Does anyone know about Ody availability in the NJ area? We would like to have one by May 2001 as we are expecting twins to arrive then and will need the extra capacity.

I live in NW Jersey and we're expecting our 2nd child in April and have talked with several dealers regarding both the LX and EX. I'm being told 4-6 mos. by most dealers. My neighor ordered in the beginning of September and is expecting delivery mid to late February. I went to the Honda web site and e-mailed several dealers yesterday in various states and am awaiting responses. Check out the deal DJ5 got as posted in this forum and you'll see going out of state may be worth it. A dealer in PA got back to me today and told me 2-3 mos. wait with a small refundable deposit to be put on the waiting list. Hope this helps.

I am getting calls from customers from Va that they are experiencing 4-5 month delivery times. We are down to about 6-8 weeks on our delivery times. I dont know why NJ and VA are having problems getting Odys. I AM having a problem getting LX's. On my last allocation we received 25 Odys, 2 LX's, 22 EX's and 1 EX/nav. NJ and VA isnt in our 'region' Balto/Wash DC, that might have something to do with it.

My husband and I are in the market for a 2001 Odyssey LX. We live in Wisconsin and are running into the problem of the local Honda dealers not wanting to negotiate on the price and having a low supply of them. Any suggestions on where I can find a good deal in the Wisconsin Area? We are willing to buy out of state. ie: Illinois, etc. Please help!
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
I don't know about the dealers in Wisc, but here in Maryland the LX's are few and far between. As I said in post#654, the breakdown of what we get here in Md is sku'ed towards EX's.

As far as negotiating on Odys, it really is a supply and demand situation. Good luck!

    gabismom-

Don't know if this helps, but I can recommend Barry at Honda of Ottawa, IL and Rich at Elliot-Demick Honda in Michigan City, IN. I had fair-poor experience with the nearest 6 dealers in the Chicago area. Some were deceptive, others rude, many both. Most wanted MSRP or higher, as some had "Mandatory" options and protection packages. I have read a couple accounts that Jacobs Twin in Chicago may discount from MSRP.

I traveled to Michigan City to get mine. They included the Cargo tray and mudguards at MSRP, and also threw in the Michelin Symmetry tires on the LX (apparently courtesy of a previous buyer that backed out). Very professional and gave me all the details by email. Honda of Ottawa was also professional, and refunded my deposit with no hassles when I pulled out of their waiting list.

Thanks, okey3, for the information. It sounds like PA might be the ticket for quicker delivery than NJ. Did you get an EX for around MSRP from the PA dealer?

We take delivery of our EX next week, and it will have been 6 months wait here in eastern PA. Of course, we didn't shop around for the lowest wait times, since we had planned 5 months ahead for the van to come shortly after child #2. Our delivery is now a month late (the van that is). My brother in Columbus, OH is hoping our van is defective so he can save the day and arrange for me to fly out and pick up one of the many EXs just waiting on the Honda lot down the street from him; discounted of course.

    Hi there,

I live in the Raleigh area and was wondering if you had more information on the dealership in Fayetteville that you bought your Odyssey. Who did you deal with? How long was the wait? Any information would be very helpful. Thanks.

If one buys the car in Canada, can they prepare the car to US specifications?
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
FYI, if you buy a Canadian Odyssey, the Honda Canada warranty CANNOT be transfered to the US. As such, you will have to go with a 3rd party warranty provider, and there are risks involved with that.

Heritage Honda in York, PA said you could expect a 3 mos. wait on an EX or LX. They said they have an Mesa Beige EX unspoken for at this time that is to be delivered in March. MSRP was $26,840 plus applicable taxes etc... Call Scott Morrow the internet sales manager at 1-800-960-9041 for more info. A dealer in Ohio told us 3-4 weeks delivery for an LX and less wait for an EX. We are awaiting more info. from him to confirm this and check references. Also check posting #660 as it may also be of interest to you. Hope this helps.

FYI. If you are a Triple A member, they offer a car buying service. We were ready to order one from the dealer and happened to call them on the spur of the moment. They had one reserved but we had to wait for it to be shipped from Honda. They were competitive ($200 less than the dealer quote)and they'll deliver it to my door! I got the Graphite Green EX and had leather installed for around $29,000. We're in Charlotte, and the dealers will not go below MSRP. Same situation, none to test drive and none are on the car lots.

