With a previous accident on that truck I'd be $18,500-19k on it... If it was never hit $20,500 or so.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm..

    My gut is $22,500-23k..

But ya know.... might wanna get a buy figure from Gibson Truck World up in Sanford, they are known to pay big $$ for big diesel pickups.

Caveat: I have no relation to them.

    Sounds like $10,200ish to me.

Rental car spec.. no sunroof, right?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Yeah I have flood insurance... I'm a co-owner.

House is a mess... it's more of a rental property, maybe some day I'll be able to live there ;)
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
After hurricane Gloria hit our front porch without quite going into the house my wife decided in a hurry she wanted to live on the mainland. I still kind of regret that move though I'll tell you barrier islands in NJ have some of the worst winter weather you'll find. The wind never ends....

Yes, it is the rental car spec, complete with self-leveling HID headlights, and no sun roof.

I was hoping to get $12k out of it, I may have to carmax it to get the most out of it as a trade.

As a consumer, I have to ask. Why so far below Edmunds/Kelly/NADA trade value? Even the 20,500 is 1-2K lower than TradeIn book.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
If you search this discussion for Kelly, you'll find the many many past posts about this. I would like to find the best one and bookmark it so I can post it every time.

Is that certified? I've been looking at these as well and CPO on a BMW seems to be better than buying a new one.

    Well..

As a dealer, those sites annoy me, they always seem to be quite a bit over what we'll actually trade a car for. Why? I have no idea.. recently had a customer show a KBB trade printout on a Hyundai that was $3,400 and change for fair.

I was at something like $1500 figuring it'd do $18/1900 at auction, which is what it did, and after expenses I think I ended up losing $50 on it.

In the midwest that truck might bring 21s on trade.. or Colorado. YMMV but with a previous accident, and seeing as the truck actually took a hit, expect at least a 10-15% hit.

    Sorry I missed it!

    Figure $12,500-13k.

Galves is $12,800 with the miles.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Grey...

    You mean Polished Metal?

    Figure $19-19,500 if it's clean.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Is it a CPO car?

If so $27k should buy it I'd think.
  • csielercsieler Member Posts: 3
Thanks im brentwood and gbrozen for you replies and insight. Sounds to me if I can get $19000 on trade I should take it.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
It's a tricky truck to appraise, shop it around but yeah $19k or better is probably all the $$ if it's been hit.

Post back.. let us know how you make out. Just make sure that you compare the cost to trade... whatever you do, don't stay fixated on one part of the deal. I could sell you a new Santa Fe and show ya $22k for that truck, or I could show ya $19k and a $3k discount on a Santa Fe..etc...

Thank you. As usual that's less than I had seen on all the sites but I'm still $5K in the green over what I owe on it. 0% financing is a wonderful thing. :)

That's a safe color, there's another one.. I forget the name, that's more of a bronze and a lot less desirable.

Volvo did it right for quite a while...

    Black
    White
    Red
    Dark Red Metallic
    Dark Green Metallic
    Silver Metallic
    etc...
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If it's clean it ought to be worth book I'd think.

Trick is where you trade it.. Caddy dealer might not go nuts on it, ya know?
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,277
Now that I think about it, in the mid-1990s, Volvo used to have a huge color chart, and most of the colors were available on all vehicles. Nautic Blue, Pewter Silver (and a couple more shades of silver), etc... I was looking at the Jetta GLI the other day and was dismayed to see it only comes in five colors: Black, white, silver, bright red, and grey. Out of those, I would only consider white or grey.

I hate to say this but I blame Honda for this. They discovered early on that they could sell everything they made with very little in the way of variety. I think back in 80 a 4 door Accord was available in maybe two colors. When I bought my 00 Accord if I wanted a stick and a sunroof I couldn't have a red car.

and took the first available - blue.
The only other 2 colors then were silver and gold.
Oh - and forum related - paid MSRP = $4,145.
    Sold 2 years & 25,000 miles later - for $4K even.

From 2007 - 2010 we leased my wife a 2007 Montego Blue BMW X3. The color was very eye catching. She constantly got compliments on it & loved the color. She could always find it in a parking lot. As well as the X3 drove, it could have been pink with yellow polka dots & green stripes for all I cared.

The car we replaced the X3 with was a Black/Black 2010 Acura TSX. She likes the car, but says it blends in too much and are too many black cars on the road.

When we found out she was pregnant with our 3rd child (a girl), we got her a 2011 Pilot in Polished Metal Metallic/Black. She wanted Bali Blue, but that only comes with grey leather. I insist on black interiors as I find them easiest to keep clean.

Good thing my 2001 Prelude Type SH is a very vibrant Milano Red.

Bill, do you find cars with black interiors generally wear better when it comes to trade in time?

In addition to the Montego Blue on our our dearly departed X3, they've made some gorgeous blues over the years: Estoril Blue on the E36 M3, Laguna Seca Blue on the E46 M3, & Montreal Blue on I believe the Z3.

Now I'm the complete opposite - I refuse a black interior. It gets too hot in the summer and it closes in the interior. We had a hard time finding a new Explorer last month as we wanted the Stone (grey or tan depending on the light) leather.

I guess that's why we have chocolate and vanilla - but no strawberry or blueberry in car interiors...

This is supposed to go from one post-doc at our Lab to another, so I'd appreciate some advice as to what a fair price would be.

    Location is mid-Michigan.

    2010 Corolla "base," automatic, red
    4,280 miles
ABS, A/C, that's it -- crank windows, no cruise

    Errors:
One ice-related parking lot accident: New bumper cover, head light, + hood straightening and painting, with a new hood support. The quarter panel is original.

On the opposite side, and this must have happened before the car was sold "new," the QPanel is not original -- VIN sticker is missing.

