The Sage Brush is gorgeous when clean and the sun is shining brightly while the Ocean Mist looks very attractive whether the sun is shining or not.
The Ocean Mist Metallic is the first blue color of ANY manufacturer in many years that appeals to either my wife or myself. The grey cloth interior appears to have a bluish tint in the Odyssey EX. Much nicer than the dull grey cloth of the DC or Sienna minivans.
EX-L Sage brush/olive interior:

Again thanks this forum, especially Soglvan's information. Aslo strong recomend Penske Honda to everyone.
My father (who lives in FL) needs a minivan. Although I have an Odyssey, I've been trying to steer him toward something else because he REALLY needs a power passenger seat and a power liftgate but wants to stay well under 30K. However, it appears he has rejected both Chrysler and Ford and is now focusing on Honda.
If he goes with an Odyssey I might have to get one here and take it down since I can't recall anyone recently reporting an invoice price deal in Florida.
While not as good as some other prices around the country, Florida has been a tough market for Odyssey shoppers and this shows the effect of supply and demand in easing prices.
I want to buy EX-L.
What's your APR?
Thanks for sharing information.
I get my loan from our credit union for 3.75%. I did ask is there any special APR promotion. The answer was No.
Good luck!
I don't think so since about the best rates out there now are around the 6 % rate.
I was pretty happy with 5.7%. The folks that are getting in the 3% range, how many months are you financing for? I seem to recall somebody mentioning that they got 3.75% but that the loan was only good for 48 mos.
Thanks for your reply.
But the sales man I contacted told that he can not give EX-L that price.
I mentioned about myhondas purchasing price. He told me that there is no record in transaction that price. He demand the name of the client. But I can't know.
Could you send me the name of sales by e-amil?
Thanks.
Best experience I've ever had. Went through their internet sales dept. Lightning fast response, beat every other emailed offer from a Houston Honda dealer by $500.
But that's not all.... We'd gone in to buy one in March, but they couldn't get the color I wanted. But we weren't in that big of a hurry, so agreed to wait until this dealer got one in - they said 4 to 6 weeks. We had already agreed on a price that was about $300 under invoice. Last Thurs. I called to see if it was in, and they said it would be in the next day. "Oh, and by the way," he says, "I've dropped your price some because the invoice price has dropped." Not expecting much, I was still happily surprised.
We go in Friday night to get the van, and ask him what the final price is.... He dropped the price $1000 from what we'd agreed to pay in late March. Now that's a good deal for a brand new Ody touring w/ Nav.
If you are in the market for an Odyssey in the Houston area, check out Russell and Smith Honda through their internet sales dept. Best deal I could find, and a great experience overall. :shades:
Also I do not think only one speical saleperson can give you that price since I sent quote request through their website w/o any saleperson's name.
Good luck!
I am in market for 06 Odyssey .I went to one of the local dealer here in Triangle area (NC) and he quoted me $ 30485 msrp on EX-L , another dealer quoted me $31573 OTD for EX-L w/DVD. Can someone please provide tell me what is the approximate prices for the following trims that is consider a good deal.
1) EX-L
2) EX-L w DVD
3) EX-L w/DVD/NAV.
Also i like to know where can i obtain dealer invoice prices for these vehicles. Thanks for your assistance.
- Email as many local Honda dealers as possible. Let them know you are serious and are looking for the best price on a Honda EX-L (you can either email them directly or through Honda.com.
- Ask them to send a breakdown in costs and include ALL dealer fees.
- Take the top two or three responses and then see which one gives you the best price.
- When you go to the dealer, ensure that you bring the quote with you and that there are no additional fees.
- Do not feel pressured to buy anything additional. You can always by extended warranties and accessories at a later date for much less (usually).
- If you can wait until the end of month, some dealers are more willing to make a deal to move some inventory.
- Invoice is a good benchmark as to how much you pay (you can find all the invoice prices here at Edmunds). You should be able to pay either under of close to invoice (including freight) for an 06 Odyssey. I definitely would not pay MSRP.