And, we did not have a good experience with E-loan. Since Triple A was not a franchised dealer, their process was different, which was the same across all internet loan brokers. E-loan would offer a draft which would take 12-14 days for Triple A to get their money. They didn't want to wait and E-loan was almost impossible to arrange an electronic transfer. It was worth the additional $20 month not to deal with them.... There's something to say about working with a bank.

    Hi ACSMITH,

Thanks for the input. Just bought the "Honda Care' for 7 years/75000 miles for $755, no sale tax. The Application for Coverage form has a HONDA CARE logo and words like" If you have not received your Vehicle Service Contract within 30 days , please call 1-800-999-5901 or forward a copy of this application to: American Honda Finance Corp., Vehicle Service Contract Division, PO Box 2225, Torrance, CA 90509 etc. So I think this is really a Honda Care.

Do I get a real good deal???

"By the way,,,I don't see any purpose for 3rd row magic seat, first of all, it was invented by Mitsu on their now defunct '92 Expo, So Honda just copied that design.."

Actually, fold-away seats were being built into station wagons back in the `60s

I just got a quote from a Chicagoland dealer offering the LX : "I currently have (1) LX Odyssey which came in yesterday. It
is white and the only add on is an appearance package, which
contains fabric and paint protection and undercoating. The Price
of this vehicle is MSRP + the Appearance package.
    $24,340.00 + $1100.00 = $25,440.00
I do not expect this vehicle to be here after today, so if you
are interested, Please call me as soon as possible"..etc..

This is obviously some kind of dealer add-on. 1)I am under the impression that I could by a can of Scotch-guard and do the fabric. 2) What is paint protection? 3) Rustproofing: is that for real? 4) What else is in this kind of 'package'?

I am ready to order a LX, with a roof rack (what is the wieght limit?, and upgraded cd, and keyless entry, (is that the only way to get the remote control doorlock feature?).

    Please advise re:the above quote.

    This forum is incredible.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
1100 for an appearance package! WOW! First of all "Scotchguard" from what I understand is not available anymore due to EPA regs. The fabric protectant that we and other dealers use is similar though. Paint protectant is, again from my limited understanding, a polymer coating. Evidently, we here in Baltimore, have heavy concentrations of acid rain so this is popular with us. Undercoating is undercoating. If done properly can be a benefit.

However, 1100 "add on" to an Odyssey is a "add on" plain and simple.
  • cavillercaviller Member Posts: 331
I found the same with the closest two Chicago dealers. They had a nice wait list, but frequently sold vans with pricey add-ons because they got an "extra allocation" or the "buyer backed out". I got calls every week or two with these vans, which I assumed were being sold out from under those on the wait list. Every time there was well over $1000 of protection packages and "Factory installed" options. If you don't mind waiting, I recommended some dealers 10-15 posts back. Might be a bit of travel, but for me it was worth it not to deal with deceptive local dealerships.

As for your appearance package- if you want it today and don't object to such add-ons, then it's not a bad deal. You can probably get the same thing done at Ziebart for half that, and probably less than one-tenth if you do it yourself. For the dealer, it's nicer than saying they have a $1000 market adjustment. Incidentally, most paint protectants I've seen are basically polymer based waxes. You can watch the techs apply them from a bottle with a wax applicator. Some claim you never need to wax again, though you do need to apply their special "re-juvinator" a couple times a year:-)

I am currently waiting for my 2001 SS EX to arrive(without NAV). I put a deposit down on it for MSRP, no add-ons for $26,800 which includes destination charges. It supposedly left the factory on Jan 12, and the dealer said it should be here within 21 days of that.
The dealer just called me to tell me that someone cancelled on an order for a 2001 MB EX wNAV. He said if I wanted it, its mine, and is there. He said it would be an extra $1500. I am tempted to go for it expecially that I see on the honda site that the NAV goes for $2000 over the EX. Is it worth the extra money? Color is not really that much of a factor, but I am waiting for the SS, so the MB is not really my first choice. Decisions...decisions.
Or is this just one more thing that can go wrong?
    What would you do?
  • sam7068sam7068 Member Posts: 28
Lsg1, Go for it, sounds like a great deal. Besides, with all other things going wrong with this Van, Navigations will be the least of your worry!!!..go for it. Just make sure you test drive it and it doesn't pull to the right and the sliding doors open and close okay. One more thing, drive it over 75mph and make sure it doesn't shimmy. We will worry about the dashboard lights and transmission jerks later. That's why you should make sure you buy the Honda Warranty because it comes in really handy. Good news is that there is wealth of information here about this VAN so you don't need to worry.

