It's been almost another month (ok maybe just 2-3 weeks) and I'm still interested in hearing about your horrible dealer, who at last count had your car for about 65 days and no repairs......
Whasssssss happppppppeeennnnnnniiiinnnnggggg??????
Philly, you're right, I am not a saint! I'll sell you a DTS at invoice with 1% markup on the rate if you like though. Drop ship it right to your local dealer. That would frost him good.
Barry, rear glass has to be replaced. I have heard of these problems on the Catera (terrible reception in the sunlight, night time or cloudy day is fine), but not on the Deville. Warranty item all the way. Expect repair to take about a week for parts to come in.
Craig, 01 STS is unbelievably better than the 00. Good choice. as far as HP loss, I don't buy it. Take it from someone who drives, and I mean DRIVES, these cars. The 01 is faster, regardless of model. I don't know about the low emission info, but the seat of my pants tells me different.
JLL, S&S package discount was only in effect during the month of October. As far as whether it was available in CA, I have no idea. Your local dealer should tell you.
If you don't mind, how much was the bill to the insurance for 3 days of labor (25 hours of labor)?
The labor charge was $1,778., which included items such as 100 miles of test driving and changing the coolant. Don't ask me the connection between lightning striking the antenna and changing the coolant. The car was almost new. I took delivery on March 18. I suppose that since the service department knew how to change coolant, they figured it was another item they could bill to the insurance company.
Otherwise, cool car, and I hope a vision of some production models to come...
I don't like the grill work at all and since my car is coming with night vision, it would look even worse.
I can buy the same Koenig Tantrum Wheels (chromed), mounted on 18" GoodYear F1 Sport tires used on the Tim Allen car. Tire Rack will ship them to my door mounted and balanced for under $1500.
I don't see myself spending $10 grand on this car just to get another 100 HP. Especially since I would have to buy it at the end of the lease. (See Tccad jumping up and down right about now screaming "Stupid *&#&@ Idiot, haven't you heard a word I said!?!?!")
Anyway, I am looking for a revised intake system which is less restrictive and thus result in increased HP. I have tried K&N, but no luck yet.
BTW- GM uses two methods for Tire Pressure Monitoring. One has sensors mounted in each wheel and will tell you the tire that is low. The other uses the ABS sensors to detect differences in wheel travel (low pressure, smaller tire, faster RPM) and is not specific.
Does anyone know which method is used in the Deville? Tccad?
I think something electrical shorted out and arced through the antenna.
A lightning bolt, with millions of volts and amps, would have done much more damage.
But, it looks like things are getting better for you.
(Hey, just remembering, my Concours is going into its 3rd day at the Caddy shop. Just to get the interior lights to turn off......)
We must have talked to the same engineer because I got the exact same story. He told me that the plastic compound used in the 200/01 Northstar air box was to rigid and did not pass their Q/A tests. Basically, their filter frame is resin based rather than foam rubber used on regular disposable air filters. The K&N Filter did not seal well against the walls of the air box, allowing particulate to pass through into the intake system.
I asked them if they plan to produce and market a whole new air box/filter system for the Northstar, but he wasn't sure.
I would surely spend good money to upgrade the air intake system in this car. I think it would be a reasonably cheap way to get 25 to 30 more horse out of that motor!
I let you know if I hear anything.

The area 1 CD is $135. Yep you read that correctly! Seems a little steep to me!
The entire kit of nine CDs is over $1000.
Part number for entire kit is 25725886, the region 1 CD is 25725887.
I asked if I could borrow the Region 1 CD from a 2001 to insure that it would work before I spent the big bucks and it seems to.
Question: How can I get the new "software" for the system? The 2001 models have an "Estimated Travel Time" feature that I'd love to have! I assume that it's also just some kind of CD update, but the dealer did not know.

