It depends if you purchased the vehicle new..a new retail registration is a mandatory 4 year registration..if you are leasing, the registration will go according to how many years you will be leasing. So, it can be anywhere from $200.00- $400.00. If you transfer your plates, it should be a lot less than 200.00. Besides, the dealership is suppose to give you any monies due from overpayment on registration fees. As for DOC fees, I think that's close to alot of other dealership..the one I work for is 129.00.

Just to let everyone now, that at least in NJ, I don't know about other states..dealerships usually use a book called Galves to get they're trade in amounts. They never go by KBB or Edmunds..

I am about to purchase ody ex cloth and have financing for 60 months and with regard to this, is purchasing extended warranty a good idea? Also, what are wheel locks for? I'm in the north/northwest chicago area. Several dealers have quoted 25,500-25,900 for ex-cloth. Is that a good price? Thanks, anyone.

Please let me know,if this is a good deal

    I got a Quote from a dealer
    Ody EX-L NAV+RES - Silver
31,682 +TTL -This Includes destination charge.

I got couple of other quotes all in the same range. What should be the ideal price to start with for this van?. :confuse:

    Appreicate your help
    Thanks

I'm not quite sure why you are tying the idea of an EW to the duration of your financing unless your thought is that you don't want to get hit with any unexpected expenses while making payments.

Inasmuch as your powertrain warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles, no, I don't see an EW as imperative.

I can't recall anybody here (or elsewhere) claiming an '06 EX price lower than $25,500.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
That's an ok price - I believe that the best anybody has reported anywhere in the country has been a shade under 31K.

If you're getting quotes all in the same range, that should pretty much tell you what the local market is.
  • metsin06metsin06 Member Posts: 15
The price I quoted was the average retail paid for trade-in, so the price they were paying for the trade-in was $2475 less that it should be. Of course that can vary a little bit, but it was still a ridiculously low trade in.

Here is a long story about my internet buying odyssey :( . I did all of my homework and got quotes from 8 different dealers on an EX-L. One quote was ~ $1,800 less than the next cheapest "plus applicable fees". I sent e-mail to them asking them to itemize the applicable fees in writing and specifically stated "I don't want to be hit with hidden fees when it comes time to pick up the van". They replied with a list of the usual fees and an additional fee of $400 for etching charges. I figured it was still $1,400 less than the next best quote, but called and asked about the $400 fee and he agreed to waive it. I sent back an e-mail with a spreadsheet showing the (quoted price + dest charge) * tax + DMV and TTL with the final out the door cost and said that I was interested in the van at that price.

I called the following day (Saturday) and asked if I could pick it up on Tuesday so they would not waste time on a low profit sale like mine on a busy Saturday. I was surprised that he told me that I could pick it up that day even though my financing was not finalized.

I went in and we sat down and talked and the salesman went into the back. When he came back lo and behold he had given me the cost of the EX instead of the EX-L “by mistake”. Needless to say I was stunned and furious. I told him that I had his quote in writing and sent the spreadsheet with all of the fees detailed and the out the door cost and was told to come in and I expected them to honor the quoted price. After some debate he brought over the closer/manager and he tried to explain that he had given me the wrong cost..... I told him that the reason I was doing an internet sale was to eliminate the usual dealership games and wanted to come in, sign papers, and take the van home. I insisted on them meeting the quoted price and they finally agreed, although in a different color than I wanted.

He then brought out papers which I signed for the agreed upon OTD price and he returned to the back. Twenty minutes later he returned with new papers with an OTD price of $180 more. Nothing was said about the extra cost-the papers were just handed to me as though they were additional papers to sign. The top line price was less than the quote, but the etching fee was added back. I was incredulous and almost lost it at that point and demanded that they now meet the quote and for the color I requested. The salesman told me that there was a mistake with the accounting and that if I didn’t want the van at that price I was free to walk. I told them I had a quote in writing and that they would meet it. The closer came back and told me that I was getting a better deal because the top line price was less and that I was one of those people that was never satisfied. I said I’m paying $180 more. He insisted it was a better deal. I asked where Allen Funt was because I must be on Candid Camera. He told me we have no deal and I said that was fine and I would spend some time in the showroom every Saturday mingling with the customers and telling them about my experience. I also told them if I were to relay this on internet message boards, they would lose a lot more money. For some reason they did not seem to mind.

