Since this forum was so helpful to me, let me return the favor.

Just bought a 2012 Smoky Topaz Odyssey EX-L from McDavid Honda in Frisco, TX.

    MSRP was $35,685
Dealer Add-ons was another $1,696 (Tint, Cargo Mat, Wheel Locks, Door Guards, and maybe a few other things).

So total to start was $37,381.

Initially went in to dealer under the Costco Auto Buying program. Was told up front that the Costco price was -$600 to Dealer Invoice. He didn't show me the invoice, but it was in the ballpark as I recall -- initially offering $32,500 to me.

I had a trade in -- a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE that was mechanically in good shape, but body and interior were pretty rough. KBB, Edmunds, AutoTrader, and Car Max all were in the 7000-8000 range depending on the condition selected. They initially offered $7000.

At this point, I whipped out my print outs of similar sales of the exact same Odyssey model (thanks to this forum and others) and told him I needed something in the low $31K and an $8K trade to make this deal work.

Initially was told that the costco price was non-negotiable, so I threatened to walk out and go find the same car elsewhere. Suddenly they wanted to deal again. We went back and forth a few times, but I refused to budge. I knew I shouldn't pay more. We finally agreed at $31,100 and $8000 trade.

When it came time to visit with the Finance manager, I had already obtained quotes for the Honda Care from Hyannis, Saccucci, and a few others. Hyannis was the least expensive and I had that printout handy in my folder.

The Finance Manager initally offered 8 yr/120K for $2999 until he asked if I was a AAA member (I am) when he suddenly said he could knock that down to $2299. I told him I was going to save us some time, and produced the quote from Hyannis for the same coverage for $1270. He seemed shocked, ran off somewhere, and then came back saying he would match it.

But he initially wrote up the paperwork for Fidelity Warranty Service. When I asked why it wasn't Honda Care, he explained that this was better coverage with Rental Car Coverage, Towing, Per Diem when travelling. I explained that Honda Care offered the same and I wanted Honda Care. After some more discussion, he changed the paperwork and still met the price.

Lastly, he tried to sell me 3 yr/36K scheduled maintenance coverage for $489. When I asked what the oil change mileage interval was for the new Odyssey, he said 5000 miles (still not sure about this). Anyway, 36,000 miles divided by 5000 miles means 7 oil changes. At $30 bucks a pop, that's only $210. When pressed to explain the difference, he said they offered tire rotations, fluid topoffs, etc. But then so does my local NTB and others. I declined.

That was the end of the sales pushes.

    Final Costs:

    Base + Dest: 31100
    Trade In: 8000
    Subtotal: 23100

    Tax: 1443.75 (6.25% in TX)
    Title/Reg/Doc Fees: 368.23
    Honda Care: 1270

    Total Financed: 26181.98

1.9%/54 months + Honda $500 off first payment. Monthly Payment $506.65 (did 54 months to keep payment just north of $500 to maximize additional incentive).

Thanks again to all who posted their information. I feel I was much more informed.

I actually bought a Honda Odyssey EXL w/RES two weeks ago in the Atlanta area. Looking back at my contact emails, Curry Paul Honda offered me the same $33,021 for the vehicle but the internet sales guy was kind of shady because he/she wouldn't break down the drive-out and any dealer extras they might stick on me.

In the end I actually went with Carey Paul Honda in Snellville because the internet guy was real straight forward. I paid $32,687 for the vehicle, but that was with wheel locks, splash guards, moonroof visor, all-season mats, and the remote start system; that's $31,934 (base + destination) and $753 (for the rest of the features). I also got an equivalent offer from Team Honda in Lithia Spring for the same vehicle, same price, but with the roof rack w/crossbars installed instead of the remote start system.

Also in response to jking2012 comment, the MSRP for a base EXL (NO RES/Nav) is $35,685 while the EXL w/RES or Nav is $37,285; that's a $1,600 difference. So his price of about $31,600 (that's base + destination) is a real good target. I used the research from post #28705 to figure out my target price, but keep in mind that person was doing research on a base EXL (NO RES/Nav). As far as the Drive-Out Price, I paid a little over $35k but you have to consider that Georgia doesn't have a restriction on documentation fees ($599) whereas other states out west and to the northwest only charge a max $100-200.

If I can help in any way please feel free to email me. andrewnhoang@gmail.com

I searched the posts for recent entries from Houston and did not see any for 2012 EXL. Could you please share your recent Houston buying experience, costs, dealership, etc. I am looking to buy a new EXL with or without RES. The lowest price I have been quoted so far is 31700 for EXL without RES or NAV and it seems that people in different areas have been able to get lower prices. Thank you.

    Hi,

I am looking for a similar Odyssey, would appreciate if you could give the name of the sales person you worked with. I am also planning to add Navigation and RES, what do you think would be best price i can pay extra for these...

    Thanks

I love this site! I did my research here and made my deal via internet w/multiple Honda dealerships for a 12 EXL w/DVD and free all weather mats. My deal via many dealerships was this:
    car price $33,000
    Dealer fee $599-699
    Tax/title/ transfer
    approx $36k out the door.
This is a completely negotiable price, don't pay more than $33 for this model. It's very low but dealers will do it.

