Well, I just heard back from the Service Re. He told me that I will have a resolution by today. It seems he gave them two choices and told them to pick from one or let me pick from one:

I can have a brand new Bravada and they will void my lease and give me a new lease with either the exact same terms or the current terms whichever one I prefer. Give me a 2,500 mile extra mile allowance and provide the upgraded Onstar service for the entire 3 years of my lease.

    OR

Void my lease, give me all monies paid, including the June payment, and let me walk away.

We'll see what they come back with. I really don't want to give up on the Bravada. In talking with the Service Re. this really looks like an instance that goes way back to the manufacturing of the material that goes into the manufacturing of the air bladders. I doubt they will ever get to the bottom of it and I'm not sure if it would even be worth it.

What we agreed on is that probably in the manufacturing plant for the rubber there was some sort of incident. For some reason the rubber was patched and it went on to the company who manufacturers the bladders. It would definitely be a daunting task to track down the person who may or may not have patched it and then what?

Now to comment on your posts:

Couimet: Lots of cars have air suspensions and if you think of the problems that we have with our "normal" suspensions I doubt that the air bladders are more problem prone. After driving the Envoy and Trailblazer I wouldn't trade the Bravada's ride for a once-in-a-lifetime problem.

rpageau: Yes, they have three Bravada. The two that were built on the same day as mine are equipped exactly as mine is (was?). One is even Blue like mine. The GM was telling me that they ordered that way because that is what they thought would move. They have sold a total of 12 so far and mine was the only one that had a sunroof and the Bose stereo. I'm actually kind of glad because since the 1995 Explorer revision I have liked the body style (except the 2002). I couldn't get myself to buy, however, a car that I saw constantly on the road. One thing about the Blazer I had before the Bravada is you didn't see as many of them on the road.

hambone7: Well, I look at this way. No one at the dealership (or most likely the manufacturing plant) had anything to do with the problem and it would make no sense to lose my temper with them. I used the old "get more flies with honey" philosophy with this one and it paid off. I got my Bravada at Royal Oldsmobile.

    I'll keep the board informed.

In closing let me say that as someone who seriously considered the BMW X5 - I'm glad I didn't get it. What a piece of junk (as far as BMWs go). I've had two 5 series and they were excellent qualities cars. This X5 has the build quality that pretty much is on par with most American makes. I really hate to say it but I don't understand why we (American's) don't have the work ethic to build a quality car. It's a shame.

Thanks to both of you for your help. The web site had $209.30 as their price and if a pair comes in one box, its a terrific price. That must be the case because Russ, that's what you got. George

I've been lurking around this and other boards for a while trying to decide on which SUV to get. I test drove an Envoy 2 weeks ago and really liked it. Very comfortable, handled well, great turning radius, good engine response. I was on the verge of going for it until I read the posts regarding oil useage. Seems to me to more than an isolated problem and not just a case where someone can't read a dipstick.
My question is this: Does anyone have any "formal" (i.e. TSB or literature) documentation that this is a problem? This to me sounds like the old "where there's smoke, there's fire" situation, especially since it's a brand new engine design.
    Any other thoughts, comments, suggestions?
    Thanks !

I saw this question posted some time ago but didn't see a response. I too live in a state that requires front and rear license plates. The front bracket that came on my TB functions more like an open envelope where you simply drop the plate in. However, there is no way of securing it. There have to be others who've experienced this. I'm waiting for a call back from my dealer. Any suggestions?

Yea, a lot of times I will call my local dealer and get the part number and enter it into the web site. Every GM part has there part number on it, even the AC/Delco oil and air filters.

There is a pewter bravada at my olds dealer that is sitting about two inches lower in the rear than in the front.
Looks like mfullmer is not the only one who is having suspension problems.

Haven't posted here in awhile and decided not to get a SUV this time around. I early terminated the lease on my intrigue because i couldn't get my olds dealer to fix my car. I purchased an impala ls with incentives from GM.

