walk away as qucik as you can.......
I have a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring I purchased in January 2011. By March 2011 I was having trouble with the transmission stuttering and halting. Last week, I almost got hit when changing lanes in DC traffic b/c the van would not go from 1st to 2nd gear!!!! Honda dealerships have NOT BEEN able to fix it. I contacted Honda of America last week and they still have not gotten back to me. I also filed a complaint with the Maryland attorney general's office.
-This is my 5th Honda. I think it will be my last!

I received an out the door price of $30,613.00 including destination charges & local taxes for the following vehicle:

New 2012 Honda Odyssey EX with following additional options – rearview camera, cargo “spill-proof” liner, wheel locks, splash guards

We considered the EX-L, but at about $3,400 more than the EX & the only feature we really wanted from the EX-L package being the rearview camera we feel this is a better deal since dealer was willing to add it at this price.

I feel like this is a very competitive offer. I plan on buying it for my wife for Mother’s Day. After I purchase, I’ll post on experience & confirm this was truly the OTD price.

If anyone has seen lower pricing in the Atlanta-metro area, please post a note. Thanks!

    hi,
for the rear-view camera add on: is that on the monitor, or part of the rear-view mirror? I was told it could only be added onto EX as part of the rear-view mirror.
    thx
  • 1sttimeminivan1sttimeminivan Member Posts: 3
I was told this would be the same feature as what's included in the EX-L because with the 2012 model the EX also has the info display screen. I'll confirm tomorrow when I inspect the vehicle before purchase. Thanks

interesting. thanks for letting me know and I'm interested to see if that's what you get.
by the way, I'm not super-knowledgeable... but it sounds to me like you got a great deal.

Nobody will be able to answer your question because your post doesn't include the Odyssey model and lacks the actual price (OTD is useless without knowing the tax rate, fees, trade value, etc). Are we to assume it's the EX-L with RES and rearview from your earlier post?
  • joncab5joncab5 Member Posts: 8
Just purchased one today for $34,000 plust DMV, Tax, Tire Fee. Good deal to me as they over inflated my trade by an exstimated $1,000 to make me sign. So I am happy. They no longer make the first payment...that went away on April 30.

0.9% for 60 months is a great deal.

They pushed the non-Honda extgended warranty hard and I said no, as i have been burned by non-manufacture warratey in the past.

I would have prefered teh non RES model, but was really important to the family. Life is good!

To linjmur: Thanks so much for your message! I had told the dealer the feature we valued most in the EX-L package was the rearview camera so when I was told that could be included I thought it would be the same (after all, the EX & EX-L both have an in dash display). However, you were right! Glad you brought this to my attention before I went to the dealership.

    Thanks!
  • linjmurlinjmur Member Posts: 4
1sttimeminivan: glad we could help each other! I really don't want to go up to the EX-L (I don't want leather seats) so I'm thinking maybe the rearview mirror camera isn't so bad. From an example I saw on you tube it only takes up part of the mirror. So I guess that makes the image a little small.. but you can check your mirror at the same time.

the internet manager in my area (central valley, california) aren't being too eager to be helpful. The quotes I received were:
    1-$30,455 + taxes/license fees
    2-$29,840 + taxes/ licenses
    3-$29,362+ taxes and fees

I was comparing these last two and felt that the last one was vague about what was not included (or at least I am not well versed enough in the lingo). Over email, I asked which fees were not included in the price. She didn't reply. I asked again. No reply. So I contacted another internet manager at the same dealership (by phone this time). He gave me a quote of $30,600 + taxes and licenses. ?!?

I would be tempted to go with quote #2, especially as the internet manager who provided it has been very helpful, responding quickly and nicely to my emails. However, the dealership where I got quotes 3 and 4 offers a 12-year, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty. It seems appealing because of the transmission problems that Odysseys have had historically. The salesman of quote 3 told me that I could probably get a cheaper quote elsewhere but wouldn't get the 12-year warranty.

