See posting #1558 and subsequent postings by me on this...

I don't think anyone at GM has a straight answer for this. Example: My TB was built the week of June 25. I was told by GM on July 2 it would be held for 7-8 days for "quality testing" or "testing the options" that they supposedly do. The TB arrived in Georgia on July 6. You do the math.

Today is July 12 and they haven't yet transported the TB the last 15 miles from the train depot to the dealership. Go figure.

What are the details of that 3.9% finance offer? Is it just for 36 months or is it longer. I'm probably dreaming here, but it they would run a 3.9% finance offer for 60 months here in the south, I'd be at the Chevy dealer tomorrow morning. My bank is currently running 6.9% for 60 months on new and used(back to 1994) cars, but a lower rate would shave more $$ off. That does kind of suck that the offers vary by region and that some regions may not even have any promos. It's like; hey GM we like the new SUVs here in the south too. Detroit isn't the only place that buys your cars.

I've had a new Envoy since june 16th It has been back to the dealer 4 times. The drivers seat does not go back to the original position after the 'easy exit' feature is on. The real problem
the engine races at a very high rpm. the dealer replaced a module he said would correct this, but
after only 2 days the car stalled and the engine raced. I had it towed to the dealer. I was told by one tech at the dealer that I'm the 4th person
to return an Envoy. I called GMAC leaseing and told them I returned the vehicle to the dealer, and I would not make the 1st payment. They agreed
and told me to have the GM rep check the car and approve a GM buy back. I'm waitng for the rep to show up. Anyone with the same type of problem please e-mail me at 'radar124@optonline.net'
This is a $38000 vehicle, it should not need the same repair several times within 2 weeks. by the way, I have 423 miles on the car. MY 98 Envoy never had any problems-never!!!

I think the 3.9% is only for 3 years. Check a credit union. I found a 3 year loan at a local credit union for 5.65%, which is way below GMAC's regular rip-off rate. If GMAC can't treat everyone the same, then I refuse to give them my business. You would think that they would be smart enough to want the business. After all, they make more on a loan at 3.9% than not making the loan at all. Now all I need is for my Envoy to just get here. It was shipped 7/3 and the invoice says delivery on or before 7/13, which is tomorrow. We shall see. The only question a 7/13 delivery raises is do I want to buy a new car on Friday the 13th!?!

The front buckets are designed to accommodate heights ranging from 4'10" to 6'2", but there is a noticeable lack of side bolstering. The front seats don't do justice to the ride, allowing the occupants to feel a side-to-side jouncing that doesn't exist in the 2002 GMC Envoy with the same chassis and suspension but better seats.
    (end quote)

Is anyone out there critical of the seating? Please post your comments, and thanks to others who already have.

GM extended the financing deal that was to expire on July 2nd. It's 3.9% for 36 months, 4.9% for 48 months, or 5.9% for 60 months.

flyguy5 -- Are the running boards you got from GMpartsdirect the chrome tubular side steps found in back of the Trailblazer brochure? My Trailblazer should be in next week and every time I inquire about those chrome running boards I am told 'They don't make them yet.'

If you want to find postings for a specific topic in a group can you perform a search?
  • flyguy5flyguy5 Member Posts: 35
No they are the black ones. I don't know if they make any chrome ones. BTW it took about 1.5 hours to put them on. Pretty easy. Just crawled under and bolted them on.

I was at my dealer today getting my first oil change. I asked the parts department about the running boards. They told me that there is no kit available, but if I buy all the parts separately they are $1,600, this does not include installation. My son will put them on for me. How many parts did you get? He showed me this diagram with alot of parts for both sides. Does the part number you posted for the running boards the same as what is needed for the Envoy? Does that part number include running boards for both sides? Sorry so many questions. Thank for your help.

Any other Dealers around your area...you might want to talk to a different one. The running boards are the same for the Envoy and TB. The can be obtained at www.GMpartsDirect.com. This is a dealer on the East Coast and a bunch of people on this site have used them. The total cost for two RBs and the bolts and shipping was $240ish. The part number is 12497885 It is called a step package. Good Luck.
  • drew_drew_ Member Posts: 3,382
Yes, there is a search feature. If you go to the SUV topics list, you'll see the "search" button just below the "add discussion" at the top of the topics list. Keep in mind that it's not perfect though, and I believe it's still being refined.

