    Hello,
My husband and I got a Stratosphere Mica Sienna XLE Limited a month ago and we love it. My husband is a computer freak and when he heard about having a GPS Navigation System in the van, he quickly checked off the option box for it. That came with a DVD player and a rear camera for looking backwards when backing. That plus the Park-Assist Sonar system which beeps when I get too close something while backing.
We got the XLE Limited for about $38,000 after the dealer took 1K off. The Dealer was Route 22 Toyota in Hillside, NJ. They were extremly kind to us since we were purchasing from them a 2nd time (We got a brand new Camry XLE V6 in 1995 & back then they were very curtious to us and we got a lot of extras).

The only thing I can complain is when we got the DVD-Based Navigation System, the standard JBL Premium Sound System with 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer was replaced with the same system but it had a single-disc feed. Toyota told me it was because of the Navigation system that it didn't have room for a CD Changer. Although I do like the fact that the CD Player and the Cassete player and hidden behind the Nav System. And the Nav System tilts down to reveal it. Also the standard HID Lights aren't self leveling but we have to do it manually.

We didn't even had to wait. My husband went out to the dealer on Saturday. And the van was sitting outside my driveway on Monday.

Do you think I was stupid to buy a 2004 Sienna? Because I was afraid that the 2005 Sienna will be different; i.e. maybe different fascias or some added amenities to the car. Does anyone know if the 2005 Sienna is staying the same until 2006 or will it be changed? I am thinking it would stay like this until Sept. of 2006.

I use the Camry as a reference:
    3rd Gen: Introduced in 1992
             Coupe added in 1993
             Minor Interior Adjustments in 1994
Redesigned front and rear fascias for 1995
Leather Option package offered on LE Models, other wise nothing more- 1996

    4th Gen: Introduced in 1997
Front & Rear Fascias changed for 2000
Collector's Edition came out somewhere in between 2000- 2002
5th Gen: Introduced in late September, 2002 as early 2003 model
Foglamps added to XLE model grade as standard Equipment-2003
Limited Edition introduced, Revised LE alloy wheels, Revised engine for LE V6 & XLE V6, new 3.3L V6 for SE.

I guess there wouldn't be much of a difference....?

The price that you listed for your Sienna LE w/pkg 7 does not sound bad, but you may be able to do a little bit better. I got the same vehicle on Jan 3rd but mine also included the Z1 accessory package (I think that is the correct name for floor mats and 1st aid kit) and the wireless headphones for the rear audio. I also got the 84mo/100k zero deductible warranty in the price. My OTD price was 28,500 and that included everything (I live in MD so taxes were 5%). I bought my Sienna at Springfield Toyota in No. VA but could have gotten similar or better deals at Fitzgerald Toyota or DARCARS Toyota in MD. I had a tough time finding the color that we wanted during the "Toyota-Thon" after Xmas sale. Now that inventory is better, you may have more selection amongst dealers. If you don't need the extended warranty that I got (~$1000), try knocking another $500-600 off of your dealers price to see if they will budge. Good luck.

My wife had the same concerns as you @ waiting for the 2005...I can tell you that IMO, the only thing other than color changes that they could/should add is an electric passenger seat for a van of this price. I can't believe that a $35-$40 vehicle w/ all those extras doesn't come with a front seat passenger electric seat. I spoke to someone at Toyota @ this and apparently, they have received a lot of calls regarding this matter.

    In #3246 Andrewtran71 writes:

I noticed that in OK, we pay car tax at the tag agency. So when we buy cars, the car dealers don't charge us tax, so our OTD price is not the same as other states like TX, etc.
    Right?

But I think you got a great deal--almost $3K off MSRP.
How much was your total price including OTD plus Tax, Title, and Tag?

    Andrewtran71,

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I have been swamped and have not had an opportunity to check the forum as often as I would like.

You are correct regarding the difference between OK and other states and how they handle the payment of the tax, title, and tag for a new vehicle (varies from state to state).

Personally, I think the best way to determine how good a price a person gets on a new Sienna is without including the tax, title, and tag. While these tax related items do factor into the actual cost of ownership they can vary widely depending upon where you live. The tax, title, and tag fees are fixed expenditures determined by each state and not the car dealers themselves.

Regarding your second question, the Tag Agency said we should receive the original title by certified mail, and then we can proceed with the payment of the other items. Until then I am in the dark as much as you are.

It is funny how the top of the line model didn't have a power passenger seat. I don't really care about it but having would be nice. Though I still want to know what will be added to 2004. My son has a habit of polishing cars so if I would add a color, add black.

