    I am looking for a better/quieter ride but they are about gone anyway. The insides are wearing thin on two and the other two are pretty low maybe 5000 miles max on the good ones. I plan to go to Sams wholesale and get some at about 75 bucks a piece. When I get home I'm going to check the warranty on these tires because they should go a little longer. I rotate every 10,000 miles..........I know too long in between but I hated going to Discount Tire and asking for a free rotation without getting thier $20.00 balance. Now after I buy new tires I will rotate every 5000-7000 miles.

    I'm not exactly sure what brand Sams has, but they do sell goodyear "allegra" for 74 bucks but they look very cheap. This weekend I saw 2 different brands seemed pretty good. I think they were michelins

    Was driving home from a client's house last night and since i was not in a hurry I decided to see what kind of gas mileage numbers i could get on the DIC.
    My overdrive and lockup occurs exactly at 45 mph.
    I drove at 44 mph steady state and watched the DIC hover back and forth between 40 and 44 mpg.
    I then drove 46 mph and watched it flash up to 50 mpg and then into the 40's and back up to 50 mpg.
    A little pressure on the gas pedal and it would drop to 37 mpg.
    It is interesting to watch the tachometer at 45 mph. As it shifts into fourth the tach will drop and as it is dropping the torque convertor will lockup and it will drop some more.
    This car can pull some big mileage numbers if driven slowly.
  • ....and not so big numbers when you drive like me.

    Gas mileage since new - 28.3554mpg average. 27139 miles. Lowest tankfull- 25.3 mpg. Highest -34.6 mpg. My overall driving is rural with few traffic lites or stops but numerous short runs of less than 8 miles. I also have some Interstate trips of several hundred miles. The short runs kill the gas mileage because the engine doesn't warm up. You can watch the difference on the DIC. Enjoy the ride.

    Any news on a new Impala SS?
  • macgyver24macgyver24 Member Posts: 36
    I know what you mean about poor fuel economy and driving fast. A few weeks ago, I had to make an emergency run to a place about 25 miles away. I was late, so I pushed the car a lot, doing about 85MPH on the freeway. During that short trip at high speed, I am sure I went through an 1/8th of a tank of gas! I've noticed that if you burn rubber, you burn gas - big time. If I keep within the limit, I average 27MPG city/hwy combined.

    On another note, the most fun you can have is in a white base Impala - everyone coming towards you thinks you're a police cruiser and slows down! I had the pleasure of renting a white Impala once and everyone does a doubletake when you're around.

    Yesterday, our supplier took us out to lunch. He rented a Chrysler 300M. I sat in the front passenger seat, while the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Commodity Manager sat in the back seats. Lots of room all around. I think the interior of the 300M is gorgeous! The fit and finish are excellent, rode noise was similar to the Impala. The leather seats were 10X better than the Impala. The plastic faux wood looks very elegant. I thought what looks cool are the tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, and etc. They had white face plates. It got me thinking about replacing those boring black plates in the Impala with the white face plates. They really stand out!! Perhaps Nathan can link an aftermarket accessory site for these plates in his website. I'll be the first to buy them!

    Overall, I think the 300M is nicer than the Impala, not necessary better quality. For sure, in that price range, I would definitely get the 300M over the Lincoln LS and Mercury Grand Marquis. Those were the other cars that our supplier rented in the past when he took us out to lunch. The Lincoln LS was very crappy! Poor fit and finish. Lots of rattles. Yuck!