I used this technique for my last three cars and have been very happy. The Odyssey EX-L I purchased one week ago (Hendrick Honda in Northern VA) I was able to buy at the end of the month for $590 under invoice (including freight).
Good luck!
We purchased from Holmes Automotive in Des Moines, IA and they were great! I had submitted a few requests for bids, and gotten back numerous prices. The dealers here in Omaha, NE weren't coming down much, and so going a few miles down the road to save $1,000 looked like a good deal.
The folks at Holmes basically asked what price they needed to "earn my business". I told them if they could do $27,500 we'd have a deal. That was it. They matched a doc fee of $50 from another dealer. When we got to the dealership there were no games or hidden items. We were literally in and out in less than an hour! Final price, $27,550 plus TTL.
I would also highly recommend the Consumer Reports service. For $40, you get a 3 month subscription, which we easily made up for in the purchase.
Getting quotes from online was also really helpful. The quotes from the local dealers weren't great. I'm guessing this is partially because they had my zip code and wanted to get me to come in.
Well, good luck to everyone ready to make a purchase. The vehicle is great. Thanks again to everyone who posts on this board with helpful information.
You will love this van, I find myself coming up with excuses to drive it even though it is my wife's vehicle...
Price : $30,200 + Tax + DMV
Color : Slate Green with Olive
OTD : $33,008.
Looks like you can get great deals for Odyssey now in the bay area. Im sure we will see under $30K deals for this model in 2 weeks. Happy Hunting !!
I financed through Credit Union.
Your price is good. If it includes freight it is a little more than $200 under invoice. Not bad. You could try to wait until the end of the month. The great thing about VA is we have a 3.17% tax on vehicles. I was also able to get 5.7% financing through Honda (same rate as my local credit union).
BTW, I love the Nighthawk Black. It looks really good. I just traded in a black car and decided to get a differnet color since it is so hard to keep clean. Good luck!
Did you guys buy yet? Where did you wind up? How much did you pay? I have always found Schaller in New Britain to be good to deal with but I am open to new dealerships if the price and service are right. I am looking for a 2006 EX-L without RES and NAV. Thanks for your help.
Paid $27,235+TTL. Total drive out price was $29,182.55. About $1025 below invoice. Not bad for a Honda! We had agreed on a price that was $925 below invoice. They also applied the $100 internet coupon I took from their website.
The buying experience was awesome. Russell and Smith folks were fantastic and no pressure to add on anything else. Got a decent APR (5.85% for 3/36) and was very happy with the service. I will definitely recommend them to friends and family.
Thanks to all on this forum for the excellent feedback. If not for this forum, I would have ended up paying $1500 more. Special thanks to DC_GUY for the excellent commentary and feedback, and also to CUONG for the Russell & Smith recommendation and the $100 internet coupon tip.
Now its time to enjoy my new Odyssey! :shades:
So, lets say a dealer get 3% holdback on a $30K vehicle. That would be $900. In most states dealers also charge "processing fees". In VA where I live, most of these fees range between $200-300, and none of the dealers that I worked with were willing to waive that fee (some may, just not in Northern VA). Some states like Maryland have limited this fee to $99. So, if you factor in the $900 holdback, and the $300 processing fee, the dealer has made $1200 for selling a van at invoice.
Manufacturers also sometimes pass along incentives to dealers on a particular vehicle which will allow the dealer to sell vehicles below invoice as well. Some of these incentives are general knowledge (rebates) and consumers can use them to bargain, and some of these incentives are not. Typically, you will not hear of too many incentives on Honda vehicles for the first 1-3 years on a particular model generation (if ever).
While I can understand people like me being able to get an Odyssey for $500-600 below invoice at a volume dealer, I am not sure how dealers are making money by selling Odysseys for $1-2K below invoice unless there is an incentive of some kind between Honda Corporate and the dealer that is not advertised. I imagine there may be some other incentives as well based on how many vehicles a dealer can move off the lot for the month/quarter/year, but again, these things are not usually general knowledge so cannot be used in negotiation. Although this does explain why some dealers will suddenly offer lower prices at the end of the month (which is when I try to buy).
