"You can not replace seperate pieces of the mirror unfortunately (one of GM's methods for increasing their profitability I think). They come as a unit and are expensive"

Sorry, but mirrors are serviceable and available in pieces from GM. You can definitely get the "Mirror kit"(the glass and backing) and the "Actuator"(adjustment motor)I'll check on the lens and post part#'s and prices tomorrow.

http://go2pac.com/index.htm. This might help. I think the option you found was acutally from http://www.pie.net/index.htm. I just bought the AAI-GM12 for my new Yukon XL. The GM9 unit may work with the Envoy. I would suggest giving them a call. By the way, I bought the GM12 online for 50 bucks. Just got it in the mail today.

My 2002 Trailblazer with 10,400 miles failed to start the morning after a 500 mile trip down I 95. There were no problems during the trip. The Trailblazer has been sitting at a dealership for 2 weeks awaiting a diagnosis. I understand that there have been cylinder sleeve problems with engines built prior to 2/02 which is the case with my vehicle.

    Has anyone had similar problems?

My wife reported today that the fuel gauge on out TB LTZ reads near empty, but that the tank won't take any gas. I wasn't there, but she let the attendant try, and he couldn't get it to take gas either?

    Anyone have any ideas?
  • blrmkrblrmkr Member Posts: 40
I had one of the modules "flashed" a while back to fix the fuel gauge and voltmeter from reading 1.5x the maximum that they should read. There is a TSB for the fix.
  • 2002slt2002slt Member Posts: 228
I've had that same problem a few times. I know it's frowned upon, but I never turn off the engine when filling up. I noticed that when the problem occurs, if I turn off the engine all is well. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fuel pump creating a vacuum. Just a wild guess, since I have no background in auto mechanics. All I know is that it works for me.

Haven't checked the boards in a week and was surprised to see a complaint about poor handling in the snow. Although we've had little snow this winter in southeast Wisconsin we've had lots of icy roads and slippery conditions. I broke my rear tires loose once this winter when pulling away from a stoplight and that was because I didn't think it was bad enough to engage the front axle! I have an '02 Envoy XL SLT and it really has handled beautifully in the snow and on the ice.
    16,300K and no problems.

Did anyone else see the White Trailblazer on TV...CNN?

Pretty silly, but cool to notice it :)

Oil well in the background with flames shooting up and a white Trailblazer driving towards the camera man.

I read a while back that there is a new computer update for the triplets that fixes the hesitation problem. Are you talking about the slight hesitation from a complete stop or something else? What else does the update fix? Thanks for your help.

I think it is our newest secret weapon. It is sure to frustrate anyone who attempts to use it and the electronics will confound them too. We should offer it to the Iraqi leader. He'll spend so much time in the service dept., he won't have time to be a menace. I wouldn't want to be the mechanic working on this mans Trailblazer. Who knows, perhaps OnStar can help locate him.
I hope CNN realizes they cannot go from Kuwait to Baghdad on one tank of gas.

I have a 2002 Trailblazer that is throwing road debris from the front tires onto the flanged area in front of the rear tires. I have 13000 miles on it. It has never been off road. In conversations with Chevrolet they will not do anything to make it right. I asked for mudflaps and repaint of the area. Since then I have discovered two more Trailblazers with the same damage. Since the 2003 and 2002's are the same body design it will be a problem with both. Everyone should check their vehicle immediately and if you find damage file a complaint. I will be contacting the attorney general and the BBB. I, also plan to provide this information to dealers so that they will be under pressure to get this design problem taken care of.
  • ficussficuss Member Posts: 541
That's why mudflaps are made for all cars and trucks. Because they all throw road debris. Your trailblazer is not unique. Look at your tire tread, any rock or item of road debris will be picked up and thrown back.
BTW road debris comes from roads, going off road would cause your tires to throw "off-road" debris.
  • 2002slt2002slt Member Posts: 228
The factory running boards do great at keeping the rear flanged area damage free. Also, they don't retract from the appearance like mud-flaps do (IMHO). Not to mention, the possible vibration issue they cause. :) I've driven my 2002 Envoy through two Chicago Winters and only have one paint chip. It's on the front of the hood and was caused by following too close to a salt truck.
  • ltz2003ltz2003 Member Posts: 24
I have a body shop and made many repairs on chips from tires. Every vehicle does it. Mud flaps will help will not completely solve the problem in all cases. Running boards is a must on trailblazers and Envoy. Hope my input helps you. Also i do work for a dealer and in most cases they will not paint something like that.
  • hardhawkhardhawk Member Posts: 702
Anyone who takes one look at the TB/Envoy will instantly know that there will be chipping in the flanged area in front of the rear wheels. It is part of the design to give the appearance that we all like. I got both the factory running boards and added the GM mud flaps and have had no problem in almost 2 years and 23,000 miles on my Envoy. There is nothing the Attorney General or the BBB can or will do in a case like this. At some point we need to take some personal responsibility for our actions and realize that vehicles that are driven WILL get some wear and tear. I put a bug guard on the front end to protect from rock chips on the hood. I still have gotten a door ding despite my best efforts. Unless we all want to keep our vehicles in the garage wrapped in bubble wrap, things are going to happen. It is hardly the fault of the manufacturer.

