I agree, EX for $25,300 is pretty much rock bottom. I bought for $25,650 at end of February, as my initial offer of $25,350 was not agreeable. If you keep the negotiation quick and simple, you have your best opportunity to get your number. Everybody wins and nobody gets worn down.

There are intangible incentives that factors in to the equation and timing is always important. The dealer would not likely take the lower number, unless he is sitting on significant inventory or is not making his numbers.
It is our duty as an educated consumer to have these and other facts in our arsenal.

Just got my Odyssey few days ago after extensive research on this board. No other dealer wanted to touch my price but Pete with Sherwood Honda in Delray Beach. I was really impressed with the deal, he was very prompt with replies, price was alway exact what he wrote in the email, no games or gimmicks. Not only you get the best deal ( and I checked with at least 7 other places )but Pete gives all the Internet customers free certificate for 6 day Carnival Cruise ( I just made a reservations for mine:-) For honest best deal (my deal was $28,353.50 plus tax OTD on EXL no RES/Nav)and a free cruise contact Sherwood Honda Internet Specialist Pete ( cannot give his contact info due to rules here, just google :-)
BTW, I am not his friend or family, just satisfied customer, in case you felt funny about my post - Jakub, South FL.

    Hi Fan....

Check my post from about 2 months ago...#14700.

Went with Leith Honda and the internet sales guy was pretty good. Felt I could probably squeeze another $200-300 out of him at the end. Autopark doesn't budge. Crown got back to me a week or so after I made the purchase and would throw in 1-2 cheap extras (wheel lox, mud flaps)

EX-L, Nav, RES, Slate Green, $33,200 out the door.

    Ken :)

Has anyone received "invoice sheets" (showing VIN, color, invoice price, major equipment, etc.) prior to purchasing the minivan? I'm in the process of negotiating with dealers and have requested the invoice sheet, so that I know exactly the vehicle being offered, but none of the dealers are willing to send it. Has anyone received any confirmation of the vehicle in question from dealers besides an e-mail when Internet shopping?

    Hi,
This is a great forum for starters like me. Is this price $25,300 inclusive of dest charges? Can someone advise what price should I be buying EX or EXL to be called an excellant deal. Appreciate the feedback in advance.
    I am in NJ.

    Hi,

For EX, I know definitely that you should not be paying more that $26100/- includes dest charges and dealer added options.
If you are good in negotiating, you can start at $25,500/- .The dealer will definitely leave room for negotiating the added options which cost around 800/- invoice.
I am not the price of EX-L , but one thing with ODYSSEY is that any trim level, you should get atleast $5000-$6000 below MSRP .
For April 2007, Honda has 0.9 % fin for 2-3 years and 3.9 for 4-5 years.

    Good Luck.

Thanks hmet for the valuable inputs. Can you please enlighten me about dealer added options. I was under wrong impression that Odyssey comes with standard features only. So if I understood you correctly, I should not pay beyond 26,100 plus sales tax and any documentation fees. (26,100 should include both dest charges and options.)

After reading a million posts here I walked into my Dealer, slapped down my paper w/ offer of 28K for an exl, 11.8 trade for my 03 wrx!

I drove out 2 hours later having paid 35K for a touring w/ dvd& Nav. Window sticker 39,600. So much for preparation, determination....
I love everything but the 17.5 tire size.

Well guys, I am sorry to say that my deal with the dealer in Dallas fell through. We had the deal in writing, our financing in hand and we loaded up our 3 kids and headed the 2 1/2 hours south. We get there and had to wait on the dealer, took the van for a test drive and fell in LOVE with the EX. They took my SUV in for appraisal (we pulled PLENTY of reports showing what trade in value/private party etc is so we knew what not to take and what to take) the salesman came back with $4k-not acceptable. They came back again with $4700 and said that our reports were just guidlines to go buy and not actual trade in appraisals. So we ask what they found was wrong to not come anywhere near the $7500 we KNOW its worth, they asked us whether or not anything was wrong. So, we walked out with no deal. 6 hours wasted ( 2 1/2 down and back and 1 at the dealer) Overall it was a pleasant expierence except when our salesman got the finance manager to come talk us in to going with American Honda Finance-which we would NOT do because we had financing in hand. Finance guy said we ought to lease the van, its basically what we've down with our trade. This finance manager would NOT take no for an answer. Guess by looking at us (3 kids with a 4th on the way) we wouldn't walk away-guess we showed him.

