Also, you can't really say if an OTD price is good w/o knowing what the tax, tags and doc fees are where ou bought. How about posting what you got, the MSRP, and what you paid before fees?
But, condisering that the MSRP was 30K plus, you seem to have gotten a pretty good discount.

Overall, I think I got a good deal (especially for Fayetteville, NC).
The fact that I drove to the Honda dealer in a 2004 Toyota Sienna probably didn't hurt either....
My wife is a little upset over not getting a 2005, however, since I realize it would probably be impossible to get into an equivalent 2005 Honda for under 30,000 I feel quite blessed.
I will try to look at what I paid for everything....
I put a deposit several weeks ago for an EX-L and was finally able to see one last Saturday. I was shock to see that their markup was $4995!!! I pointed out that Fairfield, Tracy and Vacaville Honda were selling at MSRP but they wouldn't budge for the longest time. As I left, they were offering $500 over MSRP. Today I got a call from them and they offered me MSRP. My sales guy said that things were slow today, so he hammered on the manager to lower the price.
One thing I'm really happy about is the financing. I had financing lined up from CapitalOne for around 4.6%. I also had financing (home equity loan) from my bank at about the same % but a variable rate. When I went to the dealer I was going to use the home equity loan (interest is tax deductible). The F&I guy first offered me the Honda 4.3% fixed rate. Then he noticed that a manager had left a paper from Chase Manhattan which had a 3.79APR. I wasn't expecting to get such a low rate, but everything looked kosher on the paperwork (no prepayment penalty, fixed rate, etc).
Can't wait to take possession tomorrow:-) Thanks to everyone on the newsgroup for your posts and advice!
1. Honda set the MSRP way too high.
2. dealer's lot are just flooded w/ the new ody, 15000 of them already on their lot and keep pouring in. And did they say that it was SLOW?
$1300, $1000 under MSRP were already seen on the very 1st. day. $750-500 under MSRP is every where now.
Sienna is selling almost at invoice, if not under, and trying to get the crown of best selling minivan this year.
The price was $1950 for a $0 deductable. The warranty is refundable if not utilized in the period after the original warranty expires.
I went ahead and bought the coverage. My reasoning is that the variable displacement engine is still a relatively new technology and sounds really expensive to repair.I still have several weeks to decide to cancel and get a full refund.
I got back 6 responses offering MSRP as their “best price.” Some dealers also offered an extra perk (i.e. 5yr/60K warranty, free lifetime inspection, free first service, discount on parts and scheduled service one place offered to throw in the roof rack.)
I don’t know if they are willing to go any lower, but it’s pretty apparent no one should be charging over MSRP.
Chris
MSRP is toooo high for this retiree who is on his 3rd ODY
On the other hand, the dealers won't worry for now if they have not sold the few on their lots. They probably want to keep a few for people to look at and test drive. It helps their showroom traffic and gives them a chance to get the phone numbers of potential customers.
Thanks
Thanks!

Of interest. It sounds like Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale may be able to make MSRP. They were asking 2900 over when I went by the other day. They had my desired vehicle in stock but I w couldn't get them down to MSRP. Last night the saleman called and left a message - sounds like they are willing to talk. To late late for them:-)
Also. I would highly recommend Vacaville Honda. Their internet staff was very friendly and professional. They have always offered the 05 Odyssey at MSRP. Had the local dealership not had mine in stock, I would have went with them

I think we should have a pretty good idea by early November (~6 weeks) how sales are going. If there are starting to be some vans in stock, you should be able to get discounts fairly easily with a little leg work.
If by Thanksgiving I can get a deal on an EX-L for mid-29s (about 1K off MSRP), delivery in December, that should do it. I don't think you will see much better than that before the end of the MY.

Out of curiosity, I called a relative who owns a GM dealership close by. I was shocked to hear that comprable coverage for one of their minivans is $1400. I thought that I had gotten ripped off. He suggested that I call other Honda dealerships in check their rates.
After calling 3 dealerships I found that the price is pretty fair. They all said that the MSRP for the coverage was actuallly $2600! Turns out that all of them offered the coverage for about $1900. One dealership offered $1400, but when I called back they said that it was a misquote and $1900 was the going rate.
I think that if I were more patient I could have waited it out and saved a little money. At this time, though, we really do need the van as we have quite a few visitors coming in the next few weeks. It was a tradeoff between convenience and a few bucks.
Truthfully. I don't believe that MSRP is a GREAT price, but I do believe that it is a FAIR price. I end up with a good vehicle that I could really use/enjoy and the dealership folks earn some money. Sounds like a win-win:-)
You sound like a dealer/salesperson.
If that doesn't change your mind ...nothing will...
As for the terms of the service contract is there a specific point people were inquiring about? The terms section of the contract reads like my tax form and would like quite a bit of typing to post:-( Most of the stuff on there I found on the honda website for Honda Care.
A "dumb" decision for one may make economic sense for another. I have 2 primary options. Should I rent a minivan for the next few weeks at around $250/wk to haul around in-laws, and THEN buy an Odyssey - while hoping the price has fallen to offset the rental? OR should I pay MSRP upfront now and let my family enjoy the van immediately?
If you can wait it out and save a few bucks then by all means do so. I can't recall a situation where MSRP when UP during a model year:-) If you are in a time critical situation, then your options change. Thanks
Oh yeah. Keeping the in-laws impressed adds a ton of bonus points to option 2 :-)
They had one '04 left and we did side-by-side comparisons, driving them both and wringing the seats and features out with three of our four kids. There is no comparison. Add to this the safety features and performance of the new '05, well, the '04 seems a bit plain. I would list all the great features of the '05 but Honda does a much better job on their web site: http://www.hondacars.com/models/model_overview.asp?ModelName=Odys- sey
The '05 is the new king on the block. Sienna's crown has been stripped and returned to Honda. Yes, the Sienna had a lot to do with this new Honda being here, but here it is, and it is worth it.

Interested in getting the EXL with Navi and RES but no one seems to have one in white, one dealer claims he can special order a white one but another dealer told me they just get what they get based on prior sales in the area.
Anyone know the real scoop on if dealers really can ask the factory for a specific trim level and color to be delivered to their dealership?
Which one would you buy?
There was at least one other dealer, but I need to confirm with its sales manager again.
Just a reminder - it is best NOT to post your email address in the boards. 1) if advice is in email, not everyone can benefit. 2) bots/spiders crawl our boards and your email address then gets added to many SPAM lists which I'm sure you don't want. (nothing we can do about this).
We expect to purchase very soon - who knows maybe we can do better.
Hope this helps!
Penske Honda in Ontario is selling for MSRP. I put down a $500 deposit for a touring. I would give you the name of my salesman and his phone number (and ask that you tell him I referred you), but that is apparently against forum rules.

Thanks for the info. I just filled out a Quick Quote request for Penske. Currently Miller and TO Honda are at $3k and $1.5k above MSRP respectively.

Thanks.