I would urge anyone who is considering the bravada to turn and walk away. Olds has got some serious problems which will not be fixed.

Mfullmer, sorry to hear about your air bladder experience. Since you ended up with a loaner X5, can you describe the difference in driving "feel" between it and the Envoy (from what you remember)? I bought my TB LTZ on Tuesday finally, but also considered the X5. For me it came down to affordability. But I'm still curious what you have to say after having the X5 for a couple of days. I know you say the X5 is built cheaply, but specifically the difference between the ride feel is what I'm curious about. Thanks!

Could anyone please tell me where I could get information on the cost for extended warranties? I know the dealer has a tremendous markup on this and I don't want to be taken. Thanks

Click over to the Finance, Warranty, and Insurance Forum. There is all kinds of info over there. Maybe too much :>)

Well, I'll answer the question first. I have a Bravada and haven't driven an Envoy with the air suspension only the standard suspension. I guess I can say that the BMW feel much more "uptight". You really have to work at driving it like it is an SUV not a car. With the Bravada I feel very much like I'm driving a car. I cannot say that if I could everything on the BMW that I got on the Bravada I wouldn't have chosen the BMW. I like it's looks. But I rally love my Bravada also.

As far as that Envoy you saw, B4Z, it was probably a standard suspension one. I noticed right off when I was looking at the Envoys on the lot that the standard suspension (as well as on the TB) makes the car look a little lower in the rear than with the air suspension. Trust me, there is no way that the Envoy you saw could have had the same problem I had. I have seen the air bladders and they are about 7-8 inches tall. My Bravada looked like the front was going to bob off of the ground.

So, whats going on with it? I got a total of 8 calls yesterday (from 3 different) people. It seems GM and Oldsmobile really want to make sure that they keep the customer happy. Hey, this is not their fault and they have no reason to be defensive, right? So here is the offer:

    1. Pick another Bravada and they will lease it to me with the same terms (Thats not much of stretch since the only options mine didn't have were the red paint and the heavy duty axle ratio). They would also add 2,500 extra miles to the lease, give me three years of the Premium Onstar service, Free maintenance for the lease term and free loaners ANYTIME I bring the car in. They would also credit the one payment I have made to the cap cost reduction (as well as all of the money I paid up front).

OR They would void the lease, give me back all of the money I paid up front, including the first payment as well as give me back the one payment I have made.

I decided to take the first deal as there is no way I am giving up my Bravada. I decided NOT to take the Blue one that was built on the same day as mine - it was exactly like mine and well, I guess I superstitious. In any case they found a Blue one just like mine but built at the end of May on the way down to a dealership in Macon. They will have that ready for me on Tuesday.

So, I'm a happy customer. They have made that happen - imagine that!!!
  • b4zb4z Member Posts: 3,372
It was a bravada that i saw with the rearend sitting down, not an envoy.

Looks like GM is taking care of you.

The impala that i bought 3 weeks ago had some overspray from a factory touch up job by the driver's side door handle.

My dealer offered and got another car for me, which i did not take because it was a much earlier build date.

I wish my olds dealer has taken care of me the way my chevy dealer is.
  • mfullmermfullmer Member Posts: 773
Sorry about that, I misunderstood. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they had disconnected the battery on the Bravada you saw. My dealer, for some reason, had disconnected the batteries from all of the cars on the lot. Even the Bravadas that had been repaired. When I picked mine out (they had two Blue ones just like mine) and they connected the batteries for both of them and I heard the compressors start up on both of them and run for a minute or so. Since the compressor runs a little bit every so often to keep the air compressed you probably just saw one that hadn't had it's "boosted" in a while because of no power.

I might be wrong but that would mean it's bladders (both of them as only one of mine failed due to pressure the other one was fine but the seal blew) had come from the same sheet of torn and patched rubber and had ended up on the same vehicle. I guess it could happen but it seems unlikely.