    Had to replace the front windshield due to an internal chip that has spread to a crack. I still loved my 950 mile trip to Houston from Saint Louis & back again. More info on that in the radio forum. The cabin is so quiet & the car suspension runs comfortably plush. With my 3.4L, 80 mph is ideal for cruising. 85 and it downshifts on overpasses. I use Mobile 1 synthetic. I have 45k miles. I use a 360 degree Whistler radar detector. Only mods are 35% black tint, rubber logo mats, black dash cover, & 2001 Monte Carlo SS aluminum rims (Equivalant to 2002 Impala sport model.) I'm starting to get annoyed by the steering shaft & brakes pulsate when used hard over 65 mph. Also noticed a rubber squeek coming from the steering wheel when turning it going slow when it's wet weather. I know there's no way to replicate this noise at a dealer, it's so random. Peace, Impala_D

    I replaced my Eagle GA's at 48000 miles, I am pretty sure they were a 50,000 mile tire, not 80,000. It cost me $425 to replace all four with Dunlop sp Sport A2. I have put 2500 miles since, and love the tires, great it wet and dry conditions. I haven't gotten any snow yet in NH, so I can't report on winter handling yet.

    I sure wish I wish I was able to get such good gas mileage. I average 21.3 at an average speed of 33 in a mix of city and highway. I also have the car fully loaded with stuff in my trunk though.
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
    My actual mileage is very close to yours. My driving is almost entirely city. My average speed is around 25-26 mph. My lowest is 19.8 mpg. My average is usually around 20.9-21.8 mpg.
    Exactly what my intrigue with the 3.5L DOHC motor got.
    As soon as I get on the highway it shoots up dramatically.

    Do you have the link to the website that shows a breakdown of all monthly new car sales?

    Yes they are nice but they are only 16".........I was going for 18" but I seen some with 20" so I will no longer compete. I am keeping the 16" for now, thats why i'm getting new 16" tires.

    I just dropped off my car this morning 49,000 miles hopefully it will be covered because it still has the same jingling noise in the front left strut that I have always had. Plus now its creaking when warm and backing up. I showed the manager the noise and he heard it right away. I told my wife to drive it yesterday so I could hear the clicks in the driveway. When I heard the clicks I put my finger on the cradle and I didn't feel anything, but when I put my finger on the strut I "felt" and heard the clicking. A little dangerous but very scientific. So I told him to check the strut. Well see later today.........
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    Does the Impala has strut bounce jumpers like the Intrigue?

    Like those chrome rims like message 6809. does anyone know where to get those chrome rims

    That's a date that should live in infamy!
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
    www.autosite.com is the site but they are incredibly slow putting up the data. Sometimes almost two weeks into the month. They still have October's stats up.
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
    If you can find the company that makes the white faces, I'll link it. =) The hard part is finding suppliers.
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
    First time I have ever seen them. Pretty cool. I like my aluminum ones though. I got a feeling these are custom jobs.
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
    For about 500 bucks you too can have those chrome wheels! Pretty cheap........I spoke with some chrome plating guy just now.
  • How much to plate the whole car?
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
    Mike Tabers at Allen Samuels Chevrolet in Houston said, "We are checking to see if you have the "updated" cradle, if you do then we cant do anything about it". Seems like the clicks are from the cradle. Now the Question is if they will pay to replace since this is the same noise I have taken it in for over 6 months and 15,000 miles...My cars build date is 11-99 so I'm pretty sure that it does not have the "updated" cradle.
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
    I have always had that in the back of my mind, Plating an entire car.........but I think its improbable for now.........I once saw a chevy astro van with the front fenders complete chrome plated then the chrome "melted" to some real nice graphics in the side of the van.........
  • Remember when front and rear bumpers were chrome? MY father used to always add those rubber bumper guards. Arrr Arrrr!
  • charts2charts2 Member Posts: 618
    I beleive those pictures of the 2000 Impala with the chrome rims were taken at the Detroit Auto Show back in January 1999, or later at the Chicago show. I also remember seeing a picture of the interior of an Impala LS on the net with a couple minor differences then the production car that came a few months later.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    I'll take a 1981 DeLorean finished on 24K Gold or Stainless Steel....ah and Mr.Fusion of course!

