My husband and I got a Stratosphere Mica Sienna XLE Limited a month ago and we love it. My husband is a computer freak and when he heard about having a GPS Navigation System in the van, he quickly checked off the option box for it. That came with a DVD player and a rear camera for looking backwards when backing. That plus the Park-Assist Sonar system which beeps when I get too close something while backing.
We got the XLE Limited for about $38,000 after the dealer took 1K off. The Dealer was Route 22 Toyota in Hillside, NJ. They were extremly kind to us since we were purchasing from them a 2nd time (We got a brand new Camry XLE V6 in 1995 & back then they were very curtious to us and we got a lot of extras).
The only thing I can complain is when we got the DVD-Based Navigation System, the standard JBL Premium Sound System with 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer was replaced with the same system but it had a single-disc feed. Toyota told me it was because of the Navigation system that it didn't have room for a CD Changer. Although I do like the fact that the CD Player and the Cassete player and hidden behind the Nav System. And the Nav System tilts down to reveal it. Also the standard HID Lights aren't self leveling but we have to do it manually.
We didn't even had to wait. My husband went out to the dealer on Saturday. And the van was sitting outside my driveway on Monday.
Do you think I was stupid to buy a 2004 Sienna? Because I was afraid that the 2005 Sienna will be different; i.e. maybe different fascias or some added amenities to the car. Does anyone know if the 2005 Sienna is staying the same until 2006 or will it be changed? I am thinking it would stay like this until Sept. of 2006.
I use the Camry as a reference:
3rd Gen: Introduced in 1992
Coupe added in 1993
Minor Interior Adjustments in 1994
Redesigned front and rear fascias for 1995
Leather Option package offered on LE Models, other wise nothing more- 1996
4th Gen: Introduced in 1997
Front & Rear Fascias changed for 2000
Collector's Edition came out somewhere in between 2000- 2002
5th Gen: Introduced in late September, 2002 as early 2003 model
Foglamps added to XLE model grade as standard Equipment-2003
Limited Edition introduced, Revised LE alloy wheels, Revised engine for LE V6 & XLE V6, new 3.3L V6 for SE.
I guess there wouldn't be much of a difference....?

I noticed that in OK, we pay car tax at the tag agency. So when we buy cars, the car dealers don't charge us tax, so our OTD price is not the same as other states like TX, etc.
Right?
But I think you got a great deal--almost $3K off MSRP.
How much was your total price including OTD plus Tax, Title, and Tag?
Andrewtran71,
Sorry for the delay in responding, but I have been swamped and have not had an opportunity to check the forum as often as I would like.
You are correct regarding the difference between OK and other states and how they handle the payment of the tax, title, and tag for a new vehicle (varies from state to state).
Personally, I think the best way to determine how good a price a person gets on a new Sienna is without including the tax, title, and tag. While these tax related items do factor into the actual cost of ownership they can vary widely depending upon where you live. The tax, title, and tag fees are fixed expenditures determined by each state and not the car dealers themselves.
Regarding your second question, the Tag Agency said we should receive the original title by certified mail, and then we can proceed with the payment of the other items. Until then I am in the dark as much as you are.
Is this good quote?
Your Sienna Limited cost you about $33,200, assuming $100 for fees. Thus I would estimate your tax to be $1,079 and therefore your Out-The-Door final cost to be $33,300 + $1,079 + $11 + $85 = $34,475.
But yeah, I agree with you that the best price is determined by how much you got off MSRP since the state excise tax in Texas is twice that of Oklahoma and California is almost 3 times that of Oklahoma.
In other words, if we got $3K off MSRP in Oklahoma and someone from California got $3K off MSRP, it means we paid about $2K less "out-the-door".
What size screens are you getting for what price?
just for a $500 scobble! If they sold it to me it would have saved them $$, but no!!! Just just care about getting high $$ return per vehicle.
Mileage: 10
Stock Number: 41721
VIN: 5TDZA22CX4S102559
What do you think about turn rate now??
Just a bogus concept to keep dealer happy about why they turn down fair deals!

he told me it would sell for his price within a week...
...it's still there, and was it worth it?
i told you though that i was playing the waiting game on the 05 Ody.
i would like to see this minivan before i make my move...

I like the interior, but the exterior has got to go.
I prefer the Sienna's exterior looks over the ASM.
