    Christina,

All went well - the actuator was replaced by the dealer in about 45 min without cost to me. While I do appreciate them stepping up, I remain concerned that it's just a matter of time until others fail and I'll have to pick up the tab. As a good employee, you need to try and help convince GM that this issue could play havoc on future sales. Many of us who own Suburban's and Tahoe's are repeat buyers. I'm not so sure I'll be that easily sold another if this "thumb" keeps sticking me in the eye over and over. There has to be a solution that's mutually beneficial to all vehicle owners and GM.

    Caron,

I also will like to setup a case with GM Customer Assistance. I have a 2008 Yukon where all the door actuators (even tail gate) are out except the driver's side door. Also, the back driver side door doesn't even open up from the inside - it has to be opened from the outside. My vehicle is in excellent condition other than that. I bought my vehicle new in 2008 but my mileage puts me over any warrantied work. I'm hoping that you can give me some help on this matter because there is no way I can afford $170 for each door to get fixed. I wouldn't be asking for anything if I knew this was something I did wrong to the vehicle, but it's not. GM installed faulty parts in our vehicles.
    See this post I found: http://www.chefseattle.com/blog/site-news/suburban-rear-liftgate-wont-unlock-how- -to-fix/

I think this person should be commended on helping others out.

Can't GM do something for us? I can't believe that they would risk such a huge lawsuit against them. Wouldn't they want all these people who have complaints to be loyal customers and return in 4, 5 or 6 years to purchase a new GM vehicle again. All I see now, is that if we all know that if GM can't help us with these faulty parts we won't even think twice on puchasing another GM vehicle.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Christina, et al.,

I sent an email detailing my issues (3 failed door lock actuators on my 2008 Tahoe) to the email address in the gmcustsvc profile on 10/19. Can you please tell me when I can expect a response?

    Christina,
I also own a 2008 Tahoe and have had 3 door locks go out in the last couple of months. I took my car to the dealership this morning and they are wanting to charge $335/door to correct the problem, this seem crazy considering the obvious fact that GM installed defective parts with the amount of issues people are having. My Tahoe only has 43,000 miles and in addition to the door locks I am having to replace both of my front shocks, because they are "leaking". That is costing $835/shock at the dealership. Seems like a lot of money to be spending on a car that only has 43,000 miles on it, very frustrating!

    Thanks for your help,

I have had repeated problems with my locks not working and door handles breaking but don't feel like I should pay for repairs on a problem that seems to be GM's fault. This is very frustrating with two small children and having to climb through the car to unlock their doors. UGH!!!!

    Christina,

I too am experiencing the same issues with door lock actuators (two in this case - drivers door, passenger side rear door). I also have a door handle that is coming out of the door (drivers side rear door, normal use). The vehicle is a 2008 GMC Yukon XL Denali. Vin - 1GKFK66818J175694, mileage is 73k, dealer is Greenwood in Hollister, CA. Please advise as this is the top of the line model and when I purchased the vehicle new all I could read about was the "professional grade" quality that all GMC vehicles possess. As I have had a few other quality issues with the vehicle, more quality issues are starting to taint my view on GMC ownership (first time purchaser of GMC, never had these types of issues with several Toyotas that I have owned including a currently owned 2006 Tacoma).

    Thank you,
    Troy

I have the same issue with my 2008 Denali, Both rear locks are now almost dead. I had the driver lock replaced under warranty and now that window squeaks going up and down. I'm loosing patience with GMC

I already sent an email to gmcustsvc, hoping for help.

I have a 2008 Yukon Hybrid and had the first lock replaced under warranty just past the 35,000 mile mark. I now have 42,200 miles and the dealership just called to say they'd be replacing the second failed lock under warranty. I did open a file with GMC Customer Service and notified the dealership of my file number before I took it in for service. Based on what others are saying I was fully expecting to have to pay for this repair but it sounds like the dealer is going to back it up. Glad about that but still concerned about future problems.

I also own a 2008 Tahoe with failing power door locks. 1 by 1 they failed. The latest failed 1 month out of warrantee. this is a disgrace! Gm should offer a recall. $255 to fix a known faulty product on (might I add "not an inexpensive vehicle") a Tahoe with less than 33K on it. I have owned 1996, 2001, and 2004 with no issues like this. You are going to lose loyalty over this one!

it is so sad for gm, now my chevy tahoe LTZ passenger door actuator won't work just like everyone has same or similar issue. i got a same problem. my chevy tahoe passenger door won't work. i have taken to chevy dealership they said it will cost $370 to fix. and it's under warranty i have only 37K miles. when it was under warranty i had bad front shock GM i was bad and other one going bad, i can't believe GM won't authorize the shock to be replace they it's bad yet LOL technican confirmed and it's will go bad withing little time. but according to them it's not replaced. i have got many issues with it. will someone help me to fix these issues. when it's totally GM's fault for putting or installing faulty parts. these are just few issues i have mention here.
it's very for GM not taking care.