    Hope this helps!

Picked up my Envoy on a rainy day---did not notice until 2 wks later that the right front door had been repainted--definitely not a factory quality job. The dealer did not disclose this to me as required--says he didn't know it either. All that the dealer and GM rep. will agree to do is repaint the door again; not an acceptable solution for such an expensive vehicle. Anyone had a similar experience and been able to solve it? Would appreciate any ideas.

If anyone is interested two of the local dealers are offering TBs at $3000 and $2500 off MSRP in todays paper. This is probably done to move them. My dealer has only sold two since I bought mine, 30 days ago. They have had the white ones for 3 months! I think the problem they have is that the colour selection is limited (red, metallic red, white, blue and pewter). Once the other colours are available they may move quicker. There are only a few blue ones in the state so those are hard to get. I have seen only two others in my area and no Envoys or Bravadas.

Just my luck! My Envoy was suppose to have the 1SG package but was delivered with the 1SH pkg. Somewhere along the way it seems that the order changed. Does anyone have a 1SG pkg or is there a hold on the package? There is a beautiful Black SLT with the 1SH pkg, Chrome wheels, and running boards here in Rhode Island. This has been a most disappointing series of events. However the truck took only seven weeks and five days from order.

The fine print in the back of the 2002 Envoy brochure says "tire chains should not be used."
None of the salesmen in the local area know the technical reasons.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is this also true for Trailblazer and 2002 Explorer as I am looking at those SUVs too? Does it make a difference for 2WD vs 4WD?

Thanks for any insight to this.
  • flyguy5flyguy5 Member Posts: 35
The TB Manual says "Don't use tire chains. There's not enough clearance." . If you live in a mountain state you may need these to get over passes, but if they don't let you through;it is probably a good time to find a motel :-). Since the platforms are all the same I guess it applies to all three.

I read a message awhile back saying the 3 GM sisters use a new lug bolt pattern. Might be awhile before you can get any wheels.
Anybody found a bug shield for a Trailblazer yet??

Just wondering what folks have been paying for their Envoys. So far I have been quoted 8% below MSRP. Anyone able to get one at invoice??

Just took delivery on a wht TB. Vehicle was' used as a demo at the dealer, had 461 mi but we obtained veh for $200 over dealer invoice (as given by Edmunds and CReports - CRs purchased car report listing).

Seats are, of course, leather but do not display the same lateral support that the 'tested' Envoy (almost bought it) gave. In addition, DOES anyone find the Driver's seat "firmer" than the passenger?

Opening and closing the sunroof at any speeds over 30 mph. seems to result in a partially open roof. IS THERE a TRICK to getting things to close correctly?

In L.A. the average speeds on the freeways can be upwards of 70. Notice a bit of 'rack' noise? ANYONE notice rack whistle?

Overall, happy with the vehicle. Purchased with 4WD, 6CD, 3.73, locking diff, sunroof and a few other minimal options. Very powerful car. Have 800 miles now and want to know if ANYONE is using SYNTHETIC in the vehicle?

    Thanks.

I have been checking with various dealers around town (DFW) to locate a Medium Sage Green SUV for viewing before placing an order from the factory. Salesmen seem to not know anything and have not seen one in that color yet.

2002 Exlporer has a similar color and I have seen several of those. Are they similar? And has anyone got info on available/unavailable colors for the Envoy or TB?

One salesman said maybe they are not shipping that color till the fall.

    Thanks for your help.
  • boat10boat10 Member Posts: 59
that are now being shipped... the oak interior in light and medium oak are now on the lots. There is a green LT with oak interior and a white LT with oak interior on the Roanoke, Va Chevy dealers lot. Saw them over the weekend......real nice. But I'm pleased with my Pewter with med.gray/dk grey interior.

Brought the TB in for the gauge issue (pegged) and had another one for them. The drivers door would not open. It worked from inside but you can't open it from the outside. As for the gauges they had their "drivabilty" Manager try it and decided that they needed to contact GM for this issue. Have to keep the car overnight. Guess I can't drive it until GM says it's OK????? Anyone ever heard of this? We are rapidly approaching strike two with this. Also having them look at a vibration in the steering around 70-75 mph. Maybe balancing, maybe????. Will let all of you know what is going on. BTW the gauge thing only happens when the TB is hot and if you add 90+ temps in NM...then what happens.