**INCLUDES A LIMITED RELEASE 9 DISK CD-ROM SPECIAL VALUE PACKAGE AND CARRYING CASE**
Does anyone know what the heck this means??? Carry what??? Where??? Why???
Tccad?!?!?!?!?
Am I on the right track??
I have read in the FAQ section on the Cadillac site that they recommend against tinting the windows if you have GPS as the antenna is under the rear parcel shelf.
Furthermore, I have heard of people complaining about radio reception (especially AM) after tinting their windows.
Can anyone provide some further insight here??
Tccad! Where the heck are you, man?!?!? I will send more email!
Most diversity systems have two FM antennas and the radio will choose the
stronger of the two FM signals. This is a popular method in non-GM vehicles.
The 2001 Cadillac with the diversity antenna is a unique system. The signals
from the front and rear antenna are phased together to create a stronger signal
than either antenna could produce on their own. The phasing is a continual
process that occurs many times a second. The advantage is FM multipath is
greatly reduced and the FM signal performance is superior to the single element
glass antennas and mast .
Your statement about the mast antenna may still be valid for single element
glass antennas, but the performance level of the Cadillac ARS (Active Reception
System) is superior in the reduction of multipath. Multipath is the same radio
signal hitting the antenna at two different times which knocks the signal out of
phase and causes undesirable noise in the FM. Typically, when the radio detects
the multipath it will change to mono to cut down on the interference. The ARS
(diversity) eliminates most of the multipath and allows the radio to continually
play in stereo under signal conditions that a mast system would require the
radio to play in mono. The result is a better sounding FM listening experience
under a wider range of FM signal conditions.
The AM reception does not use any of the above. It simply uses the rear element
as an AM antenna and operates the same as a single element system.
Best regards,
XXXX
Most premium tints use an aluminum coating in sheet form. This is the type of tint which disrupts the normal operation of the antenna for both radio and GPS.
There is another type of tint which holds up fine to the sun, but does not block either radio or GPS signals as it uses metal particles which are bonded to the tint itself.
Now, I got this information today, but I'd like to confirm it. Barry, do you think the guys over at Delphi would be able to help me out with this?
How did you get in touch with them??
Thanks-
if that doesn't work just to to www.delphiauto.com and search the site for "diversity antenna".
They make most of the window tinting films today, they should be able to answer your questions too.
I am taking delivery on a fully loaded '01 DTS in January. When all is said and done, I should be getting it $500 back of invoice with 1/2 point markup on the buy rate. That translates int a monthly payment (including taxes) around $825/mo.
Good Luck
change oil when you get a message on the driver
information system telling you to do so. I have
4000 miles on the care and the system says I have
60% oil life left. At this rate I wouldn't have
to change oil till about 9000 miles. This seems
a bit much to me. Does anyone agree?
By the way, I am down one quart of oil but
I infer from previous posts that this is normal.
Is this right?
This is a fine car. I was a little disapointed
that the power steering pump sprang a leek but it
was fixed satisfactorily under warranty.
At about 13,000 miles the, "Check Oil Level" light started coming on every time I started the car -- even after I changed the oil and checked the dip stick. The dealer replaced the sensor but that didn't affect the Change Oil interval like I hoped it would.
I've never been a quart low. Maybe the DHS engine is different enough to produce that result.

I have a 2001 DHS and the owners manual says to

Wow, krv03 made an intelligent choice.
If I bought an STS with electrical problems and the dealership fixed them, I would make an intelligent choice too.
I still would. (Heck, I'd even give them a hefty discount now). It is an okay car, but nothing that I'm particularly "Wowed" over.
Hope you had a great driving experience with your
Deville but I am curious because I remember your
complaint about some rattling in the dash on your
Deville. Is it still there or it is pretty much
gone because I recall that you were going to get
rid of it is the reason why I ask? Thanks.
Any thoughts?
krv03 - I appreciate the detailed analysis. 10 months to make a decision? I think that is a little over the top. Regardless, I'm putting in the research time (maybe a month or two) and I too am concerned about rear wheel drive. The LS430 is rear and the DTS is front. Do you think the chances of getting stuck is greater with Lexus' rear wheel drive?
I think it is really simple. Either you want a domestic car (or a "North American Built car" as Krv03 would say) or not. If not, please, go German, Japanese, Korean...whatever.
But please, until you have actually experienced OWNERSHIP of a Cadillac in this decade try NOT to comment on experiences you haven't had!
I do not go to the Acura (HONDA!) conference and talk about how it feels to own an expensive HONDA!
Nor do I go to the BMW site and talk about how "ME TOO" my 5 series is.
GET A GRIP, PEOPLE!
Are you planning on getting another luxury make or get another Cadillac?
Sure, I'll buy another Cadillac. I've owned five of them and haven't bought anything but GM since a 1958 Fordog. I figure a 2003 Escalade outta be about right -- if gasoline isn't $3.00 a gallon in the U.S. by then.
Wow!
That's a lot of power.
9.5amp x 12volts = 114watts. Lots of power.
If your battery is 750amp-hours / 9.5amps = 79hours. 79hours/24hours/day = 3.3days to where it will not start the car.
You got something very wrong. And a dealer BSing you heavy-duty about this being normal.
Dealer replaced the am/fm/cassette/cd radio in my 95 Concours to cure it's ability to kill the battery in a few days of not being driven. Strange thing to be drawing a lot of power, but that fixed the problem.
Tell them to fix it or set a schedule to bring out a new battery every 2 days for you.
The Riv was fixed by a Car Electric place after the dealer could not find it. Just some ideas for you.