    Probably the whole car ticks when you make sudden turns or enter the time-space continuum....
  • 00impala00impala Member Posts: 474
    My LS was built 11/22/99 also and had the early cradle,(since replace w/ new one 10/01) I am very,almost certain sure your car has the early cradle too...it was a year later 'til they updated it...In my case it took a New Cradle and a new ISS to eliminate the noises. Don
  • gweilogweilo Member Posts: 118
    don,
    I thought they weren't eliminated as of late.
    Didn't teh service guy say continuing cradle problems were being investigated.no cure as of yet?
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
    Mike Tabers of Allen Samuels Houston chevrolet said, "The cradle you have is the original "bad" cradle, yes it is your cradle ticking. Now If you want me to fix it I will charge you for it. I checked it out under warranty because you have a case no. with chevy, but if you want, I can put a new cradle, BUT WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW UPDATED CRADLES TOO!" So its up to you". I said I will pick it up later today. I will just keep bugging chevy for updates or a recall.
  • gweilogweilo Member Posts: 118
    Sounds like this is being noted by more and more dealers.
  • Impossible! The 2001's are perfect!
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
    Mike Tabers (you know from where) said, "Look it's aluminum, it's going to creak, as long as the cradle is aluminum it will make noises. The noises are not a problems it is only an anoyance".......

    garypen nice one!
  • gweilogweilo Member Posts: 118
    "it is only an anoyance"
    Maybe..so long as it doesn't get weaker with each creak. It doesn't start out making noises.

    Anyone aware if GM issued a new part for the rear mud flaps for 2001 impala's?
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    Ok, I think that those of you that are TRULY unhappy with your Impalas do the following:

    * Ditch it

    * Sell it

    * Burn it

    * Lemon Law it

    * Repurchase it

    * Trade it.

    * Donate it

    And move on with with life...too many good damn cars too choose from...why put up with such piece of junk?

    For those of us that are reasonably happy with our cars, please spare the sarcasms. Oh may be I should start complaining about my car to be liked around here (Oh wait I did that already and I ended up being criticized and put down big time).

    So for those owners with good ownership experiences, please come forward....

    Anyone forming a car club for these 2k impala's in the nj area?
  • hunter39hunter39 Member Posts: 375
    Hey Frank, it's only a message board! You've had some of the most unique insights on this board in the nearly two years I have been reading this crap, (and I mean "crap" only in the best way possible!) so don't take it too personally.

    I've had a few problems with my car and have only once considered getting rid of him and that's when i saw what they were doing with the Sport edition of the Impala. Unfortunately I don't think I'd get enough in trade and money off to justify the exchange besides which they don't come in Medium Regal Blue anymore...speaking of which I'm driving around town today and sitting front and center up on one of those elevated car podiums (the nice concrete ones not the metal racks)at Coulter Cadillac is a beautiful Regal Blue 2k Impala, it fairly sparkled and was immaculate. I don't know what it was selling for though. I might have to stop and find out. It's the only one I've seen on a dealer lot.

    If I were to get a new Sport (shhhh! don't tell Bluish) I'd have to get the Carmine Red I think, it's a very classy looking color and in the sport edition would be a real head turner...
  • You're car is a "him" named Bluish? Funny. It doesn't look Bluish. ;-)
    Most people name their car female names, and call it "she".

    "(And the rest of you save your flames)"

    Nice follow up to the biggest flame in some time
    ;)
    If it's about the Impala, pro/con/informational, it's fair game.
  • Take a deep breath. Count to 10. There. Isn't that better? It's only a car. Plenty of good experiences are had by all here evry day. Some bad ones too. That's life. Smile.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    "Flamming perspectives" :)
  • I haven't seen any in some time.

    Coming from the engine bay?
  • Not for days, at least!
  • 00impala00impala Member Posts: 474
    I mean I had the first cradle without the x-tra welds to start with, and it was changed to the X-tra welded one, so far so good...My '01 Base is another story, I am taking it to the selling dealer next Friday. Don
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
    Do you guys remember the Chevy pickups in the '96 Olympics in Atlanta?

    They were ALL chrome.

    I couldn't tell if the rims on the impala showcar were chrome or just hi-polished.
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
    The thing y'all got to understand about teo, is that if you post something negative he will rebut it. If you recognize that there will be peace and harmony on the impala thread.