32,800 with single DVD, running boards, tow package and cargo cover & mats

    Is this good quote?
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
If I remember correctly, the tax is like 3.25%, the title is like $11, and the tag is like $85.

Your Sienna Limited cost you about $33,200, assuming $100 for fees. Thus I would estimate your tax to be $1,079 and therefore your Out-The-Door final cost to be $33,300 + $1,079 + $11 + $85 = $34,475.

But yeah, I agree with you that the best price is determined by how much you got off MSRP since the state excise tax in Texas is twice that of Oklahoma and California is almost 3 times that of Oklahoma.
In other words, if we got $3K off MSRP in Oklahoma and someone from California got $3K off MSRP, it means we paid about $2K less "out-the-door".

Looking for XLE in RI or Connecticut. One CT dealer had "best rate" and another was "sleazy sales our us". All Siennas are coming in with NO dvds. The dealer is telling us a DVd is $1895. Anyone paying this for a DVD with TV reception?

What size screens are you getting for what price?
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
Manchester, NH...Go to Autofair...better yet, look on their web site and it will show you there low price. They have some of the best deals anywhere. And, if you get package 5 (which comes w/ DVD player 7" and rear spoiler and 2 115V outlets and cargo box, it will cost you dealer cost of about 1560...list is $1950.

    04 LTD FWD - It's still there!
just for a $500 scobble! If they sold it to me it would have saved them $$, but no!!! Just just care about getting high $$ return per vehicle.
    Mileage: 10
     Stock Number: 41721
     VIN: 5TDZA22CX4S102559

What do you think about turn rate now??

Just a bogus concept to keep dealer happy about why they turn down fair deals!
  • momstruck1momstruck1 Member Posts: 206
we were told by one dealer that the dvd was 1400 and we thought that that was alot . we also questioned why none were being shipped with the dvd player. we were thinking of putting in our own dvd player at a best buy or electronics place. It is a little less for the bigger screen and if you are purchasing the van out right and not leasing it is an investment in your car anyway. that is how we are looking at it. if we could find the xle we want then that would be great. Are you finding that a few of the xle's we looked at all had running boards at $400-$600 for them we really don't need or like them. Why ship this when people with small kids want the dvd players!!
  • weaselinsuitweaselinsuit Member Posts: 78
Just wondering what the quality of the toyota dvd system is versus the aftermarket ones. Toyota Canada wants $2646.00 CDN for one and I have seen them in stores for around $1000 CDN.
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Calm down, don't get a coronary on us. As I explained before, turn rate is a number that is used as a guide to gauge how fast or slow a line of vehicles is selling. Traditionally, January and February are the slowest months in the car industry. Turn rates are down in February compared to January and December. Stock is plentifull on Sienna right now. Why don't you try another dealer?

i just wanted to prove a point...
he told me it would sell for his price within a week...
...it's still there, and was it worth it?

i told you though that i was playing the waiting game on the 05 Ody.

i would like to see this minivan before i make my move...

Only you can answer your own question(s). I've seen the 05 Odyssey and it's nothing to write home about. Same design with rounded edges. I thought Honda would do something completely different. You may see pics of it at www.thehollywoodextra.com

Are we sure the ASM will be the 05 Odyssey?
I like the interior, but the exterior has got to go.
I prefer the Sienna's exterior looks over the ASM.
  • falls1falls1 Member Posts: 13
One dealership told me that they install the DVD player, Pioneer, I think it was, 10" screen and two headsets, and able to play local TV for $ 1895. Another dealer told me the same price, but the screen is about 6" if that. A friend had one installed at this second dealer. Wow same price for a 10" and 6". The think Toyota is allowing dealer to make extra money by installing them.
I would believe most people these days would want a dvd in the minivan. I just think a factory installed Dvd would be less of a headache than some guy ripping through the roof and side player to put in an aftermarket.
I'll be buying in a week or two. Has anyone bought a package with a DVD installed from the factory yet??
  • leesburgleesburg Member Posts: 6
My husband and I are looking to buy our first minivan around the late May/early June timeframe. Does anyone know if the prices will be higher on the 04 Sienna at that time or will they begin to fall more because of the upcoming 05 Odyssey? I know that mackabee said that Jan/Feb are the slowest months, but does that compute to the best prices?
  • sch1oizsch1oiz Member Posts: 11
We wanted the safety equipment and a DVD but did not want to go up to an XLE, so we went with an LE package 7 and an aftermarket DVD.

Audiovox makes the DVDs Toyota installs. An advantage of the factory install is that it will sit higher in the ceiling, which will cause less interference with your rear view mirror when it is dropped down. Also it will be truly integrated with your audio system. The rear seat audio functions will be there and the DVD audio can be controlled by the buttons on the steering wheel as well as the front stereo unit.

