Originally the van was supposed to have about 300 miles. But one of the buyer's wanted the vehicle trucked so mine didn't end up with any miles on it. I had 16 on delivery.
One thing the dealer mentioned is that if the van has say 500 miles on it, the warranty starts from 500 not from 0. So your 36000 mile warranty would run to 36500.
I felt bad for not buying from Jack O (another dealer closer beat their price). It's good to reward dealers for such aggressive pricing. In my opinion, small town dealers offer better prices compared to their metroplex kin. For some reason the metro prices were all clustered together in the same range.
I just purchased a 2005 EX-L and think that I got a pretty good deal, but just wanted to throw it out here for discussion for a couple reasons. First is simply my curiousity...second, and most importantly, is for any others in AZ (Phoenix) who are in the market for an Odyssey.
Here is how it broke down...
-- $29,600 total purchase price
-- I was trading in a 2000 CR-V. Kelly blue book on it in "good" condition was $10,200. It had a cracked windshield and the black molding on the back was scraped. They gave me $10,500 for the trade.
-- Everything I could find down here for rates on the Odyssey from various dealerships was 4.9 for excellent credit. They first came back at 5.29 or something and I explained that I knew I could beat that. They couldn't beat through Honda financing, but their finance guy outsourced it through another lender and I got 4.19 for 60 months. (although I opted to go with 4.54 for 66 months, just to lower the payments a bit more)
So, in a nutshell, $29,600 for an EXL, they gave me $300 over book value on a trade, and 4.54% for 66 months....now for the experts....was it a good deal like I believe it was?
I ended up purchasing the vehicle at Earnhardt Honda in Avondale and it was a great experience...great people...great sales guy, etc.
Thanks for your input!
Darin
And I was thinking lapnorm1 bought a Touring+DVD+NAV!!!!! :-)
Read the title carefully, that price was for an EXL-RES which is the same as a EXL-DVD. So relax don't burn up too many brain cells thinking you can get an EXL-RES-NAV for that price.
We haven't purchased yet but so far John Eagle wins overall with price and professionalism. Freeman offered best initial price that was then beat by John Eagle. Rusty Wallis and David McDavid (Frisco) seemed pretty straight up though they didn't give the best price up front they seem to be willing to compete.
We plan on buying in the next week so I will let you know how and with whom we go.
Does anyone know if more production is expected?
for EXL is 28000+TTL. I got a quote from John Eagle
for 28300.
I am itching to sign the deal, but I would love to
have my family to take a choice of the color this
weekend.
Guys... Am I getting a good deal? It is $450
over invoice, I still hope people have seen
invoice dealers in DFW.
Thanks
Beware of Lute Riley...we bought a car from them several years back and they tried adding in extras once I got there. Before visiting, get the confirmed drive out and find out how many vehicles they have at that price. Hopefully their way of dealing has changed.
If you want contacts from the other dealers I am talking with, I can give them to you. John Eagle has been great so far. David McDavid is more convenient so I am thinking we will be making the deal with them.
Thanks a lot for your information.
I heard bad stuff from Rute Riley from my friend
as well. Actually, I am not expecting much, the
28000+TTL looks good and fair in the DFW area.
I will wait and see how much trick they will
put into the paper once I have the color decided.
Although there are some people who is willing
to bid up the price, dealers are having too much
expectation on the profits.
For those who need contact person for
Rute Riley, I can certainly offer that to you.
Hence the extreme reluctance to discount it and by the way the Silver Pearl I own is worth every penny imho, beautiful job on ergonomics and drive experience compared to the 2002 and 2003 I had before.
I was going to fly up to and drive down from AutoFair, because their prices were soooo much better than down here. But then I decided that I was willing to pay $500 to avoid that trip; I e-mailed 13 dealers in North Central FL, telling them I'd pay Autofair's price + $500. Most of the dealers that replied said no way, but three said they were willing to go with that price.
The salesman with Jon Hall Honda (Daytona Beach) seemed the most straightforward, and we went with him. He got the red LX we wanted in a day, but said that the least accessorized red van he could find in the area had mudguards and pinstriping - hence would cost an extra $100.
Maybe I'm naive, I felt he was being honest, and we agreed to the price: $23,849 for everything but tax and tags ($748 over invoice) -- not a fantastic deal, but not bad for FL, I think. We made the purchase yesterday, and everything went smoothly.
Invoice (increased Feb 14th): $29,386 (inc. dest)
Team Honda: $30,276
Gwinnett Honda: 30,335
Has anyone come any closer to $500 over invoice? I'm holding out for $500 over invoice.
I am still thinking about the extended warranty, but don't know how to restart negotiations. What figure should I be looking for on that?
I offer $100 more than the autofair price and my local dealer took it right away. To me, it's a fair price (I've been using that dealership for service and their service department had saved me many $100 over the years) If you haggle, you can get a popular equipped model and color at autofair prices in most MA dealerships. Especially with all the #$@%& SNOW!!!
Have you searched outside of the DFW area? I blasted a bunch of dealers using the hondacars site. This is my experience with the dealers you are dealing with..
McDavid Frisco: THey start with a price close to MSRP and say they will match a competing offer. But they add accessories on the van.
John Eagle: Provided a decent quote. Not low enough.
Lute Riley: I'm so upset with the internet sales person, I didn't even bother asking them for a competitive quote. They seem to be a bit arrogant.