HELP HELP please.

Just wanted to update the status of this message. I emailed Chevrolet Customer Service last week about this issue. They called me back that evening and took some information that they passed to a District Specialist. She called us the next day and told us to take it back to our dealership and that GM would provide "some payment assistance". We took it to the dealership the next day. Later that day the Service Manager called and said the truck was done and we could pick it up. They fixed it free of charge and I must say that GM took care of us. Both representatives that I talked to were very helpful.

I seem to be one of many with this problem. I have an '08 Tahoe. The driver and passenger door locks failed after warranty and cost me $300 + per lock to have replaced. The back driver's side just failed and I am not bringing it back to the dealer again. Any help how to order the part and how to install would be helpful. Thanks

having problems with door locks on 2008 Chevy Tahoe. Had one replaced 2 years ago when it was under warranty. 2 years later the replacement and the other rear door are not working. Dealer quoted me $300 per door to replace them. Question I ask is GM standing behind this problem? Seems like there is alot of people with the same problem I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 09 Tahoe LTZ driver and front passenger door locks have failed, also my passenger side rearview mirror has quit working. I haven't been to the dealership about this problem and don't intend on wasting my time until I receive a reply from GM. From the looks of this forum and others, I would think GM would own up to their responsiblity to the consumer and fix these parts with no questions. I've been a loyal GM owner for over 30 years and this might change my mind.
Looking forward to hear from someone.

    Thank you for posting Kimberly,
I opened your vehicle's information and am showing that you have two open safety recalls on your Tahoe. I would recommend making an appointment with McKaig Chevrolet to have these taken care of.

Neither of the recalls pertain to the locks, however.

Please, if you do make an appointment with McKaig Chevrolet for these recalls, send us an email with the appointment date and time and we'll see what can be done with the locks.

Add one more to the list with door lock actuator problems.
Had Passenger rear door actuator replaced a year ago under warrantee and now, 1000 miles past the 36,000 mile warrantee the driver rear door has failed. This is a major pain as I use this truck for work and need in and out of the driver rear door all the time for items I carry back there. no easy way to open it without crawling though the truck from another door.
Talked to dealer and they said if it was the same one they already changed they would fix it but since it is a different door I am out of luck for warrantee service.
Door Locks do not seam to be GMC "Professional Grade" if you ask me.

I am having the same door lock issue as others in the forum. We have a 2008 Chev Suburban VIN:1GNFK16328J231961 and 3 out of 4 doors have now stopped working. We have 52,000 miles on the vehicle and we were told by Titus-Will Chevrolet (Parkland, WA) that the locks are no longer covered under warranty. Can you provide any help?

    Put me on this list,
My 08 Tahoe is having the same problem as the rest of the people on this forum. At 47,000miles the passenger went out, at 54,000miles the pass. rear went out and at 70,000miles the drivers rear went out. So now I'm at 72,000miles and 3 out of 4 doors don't work. I drove to the dealer on monday just to walk out a little disapointed after they quoted me $854. I willing to pay for repairs but not that much. The funny thing is I owned a 2001 tahoe with 167,000miles and never had no issues what so ever.

    Can someone help

oh man i can' believe that.
i explain to GM customer service what's going on, Gm setup the appointment to take my truck to dealership. I drove 200+ miles to dealership what they said here's your quote to fix issues. wow that was simply a joke. GM would not stand behind their product what a shame i just received an phone from GM. GM would not fix the problem even though they are aware of it. since it's out of warranty Gm wont pay for these repairs. i could've pay for myself have repaired. it's cost $300 for this trip all i get is that a quote from dealership. Now is this tease or what from GM, i think this is so childish. GM said, they are going to document this. document what, that they are not going to take care of it. LOL

    WOW

    Add me on this list,
My 09 Suburban LTZ is having the same problem as the rest of the people on this forum, the mechanism wont lock or unlock the door. At 40,000 miles the driver rear went out, at 45,000 miles the passenger rear went out. I'm at 73,000 miles now. My wife drove to the dealer awhile ago just to walk out quite disappointed after they quoted her $500+. Its ridiculous to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle and then have to pay to fix door locks within 2-3 years, I am willing to pay for quality, but I thought I already paid for that when I bought it. The funny thing is I own a 1998 C1500 with 175,000 miles and never had no issues what so ever with the door locks.

