EX-L without financing = 26,753 + TTL.
I am guessing that it will go lower. Tax is 9.2% in King County, lower in Skagit.
Any body else shopping for an Odyssey in the area?
That price was with the $2k off.
It was either that OR choose low APR.
Total OTD price was $29,300. No TTL involved in the sale due to residency reasons.
Internet quotes and bargaining via emails as many have outlined in this forum is definitely the way to go.
The deal was smooth--no pressure to sell extras or to try and jam in extra fees last minute and no questions about trade-in or taking their financing.
Efficient transaction--best car buying experience I have had--internet manager was fantastic to deal with.
Debated back and forth about whether to get the NAV or not--time will tell if it was the correct decision--it seems like the NAV feature by itself is nothing special but having the voice integrated commands and touch screen for radio and CDs will be handy. And the backing-up camera is also a nice safety feature.
Which dealership? How was their inventory? Any more Nimbus Grey's?
Thanks,
Charles
Just my opinion. Best wishes.

History isn't a reliable guide right now on future incentives due to the unique convergence of several factors including:
- Fire-sale prices on Chrysler minivans;
- Scary economy; and
- Toyota offering 2K on Siennas (at least here in Ohio).
Personally, I don't see how incentives could get better but I've been wrong before!
Elkhart was quoting $33,224 before TTL, while Harbor Honda in Merrillville was quoting 34,312.92 OTD (6% TAX). That sounds awfully higher than $31K that some seem to be suggesting in this forum. For folks from this area, are there good dealers in this area that we are missing. Basney was a easy choice, they seemed to act like they didn't need our business, quite openly. Schuamburg, IL dealer said "Come here, we will deal. Can't be sure if you would deal from Indiana".
Any help would be much appreciated!!
email: yaffe.fam@prodigy.net
Would recommend working with Renton Honda & Lynnwood Honda for prompt responses and honest answers. From my experience both of these dealers have good internet teams with competitive offers. Would be happy to pass on contacts in case anyone is interested.
Other dealers were either were uncompetitive or did not respond.
By reading some posts $29,500 +TTL seems like a great deal but as a girl and via internet I am having a hard time getting that met without a hard quote to "match/beat" and I doubt if I take in these posts they will say, "Okie Dokie"...
Looking to make the deal within 2 weeks in O.C., So Cal so any tips, tricks or advice is greatly appreciated.
Also, do you think I could get a better deal? I originally started with $29,5000 OTD - is that feasible?
Forget any "match/beat" store - they're just playing games.
The only way to get the best price is shop, shop, shop. Use the direct approach, whether by phone, in-person, or internet: I'm ready to buy now, what's your best price?
Any garbage about "gimme your best quote or come on in and we'll deal" is B.S."
If you really think your getting jerked around because your a female, log into yahoo mail or hotmail and open an account with a guys name and your last name and use that. You can always print the final details and say it was your husband and your here to finish the deal.
Additionally, just like sales is about numbers for the dealers, its about numbers for the buyer as well. Meaning, you can't contact 2 people and get a great deal (well odds are slim for this to occur) Give the following a shot. The initial blast should take no more than 20 min max after you open up an email account with dudes name and your last name.
1) Log into the Honda.com website and click on "find dealer" (DONT use the request quote button).
2) Put in your area code and get the list of dealers. Next to the top dealer on the list click "request a quote".
3. Fill out your info. I wouldnt put a phone number down, you call them if you want...they don't call you.
Ask for the following:
- Since you want EXL RES NAV, select that from dropdown.
- In "comments" section just cut and past this:
Would like an OTD (out the door) quotation on EXL RES NAV. Please itemize charges: Base Price (INCLUDE destination) only extras should be tax, title license. I understand that Honda is offering the special APR financing or the 2K dealer incentive. I would like your BEST price including the 2K incentive. Additionally, please include the color selection that you have available. I'm checking with several dealers in the area and will be purchasing in the next few days, so your promptness and bottom line is appreciated.
- Press Send
4. Go Back to "find dealer" enter your zip and you'll get the same list. select 'request quote" by the next dealer and this same form that you initially entered will be pre populated. just press send.
5. repeat to all the dealers in your area if your in a metro area. In the OC,select a zip about an hour away from you and enter this after you've done all the dealers right by you. Take that list and blast to them as well.
6. Sit back..your in the drivers seat.
7. Wait for quotes to come in.
8. You'll find out who's serious.
- some will give you HIGH price
- Some will tell you to give them your best quote or
to come into the dealer. Delete these, waste of time.
- some wont respond (amazingly enough)
- a few will give you a pretty aggressive price
- you may end up with a clear cut low ball great price
9. Forget about the highballs and the folks that want you to call to get a price.
10. Reply back to the few that are low or semi in the ballpark. Note that you appreciate their offer. That you have a few others that are right there and that you'd like to buy from them. Your making the decision in the next 48 hours. Is this your best price? (if you want any accessories, nows the time to ask for them). ALternatively, you can name a price to see if they can get there, in Chicago area best I've seen is around 28,350 Including Destination. Just add TTL. (for Res/Nav)
11. Wait for your responses. Hopefully you should have a pretty good price (better than you have from your other guy).
12. Go back to the person with best quote and requalify the details? "You have this color in stock and this price "28,500" includes destination? Only Extra's are Tax, Title License? There are no extra dealer packages on the car correct? They reply in writing with a "yes", then call them to set time to meet and tell them to have the exact ar read. PRINT OUT YOUR NEGOTIATION SHEET AND BRING IT WITH YOU >>HAVE IT IN WRITING>
13.5 When you show up. Drive the EXACT VAN you are buying. Make sure you like it, no rattles, etc. Inspect it for scratches, etc. Should be fine, but make sure. You've come this far, don't overlook final details.
