I have looked several times through the owners manual, and i can not find it anywhere, how to turn off the Maintenence Light....someone help me please! I turned it off once before, and I have tried to push on the reset button, and then turning ignition, but that didnt work...

Today a new Corolla pulled up beside me, and I was amazed at how tall the body was. Basically, it looked like someone took the new Camry and squished it a bit. Not too pleasing to the eye, but looks are subjective.

And I thought the Acura RSX looked too tall...
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
Your description of the Corolla was bang-on. I think the stubbiness of the RSX makes it look tall. Honda should have stretched it out a bit. Now it looks like a tall CRX.

I like the current trend in making cars taller, with more headroom. I'm 6'3" and there are too many cars that I can't fit in without my head rubbing on the roof.

I would love to get a sports car like a Miata, MR2, S2000 or Z3, but I'm looking straight into the top of the windshield frame in a convertable and need a several inch bump in the roof in a coupe.

    Any sports cars with headroom?

Those goofy headroom bumps in the roof should help. :)

    to reset maintenance light
you should have the car turn off
then hit reset button and keep on pressing
then while pressing, turn the ignition key to II position (position before you start the engin
in 10 sec. you'll see the maintenance light blinking and then you can release the reset button
and the maintenance light should be off
    hope this will help

From an article in USA Today:

"American Honda is becoming a Honda like no other.

It has given loose rein to planners and designers not long out of college, letting them poke around in parts of the market where no Honda has gone before... It has told stylists to jazz up its stodgy Accord, the franchise car."

    Here's the link

So maybe the assumption of a fairly conservative next gen Accord won't prove out after all. I really hope Motor Trend's article is close to the truth... I'd hate to see them look like the cars in those photos that have been floating around... boring, boring, boring!

My local dealer, Hendrick Honda just quoted me $18,600 for an Accord SE and yesterday they quoted me only $16,600 for a Civic EX automatic. According to Edmunds the invoice price for an Accord SE is like $19.3k which means the quote I recieved is $700 BELOW invoice. It almost sounds too good to be true. What do you guys think?
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
Sounds like factory to dealer incentives to get rid of 2002's.

...are out there. Off and on from now to the end of the model run, expect lots of low advertised prices, at or well below invoice. Honda doesn't do rebates, but it does slip the dealers money when the marketing gurus decide it's time, and now seems to be the time.

Just bought an EX 6 cyl for $440 below invoice. The dealer made it a real pain to get there but they finally agreed. The deal on my tradein came in about $50 below Edmunds estimate. The Honda is a great value for the money with all the features of a much more up-market vehicle. I wish they would put more sound insulation material in the vehicle however. The noise level is too high for a modern car.

Hi.. I've been keeping up with the new 2003 accord posts, but I am not sure if anyone has posted information about safety features. Does anyone know if side air bags (including curtain or head) will be offered? Will it have 4 rotors? especially on the 4cyl model.. well, thanks in advance for any info.. sorry if someone already posted..
  • spitaljaspitalja Member Posts: 2
Please let me know where I can find pictures (drawings are fine) of the new Accord. Does anyone have price ranges?
  • fosterphxfosterphx Member Posts: 9
What does it take to replace the matte black plastic climate control/radio surround? Honda should have used the same wood grain plastic material for this part that is used on the console.
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
We've only had our '02 SE-V6 for about 1 week. Aside from the subpar fit and finish, the one thing that has struck me is the incredibly flimsy feeling door handles. They're made of plastic, very light and appear that it wouldn't take much force to rip off of the doors! Maybe they are stronger than they look. Anyone else have this same impression? My brother has a '98 and I don't recall finding his door handles so light and flimsy. Did Honda change the door handles at some point?
  • ickes_mobileickes_mobile Member Posts: 675
I don't know, the car in the pictures has enough "Honda" elements to make me fear the worst... that the car pictured could in fact be... no say it isn't so... yes, the '03 Accord.

I suggest this because one of the car sketches in MT are the same as some German magazine had in a story about the new Euro/JDM car. The sketches in MT are also very similar to the ones Mag-X has been showing with deals for the JDM car.