I was driving to dealer when I decided to stop by the Toyota dealer on way. I ended up liking the XLE 8 pass w/DVD as well as Odyssey. I got them to match my Honda price plus got an extra $500 military disc.
The big factor for that sold me w/toyota was 0% financing offered thru toyota right now! the numbers just made more sense. After driving my last 07 Odyssey for 5 years I thought I'd never change but I love the Sienna just as much. They're both wonderful vans.
    Just food for thought!
    I'm in Tampa, FL

I am considering Sienna over Odyssey as well. However, the price of $33K for EX-L w/DVD is too high. I can get it for $31,650 but I am not convinced yet. It has so many reported cases with the transmission. Sienna has very few issues.

Great forum! does anyone have experience with the sams club buying program - they list the ex-l with res for $32,900 base price and 810 destination ($33,710 excl TTL docs etc.) - I read posters getting 31.5k deals on this model...is pricing different in the midwest WI/MN than other areas of the US? Thanks
  • mishty1mishty1 Member Posts: 4
i got the final quote of $35,200 and $35,400 which includes the mats and remote start drive out for honda odessey exl 2012 with RES.Is this a fair price?
  • nettaigurunettaiguru Member Posts: 5
I am also looking for an EXL with RES or a Touring elite in Houston. Maybe we should team up!!! Was the quote of 31700 you got for EXL drive out or plus TTL? Bcoz while I was negotiating for the Elite @ David McDavid Honda, I was given a verbal offer of $34K drive out on the EXL with RES. The best offer I have received so far in houston for the elite is $39K + TTL for a drive out around $42+.
  • houston1234houston1234 Member Posts: 2
$34K drive out for EXL with RES sounds like a good offer in Houston at least as far as I have seen. I have emailed multiple dealerships even out to Austin and San Antonio and so far $31700 base price including destination fee has been the best offer, but it was just for EXL with no RES or NAV. I also got a quote today from Lake Jackson Honda for EXL with RES for $32,587 as base price including destination. I have not received any quotes for a Touring model, but will let you no if I hear of anything. Thank you for your reply!
  • ariley4ariley4 Member Posts: 4
That's a great deal! I Think they get better as the month goes on. End of month is crunch time for most dealers. I don't know much about transmissions but j also read on many posts about the issues the 2011's were having. That too played a factor in my decision. After driving the sienna now for a few days I can say it turns much more like a car than van. The wheel turns like a hot knife going thru soft butter---lame to say, I know, but its the best analogy I can think of. I really enjoy the drive much better than the odyssey. Oh, the dual playing movie capability is heaven for my kids!

Many thanks to all those that shared their buying experiences and pricing. I wanted to share mine in case it helped the next person.

I just brought home 2012 Odyssey EX-L Tafetta White / Truffle

Without RES and NAV....but here is what was included:

Pro Pack (wheel locks, splash guards, cargo liner)
    Front window Tint
    Pin Striping
    Roof Rails (Part Number: 08L02-TK8-100)
    Moonroof Visor (Part Number: 08R01-TK8-100)
One FREE Oil Change (it's a long story.....just telling you all that was included)

    Sales Price $32,350.00
    Sales Tax 6.25% $2,021.88
    Doc/Reg/Misc $384.83
Total Out the Door $34,756.71 (OTD)

All of this was completed with 2 visits in person to 2 different dealers....and about 5 hours of internet price requests with another 2 dealers...... Best thing I did was go to a third party site...that sent in my request to the Internet Managers at the dealers.....that's when the real pricing started.

Lastly....I know there is still room and don't claim this is the lowest....b/c another dealer was offering me $31,900 Sales price....trying to unhook me from my verbal to my preferred dealer.

Hope this helps.... Contact me if you want to know where the best pricing is in DFW.

I live in MA and I was looking for 2012 odyssey EX. I went through AAA's buying program and also called a bunch of dealers. After some haggling, I am at this price currently:

    $27300 base price
$500 first payment to be made by dealer
    $250 documentation fee
    6.25% state tax
    100-odd for plate
    29 for inspection sticker

Do you guys think this is a good deal? The MSRP for EX is in the mid-32Ks.

Last week I purchased 2012 Odyssey EX-L w/o RES or NAV (White with Beige leather color) for 31800 + TTL. The van already comes with tint windows, pin stripes, wheel locks and cargo tray.

I bought it from Frank Kent Honda of Fort Worth and sales person was Nate Woods.

My Tip: Don't try any dealers in Irving, Dallas or Plano area. Try dealers who are 40 to 50 miles away. You can also get better deal at Fenton Honda of Ardmore, OK. Ardmore city is 90 miles from Dallas. I wasted my time with John Eagle Honda of Dallas and found that they are nice talkers but their prices are high compared to other dealers in 50 mile radius.

I am also looking for Honda Odyssey EX L with RES. 34K drive out looks like better offer. Can you please send me the email quote to my id shaik.livelink@gmail.com. I am exploring the options to buy touring if I get good deal. I went to a Honda Dealer in Houston and he offered 36.5 kDrive out for EXL RES and looks like little expensive.

