My overdrive and lockup occurs exactly at 45 mph.
I drove at 44 mph steady state and watched the DIC hover back and forth between 40 and 44 mpg.
I then drove 46 mph and watched it flash up to 50 mpg and then into the 40's and back up to 50 mpg.
A little pressure on the gas pedal and it would drop to 37 mpg.
It is interesting to watch the tachometer at 45 mph. As it shifts into fourth the tach will drop and as it is dropping the torque convertor will lockup and it will drop some more.
This car can pull some big mileage numbers if driven slowly.
On another note, the most fun you can have is in a white base Impala - everyone coming towards you thinks you're a police cruiser and slows down! I had the pleasure of renting a white Impala once and everyone does a doubletake when you're around.

I love those Chrome Rims! Don
Overall, I think the 300M is nicer than the Impala, not necessary better quality. For sure, in that price range, I would definitely get the 300M over the Lincoln LS and Mercury Grand Marquis. Those were the other cars that our supplier rented in the past when he took us out to lunch. The Lincoln LS was very crappy! Poor fit and finish. Lots of rattles. Yuck!
I sure wish I wish I was able to get such good gas mileage. I average 21.3 at an average speed of 33 in a mix of city and highway. I also have the car fully loaded with stuff in my trunk though.
Exactly what my intrigue with the 3.5L DOHC motor got.
As soon as I get on the highway it shoots up dramatically.
That's a date that should live in infamy!
Probably the whole car ticks when you make sudden turns or enter the time-space continuum....
I thought they weren't eliminated as of late.
Didn't teh service guy say continuing cradle problems were being investigated.no cure as of yet?
garypen nice one!
Maybe..so long as it doesn't get weaker with each creak. It doesn't start out making noises.
* Ditch it
* Sell it
* Burn it
* Lemon Law it
* Repurchase it
* Trade it.
* Donate it
And move on with with life...too many good damn cars too choose from...why put up with such piece of junk?
For those of us that are reasonably happy with our cars, please spare the sarcasms. Oh may be I should start complaining about my car to be liked around here (Oh wait I did that already and I ended up being criticized and put down big time).
So for those owners with good ownership experiences, please come forward....
(And the rest of you save your flames)
I've had a few problems with my car and have only once considered getting rid of him and that's when i saw what they were doing with the Sport edition of the Impala. Unfortunately I don't think I'd get enough in trade and money off to justify the exchange besides which they don't come in Medium Regal Blue anymore...speaking of which I'm driving around town today and sitting front and center up on one of those elevated car podiums (the nice concrete ones not the metal racks)at Coulter Cadillac is a beautiful Regal Blue 2k Impala, it fairly sparkled and was immaculate. I don't know what it was selling for though. I might have to stop and find out. It's the only one I've seen on a dealer lot.
If I were to get a new Sport (shhhh! don't tell Bluish) I'd have to get the Carmine Red I think, it's a very classy looking color and in the sport edition would be a real head turner...
Most people name their car female names, and call it "she".
Nice follow up to the biggest flame in some time
If it's about the Impala, pro/con/informational, it's fair game.
They were ALL chrome.
I couldn't tell if the rims on the impala showcar were chrome or just hi-polished.