I guess I could call the quote # 3 sales person and ask for clarification. I would imagine the fees she hasn't included wouldn't bring the quote up to the $30,600 that the other salesman at her dealership offered? Although I hate giving business to someone who is being so unhelpful and seems reluctant to sell me a vehicle.
any thoughts and advice is welcome.
    thank you

Shopping for touring elite in northern new England. I have gotten three quotes so far for $39200 +\- 100 bucks. Just wanted to put it out there in case people were looking. One quote from Bernardi nattick, one from lee in auburn Maine, one other from Maine as well. This includes destination and any add on fees such as documentation.

    Cheers

Hey all, first post. I bought my very first minivan this past week or so and went for the 2012 odyssey ex-l w res. I know I am speaking to a far more experienced audience here; but I love it. Got a great price at $32,250 (including doc fee, worked the dealers to death), and got the $500 Honda bucks too. Also, talked to bob leap at Hyannis and got the extended warranty for 1,270 8 year/120k. I really like the car and am surprised how cool it actually is. With 3 kids, we needed the space!

Also, bit of advice...if a car dealer is talking; they're lying. The offered the same warranty at 3300 and said that their "cost" was above the 1270 I paid so there was no way I could get it at that price. After pulling out the printout quote, they realized I wasn't down for any bs. They then wrapped up the tricks and let me go on my way.

Could you share the dealer you bought it from (and share who you spoke with at the dealership as a message if you can't share it here) ? I am assuming TAX not included. Everything else included? What was the MSRP? Did it have any accessories on it? BTW, Honda Warranty 120K for 1.2K ?

    Thanks

Glad to help! Here was my process...

Call your local Honda dealer and ask them if they will match another dealers offer. They will tell you yes...and you will need to hold them to it so get names you talk to.
Go to "truecar.com" and set up a profile to search for what you want and ask as many dealers as possible to contact you with their best offer. Go to other states as well that are reasonably close to you. You will start getting hammered with calls; be nice to these people and act humble. They will want to help you more (and will be more willing to send you something in writing). Then, for the following 3-5 days spend your time negotiating between the dealers to get your best price. Once you do, take it into your local dealer and ask them to match it. They will hesitate, balk, pout, argue, whatever...just stay firm and be ready to walk. If you do, they will call you back. Finally, do NOT let them push you on the dealer installed accessories. Give them 30% of what they are asking if it means closing the deal. Also, no fabric coating, paint enhancer, nitrogen in tires, blah blah blah. You are there to buy the car...that's it.

Mine has everything the ex-l with rear entertainment comes with (also mud flaps, pinstripe, etc). It's msrp with dealer installed options was $38,800. Again, with doc fees (made it part of the purchase but they still had to charge them) I paid $32,250. 17% off sticker. I also got the $500 Honda cash, so really I paid $31,750...but that incentive is over.

On the extended warranty, I have this blog to thank. Called Hyannis Honda and Bob Leap and he was a breeze to work with. No deductible, 8 years, 120k miles for $1270. Your dealer will push hard on this because you will be stealing your van. Tell them there's no way on your life you'll buy it so they back off. Buy it once the van is in your driveway. (yes, you can do that though they won't tell you). And its a Honda care warranty.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks to this forum, I also purchased EX-L w/RES for $31,581.73 with 0.9% for 60 months plus doc and tax.

I didn't get the extended warranty but I am still considering it. vanpire, did you buy the warranty form Hyannis Honda or Bob Leap?
  • vanpirevanpire Member Posts: 6
I did, it was a hondacare warranty and with the power doors and technology, one issue should make the $1270 worth it. Congrats on that price, that's the lowest I've heard.
  • noman_anoman_a Member Posts: 1
The price was $36,430. Doc fee, DMV license and sales tax (Santa Clara county) added up to about $3400. So, out the door price was just below 40k.

The car didn't have any add-ons. Well, we did get the wheel locks for free. This was at Tracy Honda.

