I bought a 2K TL wNAV at Brunswick Acura for 32.2 with destination in May of 2000. Always try to buy at the end of the month, they often want to push product before new interest accrues.

For anyone interested in prices - I got a quote at Island Acura, Long Island for 27,274 for a new 2001 TL. The price included destination charge.
  • sgrd0qsgrd0q Member Posts: 398
Note that the above quote was for a car without the NAV package.

    s1gins,

you paid 32.2 for a 2001 TL... did that include dest. charge, tax, title and reg??? that seems high if it did not?

anyway, i emailed Maryland to see what they have going on... looking to purchase soon within a week or two... will probably hold out until month end (thanks for the advice, maybe i can squeeze some more out of them!)... edmunds has dealer holdback at 2%... has anyone been able to use this info to their advantage???

We bought our 2000 TL w/NAV at Brunswick Acura too last May. Gee S1, we have more in common than we thought. With everything except tax, we spent $30,100. They put in the wood package, six disc cd changer, wood shifter, cargo holder and some other stuff my husband insisted on. I would think at this point that $29,200, plus destination (which you have to pay on any car), would be a credible price, but try and get them to throw in accessories that you want.

    Good luck!
  • s1ginss1gins Member Posts: 51
    Oops, it was a 2000 w/NAV for 30.2K.
  • s1ginss1gins Member Posts: 51
once again an error, i looked at my worksheet and it says 29.2K.

Eq, who did you deal with? I dealt with Gary Z.
  • mrk7mrk7 Member Posts: 5
Thanks for sharing your information with me... i am talking with Scott (salesman from Brunswick Acura)... he has quoted me $29,000 for a Silver/Ebony 2001 TL with Nav. I have yet to work on him about accessories...

given that you had a bunch of accessories put it, i could see how your costs are 30.1 (equalizer1) ... good job! s1gins, did your price of 29.2 include any accessories?

i looked up some of the accessories online and nothing jumped at me... are they ones that you would recommend..?

still shopping that $29,000 price around... probably could get the other dealership to go lower...
  • s1ginss1gins Member Posts: 51
I got mats and splash guards for an additional $350 (supposedly below full cost but looking back probably a little too much) I did not include tax, title and license.

I too have noticed nicks in the driver's side pillar a while after buying my car. I quickly realized I was doing it by sort of throwing the seat belt toward my left shoulder. Now I hold the seat belt all the way as it retracts.

We've had our TL for just over a year now and I can simply say it is a smooth, powerful, good handling, quiet car. Everyone loves the Nav sysytem and after 16,000 miles it feels as solid as day one. One complaint is the 15,000 mile service was $279(a bit on the high side) and a screw did pop out of the console that kept it from closing(The top bin), I did screw it back in myself but that was very Un - Acura like.

Overall, it has been a great car so far .
  • mhammy84mhammy84 Member Posts: 167
i noticed the seatbelt nicks too when i first bought the car. talked to the service manager about it, and he said there really isnt anything Acura has to say about it (i am sure acura had not reacted to quickly to the problem back in March when i brought it up). Anyhow, he said that for now, they could try to acquire a piece of leather the same color as my interior (fern) and apply it there. I said, "NO WAY." So now the marks are collecting, but its not that bad looking anymore. Oh by the way, dean, i hit the window with my seatbelt today in the CL and was glad the damn glass didnt shatter...it was LOUD!

Our salesman was Fred. He was very nice and helpful. We had a really nice, easy experience with Brunswick Acura. Except for a paint blemish that my husband noticed upon delivery, which was fixed, the car is flawless. We love everything about it, especially the great NAV system, which has taken us just about everywhere.

I don't think pats70fan price is exceptionally low. I got an offer from Island Acura, Long Islang, NY for a 2001 TL for $27,274. This included the destination charge. I did not haggle with them at all. One may be able to push the price a little lower. (As it is I decided not to buy a TL after all...)

To the individual who wanted to know whether to have the wind deflector installed on his wife's TL by the dealer. I have one on my car, and in my opinion it does reduce wind noise but better yet it reduces the amount of wind buffeting coming into the cabin at high speed with the sunroof open thus you will keep your hair intact. Another benefit is that it looks nice on the car.

The deflector installation is simple. All you need is a 10mm box wrench and a philips screw driver. No holes to drill. The deflector uses clips to hold it to the roof. Save yourself a few dollars and install the deflector yourself. I did this because I wanted it done right. Most dealers will just slap it on and be done with it. If you get the dealer to install it, be sure and specify that they need to put the protective tape on to protect the paint from the clips. Most dealers will not take the time to do this.