7 year,75000 mile warr for $755 seems like a good deal. The 100K miles, zero deduct sells for about $900-$925, so the extra $150 extends the warranty 25K miles. I thought it worth it because I drive an obscene amount each year (Wash, DC to the beach, to the mountains, to the very significant other in Balmer (how 'bout them Ravens? ), and on and on, and run the mileage out well before the years. Opinion: youse done good!
  • acsmithacsmith Member Posts: 63
Run do not walk to the nearest exit if you live in the US and are thinking about a Canadian Odyssey.

    1. NO Honda warranty. period.

    2. The speedo has to be changed from KM to MPH. And when they do that, you immediately develop a resale matter--you must sell the van with Mileage Unknown by US Federal law. Thus your future buyer will not know the true mileage. You can plead all you want, but it will create a big problem for you in the future. And if you cover up the speedo changeout, you can get whacked big time for fraud.

    3. There are a couple of things on the Canadian Ody that, while nice, may cause you maintenance matters. Heated outside mirrors, and some other stuff.

Conclusion: I strongly recommend that US buyers stay away from Odys built for the Canadian market.
This is NOT to say that the Canadian Odys are defective, etc. They're built in the same plant as the US versions, but the importing of them to the US causes problems.

What prices have people paid for the towing package??
  • acsmithacsmith Member Posts: 63
Hondapartsforyou.com sells the Honda towing package for about $250 including free shipping. Installation is your responsibility, of course. (and I have no connnection with the parts store.)
My dealer (I get my GG EX next week) wants $425 for it, installed. If you do get a towing package, be SURE to buy the tranny cooler from the dealer or one of the parts stores mentioned in this thread. You can install the tranny cooler pretty easily (about an hour--you have to pull off the cover under the hood in front of the radiator area, and the bumper, but it doesn't seem to be a first water mystery.)

I want a LX mainly because of the reliability
issue of the power sliding doors. Dealer told
me LX is easier to get. Is it true? Anyone know
what is the % of LX Honda makes?

Placed deposit in early December 00 for end of December delivery. Finally supposed to pickup tomorrow. Will elaborate further on details after successful pickup. Supposed to get 2001 LX with 7yr/100k/0 ded Honda Care warranty, complete roof rack, keyless entry, towing ATF cooler, cargo net and splash guards for grand total of $25654 before tax and title. Will post details of transaction and lessons learned tomorrow if our contract is filled as the salesman has promised. Will post the good and the bad depending on how it works out tomorrow. I hope our experience can help others. Discouraged to hear that CR's april issue is supposedly rating the 99 Ody as a used car to avoid. Hopefully the warranty purchase will pay off. Best of luck to other owners and those who are still waiting.

After 1 year of test driving the Sienna, Windstar, T&C, Grand Caravan, Tahoe, ML320, Durango and Odyssey, I placed an order for an Emerald Pearl '01 EX at MSRP from Apple Valley Honda in Wenatchee, WA last August. Though I was tempted by the Acura MDX (wait list too long) and the Sequoia (too big and truck-like for my wife), I decided to stick with the Odyssey (especially since my third daughter was born last week, giving me 3 kids in car seats).

All of the Seattle/Tacoma area dealers were requiring about $2000 over MSRP. Mike Knight in Wenatchee promised me MSRP, though he warned me that I would wait until the end of January or early February. I got the call 2 days ago that they had a van for me, ahead of schedule because someone backed out (mine was built 1/17 with delivery estimated around the first week of February as promised). Although I had to fly there in a puddle jumper and drive 140 miles over snow-covered mountain passes, and I'll have to spend several hours washing all of the dirt and sand off the van, I would do the same thing again in an instant. Mike and Kevin, the sales manager, were as easy to deal with as a Nordstrom shoe salesmen. I got the van at MSRP with no dealer add-ons. I also got the 7yr/100k/$0 deductable Honda Care warranty at a very good price. Unlike the guy who sold me my '92 Accord that tried to force the warranty on me despite my objections, I had to ask Kevin to offer me the warranty (he had drawn up the papers already for me to decline it).