Audiovox [and many others] makes all in one overhead dropdown units of various sizes. Typically your choices will be screen sizes of 7, 9, or 10 inches. The factory installed screen is 7 inches. The factory installed screen seems like it will not hang as low as an aftermarket 7 inch screen. The bigger the screen the lower it will hang and the more it will interfere with your rear view when flipped down. Often the aftermarket players will offer TV, although the TV signal is typically best when the van is stationary. They may offer an FM tuner, or create an opportunity to integrate a sattellite radio system.

An aftermarket install will usually use an FM modulator to play sound over the car speakers [most units will also have 1/8" wired headphone jacks and will broadcast an infrared (wireless) audio signal]. Enabling the FMM requires flipping a switch [either a hard wired switch or one on the DVD remote] and then setting the radio receiver to a particular channel. After that the volume can be controlled normally. A slight difference from total integration with the factory unit.

Some aftermarket DVD installs will remove the Rear Seat audio functonality. We really enjoy having the RSA function, which essentially allows the passengers to [control and] listen by headphone to a different audio source than is being played over the car speakers. Even if the RSA functions are saved, an aftermarket install will never be truly integrated with the RSA as a factory install would be.

Audiovox does sell a console that is customized for the Sienna that will allow you to keep the rear seat audio functionality and hold the DVD drop down player. It is molded in either Stone or Fawn color and makes the install integrate well with the van. Even so you have to remember that both the RSA and the DVD may broadcast over the same wireless channel, so some thought must be given to which sources can be played and how. Using the wired headphone jacks would allow each source to be heard. Some DVD players can broadcast over two separate wireless channels; two channel wireless headphones are available.

Theoretically the Front unit could be playing a CD/Tape/AM/FM over the car speakers, the RSA could be playing an alternative CD/TAPE/AM/FM source over the wired headphones and the aftermarket DVD player could be playing a DVD/CD/MP3/radio/TV source over wired headphones. Some dancing might allow both the RSA and DVD to broadcast wirelessly without overlapping.

Confused? Try explaining it to your spouse....

If history holds true, the 2005 Sienna should be out around May/June. Dealers are well stocked right now and supply is plentiful with not many customers to fill the seats. They are dealing.

We purchased the Audiovox 916 DVD/TV with 9 inch screen for $800, the custom console for $125 shipped. An afternoon of labor was spent installing it. Slightly tricky, but most competent folks with the time could manage it. There are great resources on the web that will guide you virtually step by step, with pictures, factory repair manual illustrations, etc. Even if you bought the pieces and paid a shop $250 to put it in for you, you could save $700+ over the dealer's $1895
  • falls1falls1 Member Posts: 13
My wife and I just started looking at the LE and XLE. We have been to only two dealers, so far, but none of them can show me the DVD play. One said it was 10". And Sch1oiz brings up a good piont with rear view looking. I can't imagine what a 10" screen would look like like. I would like to see my kids at least. The dealers all talk about the great aftermarket, but yet have no info ie brochure or photos of a van done. It just gets me. We look again next this coming week.
Please keep giving up information. Its very informative.

I was negotiating a price with a dealer. He indicated he was willing to sell for 1500 over invoice. But he indicated that the invoice includes $629 hold back and $314 for financial fees for advertising, in addition to the invoice prices quoted on Edmunds and other websites. Does this sound legitimate?
  • vitulavitula Member Posts: 3
We picked up our van last week and it has a factory installed DVD. The screen is 7 inches wide -- big enough to show a widescreen format without losing the edges. I played a video for the kids on the way back from the dealership and that screen did not interfere with my line of sight while driving (I thought that it would). If you can swing it, I'd definitely recommend the factory installed DVD. It does sit pretty high in the ceiling -- so much so that you don't notice it when it's not in use.

I also did not get much help from the sales staff about the operation of the DVD player. We figured it out on our own during the test drive (w/o a salesperson along for the ride).
  • falls1falls1 Member Posts: 13
I've heard about the ad fees usually like 200-250. The guy is giving you the line about the Holdback and that's WRONG. The holdback from what I have read about is not included. Its a hidden fee that dealers get for the vechile to be on the lot for three months from the manufacturers. I think for most siennas its about 500-650. Its usually 2-3 percent of either the invoice or MRP. I would subtract the 649-1500= what I would give them. I hope to pay no more than 500-1000 over invoice. Anything higher and I'll walk.

Good luck - I am not positive on my figures, but maybe someonelse can answer also. Edmunds has a section on car buying tips.