When I turn on the headlights on my 2000 TL I notice one quick bright flicker when they first come on. Has anyone else noticed this on their car? Is this normal? Does anyone know what causes this?
  • tunabeartunabear Member Posts: 9
The HID lights use gas not filament so when the electricity "charges" the gas it flares a bit to start. I think it's kind of cool, myself.

I don't get why you have a problem with the compressor. Just push the a/c button and the compressor will stay off, yet the climate control will still work. The display will read a/c off. You will probably find that the temp can be set lower. I usually leave it at 68 with the a/c off and 72-74 with the a/c on to keep the interior de-fogged. I've done the same thing on my last several cars with climate control, and there are no problems.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their responses to my sun roof wind deflector question. I think I'll go the self install route too and see how it goes.

enough of your crap. we all know you are a saleman for acura. you are on the message boards for acura mdx and rl too claiming all of these information. if you wanted to be helpful, just give the name of the dealer that is offering these prices. no need to be so secretive about it.
  • leeareedleeareed Member Posts: 10
We ALL want to know how to get a good price, so just out with the info or keep quiet.

can I mail order one from you? I will pay $5.95 for shipping and handling.

    I bought a '01 w/out navi this month for $27,000 + plus dest. fee & options.

Go to the Acura TL section of the "Smart Shopper" conference for details.

I did NOT buy it from pats70fan!

I went to the dealer for an oil change today, and there were more TLs (and CLs) on the lot than I have ever seen. I think things have slowed down, or production is way up, and there are probably lots of good deals out there. Please don't post how cheap you get the car for the benefit of those who bought early this year :)

My 2000 3.2TL (bought Oct 99) has a rear window mounted brake light that flashes three times before staying on permanently. I have never seen another TL with this feature - was this discontinued?

Also, I had my seat belt holders replaced due to the update (SRS light on) about 2 months ago. I recently had the SRS light come back on, and took it back in. The dealer said they had just had a new bulletin on the sensor and that my car would be the first to get the treatement (not making me feel great!). Anyway, seems fine now.

If the HVAC system is totally off, and if I push the "A/C" button to engage the system, it engages it with "A/C ON." So, it is basically the same as just pushing "AUTO" to engage the system, since both buttons engage the system with the "A/C ON." Other vehicles that I have driven have a mechanical A/C button so that it does not have to remain on all the time...although I have heard theories that claim the compressor lasts longer running then it does when off (especially when it remains off for the entire winter).

    Hey All,

Thanks for everyone's input! I bought home my Silver/Ebony 2001 Acura 3.2 TL with Nav from Brunswick Acura (NJ) on wednesday... i put about 200 miles on it over the holiday weekend! oh well... it's a GREAT car and i am very happy with the purchase... my final invoice price was 28,900 with free wheel locks thrown in... i still think i got a good deal!

if anyone is interested in buying an Acura in the NJ area, i would highly recommend them... never thought i would say it but the saleperson was great along with their manager and even the finance guy... if you need more info, just let me know...

Happy Shopping! for all those still thinking about buying, oh just go do it already!

I was offered a price of $28,800 for a Pearl TL with GPS,. no wing, wood-knob, or aero-kit. Just thought any of you interested consumers were interested in-case you needed some quotes to shop around with.

    Regards,

Trying to decide which we should go with. The BMW would be a couple of $K more but it would be a 1999 or 2000 loaded model.
Any thoughts on comparing comfort, performance, reliability, maintenance costs etc. will be appreciated.
  • doopstrdoopstr Member Posts: 4
    mrk7,

I will most likely be buying from Brunswick Acura. Did $28,900 include destination? Also did you finance through them? If so what kind of rate did they offer?

    Thanks!
  • s1ginss1gins Member Posts: 51
How many of us here live in the Brunswick area? This dealership really seems to be getting a large amount of business from this board!
  • mrk7mrk7 Member Posts: 5
s1gins, i use to live in E. Brunswick... just moved to hillsborough and the sport shift really works well around these hilly areas... lets hope the traction control holds up with the first winter storm coming tonight!!!

doopstr, the 28.9 did not include destination fee... you should stop by and take a look... they have plenty of 2000 or 2001 TLs to choose from and are itching to move them out before the year closes... ask for Scott... he was my salesman... he'll treat you right... as for interest rates, that's a different story... i am a relative young buyer with no real credit history... i.e. i don't own any equity... so i got 8.15% which was still better than my credit union! go figure...? hopefully this purchase will build my credit rating...

as for accessories, nothing screamed out at me... so i went with security... free wheel locks, basic Lojack ($595) and MVID ($200 reduced from $250)... let's say i spend too much time in high risk areas! you never these days...

any other way i can help my fellow TL owners or potential buyers, let me know...