I would believe most people these days would want a dvd in the minivan. I just think a factory installed Dvd would be less of a headache than some guy ripping through the roof and side player to put in an aftermarket.
I'll be buying in a week or two. Has anyone bought a package with a DVD installed from the factory yet??
Audiovox makes the DVDs Toyota installs. An advantage of the factory install is that it will sit higher in the ceiling, which will cause less interference with your rear view mirror when it is dropped down. Also it will be truly integrated with your audio system. The rear seat audio functions will be there and the DVD audio can be controlled by the buttons on the steering wheel as well as the front stereo unit.
Audiovox [and many others] makes all in one overhead dropdown units of various sizes. Typically your choices will be screen sizes of 7, 9, or 10 inches. The factory installed screen is 7 inches. The factory installed screen seems like it will not hang as low as an aftermarket 7 inch screen. The bigger the screen the lower it will hang and the more it will interfere with your rear view when flipped down. Often the aftermarket players will offer TV, although the TV signal is typically best when the van is stationary. They may offer an FM tuner, or create an opportunity to integrate a sattellite radio system.
An aftermarket install will usually use an FM modulator to play sound over the car speakers [most units will also have 1/8" wired headphone jacks and will broadcast an infrared (wireless) audio signal]. Enabling the FMM requires flipping a switch [either a hard wired switch or one on the DVD remote] and then setting the radio receiver to a particular channel. After that the volume can be controlled normally. A slight difference from total integration with the factory unit.
Some aftermarket DVD installs will remove the Rear Seat audio functonality. We really enjoy having the RSA function, which essentially allows the passengers to [control and] listen by headphone to a different audio source than is being played over the car speakers. Even if the RSA functions are saved, an aftermarket install will never be truly integrated with the RSA as a factory install would be.
Audiovox does sell a console that is customized for the Sienna that will allow you to keep the rear seat audio functionality and hold the DVD drop down player. It is molded in either Stone or Fawn color and makes the install integrate well with the van. Even so you have to remember that both the RSA and the DVD may broadcast over the same wireless channel, so some thought must be given to which sources can be played and how. Using the wired headphone jacks would allow each source to be heard. Some DVD players can broadcast over two separate wireless channels; two channel wireless headphones are available.
Theoretically the Front unit could be playing a CD/Tape/AM/FM over the car speakers, the RSA could be playing an alternative CD/TAPE/AM/FM source over the wired headphones and the aftermarket DVD player could be playing a DVD/CD/MP3/radio/TV source over wired headphones. Some dancing might allow both the RSA and DVD to broadcast wirelessly without overlapping.
Confused? Try explaining it to your spouse....

Please keep giving up information. Its very informative.
I also did not get much help from the sales staff about the operation of the DVD player. We figured it out on our own during the test drive (w/o a salesperson along for the ride).
Good luck - I am not positive on my figures, but maybe someonelse can answer also. Edmunds has a section on car buying tips.
Lets hope the dealer sticks to his agreement
Here are the best lines I got during my searching
“MSRP nothing less. I have came down $1000.00 to get to MSRP. On the lot we have them listed for $1000.00 over MSRP and we can not keep them in stock.”
"Now is a great time. We have not had a 2004 Sienna on the lot for sale for a long time. We keep one to drive but it is not for sale at this time."
I guess I will cross my fingers...
You either shell out the $$$ or go way out of state...
Any one know how well dealers will stick to their internet quotes? Do they just low ball you to get you in the store.. or do you find hundreds of other charges once you get there... Or do most dealers stick to their prices?
Stick to your guns folks.
dealer in the western suburb of Chicago is
ELGIN Toyota in Elgin. I had a very good experience with them. I called them on the phone and made an offer, and I received an answer right away. Also, I did not finance the van through the bank or dealership.
Can you please tell us what was the MSRP on that and how much you paid. Plus if you can mention what option it has besides HO package. I am looking for the same with Z1 package. Any help would be appreciated.
Krystal
For LE package#1 including Carpets and Toyoguard plus , I ended up paying $23,800 before taxes, tags and docs.
Did anyone else buy same package at better price recently ????
IF this deal ever closes, we'll be happy to share the dealer/internet experience. However, it's been 2 months and even though supply is supposed to be getting better, we're still not even at a build date... any thought from others OR others looking in Colorado?