Thanks for the advice, and maybe at the end of the year we'll try again, esp when we're hoping they'd be harder up on getting rid of the 07's to make room for the 08's coming out.

What's the problem? If you KNOW that your SUV is worth $7500, just sell it for that and go buy the van.

Oh, with gas hitting $3.00 per gallon that might be a problem.

    Yep, you certainly "showed him."

I am just quoted following. Is it a good deal in NJ?
    25495.00 Price
    595.00 Destination
    1826.30 7% sales tax
    354.00 4 yr reg
    199.00 Documentary fee
    7.50 Tire tax
    28476.80 out the door

Quoting out the door pricing by itself is kind of pointless without stating your sales tax rate so that we can work it back to a pretax price. It could be a really great deal if your tax rate is 5% or higher. If your rate is less than that, then you have done OK. Try to take advantage of the 0.9% financing if possible. That's just money in your pocket over regular financing rates.
  • Options
    lookingforvanlookingforvan Member Posts: 22
Sorry , Sale Tax Rate is 7%.
  • Options
    4bearhug4bearhug Member Posts: 52
That would make your pretax price about $27,100 which is a killer deal. You've done very well if that's a brand new unit w/o miles on it. I don't think that you're going to improve on that price. Let us know how it works out.

So...I've requested quotes from all the dealers and they are all within $50 of eachother.

Best so far with everything included (destination and documentation)except sales tax is $28,853 for an EXL...nothing more than mud flaps and a trunk tray for options.

I was HOPING to get under $28000. Nobody is budging through email. Am I likely to get someone down to 28k in person or over the phone?

I presume that MOST of the people who check these posts are dealers...so if you are a dealer, I would appreciate if you didn't tell me that $28853 is a GREAT deal and I should snap it up.

Also...somebody quoted me 2 different prices, one for an 07 pre-January and a price 200 higher for an 07 post-January. Just cause Honda raises the 'invoice price' does that really mean the dealer pays more?

How many dealers did you contact? Are they all in the St.Louis area? I would suggest that you widen your area of contact to draw in more competition to the process. I would also make the dealers aware that you know 1)dealer invoice 2)dealers holdback 3)that there are better deals out there and you're willing to drive a couple of hours to save $800-1000. It may not change many dealers approach, but it only takes a couple of dealers to lower their pricing to where the competition should get you down under $28K. Even if you really want to buy locally doesn't mean that you can't use a competing quote from another city as leverage.

I did everything by email so I didn't get suckered into the dealership run around. In fact, I never gave them a phone number so email was the only way they could respond. It worked well for me. I would avoid any dealership trip until you've got your pricing locked down.

I know that you can get better pricing in Chicago, even though that's quite a distance from you.

Just bought a 2007 Odyssey EX for $26,000 + license + accessories for a total out the door of $26,497. It seems that only the dealers on the periphery of Portland are willing to accept this deal. I bought at Ghresham Honda in Troutdale, received positive response from both Capital Honda in McMinnville as well as Sterling Honda. I sent inquires to all of the local dealers which come up through the Edmunds local dealer inquiry. The dealers closer in would only go as low as $26,600. Didn't even get a response back from Beaverton Honda. I would recommend that you test drive the very vehicle you are purchasing. I went through 4 Odys until I found one which did not have a rattle in the back of the vehicle. Take a friend to sit in the 3rd row seat during the test drive. You cant hear the rattle from the front. Also one of the Odys had significantly more wind noise then the others. If you think a car is noisy ask to drive another one. TEST DRIVE!! TEST DRIVE!! TEST DRIVE!

Hi I had just make offers of 25880.00 (including destination) for EX to different dealers in columbus ohio, and got declined. And the dealers were explaining their invoice has increased to 26584.00(including Destination) and the holdback is only 2% after Jan 07 which is 574.00. The number from the consumer report car pricing report I got is invoice+dest charge 25580 and 891.00 as the hold back. Is this not current anymore, and I should believe the dealers and increase the price? THanks.

