When working with the service manager to get my amp replaced, we looked at a 2002 Impala, the part number for the 2002's is different. I read it off to her, but didn't get it wrote down for myself. Also did not listen to the 2002 radio. My service manager is going to order the amp for me as soon as she gets finds out from the parts department that it will for sure work with my car. The information she got when looking it up does not say what vehicle it is for, and she doesnt want to order a part that don't fit and be stuck with it. Sounded like the run around, but she is taking care of the problem to my satisfaction. Eventually, I will enjoy the new amp.

    hunter39--regal blue

The Neutral leather interior has surprised me in that it isn't hard to keep clean at all.

Before delivery, I had the whole interior treated and protected. I follow up every couple of days with Zaino's Leather In a Bottle product... GREAT stuff. Keeps the leather soft and pliable (trying to avoid the creasing and cracking AMAP, teo :)
;and the stuff keeps the car smelling brand stinkin' new!

Since using the Zaino leather treatment, creasing is minimal and the seats look almost like they did the first day!

Whoever has a sound coming from the steering shaft, It is the intermediate steering shaft assembly, take it to the dealer and have it replaced. This is a very common problem for 2000 models.

I have a galaxy silver 2000 with gray leather and 42,000 miles new ISS and no cradle ticks......so far....

It was a piece of cake.

I tried to find a nice dull butter knife, but Mom wasn't too thrilled and busted me! LOL!

So I went into dad's toolbox and got a seasoned flathead screwdriver and wrapped it in tape.

When I got to the dealer, I took out a cotton towel and used my towel wrapped hand as the fulcrum and pried up the caps. At this time I might add, the caps are cheesy ABS plastic material! Probably cost an arm and a leg to replace as well! They look good on the outside, but seem fragile.

    Thanks!

2000 LS Galaxy Silver / Grey Leather2001 Base Navy Blue Metallic / Grey Cloth ps My Leather Seats are as Tight as when new,(except a small scratch that seems to have blended in) No major Creases or Ground in "Dirt"?,(no Dirt in my car's interior.... they just require a small amount of additional care and they work out great, I wonder if all of those Cloth Seats will become "LUMPY" and out of shape over time? They are not made of the "Greatest" Material known to man either! Don

Add one to the Navy Blue.. (gray leather interior)
  • cookie01cookie01 Member Posts: 369
I'm Navy as well with Navy cloth inside, which Matt thinks looks terrible but I LOVE... to each..her own...

Also, I tried the rearview mirror "move" last night and it worked GREAT! The mirror DOES have an arm that can be positioned higher on the window. Only problem at all is you get a bit of a reflection off the back end of the DIC. But I do like seeing more out of the front window.

Try it.. See what you think.

I actually like your Navy Blue interior better than the Gray one. But it is only available in the Base models.

Are there any Impala 3.4L or 3.8L Base model owners?

The great majority of posters here are LS owners, but we would also like to hear from base sedan owners with the standard 3.4L V6 engine..

    Black with Medium Gray Leather

I didn't really want leather, but it's good I didn't have cloth last week when I spilled coffee on the seats

    Black outside, grey cloth inside.

I will tally them up when i have more time later today.
Does anyone have a white one?
  • I was actually going to buy a blue one! However, the stereo sounded like crap, it must have been a "104", and it didn't have a spoiler. The color was beautiful and deep. I also liked the dark red.

While searching the lot for another blue with a spoiler and better radio, I saw the silver with the spoiler, and I said "I'll take that one!" After testing the radio, I signed on the dotted line (actually about 20 dotted lines).

My LS is Sandrift Metallic / Tan Cloth

    Tires:

Manufacturers always recommend the "comfort" pressure for tires. That's why Ford is in DEEP trouble with it's tires on the Explorer. You can't exceed the tire pressure on the sidewall. Ultimately you can run any tire pressure between manufacturer recommendation and the sidewall imprinted maximum pressure. The key is how the tread is wearing. Wearing on the edges - low tire pressure, wearing in the center - too much pressure.

See this site for more details: http://www.autoshop-online.com/cchtml/tire.wr.prob.html

Sweetpolly, was wondering where you were... we are the only Regal Blue owners on here I guess.

Roderacer, yes they are expensive to replace those center caps. The Impala logo caps can be had from a site on Nathan's resource page for 20.00 each, I think they'd look cool, but it's almost like you'd have to point them out rather than just notice them as being part of the car to begin with.