Anyone here subscribe to any a service to get the TSBs? I checked Alldata ($24.95/yr) and it seems they only have data for up to model year 2001.

    Thanks
  • hillflahillfla Member Posts: 90
At my local library (St Louis and St Charles MO) they have free access to ALLDATA which will give you the complete TSBs. They do have them for 2003 cars, I have looked up all the TSBs for my 2003 Envoy using that site.
You have to physically be at the library using their computer but since it is free that is not such a bad deal. ALLDATA subscriptions cost money as you have found out. So maybe check your local library!

    Hello folks
I am slowly but surely modifying my Trailblazer. Just installed teh K&N filter ( thanks to all who helped ) now I have a new mission. I have a 2002 LS with no fog lights. I bought a pair at Autozone and tried to install them then realized how complicated it would get and I just got frustrated and returned them. However, I want to have the Original ones installed and I just called my service dept to schedule an oil change and he said he would look at the wiring harness to give me an estimate when I bring it in. The question I have is....has anyone had this done at their dealership? If so how much did it cost? Was the wiring harness ready for fog lights? Any light anyone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated and I apologize if this question has been discussed before.

    Thanks you.

Still chugging along fine with our 02 Bravada. No issues to report but we did get a flying rock in the windshield which cracked the thing badly. Not covered under warranty, no surprise there.

Anyone know if this the last year for the Bravada? I saw in the paper the 04 Rainier is coming soon.
  • cressidajcressidaj Member Posts: 6
Thanks for your responses. I am still going to have at them if for no other reason than to give them some static over what looks to be a poor design, IMHO. I have looked at several other SUV's and haven't found many that even come close to this design. I, too put a bug guard on my TB right off the floor. I had a full sized van that the first year I owned it it had big time damage on the front. Bug guard fixed that after repainting. Thanks again, everyone. ;-)

I found a factory set of fogs on the internet from a salvage place (totaled TB but front still good) and purchased them for about $200. I paid another guy $100 at a specialty shop to install the fogs by creating brackets, running the wiring, and install a switch. Oh, I did this at the same time the dealer replaced my bumper under warranty because it was so warped. I had the grills cut out where the factory fogs go and sanded in the bumper and then painted to match. They work and look fine and the switch inside looks exactly like the factory switch. One thing to consider is that the factory fogs don't put out much light IMO. The dealer will want 3 times as much $ for them to install factory fogs. It is tough to find used factory fogs.

I'm trying to decide if I can mount aftermarket fogs in the small gaps on each side of the license plate holder? Since this is in front of the radiator, will the heat be too much? I also noticed that the tow hooks are now an option on the 2003's and these holes would be a nice place for fogs. Has anyone actually used the tow hooks?
  • malibu99malibu99 Member Posts: 305
I got a set of Pilot lights and the fit nicely on each side of the plate holder....problem was...the radiator, the cables had to be run in a specific way so they wouldn't touch it...I spent 2 hours installing them nicely then gave up :(. But yes, you can find a set that fits...I forget the model number but they are made by Pilot and are rectangular and look great.

2004 is the last model year for Olds, including the Bravada.

Thanks (hillfla) for the tip about the library having access to Alldata! I checked the web site for my local library and you're right - I can access Alldata from their PCs. Great!

    Thanks again!

I know I read it somewhere and while the dash doesn't have a cable, there is a slight grinding or rubbing sound associated with very low RPM's coming from behind the cluster or perhaps under the hood. I can hear it with the radio off as I slow down or even parked and slightly reving the engine and leaving it drop down in rpms.

Anyone have a clue as to the cause/fix?

It's been a long while since any issues, but I suppose it's a small one for now.

tlauro-I believe the noise you hear is coming from the tachometer. I have the same issue in my Trailblazer.