I was mainly taking issue with your "stay away from Bravadas" comment. I looked long and hard for another SUV and it basically came down to the Bravada being the only one that had the style/size/features/power, etc. that I wanted. That includes rejection of the TB and Envoy also. One major problem on ONE vehicle that stems from a material problem hardly seems like reason to discount ALL Bravadas. I say One because looking at the parts and the fact that there never was a failure with a consumer I don't count the front suspension problem as major. It was mostly preventative as far as I see it.

I visited the dealer yesterday to obtain my first 3K check-up and oil change on my Bravada. I asked the Service Director about the air expulsions I'm having about every 5 minutes from the suspensions. He called over the head truck mechanic and they looked at a service description of the air suspension. They concluded that it shouldn't be happening and that it was either the compressor continually running where it should be turning off and the system relieving itself from the build-up of pressure or there is a leak somewhere and it is not an expulsion of air but an intake to build the pressure up to normal. I also have a Town Car with air suspension and have never heard the whooshes except when parked and after a full load gets out of the car. WARNING, THIS AIR EXPULSION IS NOT NORMAL. The service director said he will call will call the field service group on this. I will keep you informed.

On the running boards the Bravada's are different from the TB's. The flares in the rocker panels to the wheel well openings is different. Gmpartsdirect have them priced about $90 more. They come in black and clear annodized. The rocker panels on the Bravada are painted the body color whereas the TB is the dull black that's used on bumpers. I don't know what black and clear anodized means. I think that if they were painted red, my body color, and the dull black in the step areas it would look best but it sounds like alot of work.

I forgot to tell this one. I checked my oil before I had it changed and it showed 1 quart down. This is after 1500 miles. After I got it changed I checked it again when I got home and it also showed 1 quart down. I know he changed it because I saw him. So either I burned 1 quart in my first 1500 miles and the dealer added 1 quart short or the dip stick is off by 1 quart. Any comments on this?

Bravada owners: how strong are the Bravada's headlights? I am only asking because of the way they are shaped. I used to have a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with "slim" headlights and was not happy with the light output.
  • jhtjht Member Posts: 24
The headlights are pretty good as halogan goes, and throw much better than the ones on my old Blazer did. They do have a relatively abrupt transition from light to dark, though the transition is farther out than the more gradual one on my old truck. High beams are very strong, and the foglights do a good job.

I will say that I'd have expected xenon for the money, but these are fine.
  • mfullmermfullmer Member Posts: 773
According to the tech manual that I was shown the air sound is normal and, according to readers of this board and people I saw at the dealership EVERYONE hears this. Now, I have not noticed it every 5 minutes. It is much less often. I would ask them to take a second look as I SAW the service manual with my own two eyes.
  • iukstuiukstu Member Posts: 12
I haven't noticed any more oil usage since we had the oil changed. We did notice that on the service slip it showed that they put 6 quarts of oil in when the crackcase capacity is 7 quarts. The dipstick, yes...we do know how to read them correctly, showed that it was full and has continued to show full. It was full when we bought the vehicle also. I am hoping that this was just a one time thing. We really haven't put enough miles on the Bravada since the oil change to be able to tell. We may take it to Bowling Green and if we do, we will keep an eye on the oil then. If it uses more oil, I will let you know. If not, we'll just assume it was a one time thing.

    First --

rpageau - what dealership did you visit for the pricing on those Rails?? I live in West Orlando area...

Also -- to everyone else - We have a TB LS - and I am looking for the Square Trailer Hitch Cover. I saw it on an LTZ -- but our LS didn't come with one...Was wondering if anyone seen this available thru GMPartsDirect...or suggestions??

    Thanks!

HYDOG, any 2" cover will fit the receiver on your trailer hitch, or are you looking for a particular cover? I have a replica of a boat prop on mine, got it at BASSPRO SHOPS in Nashville.