Honda Odyssey Touring Elite for $37888 is very good offer. I believe this is Internet price and if you add TTL and accessories, it would come around 41k. Can you let me know the dealer name or forward the quote to my email address shaik.livelink@gmail.com. Are you in Houston TX.

Think about this before buying the Honda.......February 2012 Motor Trend Long Test Article 2011 Odyssey Touring Elite, 6 months old, 14999 miles "...we'll have the technicians look at the transmission as well. Over time, shifting has become rough, and occasionally upon acceleration between first and second gears, the transmission seems to be shuddering."
  • caldudecaldude Member Posts: 5
I purchased the Honda Touring Elite for 0.9% APR and upto $500 off first
    payment at Maryland dealer .
Here is the price break down:Internet dealer price 37888
    destination fee $810
    wheel locks ,stripes,mud flaps,trunk mat :$400
    8yr service warranty :1350
pus TTL :so Out The Door its $ 43622(inlcudes all taxes license fees).

    Anyways ..was it a Good offer/deal ?
  • nettaigurunettaiguru Member Posts: 5
I dont think you overpaid too much. I did see in your previous post about the $400 charge being additional to the $37888 but the destination charge also being additional now makes it just a tad bit above what is being offered normally. The best deal posted in this forum for the Touring Elite so far has been at Bernardi Honda in MA: Price of the vehicle including destination - $37630
    Documentation Fee- $352
    Sales Tax- $2352
    Registration and Tittle 116
    Total OTD- $40450.

Hi all, I was hoping to make some serious negotiations tomorrow on a 2012 Odyssey EX. I want to lease. I dont think i will want a van longer than 3 years at this point. Maybe 5 tops.
    1. advice on leasing?
    2. there are 2 dealership is am interested in - one has a lease special and one doesn't - who do have a better chance with? The one without the special has far more cars in stock vs. 3 at the other dealership.
    3. Is the is type of lease negotiable? The invoice price for the ex is 30066, the lease price is for msrp and its for 3 years and 12000mi. I drive about 12000mi a year.
    4. Can I even get a lease if there are no lease specials?

Any and all advice is appreciated. I have never leased a car!!!

Long time user, first time poster. I just purchased a Smoky Topaz with Truffle leather EXL (no RES/no NAV) in Atlanta and thought I would post my comments. I essentially used the same method many others here tried, emailing about 15 dealers within 30 miles of downtown Atlanta. Edmunds only listed their “Premier Dealers” (annoying Edmunds, but I understand you gotta’ pay the bills) but after clicking on “View all local dealers” it listed a ton more. Two of the dealers came back with prices that were well below the others (Sons Honda and Carey Paul). I then emailed the other top 3 dealers to see if they wanted to match or lower the low bid and got 3 “no” responses (which at least told me I was in the right ballpark ;) ). I ended up heading down to Sons Honda and worked with Greg Johnson there as I had spoken to him on the phone and he seemed eager to get a deal done but knowing I had another dealer ready in my back pocket helps. The buying process went as smoothly as I could have hoped and there were no issues that sometimes “arise” at the last minute when buying a car. I also got the top dealers to price out some add-ons that I was considering so adding those on was an easy process as well although they all seemed to price about the same. So here are the details (before the GA 7% sales tax)
Sales price (inc. destination fee ($830), processing fee ($599), splash guards (*free*)and Title fee ($21)) $31,320
Added options (these were essentially the same between dealers give or take $20-50). Side molding, rear parking sensors, roof rails and crossbars. $1,301
Total Pre-tax out the door price (no other dealer fees) $32,621

Since Edmunds lists the invoice on this vehicle including only the destination fee as $32,851 this seemed like a pretty good deal but I am not sure how all the dealer holdbacks and incentives work. Defintiely feel like they were close to meeting quotas to let it go at this price ….Sons is also a fairly new dealership so I think they are a little more willing to work with you.

Awesome information in this forum. I would hate to be a car salesmen with the info that is available these days! Thanks to Edmunds for providing.

We bought an Odyssey over the weekend. EXL no RES, no NAV. Smoky Topaz with truffle interior. Came with front window tint, wheel locks and something else that we weren't looking for but was already included.

We paid 32200, minus our first months payment = 31800. Is that a good deal? We live in Killeen, TX. I see other people getting lower prices than that but we couldn't seem to get our guy to budge. Makes me think we should have asked more for our trade to make up for the higher price on the van.

I stay in Bentonville, AR. The dealer is giving me Out of Door price of 31500 for 2012 Honda Odyssey - EXL along with All Season Protection Pack. Is it a good deal? The all season protection pack consists of All Season floor mats , Splash guards and cargo tray. Is there any room for further negotiation? The only other cost over and above this will be State Tax and Registration. Do dealers bear the expense of State Tax?
  • dp_crvdp_crv Member Posts: 23
The price 31500 plus TTL is good. But there are few people who got it below 31000 as well. The TTL or tax title varies from state to state. So compare price w/o TTL. You can try to go Down to 30500.