Help! Wife fell for this sweet 02 TB at the local dealer, only 12,000 miles on it, but as I read these boards there is talk of the 4.2 i6 cylinder walls breaking and the engine having to be replaced. Is there a manufactures date to look for? Any help would be appreciated

"Anyone know if this the last year for the Bravada? I saw in the paper the 04 Rainier is coming soon"

Yes this is the last year for the Bravada as well as most of the Old's line. I believe 2004 will be the last year for the Aurora and the rest of the line.

    Scott,
Check out this GM link about the 4.2 motor.
    http://media.gm.com/division/powertrain/news/4200_presskit.html.
I have an '02 Envoy XL SLT. Love it. No problems. I bought GM's Major Guard extended warranty. First time I ever bought an extended warranty for a vehicle. Its great peace of mind. Many electronics and innovations on these vehicles and its cheap (in my mind) insurance.

Anyone have any experience with the aftermarket tape on trim kits?
I am thinking of trying to dress up the interior and there are several offerings on E-bay for wood/carbon fiber options.
Looks as if for $175 you can get a complete kit. Want to know what the expected quality/ appearance would be before buying

Anyone interested in a slightly used (6K) K&N Filter, part #E-1009, in its original box? The best price I could find on the web was $53.30, I figure its worth $45 (plus free shipping within the US). See my profile for contact information.

WAS AT THE BOOK STORE AND HAPPENED TO SEE THE SUV /CAR VERSION OF CONSUMERS REPORTS AND I WAS UNHAPPY TO SEE THE BAD RATING THIS THING GOT . I HAVE TO SAY THAT MY FORD DID DO BETTER THEN ANY GM I HAVE HAD SO FAR . BUT FOR SURE THIS IS THE LAST AMERICAN MAKE FOR ME . JUST WANTED TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT THE RATING WAS NOT GOOD AND IT WAS NOTED THAT THE TB HAD A LOT OF WORK DONE TO IT IN THE SHOP. I AM GOING TO PICK UP THE ISSUE JUST TO SEE HOW BAD IT IS .

I was just curious if anyone has purchased Husky Mud Flaps? I was told you have to drill into panels? Is this true with the OEM bow tie style Mud Flaps. I will concur with the wheels throwing up debris, but heck all my vehicles have done this. In fact I have some tar on my TB, from dumb pot hole repair crew. Hey its better than my bridge painting incident!!!!

Actually, you got it backwards. The Aurora is dropped after 2003 (with a "commemorative" run mid this year), and the Alero, Bravada, and Silhouette (why?!) continue on into the 2004 model year.

    Hi

I was wondering, why are you getting rid of it? Did it not perform the way they say it does? Just wondering.
  • bryancosbryancos Member Posts: 282
Just picked up my Envoy from the local GM body shop after having $5K of cosmetic surgery performed on it. At first glance it looked great -- perfect paint with a glass finish... Popped the hood... the plastic trim across the top front of the grille was obviously missing (can see the empty screw holes.. HELLO???!!) There was nowhere to hook the prop rod to keep it from rattling, and it was just bouncing there under the hood! Did the idiots think nobody would notice this? Also the retaining bar for the battery had not been replaced and the battery box is just kinda bouncing in place. In addition, the cornering lights were not functioning! Talk about lack of attention to the blatantly obvious. I called them back first thing this morning to complain (and catch them before they tossed any parts), and they're supposed to fix everything while I wait... (won't hold my breath) I feel they rushed the job though and I have to question the quality of the repair now...

Anyone have problems with the BRAKE lights failing? Have had problems, seen a few others going around town with one dead brake light, a friend told be about his TB doing this too. The wire contacts on the bulbs get burned and fail.

    See picture.

    image

You will notice the wire contact is almost burned through! Looks like a safety issue to me.

Other than that, had the PCM reprogramming done a month ago and runs MUCH better cold, a bit firmer 1-2 shift, a little more low end torque or at least better pedal response, 11-01 build date and nothing else to report. Just these darn lousy brake light contacts!

Forget Consumer Reports ( I dumped my subscription years ago) I would absolutely buy a Trailblazer again.
  • calucykcalucyk Member Posts: 35
I sold my truck and purchased a car. The K & N filter performed well, considering the vehicle. I purchased the filter for two reasons, better performance and for a long lasting filter.
  • ficussficuss Member Posts: 541
tblazed: where have you been? Haven't heard from you in quite a while. I hope you had the dealer replace the brake light socket too. The bulb wire contact shows obvious signs of arching. That means the socket contacts are also burned and pitted. This can be a problem with wire insulation overheating at the point of connection to the socket, AND, the arching (sparking) can play havoc with the electronic systems. This is possibly a clue when looking for various glitches we've read about. Is the bulb a combo. brake and turn signal bulb?