After a week of searching I think I have a van... Its a Dealer to Dealer trade and they wanted a deposit before they would do the trade... So I went ahead and put the deposit down.. So now They have $500 of my money and all I have from them is a few emails with an agreed upon price and an agreed Out The Door price...

Lets hope the dealer sticks to his agreement…

Here are the best lines I got during my searching

“MSRP nothing less. I have came down $1000.00 to get to MSRP. On the lot we have them listed for $1000.00 over MSRP and we can not keep them in stock.”

"Now is a great time. We have not had a 2004 Sienna on the lot for sale for a long time. We keep one to drive but it is not for sale at this time."

I guess I will cross my fingers...
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
I don't agree with you guys. I think if you look at the MSRP, of XLE Limited, it is $34,480 which includes the holdback and ad fee. If you pay $500 over invoice, you are paying over a number that already includes the holdback and ad fee...that's what my dealer told us...we understand the dealer has to make some profit. We just were not going to let them kill us at list price or some crazy number like only $1,000 off.
  • garnerjgarnerj Member Posts: 31
But what do you do when every dealer in you entire region is quoting the same high prices....
You either shell out the $$$ or go way out of state...

Any one know how well dealers will stick to their internet quotes? Do they just low ball you to get you in the store.. or do you find hundreds of other charges once you get there... Or do most dealers stick to their prices?
  • rinkwiderinkwide Member Posts: 6
Wanted the XLE Limited AWD with HO Pkg and they are in very short supply here in Southern California. No cars means NO discounts so I tried calling a bunch of dealers up in Northern California. Spoke with various fleet/internet sales people. Found a good number of such vehicles and eventually located the color and options I wanted. I offered them $1100 over invoice. The fleet guy started to go on about how they wholesale this car for $1700 over invoice. I told him to save his breath and take the deal or leave it. He said he'd have to talk to the dealership's sales manager and call me back. 10 minutes later he took the deal.

    Stick to your guns folks.

I presume I can mention the dealer's name. The
dealer in the western suburb of Chicago is
ELGIN Toyota in Elgin. I had a very good experience with them. I called them on the phone and made an offer, and I received an answer right away. Also, I did not finance the van through the bank or dealership.
  • bondguy1bondguy1 Member Posts: 231
Does anybody know rates? I financed the van for 60 months and got a rate of 3.19% Is this a competitive rate? It was the same rate they were offering for 48 months. They were also willing to finance 100% but we put money down and financed the balance.

I had been looking around for sometime and I think I finally got a good deal.

For LE package#1 including Carpets and Toyoguard plus , I ended up paying $23,800 before taxes, tags and docs.

Did anyone else buy same package at better price recently ????
  • popcornmompopcornmom Member Posts: 5
FYI, GarnerJ's right when it comes to Colorado. I posted here a while back on our efforts in November and December to find an XLE with #5 package (CZ). Eventually, we negotiated a price of $29,258 (plus TTL) which is roughly $2K below MSRP but 5% over Edmunds' stated invoice (the CO starting invoice is higher). We put down our deposit end of December. And now, we've simply waited and waited as each allocation came up & didn't configure to either our package or our colors (Arctic white & gray inside).

IF this deal ever closes, we'll be happy to share the dealer/internet experience. However, it's been 2 months and even though supply is supposed to be getting better, we're still not even at a build date... any thought from others OR others looking in Colorado?

This figure is exactly $3,000 less than the TMV. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2004/toyota/sienna/100257810/optionsre- sults.html?action=2&tid=edmunds.n.options.ntmv.1.1.Toyota*

I am in San Francisco, California. The dealer is City Toyota in Daly City. It is dealer's allocation, to be delivered in mid to late March. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I did this entirely through e-mail. Paid the $500 with credit card. Received the detailed confirmation via e-mail too.

Now I start to worry that when I finally go down to the dealership to take delivery and sign the papers, the salesman probably will want to sell me an expensive Extended Warranty with high pressure.
  • ewallaceewallace Member Posts: 1
Motorworld (Mile One) in Wilkes Barre, PA 90 miles from Philadelphia area dealers provided my best price. Contact was made by email, they called within the hour and all contacts were from the same salesperson. No hand off to a manager.

The final price was reached during the initial phone call without putting me on hold, all other calls were over color and option availability.

Motorworld had the vehicle within two weeks, (we were on vacation or it could have been sooner.)

    The details follow:

    Blue Mirage LE 8 Passenger

    BW, Z1, V5, (N1 dealer installed) $ 26,128.91. plus tax and $ 152.25 Tags (little high).

No pressure for extras, list price on warranties will buy later.