We purchased it around end of April, and so we got the additional $500 off from AHFC (which would be credited in the first month payment)

    Hi,

You're not alone ... My sister has a 2007 or 2008 touring and had to replace the transmission but it was under warranty. I recently bought a 2012 in Apr-2012, then did search for problems and found that the Odyssey does have a problem. I asked the dealers about this and they said all manuf. have recalls, etc... well, the dealer I went to said they have a life time warranty on the transmission provided I get oil changes there. That sold the Odyssey to me.

This problem of the Odyssey is consistent, but Honda will not admit to it... but it is all over the internet.

Having said that ... this is my first Odyssey ... it's nice .. this is my second car as I have another .. so this would have less mileage on it. But I really want to work this car to see if anything is up with it...

Keep pestering them ... file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.

My purchase price is 30,900 2012 Odyssey EX-L. I also got $450 from Honda Financing as a first month payment...

Got a quote in Mississippi for $33600 OTD for a new 2012 EX-L including taxes and a life-time powertrain warranty (from dealer). No RES or navigation. 0.9% for 60 months. Is this a good deal?
  • chuckyboy2chuckyboy2 Member Posts: 1
For everyone I live in the DC area and have done a ton of research. I have contacted 15 dealerships, visited 5 different dealerships and haggled for long hours. For a base comparison the OTD price does not include tax or title but does include every other fee. We bought no extras (it came with wheel locks but every one that I have looked at came with those). I plan to buy a remote engine start, roof rails and cross bars, and the towing package. For the extras we will buy them at a different dealership. We have found a cheaper dealership that accepts COSTO coupon for 15% off.

For anyone who is doing research a good price is $30,500 on any color. If your in the market for a black (and possibly a silver) you can get it cheaper. I had three dealerships tell me no for $30,500. I was given some BS that Honda uped the price on any model after April 1st (it may true but that dealership did so many shadey things that I trust nothing they said).

If anyone needs the dealership that I bought it at I can forward you that information and give you cheapest online quote that I have.

Hope this information was helpful to any looking to buy.

After a week of agonizing between the Odyssey and the Sienna, we ended up purchasing a Odyssey Touring Elite today from Clear Lake Honda- Black with Truffle interior. I figured since this forum was so helpful during our search I would return the favor and post our experience. It came equipped with the dealer ad ons of: Tint, Remote Start, Roof Rack w/ cross bars, Sunroof deflector and hood shield/deflector, cargo tray, door sills, wheel locks and splash guards. We paid $41,500 (destination included in that) plus TTL and received the 0.9% financing. We declined the life time oil changes and microdot dealer "add on" that would have added $499.00. The lifetime oil changes would have been $250, which isn't a bad deal, but since it doesn't include tire rotation or anything else, we passed on it. We also declined the extended warranty, as I will price shop that later using the other forum here. Their other fees, etc. were minimal- no hidden extra fees.

They matched the trade in value I had received from several other dealerships, and it was an extremely low stress transaction- none of the horrible back and forth between the manager's office and us. I had price shopped online for the last several days and had received lower offers in the $39k ballpark, only to arrive at those dealers and be informed that the price did not include destination or any of the dealer add ons they failed to mention in the emails. Those dealerships also came in obscenely low on our trade. From what I can see on this forum, I do feel like we got a fair deal and hope that this is helpful to someone. Thanks to all of you for posting your experiences as well.

    Hi Vanpire,

Could you please tell does this 31581.73 is Out of door price and includes tax+title+tags etc..if so can you provide dealer info and quote. Even Iam looking for EX-L around this price.
  • vanpirevanpire Member Posts: 6
No way; that is about $3k too high. Make the deal on the vehicle and then once it's in your driveway buy Hondacare for around $1,270 from Hyannis Honda or another dealer that sells it at cost. Buy them separate; you will get a better deal. (PS. I believe you can buy the extended warranty until your vehicle has 6,000 miles on it).