I must say that this was my first positive experience at a Honda dealership in the last 10 years. Honda of Bellevue wasted my time and their dealers have persisted in calling me with ludicrous offers despite my telling them that I will not pay over MSRP. My experiences at Honda of Renton and Kirkland were similarly bad.

So far, I really like the EX. I'll let you know if I have any problems. If you can get to Wenatchee, I would recommend these guys.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Here in the Maryland area it is just the opposite. We have a greater percentage of EX's than LX's. For example, on my last allocation I received 25 total units, 2 LX's, 22EX's and 1 EX/nav.

I would LOVE to have a few more LX's!

Got my 2001 SS EX last week. After a week of driving I have experienced 0 problems. For a van this is an extremely smooth riding vehicle. Radio and CD player is adequate. I paid $25,840 ($1000) below MSRP with no dealer add ons. Drove from Atlanta to Somerset, KY to for the deal with Alton Blakley Honda. I was only a three week wait to get the EX. Barry Flatt my salesman was great. Financed through www.eloan.com for 60 months at a rate of 6.56%. Dealer is willing to sell all Odysseys at $1000. Would highly recommend making the drive.

Today,we found a couple EX and LX Ody's available at Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ. However, they want nearly $2,000 over MSRP. Other NJ dealers we contacted by phone are asking between $500 and $1,500 over but have no inventory with wait lists of up to three months! What to do? Unfortunately, Kentucky (#683) is a too far from NJ. Does anyone know of NJ dealers or in PA, MD or NY with any inventory EX willing to sell at MSRP?
  • javahoundjavahound Member Posts: 17
I have posted a few times that I got on 3 waiting lists in south Jersey and Delaware... all for MSRP. I emailed all dealers within 100 miles and had great success. After 3 days, I got my MB EX, from Martin Honda in Newark, Delaware. I was also contacted by Union Park Honda in Wilmington, Del. 2 days later for a SS LX. I can give you details if you want to email me. But, you can go to Honda.com and look up dealers in your area.

I have just begun my search for a EX ODY at MSRP. So far I have contacted several dealers in North Jersey and prices ranged from 1500-800 over MSRP. Two of the dealers had a van available on Friday and the others averaged a 4-6 week wait. It appears that they are not as scarce as we are led to believe. I had one response from a dealer in Queens NY offering MSRP with a 2 month wait. I may take that offer as it would not inconvenience me to take delivery after the worst of the snow season. I will post my progress as I narrow down my options.

We live in NJ as well and contacted several dealers and had the same experience you did. I contacted Burne Honda in Scranton, PA as my in-laws live in the Poconos. I spoke with Dave Campfield - the internet sales manager. He said he is expecting (two unspoken for)Starlight Silver EX's due for arrival this week. They only require a $100 refundable deposit. We put down our deposit today for one EX so if your interested in a SS EX I wouldn't wait. He gave it to us for 26,400 + $15(for a 30 day temp. tag). The MSRP is 26,840. We secured a good deal through e-loans.com at 7.39% APR. Dave said they generally have a 2-3 mos. waiting list. Dave Campfield's e-mail is dcampfield@burnehonda.com. The phone # is 1-800-822-2210. Let him know that Kevin O'Connor refered you. Hope this is helpful to you and keep me posted on how you make out. Good luck!!!

"We secured a good deal through e-loans.com at 7.39% APR."

Does anyone know how a site such as e-loans.com
actually functions ? Two weeks ago it offered a
rate well under 7 percent. Since then, the Fed
dropped its rate, new economic indexes showed
a downturn, automobile sales have stagnated, but
the e-loan rate offer went up. Why would that
    be ?
  • mhermizmhermiz Member Posts: 3
I here ya, i have been watching myself and seen the same thing. Eloan is just a broker that works with many banks, I believe that they have to get all the banks that they are working with to agree to a percentage (and still make money) before they can drop it. Some kind of banking deal I guess. I happen to be talking to my mortgage broker the other day and he says that the fed dropped its rate but those were long term loans. The economy is slowing (at least in the minds of the quick to sell stock brokers) so this would increase the rate which is why Gingrich (spell?) is suppose to drop the short term rates (credit card, car loan, etc.) by the end of this month. This supposedly will boost the economy because of guys like us who are more willing to buy because of lower interest rates. So be ready for that time. It should drop below 7% by then. At least I have my fingers crossed.