My TBLT is 2 years old today.

Does anyone know if the K&N aircharger kit 63-1045 will void the 3/36 or extended warranties since it is supposed to be for off-road and racing use only? Has anyone installed this kit yet? If so, was the installation process straightforward following the directions? I have 44k+ miles and am still using the original filter.

Also, all Thule racks are 20% off at REI 4/4-4/13.

2003 Annual Auto Issue before you buy a new vehicle. It lists 10 scams that a dealer may pull on you during the buying process.

Also, be on your toes in the service department. If they cheat you in the showroom, service will certainly cheat you.
  • seifordseiford Member Posts: 68
Has anyone successfully added the underhood and glovebox lights from the 2002's to a 2003?

I saw an earlier post that someone had purchased the lights but was looking for information on how to wire them. Did it work?
  • momstruck1momstruck1 Member Posts: 206
I just want someone at GM to get a brain and say Sorry . It seems that I should have done a little more Homework on the truck then just jumping in and getting one . I only have 24 months to go and counting every day!! If the service guy would stop treating me like a dumb woman and more like a human it wouldn't be so bad . i think that that infuriates me more then a lousy car.
  • scottc454scottc454 Member Posts: 356
I installed the kit. It's very easy to install, although I struggled with a grommet at one point.

I don't know if it voids the warranty or not but I did have some warranty work done after it was installed. Nobody said anything about it, but I was having the radio replaced.

Worst case - if you need warranty work done, put the old intake back on.

Just be prepared, that thing is very loud when you're flooring it. It's fine during normal driving though.

I think many of us are in your corner feeling a little like we're stuck with a less than perfect expensive toy. Keep in mind that we could have paid much more and gotten the same experience. Look at the BMW Z5. It has had many similar problems. How G.M. handles these problems will determine their future IMO. I have had every domestic make of car and several imports, Fiat, Jaguar and Honda. The XJ6 Jaguar leaked gas everywhere. My 1994 Honda Accord needed freon every year for 3 years. They changed the condenser 3 times. The windshield cracked when I hosed it down with cold water on a very hot day. My Ford cars all had engine valve problems along with many other problems. The older Dodges had bad chokes and wouldn't run when cold. The list goes on and on. The Trailblazer is just the newest in this long series of problematic autos.
Back in the 1960's you could buy a good car for about $2000.00. My first full time job in 1968 paid about $10.000. These cars now cost $30,000. How many people making $150,000 are buying Trailblazers? Not many. Even at $30,000 these are low end cars. We got what we paid for.

Momstruck - I feel your pain, and can understand why you feel "stuck". However, as many others have stated on this board, the dealership ABSOLUTELY makes the difference. I drive 30 minutes out of my way to avoid the local (3 minutes away) GMC dealer, because I get better service at the farther away shop. Sure, it takes time, but I have a lot less headaches, and things tend to get fixed right the first time. A good technician makes all the difference - I request the same guy every time, because I know he knows what he is doing. You keep mentioning this fire at your favorite dealer, but ask around, surely there has to be another place to go where they will treat you with respect - it might be worth the drive. Tell them you had a bad experience at the first place, and are looking for a new dealership. If they are truly good business people, they should go out of their way to win you as a customer.

I also learned to not let the little things bother me with this truck. There will always be rattles and squeaks, and trim pieces that just don't fit right. That's what the Bose is for - crank it up - it drowns all of that stuff out. If a wheel falls off or the whole thing dies, call roadside assistance. Extended warranties go a long way towards buying piece of mind too - a relatively cheap 3 year insurance policy, based on the computer components in this vehicle.

These are all just my opinions, by the way - I suspect many of you disagree with them. With everything going on in the world today, these issues with the vehicles seem trivial, even though we all have a lot of cash tied up in them.

By the way - '02 XL SLT 4WD - loaded, 02/02 build date, 9800 miles, no major issues.

What i did on my 03 tb is i had a under hood light from i think arround a 95 gm tk. This is one of the lights with a pull out light with a wire that goes clear to the back of the tk. It works great. I mounted it on the drivers side inner well at the back by the fire wall.Used a in line fuse and ran it to the hot post on the under hood fuse block for the trailer brakes.Go to the dealer or junk yard and get one it works great. Also good for changing a flat.I havent got to the glove box light yet.Just my idea hope it helps
