date.

I have a good lease payment but am going to exceed my miles by a lot. (Lease ends April '09, I have 4,500 miles remaining, I will easily do $15k in that time. Job change brought this situation on.) I am trying to figure out what the break point is for a new car payment that would make early lease termination and buying a new car cheaper than just hanging onto the Pathfinder and buying it at the end of the lease. Thus, I am curious as to what it's worth in trade right now.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Truck values are plummeting so fast they are hard to keep up with.
You probably have a $4-6,000 truck right now.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    $7-8,000 on a trade.

    Couple more private party
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Actually, 3 went over the block nationwide.
    Avg miles was @ 65k
    Avg value @ $9,000
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, right now SUV values are dropping rapidly.
I'd say that $12-13,000 would kill your truck dead right now on a trade.
  • dbtdbt Member Posts: 298
Thanks Max. Edmunds TMV on it was about $9300, KBB was $14,900. Seems the auction puts it much closer to Edmunds.