There was much more debate over the next few days, but to make a long story less long, I finally got the van I wanted at the extra $180 price. Final OTD cost of an EX-L was $28,560 which is an excellent price. This is a warning to everyone that even though you do your homework and get quotes and everything in writing, you can still encounter the usual trickery when you get to the dealership.

You didn't say what dealership this was...

Thanks to the forum, I've finally purchased the EX-L RES yesterday with "confidence" based on your experience and feedback.

This is in the Northern VA area.

2006 EX-L RES (DVD) with the wheel lock, mud guard.
    Slate Green Color

    OTD price $30300

I'm a bit disappointed with the service due to the fact that we have agreed on the price over the phone based on several quotes that I've previously received. No financing required. However, it takes much longer than I expected. Yes, I still have to go through the "back/forth" game.

    Glad it's all done!!!

what's a fair price for an EX-L OTD, including taxes..just the van, nothing else?

Looking to buy EXL RES in South Jersey / Philly area in the next couple of days. Please suggest dealerships that are offering good below invoice deals.
    Thanks
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
The price was $32,000 (incl dest) + tax + tags - trade (Piazza of Pottstown). OTD is meaningless since every state has different taxes, fees, etc.

Make sure you know these cars have a humming or booming noise at 2000 rpm @ 50-60mph. You may be disappointed. I bought car anyway because it is still the best van for the money.

Keep us posted if you decide to buy. If you notice a noise make sure to tell the dealer or American Honda when they call you for a survey. Apparently, Honda will not get Engineering involved unless a majority complain.
  • blackexv6blackexv6 Member Posts: 503
31,682 + TTL is a great price. If it is near your house - buy it. You may save another $100-200 bucks somewhere else but is it worth it on a $32k car?
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
    metsin,

good for you that you stuck to your guns and got (pretty close) your deal. Your story doesn't surprise me one bit.
And I don't believe for a second that the dealer "made a mistake".

I'm curious if you would ever return there to buy another car?

I just bought the 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY. EX-L RES NAV METALIC SILVER
I did read a lot of messages in this forum and went there with the consumer report pricing. The deal was closed in 5 minutes.
    This is what I got.

    31250 + 280 DMV registration + Tax
    Total 34150 OTD

    Did I pay too much?

    thanks
  • donm23donm23 Member Posts: 12
I really don't understand this at all. You're raving mad, they tried to screw you, you're going to do all sorts of bad things to them and then . . . you buy from them at a higher price than the one quoted???? What is wrong with you, man??? Don't tell me the deal was just too good to pass up. They are all working with the same numbers so, if one dealer would do it, so would the one down the road.
  • metsin06metsin06 Member Posts: 15
They wanted me to walk out the door. They quoted a price to get me in and figured that I'd fall for their silly games and accept the additional charges or if all else failed, they would just say no deal, which they did. But Homey doesn't play those games so I insisted that they meet it or I'd cause problems. The cost they quoted me was their internet price for the EX and I got the EX-L. I paid $28,560 OTD which no one would touch. If any dealer would do it, show me one person on this board that got an EX-L within $1,000 of that price. Walking out would have let them off the hook since they lost money on this vehicle.

I will not purchase another vehicle from them and I will be getting my Ody serviced at a different dealership.

I recently bought a 2006 Honda Odyssey EX L with DVD and Navigation. 30674$ including destination, + taxes
from Crystal Lake Honda. It offered the best deal. Internet Manager was a pleasure to work with
    The Navigation system is awesome.
  • cuongcuong Member Posts: 45
cuong, I went by John Eagle and test drove the Ody. I got a quote of 31,874+TTL (total OTD 34,140) for EX -L/E/N.

