I'm glad you found it. I could recall a lot of discussion about the defrost engaging the AC. Actually the AC probably doesn't engage below 50 to 45 degrees becasue of the pressure cutoff switch that protects from low charge. But I understand in some climates and some instances using defrost and bypassing AC cooling is desired.
I wasn't sure about defrost, but I know you can turn the AC off in the other modes. I am going to test it later though!
The rule with the AC is, if it doesn't say "AC off", then assume AC is on. There isn't a message for AC on normally.
I just turn on what I want, and push the AC button to get the AC off. That way I can get some vent air without AC, since I probably also have the moonroof open.
Often I just turn the whold thing off and use windows and roof. Plenty of air that way!
Wow... that IS a pain. I guess I should consider myself lucky to be able to turn on the fan and choose which vent (floor, dash, or windshield) to direct the air flow. I wonder if EX-L folks w/o navi can confirm whether or not they can do this. The nav touch screen is the only way I can perform this function.
I did the trick over lunch hour. It is not really a pain since it permanantly resets the A/C controls - you don't have to do it every time.
Now when I push the defog button the A/C light actually comes on, and I can then push the A/C button to turn it off. Very nice since if I do not take the action to turn off the A/C button the system works as it always has. The only extra step necessary is turning off the A/C if I want it turned off.
I am a happy camper.
This is not in the manual, just another undocumented feature that somebody found. Maybe because other markets want control of the A/C (where gas is much more expensive) the systems are flexible for more than one market.
I have the non-nav EX-L. I select the defrost setting, the system starts up with the AC on, hit the AUTO buton to turn AUTO off (the light goes out) and it keeps on without the AC running.
I'll have to try this feature y'all have discovered!
Just to make sure, you say that when I push defrost, the A/C will light up and turn on, but then I can push A/C and it will turn it off, as in my grandmother's 2002 Accord? If so, that's fantastic. Is there a way to put it back?
This will be very useful in the winter months when de-icing my windshield. You don't need A/C just to blow warm air onto the windshield! You don't WANT it either!
You got it. That is how it works. I assume doing the same procedure will put it back how it was, but I don't want it back. I suppose I could try the procedure again to see if that puts it back, although I am a little leary of messing up a good thing.
Has anybody else tried to put it back?
Cars are full of these crazy tricks these days. I was looking at the Mazda3 and you can activate the built in trip computer just by doing a series of button pushes on the stereo.
Do any of you know if I can find a way to display outside temperature and total odometer at the same time ('06 non-nav EX-L Accord)on the main dash display? I can show outside and trip odo or I can show total odo but not temp and total odo.
It can't be done. That one little thing is probably the worst design feature on the Accord. Just trying to press the button to cycle through the trip odo, temp, oil, etc is awkward.
I wanted to buy accord VP , but heard stereo is not good. LX which has 6 speakers compared to 2 speaker of VP, but it is almost 1500 dollar more. Is it possible to buy separate speaker and install them in VP. How much is the average price of installing separate speakers in accord VP
Hi asked dealer about value pack, he said he is giving discount on this one like for EX he is giving invoice of 19.399. I wanted to buy value pack or LX which is cheaper, they said they not giving discount on them and they trying to lure me to buy higer one. If they are giving invoice of 19.399k on EX, should i bargain them to give LX invoice for 17 or value pack for 16. Since my budget is limited and i dont want to stretch it.
2007 Accord EX sedan auto trans (MSRP $23,945)............................$19,399
2007 Accord EXL sedan auto trans (MSRP $25,645)..........................$20,899
2007 Accord SE V6 sedan auto trans (MSRP $23,945........................$19,399
2007 Accord EXL V6 sedan auto trans (MSRP $27,995).....................$22,899
the prices might be right for EX or SE V6, but they are priced around 19.3 . I wanted to buy car with invoice around 16-16.5 So I just wanted to know, if they can offer Ex for 19.3 is it possible to get invoice for LX in the range 16.5-17. When i asked them they said they giving discount on high end only. But I dont want to stretch budget
I really like the suspension on the accord, when test driving cars, like the Hyundai sonata, the sonata was firm, and was nice, but when I drove the accord, it was quite firm,Although sometimes too firm, especially in the city, you feel everything, and I purposely slow down, I don't want to hurt it. Which I know it won't, but still. I love it, it feels solid.
