Just wanted to say that I have driven only 2440 miles in my 2001 (April) Accord LXV6. This is because I live in New York City, where most people go to work by public transport and use their cars only on weekends. Also I tend to use my old car ('88 Accord LX) in the city. Hope this reassures you that low mileage is possible.

If a used car has high miles the shoppers don't want it. If the miles are unusually low then they are suspecious that something is wrong.

My advise? If you are leary of the car, do not buy it. I would bet the miles are real, however.

But, by this time, that low mile car has probably been snapped up by someone more trusting.

I've '98 Accord EX also, and leave the lights on forever. It has a chime to remind of the headlamp which I ignore, since in about 15s after locking the car, the lights go off automatically.

I replaced the battery last year at about 55K miles.

Its drawn by the same guy who did the sketch of the Accord in the May MT. Looks pretty similar, uh. The similarity reminds me of all the sketches that would appear of future mini or crossover SUVs for different brands. Whether for BMW, VW, Ford, GM or whoever, they all had similar style to a Volvo XC90. Its an example of how these sketches can be misleading.

I wonder how many people have COMPLETE trust in the headlights to turn themselves off. I basically just treat the auto-off feature as a safety net in case I forget to turn off the lights. Otherwise I might be inclined to stand there and look at it for 15 sec until they turn off

Yes, too bad it won't be part of the US lineup; they're convinced we only want SUVs and minivans. Mazda has committed to both a 5-door hatch sedan and a wagon for the new 6 lineup in the USA, but not in the first year of production...probably as 2004 models.

Is fake. It is unpredecented where we see artistic pictures of the upcoming model, and then an actual prototype picture is snapped. It did not happen with the redesigned Civic, the CR-V, and the Acura RSX.

If you zoom in on the image of the silver wagon (second picture), the logo on the rear door looks like a Toyota emblem! Am I seeing things here??

The sketch of the Accord wagon has been around since last fall. Whether it is representative of the actual car is anybody's guess. If anything, it is the JDM/European design. TOV says this car will be here as the entry level Acura sedan. Maybe they bring the wagon too in order to match the IS300, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, and Volvo V40.

I'm looking into buying a 2002 Honda Accord Coupe SE 4-cylinder auto which stickers for CDN $25800 . The dealer offered me CDN $28900 on the road (including tax). Is this a fair price? I'd appreciate a prompt feedback since I'd like to make the purchase before the end of the April when the 4.8%/60 month finance rate is supposed to expire.

What's the provincial sales tax in Ontario? 7%?
Assuming it is 7% then the dealer is giving you about $1400 - $1500 off MSRP which by my calculation is about $100 or so over invoice. That's a pretty good deal.

Actually, sales tax in Ontario is 15% (GST + PST). So I guess that makes it more of a good deal, right? I guess the dealer markup is more than $1400-1500, though. Otherwise, they're selling me the car below invoice. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I was using 14% GST & Prov SS combined. So if it is 15% then the discount would be about $1700 if you factor in the doc fee etc, which would be included in the "out the door" price. I actually forgot about the $100 air tax which should also be included in the "out the door" price, so that would make the discount about $1800. Considering the markup in Canada on the Accord is only 6%, that's a really good deal. Honda had a dealer cash rebate of $500 thru to April 1, so I'm wondering if perhaps that has been extended to enable the dealer to offer you this deal. Otherwise they would be selling below invoice, which is almost unheard of in Canada for an import.

I too have been following the rumors of the '03 Accord Wagon because I own a 1992 Accord Wagon with 181,000 miles.

Staying with tradition, if Toyota comes out with a wagon, Honda is sure to follow the next year with a competing vehicle.

Perhaps it's best to see what moves Toyota makes rather than what Honda will do. I just hope they do bring back the wagon!!! It's the best of the best.

By the way, my dealer says "no way!!" will they bring back the wagon...they couldn't give them away in '97. I say that talk ain't worth doodly-squat!!!

I am a first time Honda buyer on a budget. I have a couple questions:

1. What is the difference between the LX (4 cyl) and the Accord Value Package to justify the 3000 dollar price difference, other than power windows and cruise control. All other specs seem the same.

2. Do you recommend installing power windows and doors on the Value Package (honda does not do this) so I would go to an outside person?