Just got my GMC Envoy 4wd SLE. Pewter with Rear Slip Differential and Cassette - MSRP $32,015. With GMS Discount, Old's Loyalty, GM Card, and Dealer Barbeque Day $250 Discount = about $26,350. Residual was 55% (normally 52% but I opted for 12,000 miles so they added 3%). Money Factor was 5% - they said that was because I just came out of a lease. Price is $371/mth with $0 down. I called around another dealer wanted $477/mth and the dealer I got it from started out at $407/mth. I ran the numbers from Edmunds Lease Calulations, showed them and magically they came within $2 of mine. I will report back after I drive it for a few days. Anyone else get a lease this low with nothing down? Just want to be sure I did good.
  • rpageaurpageau Member Posts: 94
Got 'em at Palm Chevrolet in Ocala. They are right off I75, so if you are in West Orlando it would be just over an hour via Fla. Turnpike & 75.
GM PartsDirect has them at $209 + $38 shipping if you can figure out the freight delivery.

My lease was 4.9% APR equivalent. I put down 1381 which included first months payment, license, and $650/mo security deposit since I have never leased with GMAC before. 15K miles/3yrs I took approx $6100 back in cash from my trade-in and my business leased the rig for me. my residual is 52% as I recall. Other details escape me at the moment.

Has anyone asked if they put a full 7 quarts in a new vehicle? Also is it possible that they have put in a lighter "break-in" grade. Also I have had a couple of old cars and if they sit for a long time the seals dry out and they need to be run a bit before they stop using oil...shouldn't be the case, but you never know. I have to bring mine in for pegged gauges. Everything is reading high, I'll ask then. LS TB 1SC, 3.73, sheilds.

I just got my envoy yesterday and I am so happy with it. The ride is excellent. I could not find one thing wrong with the door alignments or weather striping. It is so quiet you can't tell the motor is running. I can't wait to figure out all the buttons. My Envoy is a pewter slt w/moon roof and running boards. I have been reading these boards forever waiting for mine to come in, ordered on April 25, I am so glad I have been able to keep up with what everyone else thinks of their GM Suv's. Thanks

How long did it take for the vehicle to get from the factory to the dealership? I recall that you had heard anywhere from 7 to 30 days.
  • vplazavplaza Member Posts: 47
    To other Envoy owners:

Has anyone else heard a noise toward the left rear door when you're in the driver's seat? The noise sounds like a rattle or creaking and can be a little annoying, considering that the vehicle is fairly quiet to begin with.

Turning up the radio makes it "go away", but that really isn't fixing the problem. :-)

I hope someone has found it and found a fix for it.

    TIA.

My Trailblazer's transmission seems to drag when it shifts into high gear. It starts its shift into high gear at 35 mph and completes the shift at 40 mph. It just seems that it takes forever to comlete the shifting. Maybe this is normal. Has anyone else noticed this?

I ordered a 2002 Bravado on 3/1/01. I wanted the package with polished wheels and was told they will be available in May. I was OK with that since May was 10 weeks away and most orders would probably be 8 weeks anyway. I was told that my order would receive priority when the polished wheels become available. I am still waiting and my dealer has not been able to give me any info on when my order will come in. This dealer has received another Bravado with polished wheels about 3 weeks ago which is for his inventory (not sold). I also saw another Bravado with polished wheels at another dealer parked on front of the showroom (dealer inventory also). My order from March 1 has obviously been put behind unsold vehicles going to dealers. I know they started shipping Bravados with polished wheels in May and have not been told why mine was not among the first.
Has anyone else had a similar experience. I am getting very impatient since my order was placed nearly 4 months ago.
  • lgspencelgspence Member Posts: 15
vplaza: I've heard the same noise. It seems to occur when hitting a rather large bump on the road, not frequently. Some others have suggested this could be a loose roof rack or even a loose liner overhead, but this doesn't seem to be the case with me. Any other Envoy owners have this problem? Have you found a solution?
  • aleasealease Member Posts: 22
    Hi,
I ordered my Envoy 4-25, was given a build week of 6-11 and it was del. to me on 6-25. I am in Virginia. The dealership got it in that morning and had it ready by 12 noon. I love it. Do watch out for the rear cargo storage cover, when my husband opened it he thought it flipped up and one of the tabs broke. You have to slide it toward you to remove it. That is a bad design but overall I can't find anything else wrong and believe me I have checked everything I have read about on these boards. Good Luck

Hello all, Well my ordeal is over, for the moment. I picked up my new Bravada yesterday. The GM took me to the back and showed me what they were doing with my old one. It was up on a rack and all torn apart. Really cool!