Not sure about the invoice price, but it does appear that holdback is now 2% on Hondas. I've heard that from too many sources to think that it hasn't changed.

It sounds as though you've determined the market price in your area. 28K sounds unlikely.

Invoice did indeed go up in January (so the dealers are paying more) and holdback went down.

I rather crossed the bridge and drive to Union NJ to get one.

I need help in buying Odyssey. I was looking new one. But one of my co-worker is leaving and he is planning to sell his new Odyssey. This is basic EX 2007 model with no optional features and 2700 mileage on it. He also has 7 year warranty from Honda. He is offering $27000. I have couple of concerns :
-Is this a good deal or if I negotiate how low I should ask?
-Basically I was looking for EX-L with RES and Navi. How big deal to install RES on this model? Does it give same performance as was factory installed?
-Is there a major difference between EX-L and EX? I know these : EX doesn't come with "Active Control Engine Mount System (ACM)" and "Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™)". How important is ACM?

I appreciate if someone can help.

The best price I've seen for a new 2007 EX in my area (Wisconsin) is $26,200 + TTL. For an EX-L, the best I've seen is $28,000 + TTL. You are not getting new, but you are getting a better warranty...assuming it's actually transferable.

Can't help you much with RES or NAV since I haven't researched getting either option.

Things the EX-L has that EX does not:
    -leather seats
    -moon roof
    -heated front seats
    -VCM and ACM

I think ACM is only available on the VCM models because they are noisier than the non VCM-engines. In other words, the ACM is simply not necessary on the quieter EX trim.

This is no bargain at that price. You could buy a new EX for less than that and get the color combination that you want. Even though it only has 2700 mi. it's still a used vehicle and has depreciated. View it that way and do some research on used car prices on Edmunds if you decide to persue it.

    cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, 27K is too much. At 25, it might be a close call.

There's no point in buying one without Nav if that's what you want. Adding an aftermarket RES will not save you much, if any, money and carries some significant potential downsides.

The differences between the EX and EX-L are, basically, that the latter gives you leather, a sunroof, and slightly better gas mileage. How important is ACM? It's not, IMHO.

I am in the market for a 2007 Ody Touring with NAV/DVD. Pacific Honda promised to match my lowest email quote of ~$34.8K+TTL if I bought one of their in-stock vehicles the same day. I went with my wife and kid and spent over an hour filling up some paperwork, choosing the Ody color etc. Around that time, their New Car Sales Mgr discovered that there was no way they could keep up their promise. Rather, I would have to cough up another 1.5-2 grand to ensure the poor hapless consumer's gouging goes on.

Needless to say, I walked out of the dealership in a huff and later lectured Pacific Honda's management on ethical salesmanship - if there is ever such a thing in this business. My main grouse is that these folks lie blatantly to get you into their showroom and commit to something foolish. I am not ever stepping into their dealership again...

OTOH Poway Honda, who also backtracked on their promise of matching my lowest quote at least did not schedule an appointment refusing to honor their own email. It looks so gentlemanly against the Pacific Honda backdrop...

Seems to be that LA or Riverside is the way to go for San Diego folks. Will keep the forum posted.

i am hopefully going to buy EX-L tomorrow. I have 2 lowest out-of door offer of 28,800 (plus some VIP service card) & 28700 (both dealers within 20 mins) . 3rd dealer has told me that he will beat lowest offer by 200. But dealer is abt 50 mins from my place. I will be moving after 2 months. A friend suggested not to go with 3rd dealer as I may have to visit dealership for some minor adjustments/repairs in first month. Any suggestions are welcome . Thanks

I might be considering same strategy that buying from nearest dealer is well worth the money if you have to see the dealer concerning any issues post buying.

Is this price includes tax, doc fee, tag etc ? and how much is the tax in SC ? can you share the dealer name ? I am in RTP, NC.

    thanks.

Yonkers of Honda (NY - Westchester County) is offering me the 2007 EXL-RES for $29,199 plus $595 dealer prep and TTL.

Has anyone been able to find a better price in our area? Let me know. We'll see how they do on the trade-on appraisal/qoute, but I think they have won our business.