I am in San Francisco, California. The dealer is City Toyota in Daly City. It is dealer's allocation, to be delivered in mid to late March. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I did this entirely through e-mail. Paid the $500 with credit card. Received the detailed confirmation via e-mail too.
Now I start to worry that when I finally go down to the dealership to take delivery and sign the papers, the salesman probably will want to sell me an expensive Extended Warranty with high pressure.
The final price was reached during the initial phone call without putting me on hold, all other calls were over color and option availability.
Motorworld had the vehicle within two weeks, (we were on vacation or it could have been sooner.)
The details follow:
Blue Mirage LE 8 Passenger
BW, Z1, V5, (N1 dealer installed) $ 26,128.91. plus tax and $ 152.25 Tags (little high).
No pressure for extras, list price on warranties will buy later.
I would have preferred a local purchase but every dealer in the Philadelphia area either told me list price or the Motorworld price was a come-on. The closest price was $ 560. more and the sales manager when told of the lower price was annoyed. I even told them I would buy from them if they could be within $ 300. to save the trip.
All in all Motorworld is a very professional operation, well worth the hour and half drive for us. The positive feedback on them in this discussion board also helped convince me to take the drive. Feel free to email me if anyone would like more details.
Question - Dealing right now
Invoice - $31,544
Price we're at now $33,250
$1,706 above invoice
My feelings are not yet there! i'll probably bite if it comes down $1K to $32,250
What are your thoughts?
Davenow, try a Search This Discussion. You may want to look at the quote link on the main edmunds.com page when you are ready to buy too.
Not exactly what i was after...let me explain further...
Everybody should put in the detailed description of what the bought, where, and for how much in a little database somewhere, where people in this forum could go to check out the best deals had!
This way it would all be in one place, and the information would all be one to one comparison type of data. We all could leverage this info when shopping for our own vehicles!
Do you agree?
It was supposed to ship on Sat. and no word. yet. Take care
We financed about a month ago, the best I mananged to secure - pitting a few banks including capitalone against each other, right in front of the dealer finance manager - was 3.3% for 36 months. My fico score is around 800, which might have helped. Note that rates have dropped a bit over the past month, so as a reference, I would guess the best rates for a 36-month loan would be in the neigborhood of 3.15-3.20%.
Enjoy your van, which is what we've been doing.
I lived in northern RI and still return to te area. We are thinking of buying in RI or southern CT. How was Attleboro Toyota to deal with and how over the invoice were they. Attleboro Toy. is on Rt 1 just of of 295RT correct??
Thanks,
Dave
I put audiovox VOH884 system, with custom console from for sienna (made by audiovox). The custom console allowed me to keep my rear audio controller. The sound is being fed thru a FM modulator. Everything works fine except what I feel is that I really have to crank the audio to the max to get the sound out of the DVDs. I tried a regular CD, and felt that it also had to be cranked way up. What's up with this? Any one else had similar stituation with the FM modulators?
I went through Quality Toyota in Corona (the fleet dept). They are truely the nicest people to work with. They weren't being "fake". I was very picky on the color and package and kept going back and forth. The woman I worked with called back several times, always answered her phone, called several places to track down my car, etc. There was no haggling. We settled on the price before and they didn't try to change it once I got there. All the paperwork was basically ready. I added on the extended warranty (which their's was higher), but I showed them the one I printed out from ToyotaWarranty.com and they matched it no problem. 7 year/100k for 1170, $0 deductible. You might be able to get it lower, but I didn't argue. I kept my Previa for 13 years.
The only thing I wish is that could get the options I want, but Toyota makes set packages and not all are available in So. Cal.
Thanks to everyone one for advice here.
Sorry, but I never pay any attention to suggested retail prices.
If your going to be making a purchase soon I'd suggest you try not to focus on grinding down from MSRP. You're in a much better bargaining position if you only concentrate on the invoice price and make it the dealer's responsibility to negotiate you up from there.
Also, instead of the dealer selling you on the idea of them getting more money for the car try selling them on the reasons why it's it's OK for you to pay less.
Example: I actually closed my own sale by telling the fleet sales guy, "I've never heard of a dealership turning down an offer of $1000 over invoice but if you guy's can afford to do that I'll be happy to take my business elsewhere".
Turn the tables on 'em!