I take it the 5.9 for 60 months is only available in certain regions? I can get 6.9 for 60 months and 7.9 for 72 months at a local credit union which an immediate family member has been a member at for 25 years. I'd prefer to keep it at 60 months and have crunched some numbers and at 6.9 with what I have to put down, I can comfortably afford a Trailblazer LS 4WD with option group 3 and locking rear differntial. A lower rate would make me even happier though. My figures were based on $2200 off MSRP. Anyone think I can do significantly better on this vehicle. I really like the looks of this vehicle and love the way it droves. My only caveat is that I would love to get a loaded LT or LTZ, but just don't want to spend the extra money. Anyone have an LS and if so, how do you like it? How comfortable is the driver's seat without the power adjustments? I thought I'd decided against the TB right now as a local dealer seemed to have lined up a loaded Olds Intrigue for me, but now is seems they cannot get the car in the color and feature combo I want so the TB is tempting me again. GMAC if your listening, low rate financing would probably push me over the top.

In an earlier post NM dealers are offering at least $2500 off MSRP. If you don't have a trade offer them a few hundred below MSRP and be prepared to walk. You will be able find some one that will sell you a vehicle. BTW I have the same TB as you want. Other than some issues that I have listed it drives and handles fine. If you are under 5'8" you may find the setting a litle long on the legs. The LS does have manual limbar which works great.

Mr. troutfan #1666....I've been waiting for the additional colors (sage green & Sandalwood) for the TB. They were due July 1st, then changed to August 1st. As of now, they're on schedule and I'll be watching. I would doubt very much if they will wait till the fall.

Mr. Lasuv #1665 about the oil....I have NO stock or do not work for Texaco, but I always thought about getting the SYNTHETIC oil for my 89 Blazer (but never did). I'm glad because I would probably be broke with my 243,000 original miles. My S-10 never drank any other oil (except original) than HAVOLINE 10-30w. Just change every 4,000 miles. I Plan on using the *ignore* in my new TB.....

I have a new Envoy picked it up on 6/16 It has been to the dealer 3 times so far. The engines start to race at an very high rpm. first they replaced the coolant temp sensor, that lasted 2 days, same problem. the car is still at the dealer and they are about to replace a computer..so they say. I asked the GM zone rep for help..will fix it under warranty he says.
he stated he was unware of the New Jersey State

I agree with this. I have always used "normal" oil in all of my vehicles. The key is to use the right weight 5/10 for your climate conditions. My rule of thumb is if I am not towing then the oil stays in for 3-5K miles. If I tow for more than a couple of hundred miles then I will get the oil changed after a few of these trips. I don't do a lot of towing, but when I do it is 500 miles +. I change it myself so there are $$ savings. You can chage your oil 2-3 times for the price of syn oil. I also think that any name brand oil will work fine. I have two Hondas, one with 235K and the other with 130K and they still donot use excessive oil. These have had oil changes over the last 3 years using 85 cent WalMart oil. It is made by (Quaker I think) and it works fine. Also these car are driven by teenagers and get about 30-50 perday.

Every review that I read mentions the air suspension in passing, but offers no real insight. I'm wondering what kind of difference this makes in the ride - both on and off road. Is this really worth it?
  • flyguy5flyguy5 Member Posts: 35
My dealer just called and said that GM will be issuing a TSb for the gauge problem. Seems like they need to reprogram the computer that controls these. MTF

I'm looking to buy a Sage Green TB. Almost all the 4wd LTZ's have the locking diff. Do I need it? Anyone have a good description of what GM's version of a locking diff does?

