blueguy: When I was choosing a college, I was offered the choice of UMASS and a 3 year-old Impala SS (my favorite car at the time) or a private school of my choice, and I chose the private school (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). I am defintely glad, and my taste in cars has changed quite dramatically anyways!
Go on a test drive, and bring a stopwatch. Then let us know.
Antonio's? Amherst Brewing? I guess I haven't been back there in a while.
Oh, and shiny trim and funny, odd lights definitely add to the boy racer type theme as far as I can tell.
Mid 7's with a 5-speed manual
Though the numbers don't reflect the 24 Valver
"Oh, and shiny trim and funny, odd lights definitely add to the boy racer type theme as far as I can tell"
IMO clear reflectors on the front bumper lights do not look odd at all. Personally I thought the amber lights look "funnier". Oh well to each his own.
so much is made of 0-60, yet most normal people can't drive a manual transmission car well enough to ever hope to get the factory times. it also depends on altitude, gas, mileage, temperature, etc.
i would say that the 24V Jetta is fast enough, and leave it at that.
BLUE GUY - did you see the review for the G Coupe? i am driving one ASAP. it looks soooo good on the outside, maybe the inside won't seem so vulgar this time around. and the price? how do they keep it so low? 280hp. stability control. a backseat that isn't any smaller than my SEDAN. how can one go wrong? what is the catch with that G coupe? just in interior materials and design? i wonder what we will find out...bad tranny? oil leaks? or will it end up being the next "Legend Coupe"...the car that did EVERYTHING well. like magic...
hmmmmm
Justin, I've been following the G35 coupe religiously for months. It looks quite impressive and yes in a way it does remind me of the old Acura Legend coupe's simple style and functionality. i still love the first gen Legend coupes, 10+ years after their introduction. In fact a good friend owns one and it's still a rock solid car for her.
I'd guess with the record Infiniti has (and their speed fixing vexing issues) the coupe will have minor problems at first but by mid-year be fully functioning and nigh perfect.
The G35 sedan came out and had a few issues which reportedly Infiniti addressed with the 2003.5 sedans (new interior touches, new trunk, new ac, etc). If the coupe has problems, I'd bet by March/April of 2003, they'll be a thing of the past.
BTW, my friend's G35 sedan doesn't feel quite as nice as my Jetta but it's not exactly CTS-bad. It's just not uber-audi luxurious. More business-like.

The conclusion was that auto manufacturers are 'tweaking' the auto trannys to make the 0 -to- 60 times look good. (perhaps at the expense of other, desirable traits)
This is because many folks 'look at the numbers' and use this for comparison shopping. (0to60, HP... etc)
Most knowledgeable, educated people know better than to compare raw numbers because they do not tell the whole story. That is why we own VWs ;-)
For example... the 1.9L TDI engine is rated at 90HP... but actually driving one does not allude to this raw number. Many street-ricers get surprised when a 'chipped' TDI engine can out-accellerate their Hondas with $5,000 of add-ons under the hood.
The Honda S2000 has a relitivly high raw HP rating for the engine-size.... but this engine is the highest-revving engine on the market today.... Not very usable horsepower!
BTW... Have you seen the 2003 Jetta with V6 and tiptronic tranny is rated for the SAME MPG as the 2.0L standard tranny?
And if you get the chip in the 1.8T or TDI, it adds dramatic power. Everyone that I have talked to about that is surprised that one little chip can add 40hp and 80lb/ft of torque to an engine that's only 1.8 liters in size with 180hp in the first place.
They should not charge for the shocks if the car has only 15K miles on it.
Secondly, what happend that the guy got fired? Did I miss something?
one of the "car-bringer-arounders" stole change from my ashtray. so tacky and unprofessional. i had a fit about it, and was THIS close to filing a police report, just to bug them. it didn't come to that. i will be getting a severe discount on my 20k service
I don't blame you though. I don't care how small something is that they took, they took it and it was not theirs. That's messed up and totally unprofessional.
I have had problems with my car since day 1. I reported a majority of the problems to VW and had many issues resovled under warranty. When I was at 18,900 miles I was having problems with the car bucking and stuttering on cold or damp mornings. When it did this the engine light would
flash then go off. I reported the problem to VW of America and had it inspecting during the subsequent oil change, to my surprise I was told there was NOTHING wrong. The problem has persisted since then, I now have 37,500 miles on my vehicle. I had the in for service because the problem was getting worse and the engine light was not turning off after the bucking.
Upon examination, I was told the car required a Ignition coil pack and an o2 sensor. My cost, about 800 bucks. I told the VW manager that i reported the problem to VW under warranty and he told me to take it up with VWoA. VWoA's response was basically that since the car failed at 37,500 miles instead of 18,900 when it was reported, there was nothing they would do. I have even been in touch with the Level 2 Rep(the rep above the ones you talk to one the phone when you call). The attitude that I got from VW was that basically they didnt care, and that they wouldn't stand behind their vehicle. I am considering taking other actions, does anyone have any info on these repairs or other actions to take? I think this is a bad customer relations move for them to take.
I was also misquoted from VWoA on the labor cost for the repair. The dealership overcharged me $100 bucks, when VWoA told me it would be $100 bucks less. I called the dealership and VWoA about this and both basically said tough, thanks for the money, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
If anyone has any advice, please feel free to contact me. Also, record everything, document everything, VW does everything in its power to make as much money as possible without thinking of the people they are affecting.
HO
Stealership is pretty funny though!