Yes it is possible to buy seperate speakers. They are very easy to install. You can order the original parts from Honda or upgrade to speakers from Crutchfield etc.
If I am able to get good speakers and able to install them on accord value pack, than I guess it is better to buy value pack and save money. The rims of value pack is not wide as LX and others, how bad is that or what is disadvantage of having less wider rims
The VP has narrower tires, and no rear anti sway bar. This will mean it does not handle quite as well, but I think the difference will be minimal.
Other differences are the two speakers you mentioned and the lack of a center armrest in the rear. It also lacks variable intermittent wipers and power rear view mirrors.
I do think the VP is the bargain of the bunch. It has the same engine/tranny and safety features. I bought the SE because my better half insisted on 4 wheel disc brakes. What could I say - I told her they were better years ago when we bought the Integra.
For what it's worth, I bought my VP last Sep and now have ~8K happy miles. We paid $16,300 before TTL.
I'm happy with the two lonely speakers. They work just fine. I never felt inadequacies regarding the lack of rear anti-sway bar, rear drums, and narrower tires (which means better mileage). My VP has all the essential safety goodies. My mileage has always ranged between 32-34 mpg with mixed driving. For the first time ever, my last tank of gas gave 28 mpg, and boy was I NOT happy.
I'd submit that almost all of the VP's shortcomings are only on paper, in realworld driving you'll never notice them, except for the speakers maybe.
One of the things I would miss if I had the VP is the center armrest. It is nice to seperate the kids in back and they get cupholders. It also has a passthough - I can (and do) buy lumber and put it in the car without having to kick out the kids and fold the whole rear seat down. Still pretty minor though.
The VP should just take away any late model used honda sales. It may not have all the features of the higher models, but it sure has more than the older ones (standard side curtains etc) and it cost less than many used Accords. I even like the VP hubcaps better than the LX.
Must be a stick with that gas mileage.
Funny how cars are marketed. The Camry CE has everything the LE has except power seats and remote entry. You sure pay quite a bit for those two items. Of course it works because plenty of people won't buy a car without keyless.
Was 16.3 out door price for stick VP. I am getting quote of 18.9 Out door for value pack automatic. dealers say if you take EX or SE V6 they can give at 21.1 OTD. seems ways of luring you away from value pack so that you would buy EX. I dont understand if EX goes for 21.1, the MSRP difference between EX and value pack is 4000 thousand dollar, than how come this dealer asking 19k for value pack and offering EX or SE v6 for 21. they say they getting 1250 dollar cash from honda for EX and SE v6 but not value pack, still 19k is high for value pack. What shoudl I do, how to make them lower their price for value pack by atleast 1000 dollar so that it reaches 18k.
$16.3K was before TTL. Out of the door price was around $17.8. So you quote wasn't too far off. Mind you my price was more than $600 below invoice because of the$750 rebate at the time. Whatever the current rebate is, shoot for invocie minus that. Good luck.
What happens to my odometer reading when I replace my instrument cluster/speedometer from a used car? Does it keep the existing odometer reading from the previous car or does it register the current odometer reading from my car? Please advise asap.............Thanks1
dealer offered 21.1 out door price for accord EX sent me email after few days just latter that invoice would be 21.7. No clue why he suddenly raised price by almost 2 thousand 500 dollar. I than talked to some other dealer, one of them offered 21.4. so much variation in price I am not sure if I would be paying right price, can anyone tell me, the average out door price for accord EX 2.4 AT in florida
From my experiences dealing with them, do not trust their quote untill you actually sit down to write up the transaction. You might have to physically go to each of them and be prepared to walk if you don't like the deal. Be careful though, not to let them make you buy from feeling guilty of wasting their time. Be mentally strong
I have just purchased a 2007 Accord V6. The external tempature reads about 15 degrees less than the actual outside tempapure always. I have always been told these tempature gauges read hotter than the actual temp. IS this a common problem on Honda with the tempature reading 15 to 20 degress under the actual outsdie tempature.