09 Suburban LTZ, purchased in March 2009
Purchased from: Henna Chevrolet in Aiken SC
Serviced at Master Chevrolet in Aiken SC (they bought/assumed Henna)
    Vin: 1GNFC36 YX9R200514

The other interesting thing is I am in Baghdad right now, and we have a ton (1000+ I am guessing in Iraq) of Suburbans here for Personnel Security Detail (PSD team) and I would say conservatively that half of them have at least 1 door that no longer works. I am responsible for 9 suburbans and 6 have locks that dont work, all of them have less than 30k miles on them. Neither rear door works on my personal one and the driver door has started acting up as well and it only has 23k miles on it. Maybe I should gather up all those vins and add them to the list as well? But there isnt a chevy dealer here anymore... lol we had a totaled one that I was going to grab the parts from to take home, but the door locks didnt work...

But seriously, this is obviously a faulty part that should be recalled/replaced on all vehicles as it appears it is just a matter of time, so maybe we should all just wait.
  • uscin2003uscin2003 Member Posts: 1
    Same thing with me

"You can pay $96 for the dealer to evaluate your vehicle. Then we can go from there."

Um... no thanks... WE ALL know what is wrong with our cars. We don't need to pay $96 to have someone tell us that. Then pay $300 per door to fix it. What we need is for GM to step up to the plate and do what is right... stand behind their product... If it weren't for the taxpayer money they wouldn't have a product to sell... WHAT A CROCK!!!

Hi, It sure seems like there are two problems here, first the door locks are obviously a problem and second, some GM dealers ( our local one included ) are a joke. Perhaps they have forgotten that good customer service leads to repeat business.

The power locks on our 2008 Suburban LTZ's rear passinger door will not work.

The sad thing is that the dealer ( OBX Chevy in Kitty Hawk NC ) said they'd fix it when we bought the used truck from them almost two years ago. We dropped the truck off several times and they attended to some things on our punch list but never completed it.

I tried to have them call me when the part came in to avoid the 70 mile one way trip. They never called.

I made it a point to call the dealer at least once a month and was always greated with a big ole "Hi Buddy how are you?" followed by the statement that the guy who was handling the issue was right here and he will call me back in a minute. Of course the call never came.

After several months I gave up. They never fixed the doors, never completed the work promised and never provided the DVD system headphones that were missing when we bought the truck. This is our forth Suburban, we have never had such poor service.

Now after finding this article and the response from GM Customer Service I am hoping to get the doors fixed and issues resolved the way the should have been handled the first time.

Please let me know if you can help.

    Bob

I am having the same issue. We bought the car right at 40K used but made a hefty price for the LTZ package. Our first lock went out on the passenger rear side and the dealer near our home where we are having the car serviced rushed to fix free of charge and also fixed chrome pulling away from car on rear driver side exterior door. Now at 55K the rear passenger side door lock actuator is out and they called with a $350 quote + labor. I have asked them to waive this fee since they did it the first time and it is a know issue with Tahoes. I am waiting to hear back, but would encourage the GM and dealer to see me as a long time customer. Tahoe today with one baby and another on the way, potential Suburban in future, etc. and do the right thing. I guess I am put off that I had to ask for the waiver. One hour later and no call back. Keep you posted on the outcome. Surely an off site mechanic can fix it for less the $350? It is a huge safest issue too. Daughter screams because I cannot unlock the door, but I am manually locking it so no one hopes in with us or she opens while driving. So I have to crawl across the back seat to unlock. What a pain. :confuse:

Ok, so update. Got the dealer to waive the charge, whew! Now until the next one goes out!

Needless to say, gm customer service is aware of this but they are taking care of the problem.

they make to 215 miles to dealership now that's one way to have it inspected. delaership wanted 96 bucks to diagnose the problem wow thats not done.

it cost almost 400 bucks for this total trip not to mention time for back and forth. all i get is quote. no thanks. it cost 370 bucks for this door actuator to fixed. now that's just for now we get another and another one, one after another. we know what's wrong with our vehicles. faulty door actuators.
gm should take full responsiblity rather than making people frustrated, what will hapen in the future we will not buy another gm vehicles ever in near future.

door locks are very risky when you have kids on board we dont want to have our kids fall out of vehicle no no no no. may be gm is waiting for an such incident be occur. then they will step in to fix it.

if anyone have any success with GM i would like to hear that.

here is the people who i spoke to her name is may she is the sent me.
may, martin. several others i can't find papers now....

GM CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TOTALLY USELESS. I AM NOT BUYING ANOTHER GM PRODUCT EVER. IT'S MY FIRST AND LAST. I WILL ENCOURAGE OTHERS TOO. THIS IS NOT HOW WE SHOULD BE TREATED. VERY PISSED OFF...........