Sage green TBs are now available in Northern CA.
  • hambone7hambone7 Member Posts: 130
jdoggie, Look at caranddriver.com, I believe it's the March issue that talks about the air suspension in some detail. It gives a softer ride. You may want to look back through these postings though...one guy had the air suspension bladders rupture and the vehicle sustained thousands of dollars of damage. However, GM did completely replace his vehicle.

domino9, Without a locking diff, the wheel with the least amount of traction will spin. With the locking diff, the wheel with the most amount of traction will spin. Someone earlier in these postings gave a very complete explanation, so you may want to go back a few months here. Spend the few hundred bucks and get it, most stocked GM SUVs will have it since it is a very popular option.
  • jdoggiejdoggie Member Posts: 3
Rydell in Van Nuys (CA) is offering $3500 off of MSRP on the triplets...with the Envoy set-up I was looking at, that ended up being about $30 above invoice. Dont forget the sick lease deals out here until the end of this month (leases at about 4%).

Just broke 3K miles the other day, This is what I've noticed/encountered:

-Runs smooth, quiet, exceptional passing power!

-Had running boards installed as part of recall compensation. Look great!

-Striker plates on both rear doors needed adjustment, causing rattles.

-Plastic around 3rd brake light lifting off glass when truck sat in heat all day. Needed a stronger adhesive applied instead of double-sided tape from factory.

-Molding at top of windshield very loose. Had them add adhesive.

-Personal calling with On Star sucks. Microphone picks up too much road noise with windows slightly open & system doesn't recognize anything.

Otherwise no complaints. It's a great truck for the money and I would recommend it to anyone! GM finally did something right.
  • ducatist4ducatist4 Member Posts: 28
I agree with lots of the comments.

Onstar, I am concerned would leave you stranded in an emergency. Many times its hard to connect.

Personal calling is okay, but the microphones are not that good. It is sort of expensive per minute, but there is no contract.

Bravada is smooth and rattle free.

Molding around third light doesn't stick well.

    Door moldings are coming unglued.

Powerful engine, smooth quiet and tows fine.

    We love it.
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
Overall we love the Envoy. It's smooth and powerful. Loaded it up this past weekend with 3 bikes and a bunch of junk and it handled it all quite well.
It has, however, been to the dealer a few times. It needed a new front shock and alignment. The dealer could not fix the brake light molding problem. It lifted up again.
The rattle in the headliner also could not be fixed so I did it myself by removing the compartments and stuffing foam up in the roof and around the wires. There is a TSB on this but the dealers don't know it yet.
The center console latch issue is also not fixable as of yet.
Side rear doors have alignment problems that they are still working on.
High revving of engine when cold is programmed and is not a defect. My BMW does the same thing. You will appreciate that in the winter as the heat will be available sooner.
All that being said, it's a great vehicle.
GMC called me in response to a survey I completed noting some of these issues. They seemed concerned and interested in knowing whether they were getting resolved.

I ordered a sage green Envoy this weekend with an oak interior. The dealer checked and found four sage green Envoys in California, but none with oak interiors. Easiest transaction I have ever experienced. Purchased at dealer invoice. Having all of the information this site provides made negotiation a breeze. Thanks to everyone for sharing their information and experiences.

Hey, guys, for those of us new to this group, could someone say what a TSB is? And, I've seen mention of dealing with the GM regional rep....how does one find that person if they run into problems? Apologies if these are dumb questions. Still waiting to take delivery of my new Bravada....starting to get excited.

Hi imototo, we've all been there :-). Welcome to Town Hall. Someone else should hop in with the skinny on the GM reps.

Picked up my Envoy Monday. I want running boards and have the number 12497885 from previous posts. I'm ready to order from www.gmpartsdirect.com as directed, but have a couple of last concerns. I'd like to hear from someone who has actually gone this route, are there two per box? are they factory equipment? are they difficult to mount? Please tell me they are like the ones mounted by GM......thanks...

My wifes Envoy with air shocks noticably sags in the rear after sitting for a day or longer. After starting, the suspension inflates and rises at least 5 inches. Is this a normal characteristic of these vehicles or does she have a leak? There is nothing in the the owners manual to confirm this. I would appreciate all opinions.
  • flyguy5flyguy5 Member Posts: 35
I have ordered them from GMParts Direct. They are Flow Chevy. They are located in Winston-Salem, NC. Everything was handled first rate. They come in a set of 2 and have the bolts. took 1.5 hours to install. Good Luck. BTW they are factory and fit TB and Envoys according to the paperwork. They are black.

Can anyone tell me if their running board compensation came from the dealer level or from GM. GM is telling me "no can do".