I've found the external temp on my 04 EX-L matches my outdoor thermometer. There is an adjustment you can make (see the car manual) but I'm not sure you can offset a 15-20 degrees error. The external temp reading is slow to react to temp changes, so if you pull out of a colder garage to a warmer outside, you will see an error for a while.
thanks a lot, since i am requesting quote from different dealers and I made them know this, now one dealer is offering for 21k , another said you get me that quote i would lower it by 300 dollar, hope they honour what they say, I have their emails for proof and quote of who sent wat
You're quite welcome. Please let us know how it turns out. I was surprised by how deceitful and manipulative the people in the car business can be. But I did have a wonderful exepience with a Nissan Salesman who was honest and genuinely respectful. He was a christian though and planned to become a pastor, which explained it.
Here's our Accord-buying story. When we bought our Accord last year, I wanted to get a loan from Capitalone online but didn't get a chance to get the pre-approval before going in the dealership. Capitalone had the lowest rate at the time. The salesman was professional and respectful, and the finance manager was initially friendly cracking jokes with our children and all. But as soon as I asked "could we come back in a couple of days to close the deal so we can get the loan from Capitalone". His attitude turned 180 degrees "We've spent so much time with you, and you don't even have the integrity to respect us enough to take a loan 0.2% higher?" I was absolutely shocked and infuriated. Where I come from, you don't use that language on your enemies, let alone your customers! But being the gentleman that I was, I didn't say anything and took their loan. I'd rather pay more to get out of that place asap. There's absolutely no point of arguments with one who is willing to stoop that low. Experiences like this don't do much to bolster one's faith in humanity.
Sorry for you discomfort,T. Always be prepared to politely say the magic words. "I'm sorry, that's all I can pay today." Push your chair back, thank them for their time, getup and walk to your car and leave. If they don't catch up to you on the way to the car with a better offer they will be telephoning in a day or two. Just the way the game is played.
Yeah I know. I made a few mistakes on that purchase that I warned others not to. For one, shouldn't have taken the family; two, should've gotten the financing in place before showing up on a whim. In the end, I just didn't think saving less than $100 was worth all the aggravations of confronting him, especially with the kids getting impatient already. If I were alone, I probably would've responded differently.
Reminds me of buying a 72,000 mile used Integra at night. Woke up in the morning and found all the key scratchs on the driver's side but was too young and stupid to do anything about it....
Tamu- the important thing is that you don't go back to that dealer and you tell everyone you run across about the experience you had. A regular customer is worth upwards of $250,000 in a lifetime, the dealership pays in the long run as long as you spread the word.

Those are great things for the next purchase. I took my wife the last time... need I say more?
My wife hates to car shop. Whenever we need to buy another car I do all the research online beforehand, I narrow my choices to 2 or 3 vehicles and I take my wife along. After the first 30 minutes she'll tell the salesguy that he's giving her a headache and we need to visit 2 more dealerships and that we need to leave. We usually get a pretty good price after that. We actually had one salesman tell us that he was getting married in 2 weeks and we were affecting his future happiness by insisting on a lower price--read lower commission. My wife told him real relationships are not based on expensive honeymoons and that he had to learn to live on less $$$. I like taking my wife along and would not dream of closing a deal without her.
I negotiated online for my Accord. When I showed up for the car it took about 10 minutes to purchase. I signed 2 checks and two forms that were already prepared.
They did not ask if I wanted the warrenty or anything - I didn't. They did not even call my bank. Of course this is SD (Vern Eide) where trust goes a long way.
I had a similar experience. I used a one-simple-price dealership, their price was exactly what I was prepared to pay. I pre-approved from my bank at a rate that I was happy with and had the check in hand. I did the research on my trade-in and knew the range that I was willing to accept. They came within that range and we were done. Took no more than one hour (including trade) and never a single point of disagreement.
I think the real secret is to have the entire scenario worked out. Know the product you are interested in, know the price that you deem to be the one you are willing to pay, know the price you are willing to accept for your trade (if you have one), accept no additional costs other than the car - if you want an extended warranty etc you have @6,0000miles to get one, and do not move off your decisions. It makes it easier for you and easier for the dealership. They may want to get every ounce they can out of a sale but would rather make the sale fast.

Yes, it's a stick shift. At $16,300, how can anyone go wrong with this Accord?

What are you comparing it against? Are you using a thermometer right next to the sensor or are you going by a bank sign or the radio?