My new is exactly like my old one except it only has 12 miles on it (my other had 43 when I picked it up). Everything went as planned things are back to normal.

I will be going back though because the front passenger seat is really squeaking badly. It happens during all driving conditions and is very high pitched. I'm sure it's the seat because if I take my hand and push down on the seat it stops (I know, not the safest way to drive but I only did it to test it out.)

Other than that, things are great!

Has anyone done any serious towing with their new TB/Envoy. I am thinking of buying the Bravada and plan to haul two large horses with it, for mostly local trips, few hills. Any one have any experience with how this SUV handles with a 5800lb load?
  • boat10boat10 Member Posts: 59
I pull a 20' bass boat with my 2002 TB, no problems noticed yet---gets right on down the road with minimal drag. I use 3rd gear with auto 4wd just in case of any problems, doesn't affect gas milage that much.
  • earlcearlc Member Posts: 34
I notice that on Edmund's review of the TB under Pro"s and Con's they state that the TB has "slow steering". This is very suprising to me because I find that my TB steering is just the opposite of slow. It is very sensitive and has taken me awhile to get used to it. Has anyone else noticed this.
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
My Envoy has no door noise as you describe but the rear doors do have alignment problems. They have to be slammed hard to close. I suspect the problems are related to alignment. If the latch is not holding the door securely it can move as the frame flexes and make that noise. I would certainly have the dealer adjust it but I would also lubricate the door seals with WD40.

As for steering, I had a 98 Bravada and it was more sensitive in my opinion. In other words, it takes more turns of the wheel to make the Envoy turn than it did the old Bravada. It also seems that the Envoy has a variable assist system which tightens the steering ratio as speed increases. It takes a lot of turns when maneuvering into a parking space but takes less steering wheel movement at higher speeds. I got used to it very quickly.
  • allenrallenr Member Posts: 89
Yea, I'm hearing some kind of rattle above the left rear door. Sounds like it's coming out from under the headliner. Could be a wire or connector that somebody else has talked about. Already had it into the dealer for this one, with the usual no problem found. I'll have to wait till I can reprouduse it for the service guy.

  • doc35doc35 Member Posts: 23
I would only like to point out that my headliner is not attached well. The velcro attachments do not line up so cannot hold. I may have mentioned this before, but that is definitely a source of a rattle in my headliner......and probably yours.

also, you may want to examine the paint on the rear tailgate where the license plate holder piece is frenched into the metal. My paint is chipping off and GM will have to have the tailgate repainted. Probably put on too early at the factory or the edge of the license plate holder scored the paint and caused the flaking. Either way, I am not too bothered as a friend of mine works at one of the finest body shops in Bellevue, Wash. and hopefully he can supervise the repair. I would be more upset had that not been the case.

Typical GM, just like Porsche can't paint a car worth a damn, but then again the FEATURES are spectacular and the paint is repairable.

Has anyone heard that GM has stopped the production of the envoy, tb, and bravada? I was told by a sales rep. that the production plants would be shut down in July for 2-3 weeks. I'm not sure if he was just trying to get me to purchase what he had on the lot.
  • jrscesjrsces Member Posts: 8
We are a supplier to GM and Ford and they generally take the first two weeks of July as a shutdown. This is normal and allows the plants to do upgrades, maintenance, model changes, etc.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
This is typical. I have friends that work at GM and Ford and they all have summer shut downs for at least a week. Supply should be fine though. They pump up inventory before the line shuts down.
  • smokiejoesmokiejoe Member Posts: 26
The Moraine Assembly Plant where the TB, Envoy, and Bravada is built will only be shutdown the first week in July. 7/2-7/6/2001.
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
I too have a loose wire or something in the headliner above the eyeglass holder. The dealer has been unsuccessful in fixing it and it's driving me crazy because it's near my right ear. I may unscrew the eyeglass holder and stuff padding up there to quiet it.