If this in fact turns out to be true (please, please, please, lets hope not) then pray that the JDM/Euro car makes it here as an Acura as rumored.

i dont see why it wouldnt have side airbags available since it came standard on 2002 EX's. 4 rotors? i think you mean 4 wheel disc brakes, those were also offered on 02's on EX's. so it should come up with 03's as well.
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
And 4 rotors. Maybe he meant 4-channel ABS?
  • dragonfiredragonfire Member Posts: 39
i know the side air bags were offered as an option, but without head support. I do hope that the side curtain air bags will be available..

as for the 4 wheel disc brakes (thanks for the correction), i hope they become standard on the LX too.. 4 channel ABS ould also be nice... thanks

    Hi,

I am planning a road trip to Canada and am a bit worried about what I read in my Accord Owners Manual about Canadian gas additives. The manual states that Canadian gas may contain MMT, an octane enhancing additive, which will adversely affect the emmissions system leading to the "engine malfunction" light to come on.

So, what should I do to avoid these problems? Should I avoid certain gas companies, etc..? Maybe our Canadian members can help me out. Thanks.
  • th83th83 Member Posts: 164
is available at your dealer and there is a piece made for the HVAC/audio surround. I hope this helps...
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
I'd bet the 2003 Accord offers 4 wheel disc brakes as standard- they are on the Altima models and all Camry V6 models, plus XLE and SE 4cylinders, making the LE 4 the only one with out all discs. I think it would be a smart move for Honda to "one-up" Toyota by offering all wheel discs on the volume selling LX (and higher) models, forming a comparative advantage against the Camry LE 4cly.

I have '98 Accord and '00 Maxima. One time I lost my gas cap for Accord (don't ask me on this one). Car was on warranty - get down to Miller Honda in Van Nuys, CA. First what Service Advisor did look for my gas cap. And sure enough, I don't have the cap. He sad that first time it cover by warranty, next time I will pay $75
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
Sorry, but I haven't heard about that being a potential problem. I think though that Canadian-spec cars have emission standards on a par, if not stricter, than most states. So if the gas up here doesn't affect our cars, US ones should be fine too. But I'm just thinking out loud here. I don't know the technical details.

    Hi guys,

I recently got a 2002 Accord EX V6. I am enjoying the car but the gas pedal seems pretty stiff and does require a lot of effort in pushing it ... Perennial question ... is this a bug or a feature?
The car has about 500 miles ... should I give it some more time or should I take it to the dealer immediately?

    Thanks!

My 00' Accord (EX) has 54k miles on it. I have managed to kill the battery 3 times in the last year- key in ignition, etc. I leave my head lights on all of the time, and within 20 minutes of leaving the ignition on (had car washed)it didn't want to crank- click, click. It is a 5 speed, so I popped the clutch, and it started right away. This has happened several times too. It always starts when I pop the clutch. Is it time to replace the battery, or could there be a short somewhere? I am not adverse to a new battery; this one is 2 1/2 years old, and has alot of highway miles on it. Any opinions? Thanks in advance!
  • diploiddiploid Member Posts: 2,286
I think it's so odd that my Civic sends an annoying shrill when you forget to turn the lights off, and yet our family's more expensive Accord doesn't offer this useful feature.
  • fedlawmanfedlawman Member Posts: 3,118
My '93 Accord chimes if the headlights are on when the key is removed from the ignition.

It has saved me more than a few times since my Buick has automatic lights.
  • bolivarbolivar Member Posts: 2,316
If your battery has been 'killed', deeply discharged 3 times, then you definitely need a new battery.

'Sealed' batterys, ones you cannot add water to, will usually recharge to only about 80% after being totally discharged.

If you discharged yours 3 times, you are lucky it ever retained a charge after the 3rd time.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
Yes Accord has a mcuh stiffer & LINEAR gas & brake pedal. THis results in predictable behaviour. On the highways you can maintain speed without cruise control.

ALL Accord trims have lights/key alarms etc.

Will come with 60,000 mile warranty like other cars?

My neighbor said he heard that yesterday when he was at Honda.

    Anyone else hear this?

i saw it on tv commercial once, claim to clean your car's engine. sounds pretty good, but has anyone ever tried it?
  • beachnutbeachnut Member Posts: 291
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendation or good experiences with a specific brand? I would like one that's relatively easy on/off and well padded to protect paint.

man, that was really scary, thank you very much for informing me. i can't believe the tv station is still running those ads, well i guess they will do anything for money :(.