3. Is the dealership processing charge negiotiable?

If you look at the ads in your local Sunday newspaper, there should be some with the LX selling for less than $17K, depending on which area you are in. At that price you only save $1K or so by getting the Accord Value Package. In my opinion, having power windows, and the seat height adjuster in the LX are a must. I think the VP also has a less powerful engine. You cannot get anyone to install power windows for you. Regardless of what the dealership "processing" charge is, don't pay more than $17K total for the LX auto, before taxes. The processing charge is just added profit for the dealer.

I'm guessing that Honda is likely to first introduce a vehicle to compete with the likes of the Toyota Matrix and Mazda Protege5. This could be the Civic 5 door, which actually has more leg room than the current Accord. Honda won't bring in the Accord wagon until the wagon market is firmly established. That could happen when the next generation Accord is introduced in 2007.

Drove both cars. Camry ride is softer, quieter and a little more power. Accord SE can be leased for $245 36m/12k with $1500 down. Camry does not offer any lease prices to touch this. Is this because Accord has a much higher resale since it is not sold as rental cars? Seems Accord is a much better value. SE has Moonroof, Alloys, cd etc. I presume the new 2003 Accord will match up to the new Camry both in ride quality and price.

right now is that the 2002 Accord is a close-out model and the Camry is all new and selling very well without special incentives. However, as a number of recent comparisons in MT and Car&Driver hightlight, the Accord is better than most of its competition and at least competitive with Camry. I know that I wouldn't trade our '01 EX 4cyl.-5spd. for a Camry...

Regarding the link for the '03 press preview. The date means that it won't appear in any of the magazines until August or September. Its likely to embargoed from publication by any of the wesb sites or daily news outlets. Anyone here live in Hollywood and have a digital camera?

I hope the coupe favors the new Civic coupe, but NOT the sedan! The Civic coupe looks great IMO, but the sedan looks very bland.

I read your post #3607 and totally agree with you. I am also 6'3" and have wanted a fund to drive affordable sports car all my life and have never fit in one until I tried the Acura RSX. It may not be the best sports car out there, but it is not too shabby for the price and best of all I can fit in it. I plan to buy one soon.

And I am betting [99.99%] that there will be no wagon - this continues to be a pipe dream of folks in the North American market. I would love to see it, but it simply WILL NOT happen as long as the marketing types perceive our market to be one for SUVs, minivans, and the new magic word, "Crossovers". A straight wagon on an otherwise sedan-bodied car is believed to be a non-starter in the current market. So whether you are waiting for Toyota or Honda to take the lead, forget it....the actual lead in this class apparently will come from Mazda - they will introduce both 5door hatch and conventional wagon using the new 6 body, but not before the '04 model year. So the observation that Honda MIGHT do something about this with the next-next gen Accord, i.e. MY 2008, is much more likely than anything sooner.

available with ABS or only with Side Airbags? That would be another difference btwn the Camry and Accord, supratoy. We have an 02 Camry LE and really love it- much better overall package than our 00 LE. But... that is an OUTSTANDING lease value, and the Accord is a great car. Like you said, Accord has higher resale value, but end of design model year has more to do with the low low price, IMO. I'd jump on the Accord lease if I were you, though for now I think the Camry has the edge. The only 4clyinder comparo I've seen was in the Jan 02 issue of Consumer Reports. You might want to check it out.

If you want a wagon, Honda wants you to buy a CR-V or a Pilot. Toyota wants you to buy a Highlander. So, I too doubt that there will be an Accord wagon. The only hope is that they do bring the JDM/Euro Accord here as a Acura. They are planning a wagon variant of that car, so it might appear as part of the Acura line-up. This would compete with the niche oriented wagons from Europe and the IS300.

I do intend to look at the new Mazda6 5-door. I think that is a "crossover" that has some appeal. Especially given that Mazda appears to be following Nissan Altima's lead towards performance oriented models.

As for press information, it normally takes the car magazines two months to get stories to press. That's why info on the Detroit auto show doesn't appear on your door step until March.

Another aside; Has anyone else noticed an off-set in the angle of the steering column to the dash board in your Accord? We were drivng home the other night and it seems to be that the steering column is angled so that it points out towards the left front wheel. The tach seems farther away than the fuel/temp gauges and the odometer isn't centered in the wheel. I know this is weird, but it kind of bugs me now that I noticed it.