PS We all need to help others keep their eyes on the prize. The dealer will try to sell you everything BUT the van! You went to buy the car; nothing else! Your current ride doesn't have fabric protection, service packages, etc. If you bought it I'm not ragging on you; I just want to help folks realize that car sales people are TRYING to work you over.
  • vanpirevanpire Member Posts: 6
I paid $32,250. That was for the van, doc fee, destination, etc.

    Taxes and tags were extra...

The dealership really doesn't matter; unless you follow what I posted before to get something in writing they won't match it. Try the Trucar.com route; it's an awesome service.

    Good luck!
  • dinehsdinehs Member Posts: 11
Let’s be clear here… I was replying to one of the comments regarding the price but the title of the thread is for EX with rear view camera. The car that I bought was Odyssey EX-L with DVD Rear Entertainment System (RES). I bought it for $31,581 (MSRP is 37,455) excluding tax, title, and doc of $250 after following the negotiation technique that I learned from this forum. Since the RES is about $1,500, a good target price for your EX-L should be about $30K.

I talked to my dealer yesterday and asked him if he is willing to offer the same to my friends but he danced around the answer. I really doubt that he will do it without some pressure or someone hardheaded like me that I stated the price and only allowed him to increase it by $50. I wasn’t going to buy it and I cared more or less if he had turned it down. Many dealers will not accept it and will try to maximize their profit. However, if you continue shopping from one dealer to another and expand your location to other cities and states around you, you should be able to find one dealer who is willing to sell you at your target price. Good luck.

Just bought a Touring Pearl White/Beige for 37800 including Destination and all accessories(Tint/Mats/MudG/CargoMat/Side Rails etc) from Honda Cars of McKinney. Had a Trade-in that matched the price so paid no Tax.

First got an Internet quote for 37800 and then had them match one from Rusty Wallis for 36500. Then had to haggle for Accessories and Trade-In value. Overall good experience. Took a bit long to get Trade-in price but happy at the end.

I recommend requesting internet quotes from 2/3 dealers to compare and then find the sweet spot. Also try to get Accessories listed and priced ahead of time. That is one mistake I made.

    Good Luck.

    Hi,

I got a quote for a ex-l w/ res for $31,824, excluding destination fee, accessories, processing fees, tax and MD fees (I'm from Maryland). Is this a good price? Also, how much do you think I should pay for destination fee, processing and MD fees? Are they pretty much the same by state or does it vary from dealer to dealer?

    Hi,chuckyboy2

I saw you post in the forum. I am planing to get an Odyssey. I live in sunnyvale CA. The best price I can get for EXL base is 31,299. I am curious how can you get such a good price as 3,0500. I talked to some dealers, but none of them seems like to offer me lower than 31,000.

Could you share a little bit buying tips with me?

    Thanks very much!
  • dinehsdinehs Member Posts: 11
Just don’t talk to any of the dealers yet. Compile a list of dealers and their inventory. Start with the internet team and email the next dealer on your list with the least number of cars. Ask them if they can beat your offer. Any dealer will be happy to give you $100 to $250 off to attract you. Take another $100 to $200 off for next level and email the next dealer on your list. The more cars the dealer has, the higher the chance to get a lower price. Once you hit a price that you are comfortable with or get enough rejections, then you have reached your best price. Some dealers will refuse to give you a written quote but will promise to beat any written quote by $100 or $200. At the end of your online shopping, take your best offer to them in-person and ask them to apply their policy and beat it. Most dealers would love to give it to you. I started with $33,185 for EXL w/RES and ended up at $31,581. It took about two weeks to complete the process. I know that I could have pushed another dealer to give me another $100 off but they didn’t have my first choice of colors.

One more item to share, the best deals on accessories are at Amazon, eBay, or eStore. Also, eStore has different prices for different dealers. Just do your homework if you want to save. Good luck.