I would have preferred a local purchase but every dealer in the Philadelphia area either told me list price or the Motorworld price was a come-on. The closest price was $ 560. more and the sales manager when told of the lower price was annoyed. I even told them I would buy from them if they could be within $ 300. to save the trip.

All in all Motorworld is a very professional operation, well worth the hour and half drive for us. The positive feedback on them in this discussion board also helped convince me to take the drive. Feel free to email me if anyone would like more details.

I am signing the final papers to mail back to the dealership. If I get a warranty, I would get the Platinum 7/100 w 0 deductible. They want $1320...which seems high. Should I wait? I am in Florida which you can't but an original Toyota brand warranty unless you go to a Lexus dealership. I am buying van out of state which is the reason I am able to purchase from a dealer. My local Lexus dealership said that warranty is a fixed price item in Florida at $1495. I would say it's easier to do it now because it's in price of vehicle and financed except that we are planning on financing $30K and put down difference. If I throw the warranty into the mix, I still have to come up with $1320 now.

Warranty or Not Warranty by bondguy1 -imho - Wait. I've seen a lot lower!

    Question - Dealing right now
    Invoice - $31,544
    Price we're at now $33,250
    $1,706 above invoice

My feelings are not yet there! i'll probably bite if it comes down $1K to $32,250

Davenow, try a Search This Discussion. You may want to look at the quote link on the main edmunds.com page when you are ready to buy too.

Not exactly what i was after...let me explain further...

Everybody should put in the detailed description of what the bought, where, and for how much in a little database somewhere, where people in this forum could go to check out the best deals had!

This way it would all be in one place, and the information would all be one to one comparison type of data. We all could leverage this info when shopping for our own vehicles!

    Do you agree?

to des16, It is Attleboro toyota, just south of Boston, Also keep in mind that dealerships have no interest cost if you buy the car before it is delivered to them. The longer it sits on the lot the more $$ they have to pay.

It was supposed to ship on Sat. and no word. yet. Take care
  • etalon02etalon02 Member Posts: 20
If you already signed the papers, you should be happy about your rate. You probably could have done a litter better, say one tenth of a percentage point, for a 60 months loan.

We financed about a month ago, the best I mananged to secure - pitting a few banks including capitalone against each other, right in front of the dealer finance manager - was 3.3% for 36 months. My fico score is around 800, which might have helped. Note that rates have dropped a bit over the past month, so as a reference, I would guess the best rates for a 36-month loan would be in the neigborhood of 3.15-3.20%.

Enjoy your van, which is what we've been doing.

Finally I installed an aftermarket DVD system in my XLE. The reason I didnt do with the factory system was becasue I wanted the side curtain airbags.

I put audiovox VOH884 system, with custom console from for sienna (made by audiovox). The custom console allowed me to keep my rear audio controller. The sound is being fed thru a FM modulator. Everything works fine except what I feel is that I really have to crank the audio to the max to get the sound out of the DVDs. I tried a regular CD, and felt that it also had to be cranked way up. What's up with this? Any one else had similar stituation with the FM modulators?

I paid $30829 before tax and license. $29709 is the invoice for GH+carpet mats. So, $2988 under Retail or $1120 over invoice, which ever way you want to look at it.
I went through Quality Toyota in Corona (the fleet dept). They are truely the nicest people to work with. They weren't being "fake". I was very picky on the color and package and kept going back and forth. The woman I worked with called back several times, always answered her phone, called several places to track down my car, etc. There was no haggling. We settled on the price before and they didn't try to change it once I got there. All the paperwork was basically ready. I added on the extended warranty (which their's was higher), but I showed them the one I printed out from ToyotaWarranty.com and they matched it no problem. 7 year/100k for 1170, $0 deductible. You might be able to get it lower, but I didn't argue. I kept my Previa for 13 years.
The only thing I wish is that could get the options I want, but Toyota makes set packages and not all are available in So. Cal.
Thanks to everyone one for advice here.

The car I bought had an invoice price of $37,666.

Sorry, but I never pay any attention to suggested retail prices.

If your going to be making a purchase soon I'd suggest you try not to focus on grinding down from MSRP. You're in a much better bargaining position if you only concentrate on the invoice price and make it the dealer's responsibility to negotiate you up from there.

Also, instead of the dealer selling you on the idea of them getting more money for the car try selling them on the reasons why it's it's OK for you to pay less.

Example: I actually closed my own sale by telling the fleet sales guy, "I've never heard of a dealership turning down an offer of $1000 over invoice but if you guy's can afford to do that I'll be happy to take my business elsewhere".

    Turn the tables on 'em!