That is the same price when my wife call to John Eagle and talk to regular sale person.

We went to Russell and Smith on Saturday got the van within 2 hours. As I mentioned before, their internet quote was $31,000 for EXL with NAV/RES. I visited their web site and print out $100 off coupon, so I paid $30,900 for the van. The total drive out was $33,084 (not sure the last two digits). Their van does not come with extra dealer add-ons like John Eagle. When you sign the paper in the finance office, they will offer add-ons stuff but you can easily decline the offer.

The buying experience was much better this time than when i bought my Accord in 1998 and '05 Odyssey for my Dad last year.

What was the price without TTL? Did you finance the vehicle through the dealership?
  • dc_driverdc_driver Member Posts: 712
    We get it...

I think this is against the rules of the forum, even though you are trying to help you may also be a greasy sales guy who quotes one price via the Internet then changes his/her tune when someone comes in to do the deal..
  • foxleafoxlea Member Posts: 1
Just went to the dealer for an EX-L with DVD. They said 30,796 including destination fees. Good deal?
  • tom477tom477 Member Posts: 42
was that price with destination and tax included? or was it without tax?
  • tom477tom477 Member Posts: 42
forgot to add...I'm on Long Island, New York and I am looking to purchase a 2006 EX-L..was hoping to come in around 28000 OTD....sales Tax is 8.625 % in NY..so I'm hoping around 26000 for the van..figure late June @ 28 th of month..think I can do better?
  • duperduper Member Posts: 127
I got several quotes after using Edmunds to request them.

Fremont Autowest quoted $29,196. I stopped by to check out the lot and they have several with Sage Brush color which the wife like. But I couldn't get a hold the guy so it's not confirm yet.

Another place quoted $29,988 for an EX-L with DVD. Confirmed it but the second email she sent was a different price.

A few other places sent in quotes but 5-600 hundred more that the 2 above.

The NAV looks so nice. I may jump and go with it.

Anyone from San Jose Bay Area that bought one recently that want to share the price?
  • tom477tom477 Member Posts: 42
actually..you pay sales tax in the state you bought it in...if the sales tax is higher in the state you live in, you pay only the difference in sales tax when you register it.. I've bought 2 Hondas in Arizona and paid the difference in sales tax when I registered themat home in NY..hope this helps

I'm interested in buying an '06 EX-L with DVD. What's a good price for Queens, NY? I'm looking to finance and have no trade-in. I was quoted 29K by a dealership, but I'm assuming that's for the vehicle only since no mention made about taxes, title, reg, etc.
  • justgotacarjustgotacar Member Posts: 4
I bought EX-L RES NAV from Capitol Honda, San Jose on Sunday,
31250 + DMV + TAX (color Silver perl)
I think if you buy before the end of the month, you might get a good deal. I would say start bargaining from 30750 and make your way up, but don't pay more than what I paid.
  • pjsjrpjsjr Member Posts: 4
I am buying an Odyssey in the next 30 days in ct. I have gotten several offers from local dealers. EX-L prices have been $28300 to $28658 including destination. Internet prices from Schaller, Watertown, Shelton. Schaller was lowest $28358. Brewster Honda in New York offered $28300. Let me know what you get. Good luck.
  • duperduper Member Posts: 127
justgotacar, that's a good price. I'm thinking of similar ballpark too.

The above price I mentioned of $29,988 is incorrect, it was $28,988. I figure the NAV is about $1,800 to $2,000 more so if I can get it for under $31k I'll jump on it.

    Capitol quoted me $32,600.

    Thanks

    I'm new at the forum.
I'm picking up my new ODY EX-L+RES tomorrow. Paid $29,800 which includes destination, DOC fee, Mud guards, sunvisor, lock nuts, cargo tray.

    Is that a deal?