I'm in the SF Bay Area. This forum was a huge help. I bought an EX-L today for $31,185 before tax and license. I got a few dealers to match that quote. El Cerrito, Concord and Carmichael.
  • oddyman400oddyman400 Member Posts: 6
I have used this type of process before and had good luck but when you have a trade in most of these dealers what to give you a low ball offer. Most should understand to look at the total bottom line price. Most dealers get it one way or the other.

Not sure if this is for just this weekend. But I have a written quote on the following cars from Simon Lopez, their Internet Manager. I bought the last touring they had yesterday and the GM tried to tell me I couldn't get the .9% on this deal so I told him, cash deal then. When I got to the finance department they told me .9% was no problem So try to use these for leverage with a better dealer, or go in guns loaded. (Note the sales guy was fine, the finanace guy was great, the only issue I had was my 'sales manager' was the GM of the dealer and he was a very negative experience. I'll post more next week as I need to hit the pool with the family-but wanted to make a quick post to help those shopping this weekend. These are by far the lowest prices I have seen-and I did confirm that at least in my deal they did not try to add any add-ons or dealer fees.

    2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L Was $35,685 Now $29,849
    2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES Was $36,980 Now $31,099
    2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L NAVI Was $37,685 Now $31,650
2012 Honda Odyssey Touring Was $41,990 Now $35,995
2012 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite Was $44,485 Now $38,199

This is at Spreen Honda in Loma Linda, CA. Destination is included in the above. My purchase was the price plus Tax,Title and DMV fees.

If you do go to Spreen I recommend you get everything in writing, call to confirm and DO NOT stop in the main showroom-go straight to the Internet department in the separate building. I hope they don't mess around with the deal back there. Good luck.

    Hi,wandering_burr

Really appreciate your information! That helps me a lot. I talked to the Simon, he gave me the quote as you mentioned above. The price is so tempting. I am so curious how he can offer so low price, because I live in bay area, non of the dealers seems like to give the price at 31,000, not to mention under it. May be that's the price in my area.

The Spreen honda is about 6 hours drive from where I live, Sunnyvale,San jose. At first, I even want to drag my husband out of bed to drive to take the car. But then I hesitated. The biggest problem to me is that I am not sure whether it is wise to buy a car so far from where you live. Although 1000 bucks is not a small money, the aftersale service may be cause more trouble than I get If I buy one from a local store. I am not sure I can get the same overall convenient service.

This is my first new car, before I have a pre-owend Toyota. I really have no experience in buying car. Could someone give me more advices on whether it is wise to buy a car so far from where you live? Simon told me one of his customer flew from the SF to get the car and very happy. I know I shouldn't trust dealer's words too much.

One more problem is that the time is so tight. Even I want to drive so long to take the car, I am sure I and my husband will collapse in exhaustion. I talked to the Simon and said I will keep his phone number and I will ask him the price for the next sale event on independent day. He told me he cannot make sure he can give a good price at that time because the price changes all the time, but my friend told me the next three months should be the end of year for car, and the car price should be getting cheaper.

I am not in a that hurry to buy a new car, so who can tell me when is the best time to buy a new car with the best price?
  • selina777selina777 Member Posts: 7
    Hi,superbalz

Thanks for your information! I guess you got the best price in my area, if not, should be very very close. I called these dealers as you mentioned. Non of them would like to offer around 31,000. I still don't figure out why car in our bay area should be more expensive than other places. Sigh!

The best queto I can get in our area is 31,299. I finally decided not to buy and wait for the next sale event. Hope I can get better luck in the next three months!
  • selina777selina777 Member Posts: 7
    Hi, dinehs

Thanks for so detailed buying tips! The best price I can get for ELX is 31,299. Normally the ELX with RES is 1000 to 2000 more expensive than ELX. I can't imagine you can get the model in such a low price. Congratulations! Your effort earn your great reward!

I originally planned to get EXL with RES, but the price is so high. I end up plan to just get a EXL. I decide to miss up this sale even and catch up the next one. Hope better deal will come up the next three months. I will definetly follow your instruction!

    Thanks again!