Vangergriff: The internet dept never gives out a price. Always want's you to come to the dealership.
Huggins: Their prices see-sawed in a month. From 900 over invoice to 1900 over invoice. So I don't know what's going on there.
The best deals I got for my EXL-RES was from out of town. Fenton Honda of Ardmore (400 approx over invoice) and Jack O' Diamonds of Tyler( 500 approx over invoice). Depending on what part of dfw you live in they are about 2-3 hour drive. But with the $700+ difference in prices, I had no problem driving.
Someone on this board followed my suggestion and got a good quote from Jack O. I think it was around $600 over invoice for a Touring(? + DVD + NAV).
Good luck.
I personally would do business with dealers who quote a low price versus those who quote a high price and drop it for a competing offer.
As I have been sharing the list of quotes I received with many forum members, I would like to report the results that others get from Dick Brooks in the past month. 4 forum members have reported back to me that they have purchased from Dick Brooks in Greer, SC.
* Two purchased EXL at invoice. Including my own, that will be 3 EXL's at invoice.
* One purchased at $900 over invoice. Model not reported back to me.
* One purchased an EXL with RES. Price not reported back. wesumc, are you one of the members that I emailed?
So seems like Dick Brooks is still worth looking into for those that live in NC, SC, and GA.
If you are interested in getting the list of quotes that I received and the contact at Dick Brooks, just send me an email. I will be happy to share it with you.
According to the guy at David McDavid, he was giving it to me with whatever was already on it for the $28k. I was very explicit that I was going in, paying no more regardless of the extras. Now here is the kicker, evidently another sales person sold the one I was working the deal with while I was on the phone with my sales guy. They are bringing another in for me to pick up tomorrow. I will definitely let you know how it all pans out.
Regardless, I am just glad to know what kind of deals others are getting their Odyssey's for.
I had actually read your post and got quotes from Fenton (OK) and Quintana (Paris, TX) and other dealers outside of DFW but they gave quotes the same as the local so I didn't pursue it further. I wasn't looking for the EXL-RES so maybe they are willing to move more on that model than just the plain EXL. If all works out, I will be getting the EXL right at invoice (based on the new invoice price of course) or about $400-500 over old invoice. Seems like that is the best deal people are getting around this area, yes???
We are also trying to get as close to invoice on a E-XL RES in Minnesota. I have sent out about 20 emails for quotes this week but the lowest offer I have gotten was $31,600 + TT&L. Could you share any dealers in the area that you have worked with that you think have been fair? It sounds like we are facing the same challenges here in the Midwest and could maybe learn from each others experiences so far. I will travel to Ohio or Chicago if I have too but would rather find a deal locally. Email me so we can compare notes (my email is in my profile).
Thanks
Very good to deal with.

EXL-RES Slate Green
$29,972
Tax/Fees and the typical BS fees
Out the Door $32,107
Picked a vehicle they had coming in
Price includes Window tint, Mud Flaps
Probably could have saved $200 more if I pushed the issue. The sticker on the window includes recent price increase.
My experience:
Vandergriff Honda - internet/fleet sales. Contrary to another post, I was able to do all of my negotiations over the phone (probably since we live an hour away) and my salesperson was very nice, helpful and up front throughout the entire process. We exchanged many phone calls and finally agreed to a driveout price of $25,200 (including TTL) before we ever met in person. When our Ody arrived, it had the $200 markup in MSRP, but negotiations were done based on old invoice price. Vandergriff internet/fleet sales was a pleasure to work with, and I wouldn't hesitate to refer others.
David McDavid of Frisco - we may have bought here if they could have found the color we wanted, but it didn't work out. They were willing to match and/or possibly beat other offers. Also up front and low pressure.
McKinney Honda - would not recommend at all. After contacting internet sales who would not give me a price over the phone, I went there and waited a long time (on a weekday afternoon in an almost empty showroom). After I stated the prices I had been quoted elsewhere, they did not even want to talk. Apparently they don't sell to informed, internet buyers. I was disgusted that they wouldn't even give me the time of day, but that's their choice. I won't be sending any business their way.
In general, LXs are not in demand and therefore you should be able to get a good deal on them, especially if you are looking for anything other than midnight blue or silver colors, since there are plenty of other colors in stock.
Thanks, slyk
The "out of the door" price with everything was about $29300. I live in Nashville, and they even delivered the car to my home (230 miles from the dealership). I would highly recommend them to anybody.
I also tried to buy an extended warranty from Pohanka. I have sent them my info but have not got any reply yet, and they did increase the price. The 7/75000 costs $845 now.
$27034 and $27548/27550
Anyone have the scoop on which is accurate OR do you have the actual dealer invoice?
Thanks from ATLANTA...any leads on GA dealers also much appreciated.
Yes it is $35133 +ttl. Drive out was quoted at $37,513. I have not yet decided on any dealer installed extras or extended warranty at this time, if so that would of course add to the cost.
Dealer is Jack-o-Diamonds in Tyler, TX. I got my quote thru e-mail from them. I simply requested that they send me their best quote on the vehicle and that it was a cash deal (going thru my bank)and no trade in and ready to buy within a week or two and thats the quote they e-mailed me back. No haggleing back and forth. It was far better than anything else I found in my area (TX)so I jumped right on it.
I believe my price was quoted right before the price hike just recently. Also I had to e-mail them a couple times with my request before they responded.
Good luck, slyk
