you should get many years of enjoyment from the ferrari of minivans
but the eagles will need a lot of luck to beat a far superior team like the PATS
just be glad they get to go to the superbowl don't let their defeat ruin your trip lol
I love the midnight pearl (black) with ivory (tan) interior and it is a gorgeous car - waiting for the gold package to come in this week so it should be awesome looking. I've been surprised at all the positive comments I'm receiving on the van's appearance as minivans are usually not that exciting. I'm really enjoying the sunroof this time of year and have not had a moment's of buyers remorse - it is awesome compared to my previous Chrysler Town & Country.
BTW - we did better selling our existing car outright to Carmax instead of trading to a dealer. I highly suggest anyone get a Carmax appraisal first if there is a location near you so you can negotiate from that price if you are not selling privately.
I'm new to the car buying market. Wife and I are looking for a 2005 Honda Odyssey -Ex with Leather and RES in southern california. Can anyone shed some light on a dealer that is willing to sell for less than the MSRP? Several local dealers in my area stood firm on the MSRP...so we walked out!
this service through my credit union did not specify which dealership they were using....
Anyone else have any better results in Southern California?
342.00 MV fee
199.00 doc fee
96.46 window etch fee
15.20 tire and reg fee
This sounds extremely high? what your opinion?
I am happy with the price for the Odyssey, and feel this is fair for both parties. But the MV DOC fees is crazy.. For those that have purchase with this dealership, what kind of fees were you seeing? because at 652, that could be a deal breaker.
If so, buy it. If not, go elsewhere.
Whether or not this store charged the same or different "fees" to other customers is, I believe, irrelevant here.
My sister and I (separately) both concluded deals on '05 Pilots at the same store on the same day last month. Guess what - my price was $1000 better than hers.
Why she called me minutes after she left the dealer is something I'll never understand...
Here is the strategy I used:
• First and most important, read the Edmunds.com prices paid forum to see how much people are paying and which dealerships are offering low prices.
• From Honda.com locate dealers within about 200 miles.
• Email dealers found on the forum and Honda.com. Total sent out more than 50 emails.
• Dick Brooks Honda agreed to beat the lowest quote I got by $200 to get to the invoice deal.
Send me an email and I can give you the name of the person I worked with. He seems to be very straight-forward and patience, great guy. My husband, (a manufacturing engineer) spent about one hour inspecting and test driving the vehicle. He downloaded a checklist from Odyclub.com. The salesman stayed with us the whole time and explained the different features to us. The dealership is located in a small town and they are working out from trailers for now due to expansion/construction of their dealership. Do not expect fancy showroom.
If you live in Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA or even Raleigh, NC definitely try Dick Brooks Honda.
Thanks for everyone that posted their deals on this forum!
Robertson, Goudy, Miller, and Spreen all were quoting below MSRP (use the internet - don't talk to a retail sales person)on the EXL Nav/Res - I would think that the model you are looking for would be priced accordingly, if not more agressively. Of course, I am not up to date on the current inventory situation but I can't imagine it is worse vs. December.
"In late December, the best quotes that I received came from Robertson (NoHo), Miller in the Valley, and Goudy in Alhambra. Goudy is #2 behind Norm Reeves in sales volume in Cal (and 4th largest Honda dealer in the country so they have large allocations). The OC Dealers weren't dealing. It's month end so you may want to hit the dealers that are owned by publicly traded companies (Carson and Buena Park - Sonic), the Miller dealers - Group 1, and the Power dealers - Valencia and (maybe) Costa Mesa. Spreen in Loma Linda was pretty aggressive too. As long as you are not looking for Res/Nav, you should be able to score a vehicle at a reasonable discount. Good Luck!!"
Invoice for the EX-L R&N is less than $31,000 on its $34,610 MSRP.
I will never understand why people would do that, if one could buy exactly the same policy for $1,070 in a matter a five minutes over the phone or Internet! It might seem like an insignificant amount at the time of purchasing a $30K-$40K vehicle, yet the same person would go out of their way and spend hours trying to save $50 the next day on their next TV or DVD player. Many consumers are beyond irrational!
I guess the odds are fairly low that anything would be wrong with the van...but you never know.
When I ordered a Toyota Sienna I told the service manager I wanted to test drive and inspect before going thru with the purchase...he agreed.
ALWAYS, without fail, someone will come along and rain on their parade by telling them how they paid too much or how another person paid less.
I just don't understand...
I'm not sure why other members want to rain on a happy shopper's parade, but hopefully the happy shopper is still happy!

A $4,000+ profit on this van is too much, no matter how much some salespeople want readers here to believe it's the norm.
And there IS a happy medium between squeezing every dollar out of a deal and leaving $4K on the table.