Looks like we have a good cross section of colors.
With navy blue being the top color.
Still no bronze mist cars yet.
Bronze mist is a great color. Basically the same color as my '99 intrigue.
I will tally them up this evening.
  • cookie01cookie01 Member Posts: 369
On the road two days ago. I do very much like that color. Couldn't tell what the interior color was but I'd guess tan... Would look odd with Grey inside.

    Hi Sweetpolly!
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
For some reason bronzemist looks better on the LS than it does on the base. Maybe the shiny 5 spokes brighten it up a bit.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Really nice. I have only seen Base Impalas in Bronzemist, not LS'.

I prefer the Navy Blue over that one still. Chevy really did a good job with the Navy Blue paint...looks very rich.

Can't complain about the Sandrift color. Looks superb when washed/waxed, very easy to maintain color.

Wyoimp:: We have the same car!

Apologies regarding my comments on leather seats. Its just a matter of personal opinion and I was not intending to get a rise on any of you :)
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
I tought the Bronzemist in the Intrigue was not as dark as the one in the Impala.

One color I would like to see offered in the LS is metallic pearl.

  • Why apologize? It's only an opinion. If people get upset because you don't care for some aspect of your car, which also happens to be their car, they've got some serious emotional issues.

If you start insulting people personally, that's a horse of a different color. I would get upset, and I have.

Scotchguard is amazing stuff, isn't it. Everyone with cloth seats should use it. It'll save their interior if they've got kids or drink coffee while driving.

Been away for the past few days so I'm trying to catch up.

OnStar only works if there is power to the car or the unit is plugged in. So it is easy to disable. But so is LoJack and other tracking systems.

What do you get for $199?

Accident Assist: They will call your insurance co, police, other emergency services if requested. Can also notify a family member or friend if you want.
Air Bag Deployment Notification: If your air bag deploys, they will try and call you and see if you need assistance, if you can't answer, they will notify emergency help and provide your location.
Emergency Services: You can manually request emergency assistance by pressing the button marked with the red cross.
Med-Net: If you so choose, you can also provide important medical information (Dr name, emergency contacts, allergies etc) and OnStar will give this to authorized medical personnel in an emergency. I'm not so keen on this feature, but might be good for those who have drug allergies or special medical conditions
Roadside Assistance: They can call a tow truck or call a friend or relative to request help.
Remote Door Unlock: They can unlock your doors or even flash your lights if you cannot find your car. I guess this is a problem in large parking lots.
Remote Diagnostics: If the Check Engine light comes on, they can tell you if it is safe to keep driving or to pull over immediately. I guess then they can call for help.
Stolen Vehicle Tracking: The can track your vehicle and provide that to the police.

All of this won't work if you disconnect the battery or system. Is this all worth $199? That's about $17/month. I carry a cel phone so I might not renew, but it does provide peace of mind.

I liked that it came standard on my car. Even if I don't renew it, if I ever wanted to turn it back on, I already have the equipment. I also got the autodimming mirror as part of the package.

Not to mention my car shares a feature with the Batmobile and that's pretty cool.

It seems that the least popular colors are white, green, Bronzemist and Torch red according to the poll.

Sandrift, black and Silver fall in the middle.

Navy Blue is the trendy color of the moment.

I saw a new '01 Montecarlo SS coupe in Navy Blue....sweet!

I have black with beige leather. My dealer only had black with gray leather, so they had to locate my car about two hours away. I wound up having to pay more, due to the other dealer having advertising fees built into their invoice, and my dealer did not. They also had to pay a driver to pick it up. It was worth it for the color I wanted.

I was just reading about the passlock system and the theft deterrent system in the Impala and there was some mention about a cut off. I don't remember if it was 5 miles or 5 minutes. I'll check the manual later
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
$17 per month for the basic "Safety and Security" OnStar subscription is a bargain in my opinion when you take into consideration the safety it provides. Heck I spend at least $40 a month in regular cellular phone service alone.

If OnStar would offer a "Out of the car" Onstar/Cellular phone package I would be the first one to sign up for that.

Today my sister left her car keys and purse locked inside her Honda Accord at the Mall. I had to drive to the other side of the city as I always keep a copy of her car keys just in case... Big hassle with time/traffic, etc. If her car had OnStar she would have had the doors unlocked in a matter of seconds.