Again, if you get an 06 Honda Odyssey at or below invoice, I think you are getting a good deal if there are no incentives available to the consumer. Hope this helps, and I am sure some other folks can share some more info. Especially holdback. I am not sure what Hondas dealer holdback is on the Odyssey. If it is 5%, the dealer has more room for negotiation vs. 3%. But remember, at the end of the day, the dealer needs to pay the bills, pay his employees, and put food on the table....
Just passed the break in period of 600 miles. So I need to take it on a long trip to test it out.
My OTD was $30750. A lot of dealers I talked with said this was a great deal and they wouldn't match it. It took me about a week to negotiate this price by calling A LOT of dealers. I am happy with it. What a terrific car.
Congrats!
I would like to get your opinion if this is a good deal or should I negotiate something below the invoice?
Please advise...
Price : $30,200 + Tax + DMV
Color : Slate Green with Olive
OTD : $33,008.
That is a very good deal especially for SF area. I didn't try San Leandro Honda when I shopped for mine. You got it for $1k less than I did. Nice.
Hendrick sold me an EX-L for roughly $600 UNDER invoice at the end of April. Let them know about your deal in NJ, I'd be surprised if they did not beat that offer (plus that saves you a trip to NJ).
I think you can get under invoice if you try hard enough. Also, buying at the end of the month tends to help. Again, I definitely encourage you to contact Hendrick's Internet department (calling them got me an even better price than the email quote I originally received).
Holdback does not fall to the bottom line as profit. Far from it.
"But remember, at the end of the day, the dealer needs to pay the bills, pay his employees, and put food on the table...."
I was simply trying to explain why some dealers are able to sell vehicles under invoice if there are not any rebates or incentives available to the consumer. But I am going to be honest here. I do not feel bad at all for the dealer that I bought my Odyssey under invoice. The dealer will easily make $2K+ off my trade-in, and I will have my Odyssey serviced at that dealership as well. In addition, I have two friends and co-workers that have since purchased Hondas from this dealership becasue of word of mouth.
Just two years ago in Northern VA, folks were paying $1-2K OVER MSRP for Odysseys and were getting the runaround from dealers. I experienced this from a Honda dealer as well when I was looking at the current generation CRV when it first came out. Several local dealers that I went to wanted $1500 over MSRP. This is the way it goes. There are many worthy competitors (06 Kia/Hyundai, Sienna, future DCX van coming next year) in the minivan market right now, and Honda dealers are no longer in a position to sell the Odyssey above MSRP.
Most overhead isn't directly attributable to each unit the dealer sells... Those are big numbers that are spread over the entire inventory... The more the dealer sells, the lower the overhead for each individual unit, but it isn't a dollar for dollar amount... and, other than the dealer, no one probably knows exactly what that number is.
However, holdback is a specific amount the dealer receives for each vehicle... He sells more, his revenue from holdback goes up an equal/proportionate amount.. and, it is an easy number to calculate..
Any per unit amount the dealer receives increases his revenue and profit. As consumers, that information is beneficial when negotiating a price.
When someone wonders how a dealer can sell below invoice? many times, holdback is the answer..

kyfdx

Dealers in this area add to the bottom line profit by the " NOT SO LITTLE item called "Documentary Fees" that now range from $ 249 to $ 399 per vehicle.
I really like what the state of Maryland did. They passed legislation that set the limit on these fees at $99. I think more states need to pass similar legislation to protect consumers.
Atleast here in Houston almost all of the dealers have a large inventory of Odyssey's on their lots (most of them over 30) and that is probably why they are willing to move on the price. Good luck with your purchase...
Not sure if your dealer or local banks have any special rates available, but I recommend arming yourself with this information.
When OTD prices or price after trade-in are stated, there are too many variables for an honest comparison.
It surprises me to read that a 2006 Odyssey can be purchased at or below invoice since the Odyssey is still very much in demand. Honda has made it simple to decide which well equipped Odyssey is just right for a consumer.
Toyota does not seem to be able to generate the enthusiasm for the Sienna that has existed with the Odyssey since the 1999 model appeared. Probably because of the very confusing, long list of options for the Sienna where many options are NOT available for many parts of the country.