P.S. Sorry, that kind of turned into a ecomomics lecture there but I guess I have been too engrossed in the subject lately.
  • faure1faure1 Member Posts: 7
Thanks very much for the tip and referral; we'll let you know how it works out when we (hopefully) hear back from Dave tomorrow.

Regarding home equity loans, I started the e-loan process yesterday (Saturday) using LendingTree.com and three lenders are vying for the business so far (Sunday). During the business day tomorrow, I expect to get some offers and rates, which I'll post up here. Haven't tried the E-Loan site yet, but if LendingTree.com doesn't yield a low rate, then I will give that one a whirl as well.
  • lessilberlessilber Member Posts: 10
Over the past weeks I have noticed the best rates come from the Ohio Valley. Why is this? More importantly, when are the other dealers going to catch on? I can live with $1,000 below MSRP with no add-ons.

Where are the airports near the dealers in OH and KY located?
  • flujjflujj Member Posts: 1
I have heard of dealers in the Baltimore/DC
area selling Odysseys BELOW MSRP. I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the right
direction to track down these dealers.
  • alysaalysa Member Posts: 5
I know the big airport by Cleveland is Hopkins. We're flying in to pick up our GG LX for $640 under MSRP this Saturday. If we're lucky enough though, a friend who's a private pilot will be flying us to a smaller airport - Cuyahoga - instead.
  • kelsenkelsen Member Posts: 10
mhermiz, Gingrich (spelled correctly, btw) drops wives when they get ill; the fellow who has the most to do with dropping (or increasing) interest rates is Alan Greenspan.

I purchased my EX for $25,840 plus TTL, $0 doc fee ($1000 below MSRP) from Alton Blakley in Sommerset, KY. When I asked about installing mud guards they told me they had already installed at no cost. The closest airports are in Knoxville, TN and Louisville, KY. Both are about 100 miles from the dealership. You may be able to talk them into meeting you at the airport.

They are a great dealership with no b.s. and no additional mark up with phoney dealer add-ons like pin stipes, paint and seat protection.

We rented a car (one way) and drove 350 miles from Atlanta to pick up our Odyssey. This was about a 10 hour drive both ways, but the scenery in the Tennessee and Kentucky mountains was beautiful and we took several breaks.

From the time I talked to the dealership until delivery was less than 3 weeks for the color we wanted. I saved approx. $2000 by driving to Kentucky versus buying locally in Atlanta.

Did our own financing with e-loan, so we were in and out of the dealership in a little over an hour. Most of this time, the salesman spent letting us drive the van and going over all the features.

The finance guy handled the e-loan paperwork without a problem and no pressure to buy an extended warranty. In my opinion, a waste of money but I can understand others wanting it for peace of mind.

I asked them if they would make this same deal available to others and they indicated they would.
In fact, I think someone who read my posting earlier has contacted them and got the same deal.

If you decide to go that route tell them that Dennis and Laurie from Atlanta referred you.

It's a great vehicle. Good Luck with your purchase.

I haven't heard of anyone selling Odys for less than MSRP in Maryland or DC. What I am hearing is that wait time are starting to increase, due to increased demand.

We are still at 6-8 weeks delivery...and cant seem to lay our hands on enough LX's!

I spent several months looking at & contacting dozens of dealers in Ohio/ KY area for a 2001 EX. The most I could get was $150 under M.S.R.P. & I thought that was OK, given the market demand. I had spent hours in these dealerships with a measly $150 discount to show. On a whim, I contacted Autobytel.com & received a $500 discount from a dealer that wouldn't budge on price earlier the same day!!!! Anyhow- it is definitely worth the time. I'd guess that this would be available everywhere??? Good luck!

I purchased my '01 GG EX ODY at Pohanka Honda in Fredericksburg, VA., and get delivery late this week. Janis Pohanka and I negotiated a cost of $925 for the 7yr/100K miles/0 deductible warranty. I showed her the printouts from this thread, and stated that I was definitely buying the warranty, and I'd prefer to buy from her. She came back and stated she would sell it for $925. She said that her cost was $825, they pay the salesman (saleswoman) $25 and keep $75 for the paperwork processing. For $25 ($925 vs $900 at other Honda dealers), it wasn't worth it to me to go to another dealer. You are welcome to call her and you can mention my name (Arthur Smith).