I'm guessing there isn't much difference between '00 and '02, but I too would like something that would help prevent rock chips on the hood. I've seen the plastic ones. I've also seen the bra-type ones. And I think I remember reading something about a thin plastic film that covers the entire hood. Any opinions anyone? Thanks!
  • ravynravyn Member Posts: 101
yes they will prevent stone chips, but you MUST keep them clean, and don't let them sit on your car too long after a rain... moisture for long periods of time + paint = bad. i generally put mine on AFTER the bad spring pollen.. i hate having to clean it every few days when i put it on during.

i also have the oem full nose mask. =)
  • ickes_in_mnickes_in_mn Member Posts: 40
Make sure they are really tight too because if they move in the wind they can rub the paint off...
  • beachnutbeachnut Member Posts: 291
I'm guessing that you purchased your oem mask from the dealer? Do you remember how much you paid? I wonder if the oem version is better than any aftermarket ones. Like ickes said, they need to be real tight, and it seems as if the manufacturers who make these things to fit every type of car possible are often lacking in true-fit.

I called the dealer a few days ago, the dealer's open price is $23500 no options ,includes destination charge, no ad fee. only extra charge he said was a $50 documantation fee.
the only dealer option I want is mud guard and he said is about $120.

what do you guys think is a reasonable price for a EX V6? how low can I probably get?

    Thanks

the transmission shifts from 2nd to 1st at about 2 or 3mph, which is almost at a fully stop. and i've ONLY found this happening to MYSELF, all other cars i drive shifts from 2nd to 1st around 10mph, my previous car did the exact same thing, it seems to have something to do with the way i drive, but i've driving for yrs and i really can't find out exactly WHAT I DID to make the car do this. the transmission works quite well other than this one thing. which i've been having ever since i learned how to drive. and it only happens to my cars.
i mean, does anybody else have this kind of thing going on? and what can i do to make my car run like a normal one? i mean, jeez, what did i do?
and it's not that i drive fast, it doesn't matter if i'm braking from 40mph in 10ft from the light or 10mph in 10ft. it does the same thing, it's not about the speed. i really need to make the car downshift 10mph earlier.
my previous car was a used one, and the transmission worked fine juz like others UNTIL I BECAME THE OWNER. AH ~~~~~~
    any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just paid $23,300, without really haggling. You should be able to go at least as low as invoice with some negotiating (which I didn't do).
  • fritz1224fritz1224 Member Posts: 398
I have a v6 2k accord and it shifts exactly as you describe. This is the way honda designed it to do. Apparently, they feel this provides a better(less noticeable) downshift to first if the car is barely moving. I had to get used to it, but there isn't anything wrong. The only time I find this somewhat irritating is during a "rolling stop" where I have almost come to a complete stop but then have to continue moving. There is a noticable jerk because the tranny is still in second and upshifts to third I think.

How often do you take your accords in for a tune up? I have a used '93 accord and want to get an idea of tune up intervals from fellow accord owners. Thanks
  • acu94acu94 Member Posts: 1
I am looking to purchase a 2001 Accord Copue with a supposed 2900 miles on it.... I was wondering if it is possible the current owner could have tampered with the Odometer just because the mileage is so low....is it possible to do this on the accord, and if so how might i be able to check for this....thanks....
  • letsrockletsrock Member Posts: 74
If it's only got that few miles, it should be almost like a brand new car. Does the rest of the car bear that out? How about the condition and smell of the interior? How clean is the underside? Do the wheelwells still have that shiny black factory coating, etc, etc? I actually doubt that an owner would be dumb enough to purposely roll back the odometer to that low because unusually low mileage like that raises a red flag with most potential buyers.
  • subzero206subzero206 Member Posts: 111
get the vin # and check CARFAX
  • cokane5227cokane5227 Member Posts: 117
thanks for the advice, i guess this is one of the few places honda needs improvements on. in my personal opinion, honda transmissions aren't really that great, but they work fine.
well, i'll just get used to it then.
  • beachnutbeachnut Member Posts: 291
I second what subzero said about the carfax report. I've used it before and found it very informative and well worth the money. I seriously doubt if the odometer has been rolled back. It would take a knowledgeable (and very dishonest) person to tamper with a digital indicator. I also don't find it hard to believe that an '01 has only 2,900 miles. The previous owner may have been retired or a stay-at-home mom who never had to drive very often.