14. Show up with your own financing and ask honda if they can beat it. If they can, go that route. If not, stick with your financing. Don't show up without financing or your likely to get the "best we can do is 8.5% routine. (for financing check e-loan and capitalone.com fill out the forms and they'll mail you a blank check. Should be able to get about 6.25% with decent credit. This is better than the 4.9% for 36-60 mos for honda, if they've passed along the 2k honda incentive in your price--you'll know because your price should be about 28K-ish + TTL
15. Do all negotiation back forth via email. DONT GO IN until you have a deal. If you go in without a deal being done your prone to wasting your time or caving and not getting a great deal.
16. Lastly, after putting the screws to everyone (who would otherwise be putting the screws to you)..do honor the final deal and dont try to pull the I'm here...throw in "this" and I'll buy. Im a personal beleiver in negotiation, but when you finalize on a deal...honor it and don't try to squeeze blood. Good Luck
If you do all of the above and tap all the dealers in the OC area, you should get the bottom line price for that market.--which could be 28k or 31K. It's all supply and demand for the region.
I pressed the request a quote button on the edmunds web site and got an email back from Honda of Santa Ana.
They are offering the EXL with NAV, RES for $29,795 plus Tax and Title. The email said the list price was $35,490.
When I called to see if they had the color I wanted; not only they didn't have the color, they were rude, and couldn't wait for me to get off the phone!
Can anyone verify if this is a good enough price for this model in the OC, SoCal area? I'm not in a rush to buy, would it be wise to wait it out a couple more months?
Thanks for the help!!
Dude your email was a few hrs short for me. It is the best written internet buying advice I have found so far.
I live in Alpharetta, GA. Just got an EX-L with DVD and Navigation today 9/3. Had earlier negotiated for a plain EX-L for 25,693 (incl destination) + TTL. But could not find the right interior color today. Got a demo for the Navigation and considered that too. :shades:
Got a price of 29,293 (incl destination + splash guards, cargo tray) for EX-L + Nav + RES with the needed color - Slate Green with Olive interior. Basically caved in as I had not negotiated for it earlier (Misstep on your point 15). Also got an okay finance for 5.99% from Honda.
The sales guy, Matt was very good at the Hennssey Honda dealership in Woodstock, GA, but did not budge from the quoted price. Also had to pay $65 for wheel locks.
In retrospect, could have got a better deal, if I had not gone in, but negotiated online for price and accessories beforehand for this model.
And BTW just noticed that the finance guy lowered the rates from 6.79% to 5.99% in 3 steps without clicking or checking anything. So I presume there is a lot of room there that I did not squeeze (the dealership was closed and it was already 6.30 p.m).
Also took the 7 yr , 75,000 miles warranty for $1060.
Final drive out price was $31,903 (with $1000 trade-in, 7% sales tax.). So from your mail it feels like I got $1000 more on the price and could have saved more on the finance (1% ~ $1000).
Gotta live with it
Do you have any idea if they have another promotion going on after 9/4? Dealers say there will be no more promotion after today which I can't believe.
Internet Manager : Warren Wicke
Very good experience using Edmunds.com and Autowest beat other dealer price on 2nd tried. 1st offer is reasonable.
got it for : $26245 (including DEST) + TTL & fully financed 60 months 4.99 APR (must be a good rating on your credit score)
color: Silver exterior and Gray interior.
Miles: 000008 was 000006 before test drive
I would recommend everyone go there. NO hassle on purchase.
Tell him that Johnson from Sacramento referred you.
Area dealer (scale 1 to 5 with 1 is the worst and 1 is the best):
Autowest Roseville AutoMall Honda - 4.5 - 1st quote was good and 2nd quote beat the rest, no pushing for Accessories,or any warranty (but the warranty is a little pricey in my mind as I knew the price) but got 60 days to cancel if I back out, no hassle, and no pressure.
Vacaville HONDA - 4.0 - fast quote with very good price,
University Honda at Davis - 3.5 - decent quote and willing to match on 2nd times.
Mel Rapton Honda - 1.1 - request quick quote thru internet manager on Friday 8/31/2007, email to New Cars Manager, and no one reply until 09/04/2007 after 6 PM. talk about QUICK quote. 0.1 point was added because it replies to my request but it was very very late. Expecting us to buy whatever left over during the sale?? that is no way to treat a RETURN customer - bought a 2001 honda there before.
Elk Grove Honda - 3.0 - quickest phone call after I submited for quick quote (less than 1 hr), quote me an EX model at the beginning of the conversation ( I dont know that is intentionally to bring me in or not) but later correct to EX-L model after I said that is a rediculously low for an EX-L model. Obviously I dont belive what he is saying earlier. but he did offer an not a decent quote and pledge it will match or beat plus extra service. After I forward the best written quote to them, did not hear and ding nor a dong. Nothing at all except an email for service survey.
anybody needs more question just let me know.. will share my NO HASSLE experience
American Honda said Tuesday that total sales in August rose 4.7% to 158,342 vehicles from 151,253, in the same month last year. Car sales increased 11.7% to 91,448 from 81,868, while truck sales fell 3.6% to 66,894 from 69,385, the automaker said. Honda division sales totaled 141,906 in August, up 6.7% from 132,990, a year ago. Sales at the Acura division fell 10% to 16,436, from 18,263 last year, Honda said.
This probably means no more new rebates.
Look at post 16253
Thanks again!