Just because a buyer is uninformed, doesn't mean he isn't happy.....
Once the deal is done...I always say,"congratulations, fantastic, great deal,oh...thats a great vehicle...super color"
Because that's what I like to hear.
If I were a potential buyer, I would want to know. I thought the purpose of this forum was to educate buyers and compare prices paid. And comparatively, the price paid was high. Hopefully, I saved someone else out there a few (thousand) bucks.
Yes, do that IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE, but it doesn't help anyone in the Prices Paid public forum. In fact, if someone pays $3,000 more than they should and you post a message saying "great deal", you just screwed a 1,000 people who see your message and think that THEY should pay that much too.
See the difference between raising someone's self-esteem and improving ability of other buyers to get a great deal?
If I were to sell my house today, I would probably net about 400,000 in profit. Sorry, but that's the current market.
Let's keep this Prices Paid & Buying Experiences and not "did the dealer make too much" or "should people really be happy unless they bought under cost".
Thanks!
If I drive it off the lot of dealer A, can I contact dealer B the next day and still be eligible for the warranty? Is there a time limit?
Is there value in getting the Honda Warranty vs. a third-party Extended Warranty?
Many thanks to the forum members for the great info.
I personally wouldn't get an aftermarket warranty. Too many horror stories of getting claims denied, not getting approval, or flat out going out of business.
But, the Hondacare requires you (I think) to use a dealer, but I would want to anyway if I wasn't paying for it!
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
So to the buyer who could have paid less but is now enjoying the perfect ODY, ENJOY! Meanwhile, to those who haven't purchased, the bargains are out there! Information is key! (PLEASE don't, under any circumstances, purchase an extended 7/100k/0 down warranty for more than $1069.00...Sam Swope Honda World of Louisville, KY and Pohanka Honda of MD [to name just two] are selling these warranties at $1069.00!!!)
And to those driving 2+ hours for the "perfect" deal, NO THANKS. I'll take my 500+ invoice deal fifteen minutes from my house and keep the local economy going. Good luck to all!
and "someone will come along and rain on their parade by telling them how they paid too much or how another person paid less. " He wants to restrict information about price.
I disagree. This forum should encourage information including price information. Why hide price? Price is one very important factor in determining value. A salesman wants to suppress information. We expect that. We expect a salesman to make excuses that support whatever is in his best interest. Buyers and owners interests are better served with more price information.
dulnev,I wouldn't tell someone "great deal" on Edmunds unless they were close to it. The point being I would try to say whatever positives were applicable. The idea that 1,000 people would pay $3,000 more than they had to by simply reading my"great deal" post is ridiculous.

Tonight I had a store offer to sell a Touring R&N for invoice ($34,558). Unfortunately, the dealer is out of town and the color, while acceptable, is not my first choice. Using that figure for leverage, I went to my local store and will hear tomorrow whether they are interested in my business.
Maybe some of those threads can be unlocked so that we have a place to take any "off topic" discussions.
I'd greatly appreciate some info about Ody prices in and around San Jose, CA. I'm looking for an EX-L with RES (no Nav).
The best price I got from an internet manager was $30,750 from Vista Honda (Southern Cal). That's $1750 over the invoice. I'd rather buy locally, however.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
The quotes I've getting were about $1500 over invoice for an EX-L Odyssey and they are not willing to go down much further.
Is it real that some people actually paying only the invoice or less than $300 over (~$27,500)? Any new tricks?
Thanks, this forum is really great, helped a lot of people!
Any other Northern California 05 Ody buyer share the prices/quotes? Althought the market here is outrageous, relatively good deals are still something we can findout.
EX-L RES/NAV - $30,963.76 (invoice)
document fee $100.00
Ohio title/temp. tags - $25.50
total $31,089.76.
I subsequently added fog lights ($392.94) and day/night mirror ($288.72) using Classic's service dep't (prices were after 10% AAA discount was applied). Was going to add subwoofer ($360.90), but it didn't arrive in time.
I made the deal on Mon., 1/3/05, having decided on trim line the previous Friday and aware that Honda was closing its ’04 year on that day and that dealers had certain sales figures they needed to meet. (see post 7858). After learning that my options within a 2-hour drive were a) $500 over invoice but no delivery for many weeks (and thus no 2.9% financing, which expired 1/5) or b) buying an in-stock for $3,100+ more, I received a call from the Internet sales mgr at Classic, advising that they needed to book sales that day to reach a Honda dealer incentive level and that she would sell at invoice an Ocean Mist EX-L R/N that was due to arrive in a day or 2. (It actually arrived the next day w/5 mi. on odometer, built 12/23.) After considering the fact that I would have to take the train there (around $135 for the family, but a 10-hr. train) and drive the van home 6+ hrs., or have it shipped, I took the deal. (We had just turned in my wife's company car, so we needed a car ASAP.)