I am in a similar position as you at 6'2" and have also been considering the RSX. As to your comment:

I would say that (arguably) it is- with all things considered, and at its price point, despite what all the naysayers will tell you.

I wanted to wait and see what the '03 Accord coupe was going to offer but am thinking I may just go ahead and get the RSX. Especially if the "performance" model (Acd.coupe) isn't going to be released until six months after the sedan, and considering that its price will be non- negotiable for, well, probably a year anyway I figure I may as well enjoy the RSX for a couple of years and IF the Accord coupe is worthy then take the jump when dealers are more inclined to haggle.

I don't know if you've driven the RSX, but to me it's excessively noisy. Not surprising for a Honda, but unexpected for an Acura. I've never understood why Honda has zero interest in damping road noise on their vehicles.

If you can tolerate the noise level, the RSX is a terrific car/value.

Yeah, I have driven the RSX, and there is a significant amount of road noise. Though I understand this to be largely due to the stock tires more than anything else,(which I would swap out in a second) from a wind/isolation point of view I think it is pretty good.

no, alpha01 the SE is not available with side airbags or ABS. Drums and disc combo. Wood sunroof and alloys but the heck with the safety stuff. I agree the edge is with the camry but the value sure does beckon. I would prefer to get ABS and air bags though.

A couple of Honda dealers in the Phoenix area are advertising Accord SE's for $18,660 AND $18,770. I am sure this is w/o the side airbags though. Still a great price. Probably could offer $225 more and get one with side airbags. NO ABS, but lots of other great stuff. The alloy wheels look sharp as well. One thing to consider...ABS brakes may be more expensive to repair if something goes wrong. A friend of mine just paid over $900 to have her ABS brakes on her 96 Accord EX repaired. Not exactly sure what the problem was or weather or not she was taken to the cleaners.

If you are taking into account the possible and variable repair cost for ABS, you should also take into acccount the possible and variable repair cost to fix your car should you, for example, skid into the rear of another car on a rainy, foggy day, becaue you don't have ABS and can't steer to avoid. "Six of one, half dozen of another" IMO. I'd prefer to risk the repair of the brakes.

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised at how quiet our '02 Accord V6 is. It rides on Bridgestone Turanzas and so far no much road noise. Wind and engine noise also seem to be quite muted up to about 65 mph. I don't even have to adjust the stereo volume going from city speed to highway speed.

We were driving our EX home the other night during a snow storm (its Minnesota) and the noise from snow thrown against the underside of the car or the back of the front wheel wells was surprising.

We also still have a problem with the front door bailies and wind noise. THe car is due for an oil change soon so hopefully we can have them fixed.

I think the trade off for a more 'connected' feel with the road is increased interior noise. But trust me, as loud as the Accord can get, its interior noise level is far more acceptable than my 99 Civic.

has anyone upgraded their headlights system to HID? i don't by changing the bulbs, i mean the whole system upgrade, if anyone did, how did it work out? and how does it compare to those ones that come standard on TLs and CLs?
how about the installation? is it very complicated? any suggestions? because i already ordered the HID conversion kit online.

OK, To begin with, like most of you, I was under the impression that HONDA makes excellent cars. I was wrong. I purchased a 2001 Accord EX and it has about 16000 miles on it.I hear a thumping noise and took the car to the dealer. Dealer feels that the transmission has to be replaced!! Has anyone else had a similar experience ?

does anybody here know how to adjust the headlight aiming on accords? mine is 2002. i couldn't find it in the owner's manual. my previous car was a mitsubishi, and it was the easiest thing i had to do with cars, i just had to play around with some screws located around the back of the light system. but i can't seem to find anything like that on my accord. is there a possible way to adjust the aiming by myself? if so, how to do it? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Headlight Aiming
The headlights were properly aimed when your car was new. If you regularly carry heavy items in the trunk or pull a trailer, readjustment may be required. Adjustment of the headlights should be performed by a Honda technician or other qualified mechanic.

I was looking at College Hills Honda's web site and noticed a new picture to the left of their link for "2003 and Beyond". If you right click on the picture in IE, and click "Save Picture as...", you'll notice the picture has a title of "03ACCORD".

This picture is unlike any "preview/spy" pictures I've seen to date. The front end looks quite similar to the new Acura RSX, but with a different grill and under bumper treatment.

Could this be the first "REAL" picture of the new Accord?????