I have had my Envoy for 4 weeks and have put on 3,500 miles.

Steer is slower than my old Blazer and vans, however not a problem to get use to. I have not noticed a rattle in door or headline.

I did have out of balance tires, this was very noticeable at 75 mph and very bad at 80 mph. Most people would not notice it however below 65mph. GM will do a complete balance and alinement for vehicles up to 7,500 miles or 9 months which ever comes first. I would recommend this to everyone. The improvement in ride was uprising.

Drive door panel was loss and had to be fasten, no algienment problems with rear door.

Check your paint on Tailgate, my paint at bottom of the gate had a number of chips right at the seam.

All this item are minor for a new vehicle, I would reccomended this vehicle to anyone.
  • ralforalfo Member Posts: 36
-For those of you that received running boards for your Envoy as compensation for the recall, how long did it take for them to get them in? I've been waiting 4 weeks now and all they keep telling me "it may take awhile because the vehicle is still new".

-I too have a rattle near the drivers side rear door, but it only seems to happen when the road is really screwed up or hit a nasty pothole.

-One other thing I've noticed is when driving on the highway and the vehicle is usually over 55mph, under certain conditions after accelerating and easing off on the gas petal I feel a vibration under the floorboard through the petal My wife has also felt it from the passenger seat. It's happened under different road conditions, and there seems to be no lose of vehicle power. I first thought it may be the cranny. Does anyone have any ideas??

    Thanks...

There has been a TSB issued on the http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov web site. It reads as follows:

NFORMATION ON HEADLINER REPLACEMENT, HEADLINER HARNESS ROUTING, AND REPLACING OR SERVICING THE SUNROOF ON VARIOUS MODELS INCLUDING THE 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. *TT

You may want to question the dealer on this

  • boat10boat10 Member Posts: 59
Has anyone noticed how the front facia is attached to their TRAILBLAZERS?? (the part in question holds the front fog lamps). Upon close inspection you will notice the part is held together on the vehicle by 4 plastic tabs...kind of CHEESEY I think for a $33,000 vehicle. I found this out by giving mine a good bath, then wiping it down, the whole facia I thought was going to fall off. I'm going to replace these with 4 small bolts, lock washers and nuts.

    HAVE A TRAILBLAZER DAY!!!!!!!!!!

I just got a 2002 TB. I like it a lot so far. I want to carry two canoes on it. I was wondering if anyone knew of a manufacturer making replacement racks or add on parts that would help me. They need to be about 8 feet wide. Thanks.

I have the Envoy, I recently towed an 18 foot trailer with a car on it, approximately 5000 lbs. I had it in two wheel drive, except when raining. It handled great. Gas mileage was about 15.5. I put on at least 1000 miles on that trip. No problems on hills. I even passed a Tahoe towing a trailer with a car on the highway. They seem alittle shocked when we passed them going up a hill. The power was there when needed.
  • kozak1kozak1 Member Posts: 12
I have had my TB for three weeks now, and I have not noticed any problems with the tranny...but I did notice that loose front fascia. It moves around like its ready to fall off!
Boat10, are those tabs visible from underneath? Will putting in bolts work, you think?
Does anyone know the correct hi/lo beam bulbs for these trucks? It's not stated in the owners manual, and the dealership didn't know either! And how do you get to access that bulb anyway?
And check this out, the owners manual says the correct oil filter is a PF59, but the factory installed filter is a PF58! Anyone know which is the correct one?