    Thanks
  • justgotacarjustgotacar Member Posts: 4
Catitol gave me 31980, but I said I am getting better deals from others, then he said he can beat the price if I take the printouts of other dealer's price. The lowest I had was 31680, I showed it to him and bargained on the price I wanted. But I think since this is towards the end of the month you can pretty much get 31000.
Just use the trick I did. Ask him what's the best he has to offer. Then tell him your price and tell him you will shop around for your price. If you don't get it anywhere you will come back to him and buy it from him.
Do let me know your price after you buy the van. Also try San Leandro and Hayward Honda if possible.

    cheers
  • duperduper Member Posts: 127
Capitol came back and quoted 31997. Do you think 31000 is a do-able as it's under invoice. Has anyone got EX-L RES+NAV for under invoice in the Bay Area?

    Autowest came back with 31473.

I'll probably hit them up with a counter offer.

    Thanks
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Actually, the generally rule (applicable in over 40 states) is that sales tax is only collected where a vehicle is titled.

However, you do make a valid point about the situation where one's home state has a higher rate - one that I overlooked in my prior post. Given New York tax rates, I can see why you're intimately familiar with this!
  • bigmomobigmomo Member Posts: 3
Just went to Northern NJ dealer (Bergen County).

    EX-L w. DVD
    Buy = $30,800
    Lease = $462 / 36mo, 12k, no cap reduction

Price seems average, especially since I'm a 3rd time repeat customer.

Any feedback on prices is appreciated...
  • justgotacarjustgotacar Member Posts: 4
In any case if you decide to go with the model you should definitely not go beyond what I paid (31250). Does not even make sence becos that price is doable. Now how much lower than 31250 you can go is totally upto your nogotiation skills. It took me 2-5 minutes to get him down from 31550 to 31250 :)

In fact the salesman I bought from is still probably desparate because appearently I was his first sell of the month (on 23rd April).

They are robbing us blind here..damn politicians..school taxs run around 4k..and they are looking at a 27% increase if the school budget passes and 19% if it doesnt..so many school districts are getting caught at misappropriation of funds that it's unbelieveable..oh well

Hi. Did you purchase a 2006 EX-L yet? Can I ask where and for how much? We are considering one as well. We are trying to decide between this and the Sienna. THanks!
  • hhewhhew Member Posts: 3
I got few quotes. The best one is
    29226 + 144 ( flash guard) + 149 ( sunvisor) + dmv+tax = 31171.46. Is it a good price?.
It is less than Invoice+destintaion ( 29146+550) price in edmunds, or KBB.
This is from Route 23. Paramus is not far behind in terms of numbers.

    Appriciate your thoughts.

I was looking for the backup sensors, which are running around $900. I am not sure about them.

    Thanks
    Hari

My CT prices are coming in around the same. One offer for EX-L from MA came in at $27,800 OTD minus taxes. I'd like to end up with EX-L RES for $28,500 excluding taxes - that seems about right.....
  • hhewhhew Member Posts: 3
I finally got this, which I think, may be a good price to take.
    29000 + 1135 ( 121 flashguard + 296 ( Casette Player) + 718 - Backup sensor ) - 30135 + tax + dmv = 32477.6.

I hope, I am not overpaying this. This is from Mahwah Honda.

Didn't get any addons. Went to or talked to 3 dealerships including one in VA. Best price quote I got was invoice ($26102) at Crown Honda in Durham, so I got my local dealer to match it (Leith). I paid invoice + dlr doc fee of $398. Found this forum afterwards unfortunately, cause it seem some people here are getting well under invoice, though not in NC. Crown seemed unwilling to go any lower, and I don't think Leith would have gone that low if I hadn't had competing quote. Anyway, just FYI for all. Don't pay more than invoice and maybe negotiate down the doc fees.

Just finalized my purchase of a 2006 EX-L from Brookdale Honda in Brooklyn Center, MN. I got it for $28,528 + tax and title. It's a bit above what others appear to be paying elsewhere in the country, but still appears to be an OK price.

They gave me a good value on my trade ($500 more than I was offered elsewhere), so overall I'm pleased with the numbers.

I worked through their internet sales department after requesting a quote online.