The dealership wanted me to fly in so they could record the sale that day, but that was impossible. To enable the dealership to book the sale that day, I offered to wire them the purchase price and they agreed to return it when the financing was in place (we intended to obtain the Honda 2.9%).
Although Honda first offered 3.9%, I had the Internet service manager go back and get 2.9%, which she did.
In addition to the unusual nature of the price at that time (invoice on the last day of the year on a trim line that was in great demand), the delivery of the vehicle turned out to be unusual. My wife and I decided that it wasn't a good time for us to take a weekend trip to pick up the van and decided to have it shipped for $275. The scheduled shipment--arranged with an outside shipper--fell through about the same time as the Internet sales mgr called to advise that she had just learned that the contract between Honda Finance and the dealership requires that all financing papers be signed in person before a representative of the dealership. (Apparently the Patriot Act requires that banks and other financial institutions take steps to verify the identity of anyone opening a new account.) At that point, all of the papers had been fully signed by all parties (we had signed before a notary public), and we were not in a position to come to pick up the car.
So, in order to fulfill Honda Financial's requirement and preserve our 2.9% deal (Honda Financial's quotes must be consummated within 10 days), on 1/13 the Internet sales mgr, an irrepressible grandmother, singlehandedly drove the van over 6 hours--partially through rain--to our house, and then rented a car and drove back--through rain and punishing snow--the same day, arriving shortly before 2 am. Only days earlier, she had delivered a van 2 hours away after it arrived at the dealership later than expected.
The Internet sales mgr never tried to sell me any extras, and, without discussion, put "N/A" next to the lines for gap insurance and simoniz on the contract.
She was very patient, answered a multitude of questions, and worked very hard to ensure a smooth transaction, even though there was little if any profit in it for her. Her efforts to deliver the vehicle were extraordinary.
I hope to buy from her again (I'm looking for a used BMW convertible, and the Classic group sells many brands) and would recommend her without reservation.
Many thanks to those who recommended Classic and those who posted prices on the board for your invaluable assistance.
I've been monitoring Dealers around the Bay Area ever since the new Odyssey was available last Sept.
I don't know why, but dealers in and around San Jose, CA want close to MSRP prices for the Ody! Way over what I read from other parts of the country in this forum.
Recently I've sent emails to the dealers around the Bay Area and here are some of the Quotes I've been getting:
Vacaville Honda:
2005 Honda Odyssey EX $26,988
2005 Honda Odyssey EXL $29,499
2005 Honda Odyssey EXL-RES $31,399
2005 Honda Odyssey Touring $32,999
Hayward Honda:
2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES $31,410.00
Tracy Honda:
MSRP
Anderson Honda, Palo Alto:
$500 under MSRP
South Bay Honda, Los Gatos:
$1300 under MSRP for an EX or Touring(no RES/Nav)
Stevens Creek, San Jose:
$MSRP and very firm about it. I wouldn't recommend these guys.
Capitol Honda:
This was a while ago and as I remember it was $400 off MSRP.
Gavilan Honda, Gilroy:
$500 under MSRP
Hopkins Honda, Sunnyvale;
$500 under MSRP
I don't see many new Odysseys on the road around here in the Bay Area compared to the new Sienna and the old Ody. I don't know why the dealers are still selling them around MSRP.
Please let me know if anybody sees a better deal. I'm looking for $1000 over invoice, which I think should be a good profit for the dealer counting the 3% kick-back. That's almost $2000 in their pocket.
Thanks to everybody again.
If you care, according to other posts on this and other boards, you apparently can cancel the warranty within 60 days for a full refund. I would imagine you would then be free to purchase the same warranty for $1,069 at another dealer (see other posts). (Even if Honda Care imposes some sort of restriction on repurchasing the warranty, the fact that there was a misrepresentation by the finance person should permit you to rescind the first deal--the misrepresentation being that you had to buy it then. My understanding is that the price remains the same until 1 year/12k mi, then goes up very slightly until 2 yr/24k mi, when it rises more substantially.)
Thanks.
I ended up deciding to go with a dealer in Oregon which is a bit of a trek for me and my family but we're turning it into a weekend trip with a leisurely drive down the Oregon/California coast over the weekend. He's quoted me $1800 over invoice on the Touring R&N. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly but have my rental car reservation just in case. ;-) Either way, we have a nice drive down the coast.
Thanks to everybody on this forum, it's been very helpful and educational to listen to the bickering, er, comments. I'll report what happened when I'm back.