To me the protection offered by OnStar is golden.
  • wyoimpwyoimp Member Posts: 87
I noticed that Teo. Great minds think alike. ;-)

I went to the dealer to get some parts (those little plastic fastners that attach the rocker panel "trim" to to the car) and saw a Monte Carlo sitting next to an Impala in the showroom. I know there are RWD and NASCAR folks here, but the Impala sure looked a whole lot better than the Monte. The headlights and tailights just looked to "Asian" (as in cars, not people). The rear also looked to "tame". Guess the "boomerang look" has finally taken root in me.
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
I have seen a clip that you can attach to your seat belt that prevents the buckle from slipping all the way down. If you want, I can see if I can find it again.
  • The batman factor makes it worth considering. Now, if James Bond had OnStar....
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
James Bond doesn't need OnStar...he always has the hottest chick on board ;)
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
I pretty much purchased the full kit. Z-1, Z-2, Z-5, Z-6, Z-7. Z-1 and Z-2 do a pretty good job. In my opinion, Z-5 doesn't do anything. It is supposed to remove swirl marks and light scratches but I didn't see any improvement. My biggest tip is to dampen the applicator with Z-6 or water before you put Z-1 or Z-2 on it. If you don't, it's not gonna spread nicely.
  • I see. You're only going to renew OnStar to pick up chicks. I can just picture it:
"Hey baby. Wanna make a hands-free phone call? I've got OnStar." :-D

Dear Teo: Just to let you know. Just got back from vacation with my LS. Went to the Jersey shore and back a couple of times and had no problem. Have not had any problems with the car stalling out since the ECM was replaced a few weeks ago. I live in Northern New Jersey and drove practically to the bottom of the state and back twice. The car drove like a dream and had no problems whatsoever. I wanted to ask you opinion on another matter. How often should one check the air pressure in the tires? Would you recommend once a week? Twice a week or whatever? Thank you. Joe
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Glad to hear that your stalling problem was successfully resolved by changing the PCM. The Impala is a great vacation/road trip car one of the best below the $25K price bracket.

Depends on your driving habits, but I do recommend to check the tire's air pressure once a week to ensure that the tires are in good shape, etc.

B4z suggested increasing the front tires pressure to 34PSI and the rears for 32PSI for better handling. Ride might get a bit stiffer but nothing significant.

Best of luck and keep on enjoying your car!

Hi Cookie, Hunter, Teo, and others in this townhall,

I'm still around. I read the posts almost everyday (except for recently, when I was on vacation). Anyway, my car is holding up fine. Hesitation seems to have gone away for now. It's now time to get a total detail inside and out and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it done (by someone else), any suggestions?

Another question, have any of you seen a monte carlo in the Medium Regal Blue color? or could that have been special ordered? My mother's neighbor has one (I think it's probably a 2000 model). Any answers?
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
I have posted a link to pics of my ride in the Impala Gallery topic...this time around it should work. Just click on the "Impala" folder.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Possibly. I am not too familiar with the Montecarlo's color palette but perhaps the Medium Regal blue color was available in the Montecarlo LS coupe back in 2000. The Montecarlo LS coupe is the equivalent of the Impala base sedan trim level.

put me down for the 2k Light driftwood metallic .

We saw a 2k LS with the factory alloy wheels yesterday in chandler AZ that had white wall tires on them, about 3/4 inch wide white wall.

IMHO it/the car looked ah , er , well, um, well not very good.

    Road trips??

We have put some moderate length trips (450-500 miles one way) on the Impala. We really like the way the car handles, rides etc. Mileage was at 30-31mpg at 75+ through New Mexico towards ElPaso TX.

In fact we have another family gathering in TX next month. I have been thinking mayb I need to paint the house that weekend..... LOL

My 2000 LS is black with grey leather, I like the neutralleather on the 2001 but it was not available in 2000. Turning 22000 miles with no problems. I have never had a car go this far with no problems. Great quality. Enjoy the ride.
  • nick01nick01 Member Posts: 84
I have an 01 medium bronzemist with the dark grey leather. 03/01 build. no problems yet, except the weather strip seal on the top left corner of the rear glass. I've seen a lot of others with the same problem even on the new car lots. Probably an employee at that station having a bad day......or a bad month maybe.

Xterracop......sew a small button in the center of the belt where you want the buckle to stop.