Build date of 12/09, car was bought last September, so there was plenty of time for a little parking-lot adventure at the dealership.

Dunno if any of this is on Carfax; insurance was involved with the 2nd repair, but no police report afaik.

There is a silver-dollar size bruise with paint missing from the ftp bumper cover, and a foot-long white scratch next to it.

Car is clean, non-smoker, no other goofy smells, all door VIN stickers are present, no dents, no big scratches -- didn't have the best of light. It's due for its first oil change, based on age alone ;->

    The asking price is $13,500.
    Whaddayathink?

    Thanks in advance -Mathias
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Well.. that's unibody damage... I'd normally say trade-in on a clean one like that is $12,500-13k, with the low miles... but in this case..

    I'd be around $11k as a trade-in.
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
Unibody damage? The hood is original; the "support" was a $20 part I picked out of the body shop report; $200 for a lamp, that sort of thing... total bill was $1800... I don't think that counts as unibody damage.

I may have misquoted the "support"...

    -Mathias
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Replaced quarter panel?

    That's frame/unibody damage.

If the radiator support is welded in, that's unibody/frame. If it's bolt in and any part of where it bolts to the inner fender or if ANY part of that inner fender was touched, that's unibody damage.

But a replaced quarter is a big deal.

Yeah, those early Accord coupes tended to be that one blue. In 80 when they started the sedan they must have made 80% of them that sea foam green - that's what mine was. The interior was the same color. If I opened the engine it probably would have been green.....

Speaking of the engine that was the first car I had where at 150K you opened the hood and on the engine/air filter and such was - dust. Not a bit of oil. Just amazed me. That's a bit more common now but back then it seemed a miracle.

I've got a question about one of your "competitors." I hear the (in)famous #60 advertising on his radio commercials a lot. I know that any dealership that advertises THAT MUCH (Major World, Potamkin...) has got to be running a shady operation.

What's the catch over there on Route 1 in South Brunswick New Jersey?

Is there an ADM sticker on every car that he takes "30% off the posted dealer price?"

Does he charge ridiculously high interest rates?

Ya mean "BB"? Oh yes, it's what you'd expect.

A Sonata Limited Turbo with Navi barely has $2k between sticker and invoice, a GLS has less than a grand in it. Heck, an Elantra GLS has $395-405 between invoice and sticker. (And we have yet to either discount an Elantra or have one sit more than 2 days in stock, I'm sure they're in the same boat).

This is where the $2,995 protection package, $999 Market Value Adjustment, $995 appearance package, etc all come into play. Remember, it's not 30% off of MSRP, it's 30% off of "Dealer Posted Price"....

I've been in there before, you can't leave without having several closers work ya, etc. But guess what? Biggest Hyundai store in Jersey, and usually neck and neck with Atlantic over on Long Island for #1 in the country (Atlantic has been #1 recently last I looked, think it was June when they sold something insane like 630 new cars, Benson has been over 500 every time I've looked).

But there's several factors at work here, to their credit they truly work every deal as much as possible, advertise a TON, and they have the mother of all allocations, a couple of years ago when things were different they took every car they could get and blew em out, now they have all the cars in the world.

Everyone says that they hate this crap, however... it works.

And ya can't charge ridiculously high rates these days, the banks we use cap rate participation at 2 points.
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,491
It is crazy. I personally would never set foot into a 3 ring circus like that. Like you said, they have to be doing something right. They aren't just advertising in the Sunday paper. They advertise during afternoon drive on WFAN which is cannot be cheap.

    It's not cheap.

But bear in mind that regardless of what gets discussed on here, the vast majority of buyers that we see still aren't hard core internet shoppers, most just come in to look at a car and buy one.

High pressure tactics do indeed work... I don't work that way but a lot of guys do.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,277
You have a point there... A lot of people really like being sold to. I dislike it, but I think I'm in the minority.

Hello, looking for an estimate on trade in. Lease end for this car is in May 2011, but considering our options to sell given the low miles.

    Location: Near Boston, MA
    Year/Make/Model: 2009 Toyota Camry LE
    Body Style: 4dr
    Engine: 2.4 liter
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 13,000
    Color: Silver
Major Options: Standard options + floor mats
    Condition:
Interior is in excellent condition, exterior has a 3 inch scratch on the passenger side of the bumper which has been compounded over pretty well; otherwise, normal condition
    Tires - original to car
    Brakes - original to car
Maintenance - as required, every 6 months or 5,000 miles
Other: No accidents or other issues; driven by older couple around town

It won't make a difference as far as the trade in number you might be quoted here, but the buy out value would be some good info.

The residual (pay off) is $12,500 give or take a few dollars. I need to look up the exact value.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
My guess is 12.5 is about the trade in value for this car but the pros here can give you a better number.

My brother in law might want to trade in his 2010 LE w/ 14K miles and I don't think he can get more than 15K. 2010 has stronger engine w/ minor upgrades.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
It's probably a $12500-13k car depending on the color, assuming no accidents and clean condition.

Is there equity in it? Probably not much, if any. Is it worth buying out? Oh yep!

Looking to get an idea what I should pay for a used 2008 Infiniti M35x. Basic details would be:

    Location: NYC/NJ/CT area
    Year/Make/Model: 2008 Infiniti M35x
    Body Style: 4dr
    Driveline: AWD
    Mileage: 24,000 approximate
    Color: Unknown
Major Options: NAV, advanced tech package
Condition: Used from a dealer so good I would guess

Also, I would be trading in my current car so what can I expect as a trade in value:

    Location: NY
    Year/Make/Model: 2000 Nissan Maxima
    Body Style: 4dr
    Engine: 3 liter
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 123,000
    Color: Black
Major Options: Standard options + floor mats
    Condition:
    Average

    Thanks