I have read some where that type s will be a package for tl for the 2002 model.
    what u guys think?
  • equalizer1equalizer1 Member Posts: 177
Kendall Park here. Only a few minutes from East Brunswick. My husband and I had a really good experience at Brunswick Acura.
  • mhammy84mhammy84 Member Posts: 167
I think Acura will wait until they redesign the TL in 2002 for an S model. Obviously, everyone expected the S model to come out for this model year (2001), and they in fact didnt do anything to it (memory seats, 6 disc changer). Now, some people have said that they wont even come out with an S package because it may steal away sales from the CL-S. However, as we have experienced earlier this year, many had said that they WOULD come out with the S package.

I have a 2000 TL w/ nav and 19,000 miles. Last week, the a/c started blowing hot air. The dealer said nothing was wrong. A 2nd trip to the dealer and again, nothing was wrong - so they said. After a 3rd trip (to another dealer this time) they discovered the wiring harness was fried somehow.

That's my only prob so far, however
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
VTec.net/news says that it would be part of 2002 package. I guess it is a very good idea to introduce TL-S when new ES300 is getting in the market. TL-S would be areal sport sedan with 18 inch wheels & 260hp with stiffer springs.

They will have to work out the numbers though. maybe 60-40 (40 for type S ??)

It is just a neccessity to put something interesting when the new ES300 comes in the market

I went and looked at '01 TL's last night. I looked under two of them and found both to have transmission oil leaks. Both of these cars had less than 25 miles on them. Is this a common problem?
  • ricnav1ricnav1 Member Posts: 1
mhammy84, you mentioned that they are redesigning the TL in 2002. Did you mean in 2001 for the model year 2002, or really in 2002? I'm not interested in the S type, just the regular model, but would probably wait for it if it's coming out next year.

    Thanks.
  • mhammy84mhammy84 Member Posts: 167
to tell you the truth, I am not really sure when the TL will be redesigned. I have failed to keep up with things in the Acura dept., especially since I have been experiencing many problems with my 97 Infiniti. My Acura's have been holding up just great, and I love to drive them. However, my 00 TL seems to be developing some strange transmission behavior. I know of many people recently on these boards who had experienced transmission problems, and I just pray that I do not fall into them. When I shift my TL from park to reverse, and if I shift to drive, and begin to move, i hear this loud snapping noise coming from underneath my car. It only snaps once. It snaps if I shift either from drive, or if I drive in reverse a little bit. Also, when I shift from reverse to drive, it takes a LOOOOONG time for the tranny to ACTUALLY shift (even though the shifter is sitting in drive). If i push the accelerator while it is "shifting," the RPMs soar, but the car doesnt move, and then there is this quick jerk into drive gear. I have seen this type of behavior only in rental Ford Taurus cars. My 01 CL does not exhibit this type of behavior.
  • mhammy84mhammy84 Member Posts: 167
After my TL warms up to normal operating temp, if I put the car into park, and get out and stand next to the trunk of the car on the driver's side, I hear this loud rapid popping noise. It has been making this noise since the day I came back from the dealer with the brand new car back in March. Does anybody else notice this noise...I think I heard a faint version of this rapid popping noise when I had a loaner (but mine seems to be louder now). Again, my 01 CL-S does not make this noise for some reason. I have reason to believe it is the exhaust system, and since the CL-S has a different system, that may explain the difference.

On another forum the following url was posted which gives inside info on the new TL, if in fact the 2002 is even called that. Thanks to eblue for providing the url.

Whoa! So they're going to come out with a NEW TL-S. I wish I could have waited for this car...with a proposed 270hp. Wow...I cant wait to see what this baby will look like. thats the benefit of owning an acura...it holds its value nicely, so that those of us who really really want the newer acuras can actually do so without losing loads of $$.

As a follow-up question to #408 (mhammy84), does anyone have info on the re-skin of the non-S TL? Will the re-skinned base '02 TL be introduced in Mar. '01, or just the new TL-S?

one of my friends has recently traded in his car for a 97 Ford Taurus SHO. And is constantly bragging bout his car. Do you think I can take him in a drag race with my 2000 3.2 TL stock ?? What chances do I have ??? how bout a CL-S ?? Is is a fair race ??
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
for a ride. with almost the same bhp & muc better xmission. TL with 225Hp should keep up with SHO easily. You will need to revv it though.
